2021: Spring Break 2021 - Melbourne St. Patrick's Day Festival
While on Spring Break 2021 we went to the Melbourne, Florida St. Patrick’s Day Festival. This spread uses just one photo from the event, but has a lot of ephemera. I did not do a great job of taking pictures at this event, mostly because I had bags I was holding from items I had bought as well as street food in my hands which made having my phone out difficult. I naturally chose green as the…

COLOURS: Symbolisms, Associations & Psychological Effects
Black. Especially in Gothic literature from the West, a black colour choice often represents death, evil, grief, and depression. Associated with fear, the unknown and often has a negative connotation. Black clothes can make you look thinner. A black background severely diminishes the readability of most type. Often the go to colour for funerals and grieving. It symbolizes stability and power, which gives a sense of authority. Thus, the black colour often represents professionalism and expertise.
Blue. Has positive and negative connotations in colour psychology. Some writers may use blue to represent serenity and tranquility, instilling a scene with a calming effect. Blue can also signify sadness, melancholy, or isolation. People who find someone very loyal and faithful are often called "true blue". Blue is often considered to be more masculine which is why it is often the colour of choice when choosing a suit. Lighter blues are associated with tranquility, softness and healing. Darker blues are associated with power, knowledge and seriousness. Blue is actually shown to suppress appetites a bit. The colour blue symbolizes wisdom and hope. It’s the colour of peace and confidence. Blue has been shown to reduce blood pressure and pulse rate. It fosters serenity and a sense of belonging.
Green. The colour green often symbolizes rebirth, growth, peace, jealousy, and greed. Green colours may also represent spring and renewal. It is a colour that is very easy on the eyes. Dark green is often associated with ambition. Green suggests stability, safety and hope. At the same time, it may denote a lack of experience in a particular field. Green symbolizes peace, growth, and nature. It is the colour of success, promoting healing and tranquility.
Orange. The colour orange often represents energy, excitement, joy, and creativity. Since orange is the colour of fire, it may also symbolize heat. Since orange is not as aggressive as red, it can actually stimulate brain activity. It is very useful to catch someone's attention, which is why it's used a lot to advertise food and toys.
Pink. The colour pink symbolizes love, kindness, femininity, innocence, and playfulness. Certain shades of pink can limit aggression. Pink may be associated with unconditional love and caring.
Purple. Often associated with royalty, the colour purple symbolizes bravery, spirituality, and luxury. Light purple usually brings up romantic or nostalgic feelings; while a darker shade can make you feel gloomy or sad.
Red. The colour red symbolizes some of the most powerful human emotions, like passionate love or lust. On the other side of the spectrum, this warm colour is also the colour of blood, often symbolizing anger, danger, and violence. It stimulates the appetite. Red is an emotionally intense colour associated with energy, danger, anger, passion and determination. The symbolic meaning associated with the colour red is passion, excitement, and love. It’s the colour of urgency, power, and desire. Red is said to boost hunger and is believed to inspire confidence and excitement. This colour has also been found to increase blood pressure and heart rate.
White. This primary colour traditionally symbolizes innocence, peace, and cleanliness. In Western cultures, the colour white also represents purity and virginity, while it symbolizes mourning in some East Asian cultures. Usually has positive connotations when used and thought of as safe. Associated a lot with healing, simplicity and sterility, which is why it's used in hospitals and healing centers as much as it is. The symbolic meaning of the colour white is truth and sometimes even indifference. It encourages feelings of safety and cleanliness. Clean, white clothes and linens show sterility since stains are easily visible. That’s why doctors and nurses frequently wear white lab coats and scrubs.
Yellow. Writers may use the colour yellow to symbolize creativity, happiness, optimism, and warmth—think of a yellow ray of sunlight poking out from a dark cloud. A common negative connotation of the color yellow is cowardice, popularized by the phrase “yellow-bellied.” Warming effect which stimulates body and mind. Gold is associated with the highest of luxury. When bright yellow is used with black it's one of the easiest colour combinations to see from long distances; when uses with lighter colours it's not so easy to see. Yellow ribbons are worn as a symbol of hope and used quite often to welcome home loved ones. Yellow is the colour of warmth, kindness, and happiness. It’s often associated with optimism and well-being and promotes energy.
