from the fae novels i've read through thorough researching of fae age... the most i can decipher from malleus and lilia's mental/human equivalent age is that, divide their current age to 10 human years (fae age/10). so, in this case 1 fae year = 10 human years.

/SPOILERS BEYOND THIS MARK

lilia was 300 years old during the war so that makes him 30 years old, fairly young and mature enough to literally be a soldier.

malleus is currently 178 years old, divided by 10 human years, he's 17.8 technically rounding off to 18 years old. which is just accurate enough for both his mindset and body + his currently year in nrc. lilia did say he's still young and growing, and that he is a still a child. his draconic species specificied that at 200 they are a hatchling, a teenager at 500, and a full-fledged adult at 1000 (lilia said it himself).

mal should've been born when lilia's 302/303 years old since lilia said that mal should've hatched by 2-3 years. theoretically speaking, present malleus should've been around late 30s to early 40s by now (397 years old). but alas, he was delayed.

now, present lilia says he's nearing 700 years old. he's nearing 70 years old so that's around 68-69 years for humans. considering his speech and mindset while still having the slow ability to adapt to the present world, it's just....right.

now if mal is 178 and lilia's 700, look at mal being 18 and lilia is 70 in human ages. silver is 17, sebek is 16. just clicks right in my humble opinion.

this is all just hypothetical analysis since the fae worldbuilding concepting in different forms of media is complex. however, this is the closest i could decipher to how we see them in a mortal light. now i shall rest my brain i hate math.

I actually like her to be so short that she made Sebastian look tall and Sam looked like a giant so maybe at most 160 cm (5’3) but I like her to be 155 cm (5’1). To me, she’s the youngest in the trio but not by much so maybe 21-22.

• Emily

She and Haley (and Leah) are the taller bachelorettes, definitely above 170 cm (5’7) not as tall as Haley but still pretty tall. I think she’s about 173 cm (5’8). She’s definitely one of the older bachelorettes and I like her a bit older than Leah so 31-32.

• Haley

The tallest bachelorette, she could be a model in the city due to her beauty and height. She’s at LEAST 175 cm (5’9) but she can be taller. A bit older than Abigail, so 23.

• Leah

One of the taller bachelorettes but still shorter than the sisters, 170 cm (5’7) is perfect to me. She’s a bit younger than Emily and Elliott but still one of the older marriageable character so 28-30 years old.

• Maru

Despite both Robin and Demetrius being tall, Maru is average at most. She’s not short but not as tall either, I think 165 cm (5’5) is perfect height for her. IMO she’s the youngest bachelorette and the youngest marriageable character overall, she’s a genius so I think she skipped grades and gets degree earlier. 19-20 years old.

If Abigail is short, then Penny is tiny. Her and Pam are very short so they make many of the residents look tall, she’s no more than 152 cm (5’0). She’s slightly older than the ASS trio (+Alex and Haley) but she’s not part of the older marriageable characters so she’s about 24-25 years old.

He’s a pretty tall and athletic guy, definitely above average so I think he’s about 183-185 cm (6’0-6’1). He’s the same age as Haley, Sebastian, and Sam (23 years old).

• Elliott

He’s built like those hunks in bodice ripper novel covers so he’s TALL, at the very least he’s 188 cm (6’2). He’s one of the older marriageable character and he’s definitely in his 30s, my hc is that he’s the youngest one in the trio of older bachelors so I think he’s about 32 years old.

• Harvey

He’s like a Slenderman, very tall and lanky. To me, he’s the tallest bachelor and one of the tallest characters. He’s actually 195 cm (6’4ish) but he has terrible posture so he looks 190-191 cm (6’3). He’s the oldest canon marriageable character and he has MD so he’s at least 34 years old but I think he’s 37.

• Sam

He’s above average but has long limbs that made him look taller, he’s 180-182 cm (5’11) but sometimes likes to claim he’s 6’0. Despite acting like a teenager, he’s 23.

• Sebastian

Robin might be tall but he did not get her genes on that one, the rest? Sure, especially his face but not height, sadly. I think 173 cm (5’8) is the perfect height for him, but sometimes I like to make him 170 cm (5’7) for shits and giggles. 23 years old.

I write purely for Din Djarin (though I read and rec other Pedro Pascal characters and other Star Wars media). Whilst not all my stories include smut, they usually contain adult themes and language, so they’re suitable for over-18s only 🔞

My writing is extremely detailed and character-oriented, and I research and proofread/edit thoroughly. I never start publishing something until it’s fully written. As a result, producing content takes me a while, but I hope this ensures that my completed works are high-quality, immersive experiences for my readers.

