ok but taylor kelly was significantly more integrated into the 118 and buck's life as a firefighter than tommy ever was. like i know tim said the whole thing about wanting him to be integrated but all tommy being a firefighter ever did was make him not available for key moments like the bachelor party. we never see him really talking to anyone, except in that one deleted scene where hen and karen seemed to get weird vibes. he was very much on the outskirts. like he even had dialogue about it. he was not integrated. if you want to see integrated, rewatch (or watch for the first time bc i know most tommy fans have not) s4 and 5 for the bucktaylor relationship. and while we're at it. talylor had personality. she was messy. she was four thousand times the love interest that tommy was but yall didnt care bc she wasnt a generic white man.
#yall slandered taylor kelly and for what#she was THE MOMENT#she was incredible#she was catastrophically wrong for buck but at least she was interesting about it

Having this half formed thought about how Buck will do anything to save a relationship except fight for it and Eddie will fight for ones he doesn’t even want just so he doesn’t fail at them and let the other person down.
#firefighting being the one exception for buck#he’s just waiting to be left and tries to ask for as little as possible to stave it off as long as he can#and eddie feeling like it’s his responsibility to make things work#and make it work by himself really#neither of them actually do the give and take thing with their significant others#and so imagining buck standing up to say i want this and i will have the hard conversations with you and build it with you to eddie#and eddie saying your wants and needs are not a burden#i can hold you up#we can hold each other up#ugh#buddie#thought spiral

Buck goes out to get food or restock after a particularly rigorous ""work out"" session and it just happens to be at the same time as some idiot decides to rob the place.
Buck is kneeling down because hes looking for Tommy's favorite gatorade flavor. They have all the popular flavors at eye level but if you're looking for dark red, you have to stoop down. Homophobic, and during pride month.
He hears the commotion and of course his hero complex kicks in. But he doesn't wanna spook the guy cause he knows how he looks. Massive and buff and a firefighter and everyone at this place knows him too, he lives right down the road (or maybe the drug store is one the first level of his apartment). He goes to send a quick text to Tommy, when the guy with the gun demands all their phones. Buck gets out "911" and turns on his location. He stays low to the floor but makes himself known. Gets the gun trained on himself instead of anyone else because that's just who buck is.
The robber is getting desperate and every time bucks phone pings he gets more and more jumpy.
“Whose needy ass boyfriend wont stop blowing up their phone?”
Buck raises a shaky hand. He opens his mouth to say something but before he can get it out-
The store clerk high-fives him and tells him he’s proud of him. “It was only a matter of time, man. He went through all the women of LA and he just moved on to the men.”
A chorus of “Oooh come on!” “That’s biphobic” “ew gross” “not cool” ring out among the other hostages. Buck’s cheeks are burning. The mix of positive and negative reinforcement creating chaos in his head.
“You really should consider letting us go.” He says to the man with the gun. Buck takes a risk and stands to his full height and the other man’s eyes widen. “My boyfriend is bigger than I am. He's waiting for me and we weren’t done.” He holds up a box of condoms and the gatorade and someone hoots behind him.
It’s then that the sirens start. Someone shouts instructions through a bullhorn. Buck isn't listening, he's determined to get everyone out before himself. He calmly explains that out there is one of the most fiercely protective police sergeants he's ever met.
"And her first priority is not going to be you." Buck motions his raised hand to the other people in the store and says, "let them go and I can help you."
The voice amplified by the horn sounds more desperate by the second and when did the fucking fire department get here?
The armed man send everyone out, except buck, who he now holds in front of him with the barrel of the gun tucked snugly against his spine. Buck can feel it shiver against his skin.
"I didn't want to hurt anyone."
"I- I know," Buck says. The guy cowers behind him and he curses his height because if anyone was a fantastic human shield its Evan Buckley.
There's a new voice coming through the bullhorn now and Buck groans. Its Tommy and he's telling Buck the whole teams here and he's going to be alright. He sounds desperate and scared and Buck just wants to wrap his arms around the man and tell him its going to be OK.
"The boyfriend?" the guy asks and Buck almost laughs. He lets out a shaky breath.
"Yeah, needy right?"
"Listen man, I made a mistake. I'm in a lot of trouble but I never wanted anything like this." Buck nods. "My baby is sick and I'm broke. I just needed some cash and some formula."
Buck groans. He's too nice for his own good.