Brown. This warm, earthy brown colour may symbolize dependability, comfort, and a sense of being grounded. Brown is also a neutral colour, and writers may use it to represent dullness and predictability. Brown is a colour that is related to very grounded traits such as simplicity, practicality, common sense and hard work. Can also be associated with those that are frugal and not too flashy.
Gray. Lighter grays are often thought of as more feminine while darker grays more masculine. Gray is considered by many to be a neutral colour; the perfect balance between light and dark / good and evil. Pop up the lighter grays and add a little shine to it, and thought immediately turns to silver, which correlates to wealth.

~Mid to West~
Eddie Munson x Henderson reader road trip AU
Pairing:Eddie Munson x Henderson reader
Warnings:none
Words: 1,800
A/N: Had this idea a while ago finally decided to write it down.
Dustin wanted something; you knew it. He’d been doing your chores, letting you use the bathroom to get ready in the mornings without complaining, letting you take the first shower, folding your laundry, which he knew you hated doing.
You hadn’t said anything, not one to look at a gift horse in the mouth. However, it finally came to a head when Dustin came into your room with this morning tray in hand (the one your mom always used to bring you breakfast in bed on your birthdays or when you were sick). a bowl of honey nut Cheerios, a glass of orange juice, and a bowl of mixed fruit sit on top of it.
“I made you breakfast,” he said as he walked to you.
You gave him a strange look as he sat it on your nightstand. It was the weekend, so you had just been lounging around reading your new book since you woke up. “Why?” You finally asked, sitting up against your headboard, taking the food and starting to eat, still looking at him quizzically.
“What can’t a little brother just do something nice for his older sister, whom he loves so much?” Dustin defended unconvincingly.
"Yeah, they can, but you don’t,” you said, rolling your eyes. “Come on out with it, shitbird, you wait much longer. I’ll have finished my food, and you’ll have to wait till you can make a whole other meal,” you joked, popping a grape into your mouth.
"Alright, fine,” Dustin sighed, sitting on the edge of your bed. “I do want something, and I want you to really think about it before you say no.” He trailed off, avoiding your gaze.
“Okay?” You egged, kicking his shoulder lightly, ready for him to get on with it.
"Well, you know how summer break starts next week, and I’ve outgrown science camp, and there’s no way mom would let me fly. You know how much planes scare her, and Susie’s parents wouldn’t let her either, but Mom would probably let me if you went to and drove me." Dustin paused, seeing the confusion on your face. “Would you take me on a road trip to Utah to visit Susie over the summer? Well, not the whole summer, but while it’s happening." Dustin finished rambling, looking at you hopefully with his best puppy dog eyes.
"Ugh,” you groaned. "Really, Utah, come on, it’s like the asscrack of America.”
“No, I’m pretty sure that’s Florida.”
“I don’t even have a car; how are we going to get there?” You asked, both loving and hating, the way your little brother's eyes lit up.
“Don’t even worry about that; I’ve got it covered. Is that a yes?” He asked far too excited at 8:30 in the morning.
“It’s a yes if you can find us a car and somehow convince Mom to let us go,” you told him, condescendingly.
“Yes! Yes! Thank you, thank you, thank you; you're the best sister ever!” Dustin exclaimed, hugging you tightly.
"Yeah, yeah,” you mumbled, rolling your eyes as you tussled his hair. “I know, and don’t you forget it.”
***
That’s how Dustin found himself here, cleaning up after hellfire, about to ask Eddie if he’d be willing to drop his summer plans to drive him and his sister to Utah so he could see his girlfriend.
