Can’t stop thinking about either Dick retiring or dying from vigilantism and it shaking Damian’s whole world.

It makes him realize what mantle he should take instead of Batman. To honor Dick, he decides to take the Nightwing mantle and make it his own. He is told by Bruce or Dick about what Nightwing is, and he finds that it has Kryptonian roots, he finds that Nightwing was one half of a duo and now he can’t get a certain person out of his head.

For his own selfish reasons, Damian asks Jon to be his Flamebird and together they could become Nightwing and Flamebird. The best crime-fighting couple to ever.

Damian & Jon getting back from their first patrol as Nightwing & Flamebird, and Damian just. Hands Jon an entire grocery bag full of skin-care supplies. “Wash your face.”

Jon tries to convince Damian this is excessive, that he can wash his face without all these products. Damian’s just like, “Sorry, I forgot that you’d been wearing greasepaint on your face almost every day for the last 5yrs. Wait… no, that was me. Do you know what that’s like, Jon? Wearing greasepaint on half your face at fifteen? Do you know what that does to your skin? I’m looking out for you. Go wash your face.”

Damian Wayne, reverse Robins, as Nightwing with bonus Flamebird!Jon. I think that unlike Dick Damian wouldn’t be inclined to train with Superman and take the name Nightwing except that Jon might become Flamebird first and when Damian is looking for a new name suggests Nightwing to go along since they’re partners.

I kept Jon’s very close to the Superman suit design because I don’t think he’d stray too far from it even if he did pick his own name. Damian, on the other hand, I used a combination of his Batman design and League of Assasin’s type clothes bc I do think he would design it to have a nod to his past and heritage.

which clois kiddo is your favorite and what is your opinion on each one of them? im talking chirs, jon (eh), and the twins.

chris is definitely my favorite out of all of them! i just loved his relationship with lois and clark so much.... his dynamic with clark in particular was so special. i always think about that scene where clark takes him up in space to look down at earth and telling him that he belonged there because that's what jonathan would say to him when he felt insecure as a kid.... wahhh.... hated that he got aged up prematurely and put into a relationship with thara, but even then i still really liked the stories he had as nightwing (and i just really loved seeing two kryptonians use the nightwing/flamebird mantles <3). HATE that they fucked his character over in modern comics... i don't know what that THING is but it's NOT my son.

i really loved the twins in the warworld saga but it's pretty clear that no one knows that to do with them now that pkj isn't on action comics anymore. it seems like williamson isn't that interested in including them in either his superman or action comics runs (other than in background appearances) which is a shame! i hope someone circles back to the red son and starchild thing that was teased before they inevitably get erased or killed off or what have you.

jon just sucks. sorry to him. i'm definitely biased against him for a multitude of reasons but i just think he's really lame and really boring. i can't help but feel so annoyed whenever i see him in literally any context. a lot of people think the biggest problem with his character is that he got aged up prematurely (and that definitely didn't help) but honestly he was boring and kind of lame even as a child. i feel like a big part of his appeal as a kid was that he was cute and had the supersons dynamic with damian, but as someone who only incidentally gives a fuck about the batfam that really doesn't appeal to me unfortunately! maybe if literally anybody had developed his relationship with kara or kon i'd care about him, but alas! sorry to any jon enjoyers that follow me, i'd like to say i'm exaggerating my dislike of him but i'm really not.

and special shoutout to the only biological clois child i care about: laura kent. she appeared in exactly one issue of the superman family (#200) and didn't even really exist, but she was cute and had an attitude so i love her :)

Link Nightwing and Flamebird

Aggggggghhhhhh this is the prompt i was so excited for!!! its my favorite one out of all of them!!

Summary: Its a masquerade ball and Jon is ready...if only he could find who he was supposed to be matching with.

i.e. damian and jon went matching to the gala but damian failed to mention who they were going as and they dance and its really cute.

A/N:

so, just a disclaimer, even tho i did do my reseach on the flamebird and nightwing thing and obviously ive read a shit ton of fics thta deal with this, im shortening it incredibly and switching up some things bc i have to fit it in the context its used for in this story   anyways this is the prompt i was most excited for bc yassss masqurade ball and i almost made it a royalty one but at the last minute did this lol

If anyone would have asked Jon, he would tell them that everything that happened that night was completely Damian’s doing. 

It started off simple enough, when the Kents had gotten an invite to the annual Wayne gala. He hadn't thought much of it, they were invited every year, his parents called to cover the event by the Planet. 

Jon had completely forgotten about it until a week before, when his brother waltzed in one night and asked him what he was going to be for the masquerade ball.