My preferred format is OC!Reader, by which I mean I keep physical descriptions blank or vague to allow as many people as possible to relate to my protagonists, but I fully develop their backstories and personalities to ensure dynamic characters. I mostly write female protagonists, and I use a combination of second-person (OC!Reader’s POV) and third-person (Din’s POV) perspectives.

Genuinely baffling to me how WatchMojo will list Charmed (2018) as #1 on its list of top 10 failed TV show reboots and there’s still reboot stans who come out swinging to defend it, with them citing how seasons 1 and 4 were good actually, and season 5 would have brought in the 1998 original actresses. Also reboot fans stating that because it made it to four seasons, the reboot was successful.

Uh, no. Charmed (2018) only made it to four seasons because of The CW’s streaming output deal with Netflix. [Source] Ratings for all four seasons were very low, and season 4’s ratings tanked in particular. [Source] If you state only two (or one-and-a-half) seasons of a four-season show are good, then your show is probably not good to begin with. General audiences were simply not into the reboot, and the majority of the online fandom jumped ship after seasons 2 and 3.

Stating the reboot was successful because it got four seasons is a laugh. Compare the reboot’s 72 episodes (with season 4 coming in at a total of 13 episodes) with the original’s 8 seasons, 178 episodes, two series of tie-in novels, continuation comics, guidebooks, and an official magazine. The reboot lasted only 6 episodes longer than Shannen Doherty’s tenure as Prue Halliwell on the original series (3 seasons, 66 episodes).

For everybody saying season 5 would have been a crossover with the original series: Nope. Joey Falco flat-out stated on Twitter that they wrote the series finale without consulting anybody on the original show nor reaching out to the OG actresses for a cameo/crossover appearance. He explicitly stated they were not trying to get Shannen Doherty (the one OG actress most supportive of the reboot, however lukewarm) because they didn’t want the Charmed reboot to turn into “The Shannen Doherty Show”.

Besides, the reboot cast & crew burned their bridges with the OG cast way before the reboot even aired, what with the personal attacks on the OG actresses, the reboot cast liking posts that called the OG women “too old” to do a job they’d done then-12 years ago, and the reboot cast/writers spreading outright lies and misinformation about the original 1998 show — and never apologizing for their behavior when they were called out and presented with facts by both the 1998 Charmed fandom and the actresses themselves. Jennie Snyder Urman (creator/developer of the reboot) flat-out stated at one point that she always felt the backlash against the reboot was not because the new characters were Latina/Afro-Latina.

So please, do tell how the reboot cast/crew expected to get Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty, Rose McGowan, and Alyssa Milano to appear on their show after spending the past four years dissing them and the show they’d worked on for 8 years, all while downplaying the cultural impact of the original series and acting like it never existed while stealing its name and worldbuilding ideas. Especially when Sarah Jeffery called Holly and Rose racist simply for them stating they don’t like the reboot and they were cracking jokes about Netflix removing their show while leaving the reboot.

Acknowledgment of the Halliwells’ universe in the reboot basically boiled down to one (1) appearance of Melinda Warren in the Veras’ BOS from the pilot that was then never followed up on, and then the last few episodes before the reboot finale setting up the multiverse. That’s it.

Again, this was AFTER the reboot crew had spent four years dissing and downplaying the original series. Nobody from the 1998 show (outside of a few minor character actors) was involved in the reboot, not even Constance M. Burge — the creator of the 1998 series. Everything about the reboot states it was developed by Jennie Snyder Urman, Jessica O'Toole, and Amy Rardin. Burge is only in the official credits for legal reasons, because it was her idea they used for this in-name-only show. Even the pilot episode script (despite Burge’s name appearing in the credits on the final pilot) states it was written by O'Toole and Rardin and the story is by Urman, O'Toole, and Rardin. Zero mention of Constance M. Burge.

To be clear: I am not saying that people cannot like the reboot, because fandom is fandom and for whatever reason, some people do like the reboot.

What baffles me is people saying that because they personally like the reboot, that automatically makes it a good show. It’s not. The writing and plotlines are all over the place; it had three showrunner changes throughout its four-season run; it never found its footing; and the special effects and acting are not good even for a CW show.

As for how the Veras are written: They could easily have kept the initial concept last name of Pruitt and written/cast these girls with biracial black/white actresses, because that is how very little their Puerto Rican heritage affects their storylines. Maggie and Mel were written like basic white college girls.

For all the reboot hyped itself up as being full of Latina representation…. where the fuck was it? Mel having a Puerto Rican flag in her bedroom and Maggie fixing everyone her mom’s coquito recipe for Christmas ain’t it. Mel’s actress being the only one of the three that’s Latina (Puerto Rican) IRL sure as fuck isn’t it. The Veras only used one (1) spell derived from Santeria, an Afro-Cuban religion. Macy and Galvin get a subplot focused on Yoruba, a West African religion; and Macy gets a spell derived from voodoo to access one of her demonic powers. Otherwise the rest of their witchcraft is derived from Harry Potter-esque spells and Wicca — the exact thing the cast/crew dragged the OG series for: having witchcraft centered in European traditions.