By some miracle, Dustin had convinced his overprotective mother to let him go, and Eddie was the last piece of the puzzle. Well, at least his van was deciding that even if it wasn’t the most reliable, it was the most spacious, meaning you’d have to spend less money on motels along the way, and you could fit more people, Lucas and Steve, on the top of his list to invite once he got the older boy to agree to this somewhat questionable plan.
“You’re oddly quiet, Henderson. What’s going on in the ginormous head of yours?” Eddie asked teasingly as he packed up his dice and began sliding his books into the book bag he’d had since his freshman year.
“What are your plans for the summer?” Dustin blurted it out, unable to keep it in any longer.
"Umm, I don’t know. Maybe plan a new campaign. I'm going to try to deal at some of the parties and make some extra cash. You know, I really enjoyed my last summer before I’m hurdled into a life of adulthood,” Eddie said, shrugging and throwing his bag over his shoulder. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m ecstatic about finally graduating, but now I have to actually grow up. It's a bummer." Eddie sighed jokingly, getting ready to lock up. They had one more hellfire meeting before school was over; it was all oddly emotional for him.
“Well, how fun does a road trip to Utah with your favorite little buddy sound for summer plans?” Dustin propositioned himself, smiling hopefully at him.
“Like actual hell,” the older boy deadpanned, walking out of the old drama room.
"Oh, come on, please, it’ll be fun, I promise, and me and Y/N really need your van,” Dustin pleaded, following after him.
“Y/N will be there?” Eddie asked, stopping in his tracks and smiling brightly when Dustin nodded. "Well, why didn’t you say so sooner? Utah sounds great!” Eddie exclaimed.
"Really, you only want to go for my sister?” Dustin asked with mock sadness in his voice.
“No Dustin I only want to go for your hot sister,” Eddie paused, laughing at the way Dustin’s nose wrinkled in disgust at his words. "Besides, you only want me to go for my van,” Eddie pointed out as they began walking to the parking lot.
“Fair enough,” Dustin shrugged, walking beside him.
“So where’s Utah, like Canada or something?”
“Oh my god,” Dustin mumbled, shaking his head, already regretting asking him to come.
***
After a week of anticipation a graduation ceremony where you, Robin, Eddie, and Nancy walked the stage and a lot of time spent making Eddie look at a map, it was finally time for your trip to begin. Dustin had been practically bouncing off the walls all morning, and he was excited to spend what you had calculated to be almost 23 hours in a car, not including stops.
Somehow, you ended up with six people coming on your little road trip: Eddie, Dustin, Steve, Robin, and Lucas.
Lucky for you, the Wheelers already had plans to visit the Byers, so you didn’t have to shove two more in there, and Max was going to summer camp.
You could practically hear when Eddie pulled into your street loud vehicle blasting music and erratic driving, doing nothing to keep him stealthy.
“Are you sure you guys really want to go?” Your mother asked you for the hundredth time. “Maybe you should stay.”
Dustin threw his head back, dramatically letting out a groan. “Come on, Mom, we talked about this. We’re going to be fine. You’ve got to give Dusty Buns a little freedom, plus I’ll be with him the whole time.” You paused walking over to Dustin, who was giving your mom puppy dog eyes, pinching his chin in between your fingers. “Besides, who could say no to this face?” you coed, knowing that as overprotective as she was, she had a hard time telling him no.
"Okay, okay, just be careful and call me,” she conceited, pulling you both in for a hug that you gladly returned as Eddie stopped his van. “I love you both; be careful,” your mom said, finally heading inside after one more hug for the both of you.
"Alright, come on guys, we’ve still got two more stops,” Eddie yelled from the van.
“Come on, DustyBuns, your damsel awaits,” you said, ruffling his hair and walking to the van.
***
After a few hiccups, I.E. Steve packing everything he owned you were finally on your way out of Hawkins Eddie driving you sitting shotgun with Dustin Steve Robin and Lucas in the back.
“I can’t believe this was the best way to spend my summer,” Robin groaned.
"Oh, come on, you guys, stop acting like we’re not going to have a blast,” Dustin said. "Besides, we’re already out of Hawkins, so you’re stuck,” he told you guys, mockingly pointing at the leaving Hawkins/Hell sign.