“W-What?” He’d sputtered.

“Yeah, you know the ball Tim’s family puts on? We’re going as demons and angels.” Kon had said, laying in the air with his hands behind his head in a resting position.

“They didn’t tell me that!” Jon whipped out his phone and began spamming Damian with questions until his phone started ringing.

“ Honestly, corncob, must you do this now?”

The familiar annoyed tone drawled through the phone speaker.

“Uh, yeah! What the actual heck am I supposed to go as?”

The two boys could hear the eye roll through the phone, followed by the usual “tt '' of disappointment. 

“ Calm yourself Jonathan, if it worries you so much, you can simply go matching with me. I’ll send something over in your measurements tomorrow, assuming they’re still the same from a few months ago .”

“Fine. What are we going to be?”

“ I think I'll let that be a surprise. I’ll see you next week, Jon.”

The phone clicked, signaling the end of the call. 

“You see, your boyfriend has your back.” 

Kon ruffled his hair, ignoring the angry screeches of “ He’s not my boyfriend, Connor!! You know what he is? He's a flaming piece of sherbet!”

“Still can’t swear.” He chuckled, zooming out the window. 

The fact that Damian wouldn't tell him didnt stop the flow of guesses coming from the farmboy.

He pulled the worst guesses after a while, disappointed when even the best ones had been vetoed. The sun and moon one had come close, Damian had nearly smiled when he said it so that was close at least.

When the night of the gala came, he stepped into his room only to be greeted by an intricate box tied with a ribbon on his bed.

Opening it, he found a black suit, flames running up to his elbow from the cuffs, the suit otherwise black but illuminated by the colors of the sleeves. 

The mask was built up with intricate patterns of gold, and when he put it on, it gave the picture of wearing fire itself. 

Gasping, he stumbled a little, pulling it off before placing it delicately back in the box. As he took the suit out to put on after a shower, he noticed a paper floating out from under it. He snatched it midair and noticed Damian’s elegant script.

“ You have your half, now you will have to come find me. No powers, by the way.”

Of course he couldn't just tell me what we were doing. This is fire, right? What's the opposite of fire?

He dressed, finding in pleasant surprise that the coattails of the jacket had the same flames his cuffs did, cut in an odd jagged pattern. As he spun in the mirror, they flared out, almost resembling…dragon wings?

He picked up the mask again, noticing the way it curved down on his face, resembling a snout.

An idea began to form, it was if he had all the pieces of a puzzle but couldn't yet fit them together.

His parents had insisted on pictures, marveling at the suit and mask. 

“Damian must have designed this himself. It has his mark of dramatics.” Lois traced the fire on the sleeve.

“What is he going as?” Clark asked as they got into the car that had gone to pick them up.

“He hasn't told me. I’m supposed to guess.” Jon rolled his eyes, the concept stupid to him.

Per usual, they were swarmed like celebrities themselves exiting the car, Lois and Clark mixing into the crowd as Jon stood alone at the top of the ballroom's large staircase, scanning the room of masks.

He caught Kon and Tim in the corner, both dressed in matching suits of deep red and soft white. 

Dick had a redhead on his arm, as usual(choose your ship), matching sun and moon. Jason was hidden away by the refreshments, Duke following behind him. Steph and Cass were out on the dance floor, with coordinated dresses like the queens they were. 

Tired, he gravitated towards the refreshments and fought the urge to run a hand through his slicked curls.

As he looked up, his gaze landed on a man there, sipping from a glass of champagne with an amused smirk on his face. 

His suit was a deep navy, almost black, with a thick light blue stripe making up the design. The coattails were a familiar dragon wing shape. It suddenly clicked in his mind who they were supposed to be, and without a second thought, he strode over and offered the shorter man his hand. 

“Care to dance?”

Damian’s green eyes twinkled at him as he set down his flute to take his hand. 

“Took you long enough.”

They swept out onto the dance floor, brushing by Steph and Cass, who winked at them and shot  thumbs up to Damian behind Jon’s back.

He huffed and turned back to Jon, the flaming colors of his mask making his eyes stand out like icy blue pools.

The song played on, and Jon leaned in to whisper. 

“Nightwing and Flamebird, huh?”

“Mhm. You were rather close with your sun and moon theory, and the fire and ice as well.”

They spun, transitioning into formal waltz.

“Never thought you’d go with an old kryptonian legend. They were partners, the best of the best. Soulmates. Flamebird kept Nightwing from falling too far into the dark, and nightwing vowed to be by his side forever.”