Where’s the Latin American witchcraft? The Puerto Rican culture and food? Marisol directly immigrated to the USA from Puerto Rico, and I’m honestly supposed to believe she didn’t raise her daughters to be bilingual and didn’t speak Spanish around the house with them?

So what’s your favorite comic book of all time? :)

Superman Family #178, September 1976, Pencils/Inks: Kurt Schaffenberger

My absolute favourite comic of all time....this comic changed the course of my life.

It may not be the first comic book I ever picked up, but it was the one that secured my life long love for comics. It came out when I was 8 years old, and I don't think it was new when I got it, but it couldn't have been more than 1978 when it came in to my life. Probably a yard sale find, or a school swap meet...I don't remember. I do remember thinking how cool all of it was...the newsprint, the colours...and the characters...

...Superman and Lois, Supergirl, Jimmy Olsen...they became my heroes. Hundreds of thousands of comics later, this one still rattles around in my brain, and lives in my heart.

I remember being so excited for the next Superman comic I could find...and then the next, and the next, and if I couldn't find Superman, Batman was good too...or Wonder Woman, or The Justice League, or any DC Comic, or if I couldn't find a DC, then Marvel, or Archie, or Gold Key, and if I couldn't find a comic, then a science fiction novel, or a TV show, or a roleplaying game, or, or, or....

This one comic lit the fuse.

Here are seven snippets from The Unfortunate Moth:

1.

"It's dreadful!" Mr. Colman cried. He wasn't quite wringing his hands and tearing his hair, but he wasn't far off. "How can they have arrested her? Anyone can see she can't possibly have done it!"

Yo-han studied Mr. Colman carefully. Both times he'd seen him before he had gotten the impression of falseness, an impression that had been strengthened when he learnt the man was an actor. But if he was acting now he was giving the performance of a lifetime.

Cabin 178 was almost depressingly devoid of anything to show its occupant's personality. Mrs. Patton-Langdale had a framed photograph and her own alarm clock. Miss Patton had her murder mysteries. Yo-han himself had his calligraphy set and photo album. But Máté Király had his suitcase and nothing else. No photographs, no letters, no books, no trinkets of sentimental value, not even any sign of a hobby. Yo-han found himself wondering how the man passed the time.

Király gestured Yo-han to the only chair in the room. He sat on the bed himself and took a cigarette case out of his pocket, then changed his mind and put it away. Whether that was because he thought it would be rude to smoke in such a confined space, or simply didn't want to give away the slightest detail about himself, was up for debate.

Yo-han had never investigated a case where everyone was so convinced the main suspect was innocent. It was almost enough to make him suspect Miss Patton in spite of himself.

Yo-han's theory was becoming a near-certainty. To prove it he produced the letter. "This was in your employer's cabin. Did she often read your letters?"

As an answer Király gave Yo-han a lesson in the sort of Hungarian not generally used in polite society.

"Speaking of Miss Patton, she assured me this letter has nothing to do with the case. But it is a mystery, and I dislike more than one mystery at a time. Makes a case so much more complicated than it needs to be. Perhaps you can explain." Yo-han's tone made it clear this wasn't a suggestion.

Yo-han had never subscribed to the idea that tastes in literature were an accurate reflection of innocence or guilt. When he had caught a serial rapist last year, the man's bookshelf had been full of reference books on marine botany and the lives of Catholic saints. On the other hand his landlady during his stay in Berlin had been a sweet little old lady who wouldn't hurt a fly and loved gruesome horror novels.

One thing was absolutely certain. The killer's cabin was on the same corridor as the victim's. It simply wasn't practical to carry a saw and a gun for any distance. Plus the proximity would make it easier to know when Mrs. Patton-Langdale was alone. All he had to do was search the cabins — though by now the killer would certainly have disposed of the murder weapon — and question everyone in them. He would pay special attention to the passengers who had quarrelled with the victim two or more days before the murder. It had been planned for at least that long; the hole in the wall showed this wasn't a spur-of-the-moment explosion of temper.

What was your first story about?

You're gonna need to be more specific. When you say "First Story" do you mean the My Little Pony fanfic I dictated to my mom when I was 4? Or the 276 page novel I pumped out in freshman year of high school because I was amped up on methylphenidate?

...I'm going to assume the latter because I remember more of that one.

It was a story about a war between two city-states. Countries? I referred to them largely as cities with plenty of wilderness between them and I called the setting "neo-greek steampunk" but that basically translated to "Jak and Daxter/Jak II levels of technology but also there's little greco-roman elements thrown into everyone's outfits but also the clothing is essentially modern." I was aesthetically ALL OVER THE PLACE.