“Oh yeah, I guess we are,” Eddie said, distractedly casually flipping the bird to the sign as you passed it. “I guess you can probably come out now, red,” Eddie said, making everyone look at him in confusion.
“Finally!” You heard making all of you jump and shriek as you saw a figure jump out of the pile of blankets sitting in the corner of the van.
“Maxine Mayfield, what the fuck are you doing here?!” Steve yelled, clutching a hand to his chest.
"Yeah, she’s supposed to be at summer camp,” you scolded, seeing the smirk grow on Eddie’s face.
"Oh, come on, sweetheart, I couldn’t let one of my sheepies rot while we had all the fun,” he said, wiping the smirk off his face to pout at you comically.
"Yeah, Eddie was just helping me,” Max said, working her way to the front of the van and joining Eddie in looking at you pitifully. “Please don’t tell my mom I want to spend the summer with you guys.”
"Yeah, come on, doll, can we keep her?” Eddie asked hopefully.
"Yeah, let her stay,” Dustin and Lucas said, joining the side of Eddie and Max.
"Yeah, come on, we could use another girl." Robin joined in, leaving only you and Steve.
“Aww, what the hell, yeah, let’s let her stay,” and now you’ve lost Steve too.
“Please?” Max said one last time you looked at the whole van teaming up on you, eyes wide and sad as they waited for your answer.
And you almost held your ground until you looked at Eddie, his big brown eyes peering into your soul. His bottom lip jutted out.
"Fine,” you sighed, making the whole van erupt in cheers.
“Thank you, thank you,” Max said, hugging you.
“You’re really the best!” Dustin Lucas Robin and Steve all cheered one after the other as they went to talk amongst themselves, happy to have added a member to the group.
“Thank you, you’re my hero, princess." Eddie’s words caught your attention, finding his eyes already on you and smiling brightly.
"Oh, shut up,” you laughed, rolling your eyes as your face flushed at the nickname “And look at the road before you kill us all.” You finished pushing his chin to make him look at the road as you both laughed.
“Alright, road trip, baby, let’s go!” Eddie yelled, making the van erupt in cheers once more. You joined them this time, happy to be spending the summer with people you cared about.
Boy, were you guys in for it…

Hey do you still sell physical copies of Kong Exposure. I love that story and want a physical copy.
Also have you ever considered writing a middle grade comic? I'm a middle school librarian and I know some kids who would absolutely love your stories.
I can't wait for more Ride or Die or just anything else you make. You are an amazing story teller. And your art is just amazing!!
aw man thank you!! i do sell physical copies! hoping my online store is up soon!!
as for middle grade... I've thought about it but I'm not sure the things i like to write about would be ok for middle grade books. i would love to write something like Stand By Me, Super Dark Times, Summer of 84, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, The Florida Project etc... i keep getting told by agents/publishers they're only interested in light fluffy stuff rn which i don't personally have much interest in writing 😔🎻 my favorite younger/kids coming-of-age stories are sad/scary/both LOLL
maybe one day tho...

Oh also can I request some facts for rainbow weevils?
I’m not sure exactly which one you mean! Do you mean the jewel weevil, Eurhinus magnificus? That’s the most rainbow-like one I can think of. They look like this:
Photo by techgrl18
I’m afraid I don’t know much about them! They’re found in Central America (and also now Florida) and their larvae feed on grape vines or other related plant species depending on where they’re found.
If that’s not the species you meant, then you’ll have to let me know which one!

New-ish post, kinda posting this on different platforms and getting a general vibe check for some ideas I have. But basically this Halloween I want to actually do something for the TTRPG and Actualplay world (oh yeah I’m into those kinds of things). I want to try and get both players, GMs, and casual viewers alike something fun to look forward to this especially spooky season. I’ll probably talk a little more when we get closer to the actual season of scare-giving but just know that if you’re interested I’m still looking for people to join in!!