“Lovers.”

Jon nearly tripped over his own shoes. “What?”

“They were lovers, if I'm not mistaken.”

“Y-yeah, that too.” He grinned suddenly. “Dami, are you a romantic ?”

“No! The very thought is appalling, I would never stoop to such a level of meaningless gibberish.” 

Being the little shit he was, Jon listened to the skip in his c̶r̶u̶s̶h̶  best friend’s heart as he dipped him slightly, bringing his face closer. 

“I think you are.”

“So that’s the way you wanna play it, Kent?”

 Damian hitched a leg over his waist, doing a specific movement to the beat of the music and smirking at his blush. 

“Because you’re sure to lose.”

“We’ll see about that, bat boy.”

The world around them became blurry, the only thing in the room being the two of them and the rhythm of the music. 

One moved, and the other tried to top it. They wove it all together in a beautiful dance, daring each other with the way they moved, the sly grins and glints in their eyes the only words they needed.

The goal was to make each other as flustered as possible, and every gasp, blush, and breathy laugh was a prize. As the music began to slow, they spun out, back in, and into a low dip, panting heavily.

A flush of exhaustion brushed their cheeks, sweat beaded on their foreheads. For a moment, their surroundings had frozen, and there was just them. All the unspoken emotions, the words missed for years had somehow been spilled out in simple dance, and they were shook, the only thing snapping them out of it was the applause that sounded once they’d stopped dancing. 

Quickly they stumbled apart, smoothing their suits and giving a nervous bow as the gala goers clapped, having watched the whole exchange. 

Grabbing Damian’s hand, he led them through the crowd that had gathered to watch them, ending up in the hallway of the manor. 

Green eyes twinkled at him as he began trying to speak, stuttering out a long drawn confession speech he’d made somewhere around five years ago.

“For the love of- Get over here, Corncob.”

Damian tugged his shirt collar, reaching up on his toes to press his lips against the others.

The flush returned, more prominent than before. 

“I-ah…the feeling is mutual, then?” Jon squeaked, mentally slapping himself for such a stupid response. 

“Quite.” A pink color was dusting the caramel complexion of the shorter boy as well.

Grinning, he bent to place a kiss on the smaller boy’s cheek, taking his hand. “What do you say we get out of here, then?”

“I’d say yes.”

Decided to post a direct link to this piece on my blog so I have somewhere to put my updates.

So this piece was born from the idea eventually Damian would take on the Nightwing mantle and since bats, contrary to what Batman may say, don't work alone Damian has decided he is in need of a partner. Enter Jonathan Kent as Flamebird!

MY ADVENTURES WITHSUPERMAN REACTION

EPISODE 1: 

Why is child Clark wearing glasses? He has no identity to hide yet unlike in Birthright. Other than that Baby~ and the S! 

His alarm clock has a rooster on it 

He’s a bumbling, nervous klutz because of his powers not because he’s trying to hide them. Being an adorable nerdy dork is just a bonus

“I had to save a cat” The writers understood the assignment 

Clois meet cute 

Look at Babygirl trying to flirt 

Lady, you work with food, you shouldn’t put your shoes on the counter 

Clark is such a Babygirl~ eating three dozen donuts so often the bakers got him his own bib

Ok I’m still not onboard with the whole race swapping Jimmy and Perry but I will give them this they made Jimmy an oblivious conspiracy theorist (why does our alarm clock keep exploding) at least it’s a personality besides Superman fanboy and Perry’s personality is spot on 

 Every buyer or fencer disappeared, wonder why that is?

So, there’s no police or media coverage for the giant mech fight destroying the docks? And Perry has no interest at all? 

EPISODE 2: 

So, the baby sized pod grew under the fields, is it using the natural minerals in the earth? I mean it's been there for decades and nothing grew there

“I don’t think that’s a language from earth, son.” It sounds like a bunch of romance languages put together so Esperanto?

I don’t blame baby Clark for being scared that shit would be terrifying to a child

What eyewitnesses at the dock, no one else was there but you 

Jimmy trying to set up Clark and Lois together 

Jonathan feigns stomach problems to get out of dodge, so that’s where Clark gets it 

“It grew” so the spaceship is getting bigger, how big, will it take over the whole farm, the entire state of Kansas? 

“I need to find out who I am, Ma.” “I know who you are, you’re my son.”   oh my heart

So, Leslie’s tech was also Kryptonian and that means those “military” mechs were also alien in origin and that spaceship battle and giant portal opening in the sky was pretty ominous, was that Clark’s wormhole or something more sinister? And does Clark just have a connection to all Kryptonian tech since he’s presumably infused with nanites? And does he still get his powers from the sun or is it the nanites, or do the nanites just enhance it?