The antagonistic city, Hecataea ("I'm so clever" said 14-year-old me) had this training program where children were basically trained in harnessing and weaponizing magic from early childhood. Theova "Theo" Locke, my main character from the more technologically-driven City-state of Aerithae, was sent in by her father Silas (Who, reading my own writing I realize I basically wrote a Gendo Ikari before I even knew what Neon Genesis Evangelion was) into this fucked-up training program to learn everything they could about the enemy's tactics. Theo also had a loyal and protective (and kind of fussy) fairy friend Avari even though I never really explained the presence of fairies in this world. Theo was absolutely a Daddy's girl though and was absolutely unflinchingly loyal to her father, but in the midst of this fucked up magical training program behind enemy lines, she made a close friend, Aleric. Eventually Theo and Silas had to return to Aerithae. But then Theo and Aleric made a promise to stay alive and find each other when the war was over. Fast forward a couple years, and.... oop. They're both fighting for their respective cities.

There was drama! There was espionage! There was a whole subplot about a sword talking to a guy inside his brain and telling him to be fucked up and evil! Everyone had daddy issues! There was childhood friendship romantic tension! There was so much inconsistent characterization oh my god it physically pains me to read some parts, but other parts I can see that my 14 year old self was "Fuck cops and fuck occupying forces" and I'm proud of her for that. Eventually the story ended with the revelation that Silas wasn't Theo's biological father, and he was intending to use the fucked up evil magic sword to make... basically nukes, Theo punched him out and Avari sacrificed himself to disable the bombs, but Theo and all her friends got arrested. So I was kind of planning to turn the whole thing into a saga, but I think I only made it 178 pages into the sequel (they get out of prison and start on a quest across the land but I ended up losing a lot of steam once the team broke up) before I got a completely different idea, switched gears hard, and wrote a 400 page novel about something completely unrelated.

Honestly though, looking back I really loved some of my funky little worldbuilding concepts. I had airships (I couldn't not have airships), people were using swords and crossbows just as much as they were using guns (Hell, Theo had a spear because I thought polearms were the coolest weapons), and instead of phones people had these things called "Portable Lantern Comms" or "PLC's" that they would drop scraps of paper into the flames and the words would appear in someone else's flames. And also... they could be... hacked??? There was like... a Lantern Internet??? 14 year old me was just beginning to learn how to worldbuild, but I gotta admit I like her moxie.

❣️ My Secret Love - I’m absolutely loving this show!! it’s so hilarious and the perfect proof that you can actually make something out of a seemingly simple bl plot lol. The dynamic between Mek and Kim is super entertaining, also Lee and Park have no business being the most adorable couple I’ve ever seen djkghfd. I love them so much. The setup is nice and it plays with several bl clichés in a very cunning way. Super excited for the rest of the season!! 💜

6. Which complete fic do you wish had gotten more attention?

I am grateful for any and all kind interaction with my fics. One thing I did eye was the difference between Callisto and Where There Be Dragons. Callisto is an experiment on my part and has received some amazing support from Thunderfam. However, I feel my writing hasn’t been as inspired (or crazy) or posted fast enough to garner and keep attention. The Steampunk AU grabbed much more attention, had zero planning, was written fast and on the fly and grabbed almost the same amount of attention. The Promotions Coordinator in me is curious about these things :D

7. Have you written any crossovers?

Only one. I wanted to put Virgil behind the wheel of Kitt from Knight Rider. Eos and Kitt were having very interesting interactions as well :D  I really Need Saving

8. What is the craziest fic you’ve written?

Um…there have been a few. From Tracy brothers dancing to Tom Jones, the time a drunk Scott and Virgil tried to save a cat from a tree, hospitalising Virgil because of Grandma’s chilli, and the time I jammed Thunderbird One in the pool, but my favourite has to be Prank War. It was so much fun. I’ve linked all the nutty fics together in a series on Ao3.

9. What’s the fic you’ve written with the saddest ending?

The saddest endings are all my WiPs! I don’t tend to do much in the way of sad endings. Sad fics, yes, endings, not so much. Having said that, I’m blaming @godsliltippy  for Leaf on the Wind.

10. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I don’t have a clue, but I am partial to the end of Dirt. I got to flex Tracy money muscle…a lot :D

11. What is your smuttiest fic?

I experimented in this arena during my Virgil/Kayo writing spree with varying success. There is about five I think in total, including the novel length Gentle Rain (which can be read without it, wasn’t planned and just happened), but I think the most successful was To Hurt Us (aka Veggie’s Shower Fic).

12. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Very, very rarely. I did receive one review once that complained about how many unfinished fics I had – that more were unfinished than finished. This triggered me a bit as this is an ongoing problem of mine and I struggle to focus long enough to complete works. Having said that I have completed several, for me, long fics, my longest being 68,000 words. Also, as a result of that and my distressed post about it (yeah, triggered, what can I say?) I received some amazing support both on and off Tumblr. Thunderfam rocks!

13. What is the nicest comment you’ve received?

I am seriously spoilt by Thunderfam on a regular basis, there have been many comments that have lifted my spirits, inspired me and just made my day so much better. Again, Thunderfam rock!

I’m jaded, so I wouldn’t be surprised. But one thing I actually like is when some random thing I threw into a fic pops up in fanon :D

Review & Recommendation:  Female General Eldest Princess / 女将军和长公主 by 请君莫笑

synopsis

16 year old Lin Wanyue takes the name of her twin brother, after he and her whole village get killed in a Hun attack. Having no place to go to, she joins the army in order to survive and also be able to take revenge for her loved ones. Her sole focus in live is to kill 118 Huns, the exact number of villagers that got killed in the attack.

Around the time her second year in the army rolls around, the empress dies and both the situation at court as well as the border where Lin Wanyue is stationed gets more dire.

Li Xian, the eldest princess, not only has to deal with the death of her mother but also protect her brother, the only 8 year old crown prince. Seeking for support she turns to her uncle who serves as the Grand Marshal of the army at the border. He just so happens to be Lin Wanyue’s superior who’s eye she catches with her wit and strength on the battlefield.

expectations

the translators say that this has a happy ending so i am already intrigued and the whole set-up of soldier/bodyguard and princess screams romance tropes. i was expecting some ridiculousness because how would a mere foot soldier meet the eldest princess of such a huge country and li xian needing lots of protection from lin wanyue.

my thoughts and feelings

i had a lot of fun reading this! especially the parts that concerned the protagonists feeling out their sexualities were sweet, funny and bold at times.

there is much more battling and court intrigue going on than i expected but i enjoyed the complicated set-up. the only thing i missed was that sometimes everything was leading up to a big battle or show-down only for the story to fade to black and all happenings getting shortly recounted in style of a historical chronicle. 

if i remember correctly the author was really young when she wrote this and since this was published as an on-going online novel there is an overall imbalance on how detailed and to what length events get described which was sometimes a bit disappointing.

especially towards the end, some plot twists concerning personal relationships came out of nowhere and parts felt rushed to the detriment of the emotional arc of the story. i was yearning for a bit more of a traditional set-up and pay-off style.

however I adored the two main characters and how flawed and complicated they were. the angst in between was understandable and made sense and it excited me to see two multi-facaded female characters that, by both their faults, clashed at times while also being strongly drawn to each other.

lin wanyue was delightfully head-over-heels for the princes from moment one and i on turn, fell in love with her. li xian was very surprising in her cold decision making but i admire her intellect a lot.

which is why i would love to have gotten a bit more of emotional development towards the end.

overall their character arcs were amazing, only in the end would i see how they had subtly changed over the years and matured. this is also one of the novels where everyone at 16 is much smarter than myself...

as if the author had written this especially for me it also managed to tick of the found family trope in multiple ways which made me very happy.

the author is also a lesbian, so sapphic feelings all-around!

Despite some minor parts where I would’ve wanted a bit more, I can only recommend this lesbian romance!!!

So Cai Yan? What’s up with her?

So, Cai Yan.  Who is she and why should she matter?

Cai Yan, more commonly known by her style name Cai Wenji (Actually, Zhaoji, but historians changed it due to the taboo of sharing a name with an emperor, in this case, Sima Zhao) was a poet, and musician now well-known for her poetry and her tragic story, as well as her father (Cai Yong)’s association with Dong Zhuo and his untimely death. 

Before we delve into her past, I gotta say it here- Cai Yan was extraordinarily talented.  Even if you don’t like her poetry, she was an accomplished calligrapher much like her father, studied his works and was very close with him and thus was pretty intelligent and well versed, and was said to have memorized, recited, and recorded 400 novels/books upon Cao Cao’s request.  Like, I can’t remember what homework was assigned to me two hours ago and she memorizes all that. Cao Cao himself trusted her words to be exactly as they were written. She was an excellent debater too. 

Okay, so- what’s her story? 

It’s depressing.

Cai Yan’s birthdate or year or anything wasn’t really recorded, so it’s estimated to be somewhere from like,,,, 170-178 or so, since she was married in 192. Speaking of that first marriage the guy died pretty much right away and she had no children and we all know nobody really wants a widow in ancient China, so that sucks. Anyways, these guys called the Xiongnu are nasty people that storm in and abduct her around 194-195. Also her father died like 2-3 years before this, not even from old age, but from being thrown in prison unfairly. 