As my team and I’d first debut we’re going to try and do a two to four session actual play, which will probably be released in the weeks leading up to Halloween. We’ve had a couple good friend way in on the matter of “setting” but now I come to you fine folk. Mind you this is a horror campaign/arc so if…
Isn’t your thing, keep on a moving.
But without further ado here are a couple of the possible settings for our players, and myself, this coming espookee season…
1.) Somewhere off the coast of Florida, 1926 end of the first major housing boom in the state, a small island which calls back to the Spanish Empire, is Isla Boñyela, a small port made tourist location during the boom of disposable wealth in 1920s America. A small group of friends from the northeast tag along down for the perfect paradise vacation. Only to discover the island is much much older than anyone could have ever assumed. Whilst dealing with upstart gangsters, unnerving US soldiers, and the terrified locals they find something older than even undead conquistadors.
While I don’t have a working title, this is an old project in the running which I’ve had a few attempts at revamping over time. Its previous title was “perfect paradise vacation,” and runs on the Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition game. Anywho it’s a blast of fun with Caribbean lore, tone of anti-imperialism, and something dark lurking beneath the waves.
2.) 1950’s America, the nonexistent state of Mid-Atlantia (DMV coded) in a small suburban neighborhood where nothing goes wrong… it’s almost “All-Hallows-Eve” and little Johnny and Susie want nothing more than to trick or treat this year with all the big kids, Dad’s finally getting the big promotion at work, and Mom just got a new waffle iron! Sure everything is neat here in America. Heck you just got new neighbors! Newlyweds in fact from somewhere big and fancy, they sure aren’t like any of us in our simple town. But… and you can’t say exactly why but things are different. Or perhaps they’re all too the same? Everyday a repeat of ever other bland day that followed you over and over and over and over… and you could swear, while no one may listen to you there’s someone out there. Stalking you from outside your own home- or- perhaps, he’s just your friendly new neighbor welcoming you… to the end.
Ahhhhhh! I’ve also been working on this one for a sec and god writing it out does excite me. This is also a Call of Cthulhu game but modified/homebrewed to have a uniquely 1950s horror feel. This is definitely one of the more unique games I’ve written and am truly interested in seeing where it goes (even if we don’t choose it). This is for those who feel like isolation, fear of the unknown, fear from within, and liminal space horror comes best into play! So whadya say neighbor?
3.) The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend, or How I Learned to Love Strahd, okay so this one is a lot less horror-y and falls much more under the comedic spooky category, just so yall know. Deep in the middle of Barovia, the ancient kingdom of Vampires, meets a council of Count Strahd von Zarovich's greatest commanders and lieutenants to hunt down Strahd's greatest enemy Rudolph van Richten and his party of heroes known as "The Grape-Smashers." Strahd's lieutenants have been gifted powers greater than any mere mortals, but are these gifts enough to stop Van Richten, or even enough to stop the personal ambitions of each other? Come find out in "How I Learned to Love Strahd."
Okay, as much as this may seem like a joke suggestion it cracks me up and I feel like it would be ill-advised of me to not at least mention it. In an era where "The Curse of Strahd," is well-overdone at this point, it's worth a take from an all evil "revenge story." Obviously this will be in Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition, which, in my opinion, is really hard to use for horror, but this is a nice go-around. Come for the evil PCs, maybe a PvP battle or two, and a game of intrigue in the shadows of Barovia! All that and a buff Van Richten.
4.) Before Annapolis was ever called such it was known as Providence, a settlement of exiled Puritans in the Province of Maryland, but these early days were no easy set-up for the far-flung protestants... in the mid 1600s the English Civil War spilled out into their holdings across the waves as brother turned on brother, clan erasing clan, and something from the shores of the Old World would arrive in the New. When around every corner could be someone you've known your whole life, what's stopping them from hunting you in the depths of winter. All matters made worse when rumors of a witch begins circulating your small home.