"There's an exit in the back."
"What?"
"In the back room I've seen them take in deliveries that way." He can hear the guy shuffle and then stop.
"Should I hit you?"
"What?" Buck peaks over his shoulder, the guy is half way to the door at the back of the store and still he's completely shielded by Buck's body. Seriously he should have been a bodyguard or something.
"I mean...it'll look like you just let me go?"
"This isn't a movie? I- I'm literally being held hostage, dude."
"Right." He turns away from Buck and then stops again. Buck is holding his breath. "Thanks man. I know this is fucked up and you didn't have to help me. You're a good guy."
Then he's gone.
Buck's not sure how to react. He did it, he saved everyone and himself and oddly the whole thing feels like a dream. Unreal. He walks slowly to the door of the shop and exits with his hands still in the air. Eddie is the first to hug him, barreling right into him and smacking his back into the glass of the window. He's checking over Buck for injuries and squinting inside the store and he seems confused.
"Where'd he go?"
Buck shrugs. "Went to the back and never came out."
Athena is next, she too gives him a once over, lets him know she can take his statement tomorrow and motions to the rest of the crew. They give him one resounding bone crushing group hug. Buck's warm and smiley but he still feels not here.
Finally, Tommy ambles out from behind the police car. He's thrown on a hoodie and sweats and he's vibrating on the balls of his feet. Buck see's the same expression on his face that must be reflected on Buck's. He reaches out to Tommy and Tommy clutches at him. The hug starts off timid until Buck hears a few pops in his back and Tommy is taking a deep breath in at his temple.
The world falls back into place like they've hit the bottom of a drop of an amusement park ride. His feet feel solidly on the ground and his stomach finally drops. His knees nearly buckle. At some point Buck had known he wasn't in danger, but it didn't feel that way. It felt like he was never going to talk to his family again, he would never see Hen or Eddie or Bobby...or Tommy. There is so much he wants to say but his breath is shaky and his hands won't release Tommy's shoulders.
"Do you want to be alone?" Tommy asks. Because of course he asks. No Buck has never wanted to be alone less. He feels like if he lets go of the man in his arms he's going to float into the atmosphere and dissipate. Like he's only tethered here by Tommy's hands.
"No," Buck says. He takes a grounding breath in, his chest bumping Tommy's. "I- I want to go home."

I am honestly shocked (as a pretty unbiased party) at the GA’s reaction to the bucktommy breakup. I’d hedge a bet that Tim and co are too! I think they knew that bucktommy was fairly well received (by the general audience and not the loud minority) but i don’t think that they realised those same people who were so flippant about Buck’s prior love interests would keep caring to the extent they have. That people would care enough to express their disappointment in a rational manner - not resorting to name calling etc etc. I do wonder where they plan to go from here (or if they even have a plan) because the idea that Buck jumps back to sleeping around now or diving head first into another relationship eight seasons in…. is jarring and i do wonder how the GA will react to that after this week
I think you’ve brought up an important point re: the reaction to prior love interests, and the funny thing is Tim and his staff only have themselves to blame.
Everyone Buck has been with before Tommy has been a woman. Buck was, for all intents and purposes, perceived as straight. It’s not that difficult to get an audience on board with a hetero relationship, right?