We don’t know much about her time with the Xiongnu but considering she had two kids and was abducted, we can all assume that wasn’t by choice. She ‘married’ one of the leaders and had his kids, and was stuck there for 12 whole years. This misery was the inspiration for her most famous poem, "Poem of Sorrow and Anger". 

Cao Cao, being Cao Cao, found out where she was and paid a huge ransom for her freedom.  It was said he did this to placate her ancestors but it was likely also out of respect for Cai Yong (Who was like, the fucking MAN that everyone adored, best scholar of the time, etc. etc all the good stuff) and out of hope for some of his knowledge to have stuck with his daughter.  It did. Very much did.

Cao Cao helped our poor Cai Yan out by arranging another marriage for her (single ladies in ancient china don’t do well) and giving her the opportunity to write down all of her father’s works and poetry and music, as well as her own original works, which were said to be just as good. They worked together closely and contributed a ton to the academic writings and poetry of the time period. It seemed the two were close friends and Cao Cao cared for her enough to spare her husband when he committed a crime, something that was pretty much never done (Guy was strict, after all). 

So what’s up with Cai Yan?  What’s up with Cai Yan, you ask?

Honestly, what isn’t up. Extraordinarily talented, intelligent, and well spoken, a huge contributor to the poetry and academia of the time, friend of Cao Cao, still remembered to this day for her poetry and music contributions, and daughter of THE definitive scholar of the late Han. (Well, okay, there’s others too but I love Cai Yong and Cai Yan so sue me) 

I love her.

And that’s why I’m constantly butthurt by her portrayals in video games.

HUGE list of info we’ve learned from the After The Fall Novel

Grimm

Dromedon are camel like Grimm that can spit venom (p.150). Jackalopes are huge four-legged beasts with black fur, branching red and white antlers, and powerful hind legs (p.150). Ziraphs are three headed Grimm that resemble a giraffe. Their bodies are covered in red spots that bear resemblances to a leopard, and each head has two horns. The Ziraph is described as five stories tall, and has razor-like plates on their (four) legs (p.151). Ravagers are small bat-like Grimm, that are described as dark and leathery, and are uglier than Nevermores (p.69). A visual will be provided by RWBY Amity Arena soon, if datamines are to be believed. A Blind Worm is an enormous worm-like Grimm with a singular red eye. These Worms are easily as big as Flatback Sliders, but are built to be far faster when traveling in sands. Their defenses include hooks and pitons for teeth and acidic blood (p.263). King Taijitu are also native to Vacuo

Carmine Esclados and Bertilak Celadon Carmine and Bertilak are veteran Huntsmen who work for an unknown employer that has hired them to traffic people with powerful Semblances for an unknown motive. In After the Fall, the duo targets Gus and Edward Caspian, having met them in Vale and followed them to the Felspar settlement Vacuo (p.28). They are detained and arrested by team CFVY. Both Carmine and Bertilak are originally from Shade Academy (p.32). Bertilak Celadon Bertilak is a tall, broad, and muscular man with a green mohawk and matching goatee. He sports a brown, hooded cloak, a green chestplate, and a black tunic. Bertilak has a long scar along his right forearm, and uses a large chained mace (p.31). He is 6’6” (p.215). He is racist towards Faunus. He apparently barely graduated from the Academy (p.31), and is considered an ass, as Fox put (p.108). Celadon’s Semblance is generating heat, he can use it to form walls of sand and to cause enemies to be exhausted (p.137). Bertalik faces off against Fox Alistair and Edward Caspian in a sandstorm, and is subsequently defeated. His weapon is destroyed. Carmine Esclados Carmine hails from the Kingdom of Atlas, though she claims she chose to study in Shade Academy due to a disdain towards Atlas Academy’s uniforms (p.35). Her clothes are from Mistral (p.33). Carmine’s Semblance is Telekinesis, which she frequently uses to create localized weather patterns and to manipulate her weapons (p.254). Additionally, Carmine has used her Semblance to dig tunnels through sand in order to escape peril. Carmine is stated to have less mastery over her Semblance than Glynda Goodwitch. She is defeated by Yatsuhashi Daichi, Velvet Scarlatina, and Coco Adel.