Think "The VVitch" (2015) meets "A Field in England" (2013) meets Atun Shei's recent film "The Sudsbury Devil" (2023). It is the unexplored wilderness of early colonial Maryland, but the hateful warmongering that slowly builds that makes the horror and tension so clear. Unsure of what system we'll be using, but maybe the new Regency Cthulhu system.
5.) The Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 destroyed some 140 Acres of Baltimore proper... and in it's rubble awakened something far worse. But you and your fellow survivors are just trying to get by in the aftermath of the fire... only for something to call out, whether some strange magicks or perhaps just a sickness... but sickness doesn't even linger like this... it doesn't call to you...
Some more local history, aspiring from the actual Fire of 1904 things quickly devolve from there as rumors of a cult begin to spread along the streets of Rosland Park... a mysterious illness leaving even more dead... and the death of an eclectic professor. Definitely using the Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition for this one.
Aaaaaaaand that's it! Let me know what y'all think!

It is Two Days to Christmas and I am in Walmart.
I hate Walmart. I'm not getting into cultural or economic ground here, it's an actual physical problem for me to be in a Walmart. I'm not just hyper observant, I'm hyper perceptive and Walmart assails the senses in a way that borders on the debilitating. The is too much stuff, piled to the ceilings on rows that are engineered in a way that cuts off sight lines, there are too many colors, too many people, and the smells, they're overwhelming and conflicting. The lights are too bright. The lights are too loud. The HVAC and the coolers in frozen foods are also too loud and I can hear all of them in dissonance.
I will avoid Walmart if I can. The longest I've managed to stay out is four years. My schedule used to take me to parts of town where I had more options but my schedule changed this year and now the easiest option is to go the four miles to Walmart rather than the fifteen to somewhere less offensive to my own personal brand of crazy.
It is too days to Christmas and Walmart is three times worse than it is any other time of the year.
I only need a half a dozen things and I zip from aisle to aisle as fast as I can, skirting around shoppers who look dazed beneath the yellow green glow of the humming florescent lights. I slither past a man trying to figure out where he left his wife and rapidly start scanning at the nearest self checkout. I can feel my anxiety ramping up but it's fine, I can get out of here in a few minutes, out into the fresh air and the warm Florida sun. It's fine.
I reach into my bag for my phone, my hand closes around it as I remember that I can't use my phone at Walmart. I use Apple Pay for nearly all my groceries. The less I fumble with my wallet in a crowded store the better. But I can't use it here. I let go of my phone and dig down for my wallet.
My wallet isn't there.
I open my bag wider and stare into its depths. There is an iPhone, a tiny drawing pad with a stub of a pencil. A grape chapstick. My car keys. My sunglasses. And no wallet.
I jiggle my bag ineffectually, hoping for a Christmas miracle that will summon my wallet from the back pocket of my favorite pair of jeans. My favorite pair of jeans is hanging on the back of the bathroom door. I wore them last night to look at lights, and I put my wallet in my back pocket after I bought hot chocolate.
I could walk out of course. I want to. But there are so many people in line waiting, trying to get home to their other tasks. I flag down the nearest self checkout monitor.
"You're going to have to clear my transaction." I say "I left my wallet at home"
"Oh dear, are you sure?" she replies. "I can save the transaction and you can go get your wallet and come back, then at least you won't have to collect everything again."
"It's eight miles there and back in heavy traffic," I say with a sigh. "It would take a miracle to get back here before the frozen vegetables thawed."
"Ma'am, did you forget your wallet?"
I turn at the sound of the man's voice. He's a little older than me, an everyman type. Polo shirt shorts and docks, the standard Florida grocery shopping uniform.
"I did," I say with a sigh.
"I do that all the time," he said sympathetically. I'm about to reply that unfortunately that doesn't make me feel better.
"Would you let me buy your groceries for you?"
I freeze.
It's rare that I don't know what to say. I always have a quip or a comeback. But in that moment all I can think of is the eight mile drive, the whine of the lottery ticket machine the way the fourth florescent light from my left is flickering, the fact that I should have been back to work ten minutes ago.
