My current plan to recover from my mental and emotional existence is to just go so deep into being insane that I'll come out sane on the other side. Being a chronic people pleaser plagued with impostor syndrome stretched me too thin, and that leash simply snapped and I am now a completely untethered, unapologetic vermin.

Fuck having impostor syndrome, if I'm not entitled to be here they should've barred the doors better. If I'm doing everything wrong because of imaginary rules that nobody told me about, that's their problem, you should have made your confusing system more idiot-proof.

I'm not here to please everyone and do everything right. I'm here to make bad art, chew on furniture, make people laugh, cook awful food and look at pretty landscapes, and piss off the people who don't want me to exist. If I have an unseen infinite debt somewhere that I can never pay back, I'm going to keep running that tab until I die. I'm alive purely because the universe is shit at pest control.

Opinions on "Slug girl" by Junji ito?

The story is about someone coming out after years in shunning themselves for a long while, too scared to show who they truly are on the inside because of the repercussions of the world. Afraid that when unconfined, the world would turn against her as if she’s a monster.

It couldn’t stay as a secret no longer, and her fears were correct. Her parents seeing her situation as a result of paranormal and disgust. Wanting to cleanse her like the slugs in their garden. They did it out of love, but only harmed her more and more. Leading to her being a shell of her former self; broken and lost, seeing themselves as the monster everyone looks away in disgust.

It’s a message (to me) of shunning your inner you just to appease others, and to avoid the inevitable conflict. It’s how parents can try and fix you, but if they don’t accept who you are or help out in a positive light, they’ll continue hurting like the sinking dread inside.

It’s difficult man, it’s scary to feel a certain way and having to shun it just to avoid being hurt. But if you don’t let the inner you out, or learn to accept that’s who you are, you’ll only hurt yourself. You deserve love, even if you’re a slug.

I don’t know man but I like slugs and junji ito :P