Wildlife Vacuan wildlife includes, but is not limited to: Geckos Mole crabs; massive crab-like creatures that move in herds and bury themselves in the sand. Their blood is described as a clear liquid, and their bodies contain water that is almost black in color. Mole crabs are considered a delicacy in Vacuo, and are very rarely killed due to how dangerous they are. Flatback sliders; giant turtles that average at 100ft of height and swim through Vacuan deserts. Sliders have terrible vision, and are considered a sign of good luck when spotted. They are not Grimm (p.204). Food in Remnant Mistral is the kingdom with the most spices in all of Remnant (p.36). Vacuan food includes: Cactus leaves, coffee, crab burgers, crab steak, crab cake, crab rangoon, fried crevice worms, cave beetles (toasted), desert lotus tea, cactus tea, gecko cake (p.30), bat stew, ale, flatbread (p.37), breadfruit (p.79) Sand is jokingly referred to as the “local spice” of Vacuo as it can’t be fully removed when preparing food. Beacon Academy Notes Initiation For CFVY’s initiation, the characters were hurled into the Emerald Forest much like in Volume 1. The Relics they were assigned to obtain were small stone tablets with playing card symbols etched onto them. Coco obtained the Joker Fox took the King of Hearts Velvet took the Queen of Hearts All upperclassmen watch the initiation live from Beacon, and judge newcomers based on their performances. Professors and Classes Ann Greene - Stealth and Security (p.80) Thumbelina Peach - Plant Science (p.269) Peter Port - Military Strategy (p.269) Harold Mulberry - Weapon Crafting and Upkeep (p.269) Bartholomew Oobleck - Legends of Remnant (p.269) Glynda Goodwitch - Combat Training (p.269) Ozpin does not teach any classes. Pharos Academy Pharos is a combat school in Vale. Coco and Velvet attended Pharos. They knew of each other but weren’t friends then. Coco developed a reputation for being a heartbreaker and record setter. Vega Bleu is a friend of Velvet who also went to Pharos, but chose to go to Atlas. He wields a pair of arm-mounted grappling hooks (p.52)

Vacuo Notes Popular Vacuan tourist gift shop t-shirts include: “Vacuo: The Wrong Place at the Wrong Time” and “A Terrible Place to Visit, but You Wouldn’t Want to Live Here” (p.1) Vacuan fashion: simple, light-colored tunics and linen cloaks/head coverings (p.15) Vacuo has a survival of the fittest lifestyle, and strength/survivability makes you well liked (p.15) Vacuan settlements/tribes include: Tuff, destroyed by Grimm Oscuro Coquina Kenyte (partially destroyed by a giant sinkhole) Schist (destroyed by Grimm) Feldspar It’s built out of several tents, trucks/vans, and adobe homes without and defenses Has a support CCT tower Vacuan deserts are windy, thus making it extremely hard to track people in the sandy environment (p.23) Aloe is a common sunscreen in Vacuo The saying ‘I’ll take a rain check’ means the same as ‘when pigs fly’ in Vacuo Vacuan terms: Misery’s Kiss (sunstroke), Lasting Regret (food poisoning), Sudden Demise (giant sinkholes; p. 78).

Edward and August ‘Gus’ Caspian Edward is a slender, old man at 71 years of age with silver hair tied into a ponytail and a stubble. He is a former Huntsman, which is surprising because most Huntsmen don’t live long. His weapon is a small buckler shield with a metal blade (p.81) and a gun function (p.179). Edward’s Semblance is blocking other people’s Semblances. Gus has the Semblance of amplifying emotions, only he can’t control it. He kept this a secret from others (p.130). He has no interest in being a Huntsman, unlike his grandfather, Edward. August is roughly eleven or twelve. The Caspians were targeted by Carmine, Bertalik, and their unknown boss because of their powerful Semblances.

CFVY and Other Teams CFVY and RWBY became friends shortly after the latter team was formed. Ruby seems to be close to Coco, Velvet and Fox. Both teams respect each other due to their respective hotshot reputations. The two teams lost touch after the Fall of Beacon. CFVY and Neptune/Sun were friends. They meet each other in the Epilogue of the book in the settlement of Coquina, where Sun informs the team about the events at the Battle of Haven, meaning After the Fall takes place right at the start of Volume 6. Velvet notes that Sun doesn’t seem like he wants to stay in Shade for long.

The Battle and Fall of Beacon Velvet observed team ABRN easily defeat a Death Stalker during the Battle of Beacon Roy Stallion was killed after being carried off by a Nevermore, the rest of team BRNZ is missing, presumed to be dead. Glynda set up her office in a library after the Fall of Beacon, and is operating the reconstruction of Vale. Team CFVY does not trust the Kingdom of Atlas following the Fall. Beringels were present at the Fall of Beacon.

Team CFVY’s Missions CFVY’s mission in the present day was to defend the settlement of Gossan due to a Grimm outbreak after they received a distress call. They found the settlement had been destroyed, and aided the survivors in reaching the settlement of Feldspar. After Feldspar was invaded by Grimm, the team successfully lead the nomads to Coquina without any casualties. They uncovered Carmine and Bertalik’s plan to traffic people, and arrested the two. CFVY’s Mt. Glenn mission was considered an outright failure. The team was sent to a small settlement called Lower Cairn near Mt. Glenn due to a distress call. There, they found the settlement was outright flattened, which was incredibly outside the Grimm’s MO. CFVY found a family of six hiding in a cave near the ruins, and attempted to rescue them. To their horror, the father was killed by an Ursa, and the rest of the family fled back to the cave. The cave was then flattened by a Goliath that appeared, causing CFVY to retreat. The mission lasted ten days and was supervised by Professor Port, CFVY believes Ozpin overestimated their team. In V2, Velvet lies to team RWBY about their mission, partially due to shock and in part to not frighten the first years, given they were leaving off on their own missions shortly.