Except the audience was able to bounce back from every breakup because the effort wasn’t there. In fact, I’d bet the relationship the audience cared about most was BuckAbby, but they can’t do anything about Connie only signing for the one season. (And just to cover all my bases, sure, you could say that "effort" was made with BuckTaylor given how much screen time they had, but the audience also had the entire half of 5B to prepare for a break up after the BuckLucy kissing scene!) Now here comes Tommy. He already has established relationships with members of the 118, relationships that have nothing to do with Buck. His first episode in s7 showed him helping the 118 not only rescue Bathena, but going behind people's backs to do it so nobody got in trouble. Episode four establishes that he has also made a friend in Eddie, which is a first for these love interests! If Tommy and Eddie can get along, this time might be different, right? After the kiss in Buck's loft, which the GA obviously didn't hate, they have a conversation after a disastrous date, about wanting to see where things go. Buck was happy. People were gonna like that. The wedding episode is, IMO, where Tim started to slip up. We didn't just see Buck bringing Tommy as his plus-one and introducing him to everybody. We saw Tommy show up to the hospital still in his firefighter gear after an emergency. We saw that he wanted to keep his promise to Buck to be there for the wedding, to show that he, too, was serious about seeing where the relationship could go. We saw Buck kiss him. In public. No shame, no regrets. We also saw their dinner scene in the finale. Not interrupted by Eddie's drama. We saw Tommy still being important enough to the story in 8x01 to be present for Christopher's "birthday party". And then we saw everything that came with 8x05. The fandom can take its victory lap and say "the writing was on the wall", but the general audience? All they saw were two men slowly (possibly) falling in love. Tommy was never actually portrayed as the wrong partner in canon. In fact, he was everything the previous weren't. Every single thing this fandom used as an excuse for why these relationships wouldn't work? Tommy was the anomaly. First responder? Check. Friendly with Eddie? Check. Forms some sort of relationship with Chris? Check. Makes Buck a priority? Check. Isn't sidelined for Buddie scenes? Check. Yep, maybe Tim really did do all those things so that when the breakup actually happened it would leave an impact. But how fucking obtuse do you (Tim) have to be to not realize just how important seeing Buck in a happy, healthy relationship - what little we got of it! - was going to be for the audience? Especially when much of that audience has stuck with you through six seasons of the same old shit? How can you be unprepared for the backlash when YOU are the reason people care this much in the first place?

prompt: something where buck and tommy argue over gerrard. like, buck doesn't know how tommy could have been so passive, and tommy's like way over that version of himself or something. I know a lot of people don't want that to happen in the show, and I get it, but I'd like a fic version!
“I have never, in all my life, dealt with someone so- so... so evil!” Buck was pacing back and forth in Tommy's living room, just as he'd been for the last half hour since he arrived.
“Really, Evan? Never?”
“You don't understand, Tommy. Gerrard is, it's like he's targeting me, but not in a bad way.”
“There's a good way to be targeted?” Tommy asked from his spot on the couch.
Buck sighed, placing his hands on his hips. “It's like he- he wants us to be buddies, ya know? He thinks I'll be his puppy or something. H- He's treating everyone else like garbage except for me and it makes me feel really weird. He took me golfing, Tommy. Golfing.”
“You fit his ideal firefighter, Babe. He needs minions, he's gonna latch onto you.”
“What do you mean his ideal firefighter? What even is that?”
“White, strong, straight,” Tommy replied simply.
Buck raised an eyebrow. “What we did yesterday morning was very not straight.”
“Yeah, but does he know that?”
“Does he know what we did yesterday morning?”
Tommy tilted his head. “Evan.”
Finally, Buck plopped down on the couch, staring toward the blank TV. “I figured he knew after we went to the medal ceremony together.”
“It's not like we made out in front of the crowd. For all he knows, we're friends.”
Buck was silent for a moment. “I've never really talked about my personal life with him,” he admitted. “Didn't really want to. N- Not because I'm ashamed or anything,” he added quickly, looking at Tommy with wide eyes. “I'm not. I promise, I- I'm not ashamed.”
“I know, Evan.” Tommy reached over and gave Buck's hand a squeeze. “You're a very good ally.”
He glared at Tommy. “I'll never live that down, will I?”
“Nope.”
Buck grew quiet again, and Tommy was beginning to think the conversation was over.
Then Buck, barely above a whisper, said, “I don't want him to think we're just friends.”
“It's fine if he does,” Tommy replied. “I don't mind. Probably best that way, honestly.”
Buck's eyebrows furrowed. He turned more toward Tommy, his back leaning against the armrest. “What do you mean?”
Tommy contemplated his words before speaking. “Listen, I'm not telling you to be buddy-buddy with the guy. I definitely do not recommend that. I'm also not saying to turn a blind eye to all the crap he pulls. But, why make it harder on yourself?”
“Because it's living a lie, Tommy.”
“It's not lying if you just don't mention it.”
Buck huffed out a breath. “You want me to hide who I am? I distinctly remember that being the reason our first date ended so abruptly.”
Tommy let out a deep breath. “I'm not saying to hide, Evan. And that's not exactly the reason our date ended, you know that. I'm saying if there's been no reason to bring it up so far, why bring it up now? What he thinks about you doesn't matter.”
“It matters to me.”
Tommy squeezed his eyes shut, trying to rid himself of the growing frustration. “So, what? You wanna walk into Gerrard's office and say 'Hey, I'm bisexual by the way. Also, I'm dating that Tommy guy you worked with years ago. You know, the one you made fun of when you saw him at the medal ceremony?' You really think that's the best thing to do?”