It's only $35 dollars. I have $35. What I don't have is another trip to Walmart in me today.
"Hey!" the self checkout monitor says cheerfully. "You got your Christmas miracle from Santa!"
"Thank you," I say to the man. I can feel my throat closing up as he reaches over and runs his card.
"I do this all the time," he says, shaking his head. "This is the only place I can't use my phone."
"That's how I got in trouble," I admit.
He nods, knowingly. "You have a Merry Christmas!"
"Merry Christmas to you too!"
By the time I've gathered my bags he's disappeared in the crowd.
I couldn't pick him out of a lineup right now if my life depended on it. I notice everything, but he was so unassuming there wasn't a lot to notice. Just a guy, in Walmart, two days to Christmas.
Making the world a little better $35 at a time.

Your orc is ruthless. (Pt2) [pt1 here]
You remind yourself again and again as you run deeper into the forest, knowing the wrong step could lead to you falling and breaking your skull. Or rolling your ankle and getting caught by a predator. Or falling into a hole and-
You’re probably overthinking. But with everything going on, you’re justified. You got kicked out of the home you had for three years, and by the same orc who’d claimed you as his sibling. Its not every day your family just leaves in the middle of the night and you’re left alone. And when a raid on your village occurs, it’s not a raid, but orcs trading what they made for food and herbs they need.
Rico found you after your abusive ex cornered you in an alley. The asshole’s hands around your throat making it hard to breathe but before you saw black-
There was green.
Your face skids across the dirt, tired legs giving out from running for so long. The unknown darkness washing over you coldly. At about this time, you and Rico would’ve been curled up, maybe you’d braid his hair, or step on his back and relieve some of his pain. He has so many places to crack before he can relax. But now you’re blind by the night, listening to the forest sounds as your face turns red, the dirt having cut your skin lightly.
A sob leaves you, and you quickly smash a hand over your face, not wanting to draw predators if they were awake. A spashing noise makes you fear the worst until you see a fish jumping in and out of the stream nearby.
You crawl a bit closer, and use the water to wash your face. Your hands painfully stinging in the water, but not mattering as you realise were you are.
The same river you saved the orc child from. He was playing in a tree overhanging the river. You were collecting berries as Rico was lowly talking to another orc. A small crackle alerted you to the little orc, but the father of the boy was asleep against the rock as the branch snapped. A splash. And nobody was paying attention as he was caught in the branches, panicking.
The water wasnt too deep, but to the kid, it was enough to take him under without a sound of distress. Your small body leaped into the water, and the orcs were confused as they saw you dive in. But as you go under the branch and come back up, their eyes widen when one of their coughing little boys comes out with you.
(You didnt see it, but Rico got a pat on the back, and told ‘good pick, brother’.)
The memory seems so long ago. But nobody is there on the cold night. And you need to keep moving to get to some kind of town.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“RICO!” The blacksmith orc yells in his face, almost snarling as the orc sleeps against the gates.
Rico jolts awake, and he scans around him, muttering about how he ‘did it for the grapes.’
“Where is your human? Why are you out here?” The man questions, flicking his head and looking at the gate. His split lip almost a trademark to who he is.
“Argo. Good morning to you too.” Rico sighs, sitting up uncomfortably “where is the human.” He demands, not up to games. “I need small hands for the handles. They need patterns carved into them and i get mad when i have to restart.” Argo huffs, crossing his arms with a lifted lip. Not liking to admit his own faults in his forge.
“The human isnt coming back.” Rico stands, dusting himself off.
Argo stares at Rico, and shoves him to the side, connecting dots and ripping the gate open as he looks arounf their view of the forest. “What did you do!?” He turns back to the door, running a hand over something. “Argo, what did you do?” He sounds, fearful. A bit confused of what he sees.
Argo finally looks to the door, seeing deep scratches where you had been begging to be let back in, hands banging and scraping on the door in fear of abandonment. In fear of the forest. In fear. In terror.
He did what he had to, right?
