get nostalgic for disaster (or, i put griddlehark in the torment nexus setting of the bear bc it entertains me greatly) (you do not really have to have any pre-existing knowledge of the bear to understand this)

I think the best possible time travel fic would be to slingshot Harrow from the end of Harrow the Ninth back to the beginning of Gideon the Ninth. Highest hilarity potential, highest angst potential, highest pining potential
Things Harrow knows now that she didn't before:
Who Alecto was
The names of God and his lyctors
The secret of lyctorhood
That the lyctor trials are a death trap
Gideon could be easily persuaded to die for her
Gideon dying for her is the worst thing possible
She would do almost anything to prevent Gideon from dying
Gideon's sword is haunted by a very angry and oddly familiar-looking woman who bears a remarkable resemblance to Gideon
Things Harrow still doesn't know:
What Alecto is
Gideon's parentage
Jackshit about BOE
Mercy and Augustine are both traitors
Things Harrow knew then and still knows now:
Gideon—this Gideon here and now—hates her
She owes a debt of two hundred lives and a future to the Ninth
The survival of the Ninth depends on her becoming a lyctor

Listen. Pal and Cam had pretty good boundaries with Nona (OK I’m lying no they didn’t, but given the challenges of their situation, they were doing their best). And I know those two will turn nearly anything into a research project but still--if they are taking 6 pages of notes about Nona kissing the mirror or asking what she thinks is sexy, they must have had good reason to believe that it would help them to identify which amnesiac soul they were talking to.
And that in turn only makes sense if they knew that Harrow and Gideon were attracted to each other.
Like. Gideon and Harrow must have been so visibly gay for each other at Canaan House. A mutual pining so obvious that every single other person there was aware of it. There was a betting pool about when they would finally get together. Everybody participated except Silas. Teacher submitted a bet and so did 2 of the skeletons.

“Gideon the Ninth, first flower of my House,” she said hoarsely, “you are the greatest cavalier we have ever produced. You are our triumph. The best of all of us. It has been my privilege to be your necromancer.”

i have a lot of thoughts about “first flower of my house” but perhaps the one that makes me want to chew glass the most is the fact that she called gideon a flower on a planet of dead things. we trod you underfoot. you refuse to die. first flower because you are the first thing to truly live on a dying house, where everyone else is either dead or on their way out. you are young and vital and alive.

mentally rotating “first flower of my house” vs “flowers die on necromancy’s grave” vs “the two sexy flowers on the poster”
the way camilla looks at nona for “a few seconds too many” when she says the flowers are sexy. the way camilla was right there for “first flower of my house”
just thinkin about it is all

Assigning each Doctor a flower
Based purely on my opinion and vibes. I know nothing about flower language, etc, so behold the nonsensical fuckery that is about to commence (though for some it should be obvious why I chose that particular flower).
1st Doctor - Black Eyed Susan
2nd Doctor - Aster
3rd Doctor - Daffodil
4th Doctor - Kangaroo Paw
5th Doctor - Cherry Blossoms
6th Doctor - This Thing
7th Doctor - Foxglove
8th Doctor - Hollyhock
War Doctor - Pitcher Plant
9th Doctor - Rose
To be continued because I can't add more pictures....

I told my therapist about The Locked Tomb. She asked me why I thought it resonated with me so much. I told her the story is completely unique and that I love the characters. She then had the audacity to point out that the character I love the most, Gideon, is a queer woman who believes she is completely unlovable and then wondered aloud if I had any thoughts on that.
Well now I do, Carol. Thanks.