“It's better than being his puppet like y-” Buck cut himself off abruptly.
“Like me?” Tommy finished. “That's what you were gonna say, isn't it?”
“Tommy, I-”
“It's true,” he continued with a shrug. “I was his puppet. I did whatever he wanted me to do and I didn't question it. Even after he was going to let me die in that explosion, I still stuck by his side. I don't deny that part of my life, Evan.”
“I wasn't trying t-”
“You know I apologized for all of that well over a decade ago, right? I feel like I remember us talking about that.”
“W- We did.”
“And I would never want or expect you to be who I was. You know that?”
“I know, Tommy, I-”
“And I'd never ask you to hide yourself, because I did that too and-”
“If you'd let me finish a damn sentence,” Buck snapped.
Tommy stopped, stared at Buck with pursed lips. A silent go ahead.
“I don't- I didn't. I... Ugh, Tommy!”
A pause, then. “That's what you needed to let out?”
“God, you're being so annoying right now!” Buck could feel his body getting hot.
“No, I'm trying to stop you from getting needlessly harassed at work.”
“By essentially cutting off a part of myself every time I'm there!”
“Evan, if your sexuality hasn't come up by now I don't see a reason why it ever would! It's not cutting off a part of yourself, it's just existing!”
“But I- I'm getting special treatment because he doesn't think that part exists,” Buck tried to explain. “I don't want to be his right hand man, Tommy. That might've worked for you but it doesn't work for me.” The words came out harsher than he intended. He knew it was a low blow to bring up something from so long ago, something long dead and buried. But Tommy had made him upset, and he needed to make Tommy upset too.
Except Tommy didn't get upset. He got quiet.
Somehow, that was worse.
A tension so thick you could cut it with a knife filled the air.
After what felt like an eternity, Tommy stood, letting out a sigh. “I'll be back,” he said, beginning to walk out of the living room.
“What- Where are you going?” Buck nearly shot out of his seat. “Are you leaving?”
Tommy turned back to him. “First of all, my house,” he said, motioning around the room. “Second, I'm going into the kitchen to get a drink.”
“Well, I- do you want me to leave?”
“I didn't say that, Evan. I mean, I'm not gonna block the exit if you wanna go, but I prefer to finish the arguments I get involved in.”
Buck sat back down. “Then I'm staying.”
“Good. You want water or something?”
Buck folded his arms over his chest. “With ice.”
“Okay.”
A couple of minutes later, Tommy returned with two cups of water in his hand. He held Buck's out to him, Buck taking it with a low, “Thank you.”
“Mhm.” They both took a few sips, then Buck stared down at the ice in his cup until Tommy started talking again. “You're not wrong,” he said. “Being his right hand man did work for me for a long time. It's not something I'm proud of, and I don't make excuses for it, but I also don't really appreciate it being thrown up in my face.”
Buck set his glass on the coffee table. “That wasn't fair of me, I- I know that. I was just angry. I'm sorry.”
“I probably should have tried explaining myself a bit better,” Tommy replied. “I'm sorry too.” He set his own cup down, then held his arm out toward Buck. “Will you come here?”
Buck didn't hesitate to move into Tommy's space. He curled up next to him, resting his head on Tommy's chest while Tommy wrapped him in his arms. “I can't help wanting to protect you, Evan,” Tommy said, pressing a kiss to Buck's head. “I know you don't need it, and I know it's selfish, but the idea of you getting harassed by that man for any reason, it- it scares me. I have,” he let out a humorless laugh, “I have never been as brave as you. I still feel nauseous every time I see the guy. But I never want you to feel like I want you to hide yourself, or that I want you to be like me. That's not what I meant.”
Buck ran his hand slowly up and down Tommy's chest. “I know. I- I get it. I've never dealt with a Gerrard before, not directly. Didn't think I'd ever have to.”
Tommy hummed. He ran his fingers through Buck's hair. “I will back whatever decision you make,” he assured him. “Whether you tell him or you don't, I am right beside you. I never want you to think I'm not.”
Buck propped himself up enough to be able to look at Tommy. “I know you are,” he replied, bringing a hand to Tommy's face. He stroked his thumb along Tommy's cheek, then leaned up for a kiss. “That's why I love you.”
