☀️🌷 Florida Water
I see a lot of witches, more so the new ones, get confused as to what Florida Water is and if it's water from the beaches of the state, Florida. I can assure you, you do not have to travel all the way to Florida and fight crocodiles to get some water.
Tumblr media
What is Florida Water?
Florida Water came into the world in the start of the 19th century as a cologne for both women and men. It was a highly popular cologne in the late 19th century for it's rich and strong smell. It has a light flora scent with citrus overtones.
It became synonymes with spirituality when African-Americans in the Hoodoo sphere used it as a powerful spiritual cleanser, and because of it's pleasant smell, was also associated with appeasing the dead.
Generally, Florida Water is a spiritual cleanser, protective agent, and draws in luck, fantastic energy, and happiness.
Why is it called Florida Water?
Well, the word "Florida" is actually a Spanish word. Which roughly translates* to "Flower" or "Abundance of flowers" or "Flowery". Another way of saying Florida Water, in Spanish, is "Agua de flores".
How Do you make Florida Water?
Florida Water is still sold commercially with it's original formula from the 19th century, however, you can still make your own Florida Water at home. Recipes often change but have similar overlaps. Here's some ingredients to consider when making it, there's no need to use all of them, but it's always good to use most.
Citrus fruits -- Lemon, orange, grapefruit, lime.
Herbs and Flowers -- Rose, lavender, rosemary, mint, calendula, sage, thyme, jasmine, bergamot, violet, chamomile, basil. lemon balm, eucalyptus.
Spices -- Cloves, cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, anise.
An alcohol like Vodka** and distilled water.
Place ingredients into a large jar with a tight lid. Fill it half with vodka and then half with distilled water. Let it sit in a dark place, shaking it often, for at least 2 weeks to up to a month (you could make it during the new moon and complete it during the full moon). Then strain it using a sive and cloth and place into an airtight bottle.
The mixture should last you 6 months, keep out of direct sunlight, it's a good idea to write down when you made it and what ingredients it contains on a piece of paper and stick it to bottom of the bottle.
You may add essential oils to it as well or only use essential oils of the ingredients. You may also use fresh or dried ingredients. I prefer fresh. I also recommend using organic, so make sure your roses are not sprayed with pesticides and such.
Where do I use it?
Cleansing a space, yourself as a bodyspray, in rituals, to cleanse objects and charge them, offerings, warding off bad luck, to a bath, to be rid of bugs, your laundry, floor wash, to shine your iron tools, etc. Get creative!

(* Please note, Spanish is not my native language nor a language I study, takes these translations with a grain of salt.)
(** You may use grain alcohol as well, but do not use common household alcohol.)
My personal mix includes lemon, orange, lime, rose petals, mint leaves, rosemary, lavender, thyme, cinnamon sticks, garden sage, and mugwort. As well as vodka and distilled water.

⛲️Agua Florida/Agua De Florida(Florida Water)🌹
Florida Water is technically an eau de cologne (that's literally "cologne water" in English), but its formula, which hasn't changed much since its creation, it has shown to have all kinds of purposes too. It was originally created by perfumer Robert Murray but in 1835, businessman David Lanman, joined the company, followed in 1853 by another businessman George Kemp, Florida Water is also used within a lot of spiritual practices such as Hoodoo,Santeria/Lucumi(Lukumi), Haitian Vodou, Puerto Rican Sanse, Espiritismo, Brujería(folk magic), and many other practices, as Florida water was started to be used in spiritual practices by enslaved Afro-Folks and indigenous folks as well people who were generally oppressed and not allowed to practice their cultures, what should be noted is that even though Florida water isn’t necessarily close, there are many closed practices that do use this and many rites of Florida water rituals that are CLOSED, Florida water is great for purification, cleansing, protection, balance and duality of energies, connection to spirits(as it was used to connect with the spiritual realm and ancestral spirits), can be used in love magic and glamour magic as well, as a offering, Florida waters etymology is reference to the legend of the fountain of youth in Florida specifically a region called Bimini (possible spelling: Beimeni or Beniny) a Lucyao-Taino-Arawakan word meaning “two islands” or “the twins” (though the legend was never confirmed) believe to be the fountain that reverses aging and makes someone young as well blessing with wealth and prosperity that the Taíno people of Boriken(Puerto Rico) told Juan Ponce De Leon, though many scholars believe they were probably referring to the land of the Yucatán Mayas and others believe it was just part of their legends not an actual land, Florida water is very easy to make, and has a herbal scent, many recipes to this will be different due to different instructions but heres a video on how to make your own Florida water and Florida water can be used in anyway you wish HOWEVER DO NOT CONSUME IT, IT’S NOT EDIBLE AND CONTAINS CHEMICALS THAT COULD HARM YOU OR WORSE END YOUR LIFE, as well like I have stated before, THERE ARE CLOSED RITES TO FLORIDA WATER AND ITS PRACTICES. On that note have a great day (pictures below relate to Florida water and its appearance)
Until next time🍶✨🐬

Florida Water is a spiritual tool that is used throughout many different traditions and practices and is revered for its many abilities. It is used for cleansing, purifying, anointing, blessing, elevation, attraction, and as an offering, amongst many more. Some say it is a great equivalent to holy water. It can be placed on an altar to elevate the space and is commonly used as an ancestral offering. It can elevate your spirit and mood, attract love towards you, refresh your vibe, and you can anoint your living space with it for protection and purification. It can be used to anoint spiritual tools as well. There are a TON of ways to use Florida water and if I explained them all, this paragraph would be ginormous! Not to mention it also smells divine!
Did you also know the “Florida” doesn’t mean the state, but instead is a word for “flower”? However, some do say it can also mean the state because Florida is apparently where the fountain of youth is, but I may need to be fact checked on that, so definitely do your research when it comes to this lovely cologne!

Erzulie Freda.
Okay. When I saw this I had to share it. This is from Houngan Jak. A doll of Ayibobo Mambo Maitresse Erzulie wearing beautiful real jewelry and clothing.
(If you're wondering. Ayibobo is a ritual word that's a equivalent to “Amen” or "Blessings" and a few other meanest depending on how it's used)

👇Next is a photo of her being bathed in and bath made for her.

👇Oh, Check this out a Florida Water bottle created for her.

These aren't my photo they belong to Senjsk a Vodou priest. I just wasn't to share these.
If you are a devotee of any spirit, deity, Gods, Ansestors etc Look at the things they like or tell you they like and create something personal for them that comes from you.
They'll like it.

Maybe you have seen bottles of Florida Water in mystical shops or included in rituals of some kind. But, did you know that Florida Water was originally formulated as a remedy for skincare as well as a perfume? The commercially available version of Florida Water is heavily scented and good for spiritual practices but, I wouldn't want to use it on my skin. Instead I have been making my own Florida Water for a few years now and wanted to share the super simple recipe with you!

I need to make florida water but don't have a lot of extra funds ... Thinking about making it as a hydrosol and then adding alcohol to the hydrosol for preservation. Anyone else tried this method? Any tips or ideas?