Amazo billboard, is that just a reference or will the android show up later? 

Clark cleans up his mess because he’s a good boy 

So, it’s not going to be a Magical Girl transformation, he can change it like normal clothes

Observations watching My Adventures with Superman Episode 2

Finally got access to Episode 2, so here we go:

- Jimmy having a YouTube channel is hilarious and fitting. The reference to Flamebird is cute, but Clark stumbling in the dark and messing up Jimmy’s stream is priceless.

- I like that Clark’s first encounter with Jor-El wasn’t pleasant for him. It contextualizes his attitude as him being afraid of his alien heritage, desperately trying to fit in after being scarred by that experience. It gives Clark more of an arc throughout the season of him coming to terms with it and embracing that heritage.

- Jor El is Big Boss, lol. I like the subtle touch that once he sees his son is terrified of him, Jor-El’s face breaks a bit and he immediately shows Clark images of the past to show he isn’t here to hurt him.

- In the same vein, I like how Lois ends up being the one to convince Clark to explore that side of him, even inadvertently. Praising his heroics, Lois showed Clark that he doesn’t have to hurt people with his powers.

- The Kents are alright, loving parents like most versions. I like how Martha is more concerned about Clark and how he feels about being an alien. Especially as she seemingly almost died from digging up that spacecraft, her reassuring Clark he’s human is lovely but also kept him from exploring his powers for years. She’s worried about the way he might change, which is rewarding when he still comes out of the ship as himself. Jonathan doesn’t do much, but he gets some funny lines and him excusing himself by acting sick is such a cute touch. Clark probably got his lame excuses from him in this version. XD

- Lois caring about Clark and offering to buy soup is nice, I just wish they toned down the ship tease tbh. Jimmy providing the pics to track down Leslie also shows him being competent, which I like.

- The magical girl transformation is AMAZIIIIIING. Superman’s the goat.

- WHY THE FUCK IS DEATHSTROKE PRETTY?!?

- Deathstroke being a governemnt agent is an interesting twist, but I don’t like him being here. I wish it was Bloodsport or another ACTUAL Superman villain. That being said, I like that the government is going to take on a villainous role in the series, if only so they could find out who the alien is.

- The fight with Livewire could have been better I’ll admit. I think Leslie was cooler as a mercenary than as a rampaging supervillain, but that’s just me. 

- Wait, PERRY screwed over Lois and Jimmy?! Why would he do that?!? Seems like an uncharateristically dick move. 

Still the good stuff, if a bit rushed. Hope to see more!

Trying to design the Reverse!Robins suits, and suddenly realizing Damian & Jon basically traded aesthetics when they became Nightwing & Flamebird.

Shadow!Damian suit: Aiming for sleek while still somewhat disguising his body outline, almost ghostly in Gotham’s dark nights. Primarily black with (dark) red fingerless gloves and red stripes going up the backs of his sleeves to “pool” into a bat in front of a gold circle, plus red laces & trim on his boots, and a couple other pops of gold (the hems of his gloves, the eyelets on his boots, and lightly decorating every one of his weapons.) Uses a hooded cowl & greasepaint on the upper half of his face to hide his identity.

Nightwing!Damian suit: Focused on practical functionality, body armor & lots of pockets make it look almost military, while still not impeding his freedom of movement. Dark blue (nearly black) with silver highlights, though he’d eventually add purple gloves with metal-capped knuckles in tribute to Steph. Hides his identity with a neck gaiter & black domino mask with white lenses. Wears their shared symbol (the House of El diamond, with a pair of feathered wings spread out over the edges) on his back in silver.

Superboy!Jon suit: Leans hard into his boyish charm, aims to be disarming by looking almost like an ordinary kid. Blue sleeveless Superman suit (slightly darker than normal) with a bright white S, worn beneath jeans, sneakers, and a plain zip-up hoodie (worn open, so the S is still visible.) As he got older and became one of the co-leaders of the Titans, the rattier jeans got traded out for dark skinny jeans, the sneakers for work boots, the undersuit got a few shades darker, he added long sleeves with fingerless gauntlets worn on top, and the hoodie mostly stayed tied around his waist until he found a civilian who would be comforted by it (the hoodie can be any color at all.)