Tommy sucked in a breath. His heart began to race. They'd never said those words before. Honestly, Tommy had stopped himself a few times, figuring it was way too soon.
But, as always, Evan burst through every door Tommy had locked up in his mind.
“I love you too, Evan,” he replied, and he hoped Evan could feel just how much he meant those words.
But, in case he couldn't, Tommy pulled him in for another, deeper kiss. Holding him close and tight while he wished they could stay right here in this moment for the rest of their lives.
When they finally separated for some air, Buck sat up straighter. “I'm going to tell him,” he said without an ounce of fear or hesitation. “Maybe not the way you suggested, but I... I want him to know I'm yours, and your mine, and screw whatever he has to say about it.”
And God, if Tommy thought he couldn't love this man anymore than he already did, there went Evan proving him wrong.
He nodded. “Okay.” He brought Buck's hand to his lips, pressed a kiss against his knuckles. “I'm with you. I love you.”
Buck smiled, wrapping himself up in Tommy once again. “I love you more.”

I was wondering if I can request a buck X reader maybe a own a dog together maybe the dog loves the reader more then buck and buck is losing it because the buck will do anything to be with the reader 😭but the dog is is like (No that my mom stay away) and it’s kinda like they going to war with each other 😭😭and reader is like ) umm it’s a dog buck)
Thank you!❤️💐
ATTENTION THIEF — E.BUCKLEY
it was buck’s idea to rescue a dog, but it was you it’d gotten attached to. buck wasn’t all to happy with this new ‘arrangement’.
evan buckley x fem!reader | 1.8k | fluff | masterlist.
Buck had never thought he'd be jealous of a dog. Not in a million years. He was Evan Buckley, firefighter extraordinaire, lifesaver, and—he liked to think—irresistible to anyone he set his sights on. But here he was, locked in a silent, brutal war with a four-legged furball over the love of his life—you.
It had started out sweet. The two of you had decided to rescue a dog together, a 7 year old goofy Golden Retriever named Max. You'd always wanted a dog, and Buck thought it would be a fun addition to your life, something the two of you could share.
Except Max had other plans.
At first, Buck didn’t notice. Max seemed friendly enough, licking Buck’s face the day you brought him home and wagging his tail enthusiastically whenever Buck walked into the room. But things quickly changed. Slowly, subtly, Max began staking his claim—on you.
It was small things at first. Max would always sit right by your feet, leaning into you, while Buck got left with empty space. When Buck tried to get some cuddle time on the couch, Max would leap in between, forcing Buck to the side, his big golden head resting contentedly in your lap.
"Aw, Buck, look how cute he is!" you'd coo, scratching Max behind the ears. Buck would try to smile, but inside, he felt a little pang of irritation. Cute? Sure. But there was something territorial in the way Max looked at him, as if saying, Back off, buddy. She's mine.
Still, Buck tried to shake it off. After all, it was just a dog.
But then things escalated.
One morning, Buck had woken up early, hoping to surprise you with breakfast in bed. He cooked your favorite, carefully arranging everything on a tray. As he made his way to the bedroom, he imagined your face lighting up with gratitude and love.
But when he got to the top of the stairs, he froze. There you were, still asleep, but you weren’t alone. Max was curled up beside you, his head resting on your stomach, looking perfectly at ease in Buck's spot. Worse, when Buck tiptoed closer, Max cracked open one eye, stared at him, and then let out a low grumble.
"Really?" Buck whispered in disbelief, raising an eyebrow. "Really?"
Max's grumble only got louder, as if to say, Don’t even think about it.
Buck blinked, looking from Max to you, still peacefully unaware of the brewing battle beside you. He sighed, backing away with the tray, defeated.
—
It only got worse from there. Any time Buck tried to show you affection, Max would be there, inserting himself into the moment. Trying to hold hands? Max would shove his nose between you. Trying to kiss you? Max would bark until the two of you had to laugh and pull apart.
You thought it was adorable.
Buck thought it was sabotage.
"Am I seriously competing with the dog?" Buck asked one night as he flopped onto the couch, rubbing his temples.
You glanced up from your book, a smile playing on your lips. "Buck, he’s a dog."
"Yeah, but look at him!" Buck gestured wildly to Max, who was sitting by your side, looking smug. "He’s doing it on purpose. He’s trying to steal you from me!"
You chuckled and set your book down, moving to sit beside Buck. "I think you're being a little dramatic."