Ada Ada, or an “Accessibility Dialogue Assistant” is an earbud device intended to aid people with disabilities. It is designed to send pulses to distinguish the nearby environment, and is activated through voice control (p.46). Ada has a compass function(p. 176), as well as a battle mode called the Cyrano Protocol, which identifies weapons and weaknesses. The entire Ada system adapts to fit the user over time (p.178).

Miscellaneous Pig snouts are a confirmed Faunus trait (p.30) Pumpkin Pete is also a Looney Tunes-esque cartoon in addition to the cereal brand (p.12) Curry Up is one of the restaurants at Vale (p.239) Ruby made her V1 outfit herself with roughly 20 Lien (p.112) Coco and Oz once had a talk much like Ruby and Oz did in V1 (p. 117) Fox and Yatsuhashi confronted Weiss about her attitude in V1, shortly after team RWBY was formed (p. 121) More books in Remnant:  The Boy Who Fell from the Sky (p.122), My Sweet Samurai, and Hidden Remnant (p.161). ‘Catnap’ is an offensive term when talking about cat Faunus (p.161).

Fox Alistair Fox’s Semblance is that of telepathy. He can send message to people’s minds to convey his thoughts, and he can sense when people are close by. Fox’s Semblance is more precise if people are close by. When using it, other people feel as though they are being watched by something. He is originally from the Vacuan tribe of Kenyte, where he was considered a frail boy by his parents and peers. His parents were killed when a part of the settlement was destroyed in a sinkhole, resulting in him being taken care of by the tribe in a communal fashion. Fox was trained to fight by his honorary uncle, Copper, as he was the one person who didn’t view Alistair as frail. Copper was eventually killed by the tribe for training him as a punishment. Because of this, Fox decided to turn to Vale with the goal of protecting others who couldn’t protect themselves. Fox’s weapons are called Sharp Retribution.

Yatsuhashi Daichi Yatsuhashi’s Semblance allows him to wipe other people’s memories when he touches them. He can permanently wipe “easy memories,” which are trivial in nature, and temporarily wipe important memories, which return on an equal basis as to how they were wiped (so, if he were to wipe a day, then the person regains the memory the next day). Yatsu uses the Semblance sparingly, only wiping seconds at a time. Yatsuhashi was born in the city of Mistral, where he lived with his parents, grandfather, and his sister, Hiyoko. At the age of eight, he discovered his Semblance, and being a problem child, decided to use it to his advantage. However, this took a turn when, in a fit of jealousy, he wiped his mother’s memory of his sister for a day. Yatsuhashi was traumatized by this, and took care of Hiyoko while he waited for his mother’s memory to return. Once they did, he came clean to his parents about discovering his Semblance, to which his parents told him to never use the Semblance again. However, his grandfather suggested that he went to Beacon to master it to use his ability for good. Yatsu’s greatsword is called Fulcrum.

Coco Adel Coco’s Semblance, simply called Hype, allows her to use her Aura to increase the effects and power of Dust. She uses this to power the effect of her gatling gun’s bullets, thus explaining her power level in Volume 2. Additionally, Fox notes Coco has a large amount of Aura. She is native to Vale, and studied in Pharos, having developed a reputation as a heartbreaker and a record setter. Coco notes Ozpin reminds her of her younger brother. She admires Glynda’s leadership and tries to replicate that when talking to her team and when encouraging Ruby Rose. She designed her gatling gun, Gianduja, herself.

Velvet Scarlatina Velvet’s Semblance is Photographic Memory, it allows her to easily learn skills that would otherwise take years to master. Velvet, like Coco, is from Vale and studied in Pharos. At her time in the school, tormentors from Mistral frequently bullied her, causing Velvet to gain a deep seeded hatred for the Kingdom. She also dislikes Vacuo, mainly because it’s simply not as comfortable as Vale was to her. Velvet is sassy when with her team in comparison to her usual shyness around others. Her camera is called Anesidora.

Slate Slate is an old woman with spiky grey hair and what is described as a leathery face. She is the leader of Gossan nomadic tribe, and the former mayor of Tuff (where the tribe was originally settled), which had recently been destroyed by a Grimm outbreak (p.14). Slate is highly respected as a leader, gaining the trust of the entire nomadic tribe and team CFVY.