Flamebird!Jon suit: Leans way more into his kryptonian heritage, in the “the Superman suit is inherently alien, and that’s why it fits like that and Clark can get in & out of it seemingly easily” way. Black with gold panels on the sides, gold soles on the shoes, with their shared symbol in (flame) red on the chest. Also wears red gauntlets and a red domino mask (to match Damian’s) though Jon’s mask doesn’t have lenses and he wears black greasepaint behind it (which only makes Jon look more alien, when you think about it.)

I did not do (most of) that on purpose. It was only when I realized how closely they mirrored eachother ( [black, gold, red, “otherworldly” sort of look] vs [blue, white/silver, very “grounded,” with a single pop of bright color] ) that I decided to lose the red in Jon’s Superboy design. Just... they straight-up traded aesthetics, and I did not plan that.

(For the record they didn’t either, and I’m pretty sure they don’t even notice. Damian just wanted something more functional & less reliant on a utility belt, while Jon wanted to embrace his heritage more.)

NIGHTWING PROFILES: Clark Kent

1st Nightwing Appearance: Superman #158 (1963) Other mantles: Superman, Superman Red/Blue, Superbaby, Superboy, Flying Tiger Secret identity: Clark Kent - the adoptive son of Martha and Jonathan Kent, and a reporter for the Daily Planet

ORIGINS A Kandorian scientist, Than Ol, has convinced the citizens of the Bottle City of Kandor that Clark knows how to enlarge the last remaining city of Krypton but has selfishly refused. Clark and Jimmy assume the secret identities of Nightwing and Flamebird to prove Superman's innocence and reveal the danger of resizing Kandor.

Batman and Robin serve as inspiration for the names. Clark has no powers while on Krypton soil and he’s closely working with Jimmy on this adventure. The narrator even calls them “The Dynamic Duo of Kandor”. When Clark voices his thoughts, a friend of his parents proposes the names Nightwing and Flamebird because they are native birds of Krypton.

In 2001, during the events of Return to Krypton, Nightwing and Flamebird were rewritten into legendary Heroes of Kandor who fought for justice for all living beings. Because Clark altered the universe during that story arc, it’s unclear whether the original Heroes of Kandor were still him and Jimmy or someone else.

TRIVIA

Clark is one of two Nightwings to have had different Flamebirds at his side. These Flamebirds are Jimmy Olsen and Lois Lane.

In the issue “The Fantastic Story of Superman's Sons!” (Superman (1939) #166) Jor-El II and Kal-El II team up as Nightwing and Flamebird only to be reprimanded by their father, Clark, for not upholding the spirit of their predecessors. 

Clark’s grandson, Clark Wayne, becomes a derivative of Nightwing in Superman & Batman: Generations, though he calls himself Knight-Wing. 

Superman has been in the Black and the White Lantern Corps.

The Nightwing origin Clark tells Dick has changed over the years. During Nightwing: Year One, Nightwing and Flamebird were mantles held by two legendary heroes of Kandor. In Grayson Annual #2, Nightwing and Flamebird were introduced as Kryptonian Gods.

Clark is a direct ancestor of Rao, the prime divine entity of Kryptonian religion.

According to Krypton Chronicles #3 punlished in 1981, the literal translation of Kal-El is “star child”. 

Clark has chosen to reveal his secret identity to the public several times. The status quo doesn’t tend to last long.

The popular trope ‘Identity Porn’ as we know it from superhero fandom originates from Clark’s relationship with Lois because they and Superman represent the two-body love triangle. In fact, the Golden Age has an abundance of such Identity Porn stories between the three of them.

Clark has a couple of other monikers that are connected to his Superman identity: The Man of Steel, The Man of Tomorrow, Mental-Man, and The Masked Man.

The Fortress contains an alien zoo, a giant steel diary in which Superman writes his memoirs, and a chess-playing robot. Another robot, Kelex, maintains the space.

The first newspaper Clark worked for is the Cleveland Evening News.

One of Clark’s most surprising canon love interests might be Lori Lemaris. Clark and she dated as students. She hid her mermaid identity by pretending to be wheelchair-bound and using a blanket to cover the lower half of her body.

The Bottle City of Kandor, the origin place of the legend of Nightwing and Flamebird, was a central Kryptonian city that was shrunk and collected by Brainiac shortly before Krypton exploded. It too is kept safe in the Fortress of Solitude.

Superman: The Movie (1978) introduced the S as the El family crest. Prior to it, the S simply stood for Superman. Reportedly, it was Marlon Brando's idea to have Jor-El wear the S as a family crest.

Clark's recurring villain Prankster (Oswald Loomis) was used as a Dick Grayson villain during the New 52.