"Dramatic?" Buck huffed. "You didn't see the way he growled at me this morning! I tried to sit next to you in bed, and he nearly bit me!"
Max yawned innocently, stretching out on the floor as if he hadn’t a care in the world.
"He's protective, Buck. He loves me."
"I love you!" Buck shot back, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "And I can’t even get a minute alone with you without him getting in the way."
You gave him a sympathetic smile and leaned in to kiss his cheek. "You know I love you too, right?"
Before Buck could respond, Max was on his feet, barking loudly and nudging his way between you two as if sensing the affection and wanting to claim it for himself.
"See?!" Buck threw his hands up in exasperation. "This is what I’m talking about!"
"Alright, alright," you laughed, pulling Max back gently. "Max, down." He obeyed but continued to stare at Buck, as if daring him to make another move.
Buck narrowed his eyes at the dog. "It's on, buddy."
—
From that moment, Buck became determined to win this war. He’d do anything to reclaim his rightful spot as your number one.
He tried spoiling Max with treats, thinking he could bribe him into submission. But Max would take the treats, then immediately return to you, acting as if Buck hadn’t just handed him a piece of bacon.
He tried taking Max out for extra-long walks, hoping to tire him out so he’d leave you alone. But no matter how long the walk, Max always seemed to have boundless energy when it came to staying by your side.
One evening, Buck tried sitting on the couch with you, waiting until Max was in another room before sneaking in for some cuddle time.
The moment you leaned into Buck’s arms, Max barreled into the room like a furry missile, leaping onto the couch and wedging himself between you two with a satisfied huff.
"Are you kidding me?!" Buck groaned, glaring at the dog. "I can't take this anymore."
You just laughed, patting Max on the head. "Come on, Buck. You can share."
"Share?" Buck looked at you like you'd lost your mind. "He's trying to kick me out of my own relationship!"
You leaned over and kissed Buck’s temple. "Well, I have enough love for both of you."
Buck grumbled, eyeing Max, who was currently wagging his tail, victorious.
"Fine," Buck muttered, leaning back against the couch with an exaggerated sigh. "But this isn’t over."
Max wagged his tail harder, as if agreeing.
And so the battle continued—Buck versus Max, two stubborn competitors vying for your attention.
—
One Saturday morning, you woke up to the sound of a vacuum whirring outside the underneath the loft bedroom of Buck’s apartment. You blinked, confused, and glanced over to find Max still snuggled up beside you, blissfully unaware of whatever Buck was up to. Curious, you slipped out of bed and padded down the stairs.
In the living room, you found Buck in full cleaning mode—vacuuming, dusting, and even scrubbing the windows. His face was set in a determined expression, and he looked up as you entered, flashing you a grin.
"Morning, babe! Just thought I'd get a head start on the chores," he said cheerily, though the way he kept glancing at Max made you suspicious.
You raised an eyebrow, crossing your arms. "Buck, you never clean this early. What’s going on?"
Buck shrugged, a little too casually. "Nothing, just... you know, being helpful. Thought maybe you'd appreciate some undistracted time together after this."
Just as you were about to respond, Max trotted into the room, stretching lazily before sitting right at your feet. Buck’s smile faltered, but he recovered quickly.
"Great timing, buddy!" Buck said, grabbing a lint roller from the counter. "You’re getting a makeover today."
Max tilted his head in confusion, but before he could react, Buck started running the lint roller over his golden fur, collecting loose hairs like a man on a mission.
"Buck, what are you—"
"I read online that dogs love being groomed," Buck explained with feigned innocence, holding up the roller like it was some prized weapon. "I’m bonding with him. You know, man to dog."
Max blinked up at you, clearly unimpressed, and let out a quiet whine.
You stifled a laugh. "I think he’s fine, Buck. You don’t have to—"
"Nah, he needs this. I’m sure he’ll thank me later.”
Buck was relentless, following Max around with the lint roller, determined to prove his point. But Max, who had started out merely confused, now seemed outright annoyed. He’d walk to you, Buck would follow. He’d lay down, and Buck would be right there, rolling away at his fur.
Finally, Max had enough. With a grumpy huff, he darted out of the room and curled up in his bed, out of Buck's reach.
Buck watched him go, then turned to you with an accomplished grin. "See? Problem solved."
"Uh-huh," you said, shaking your head with an amused smile. "You realize this is a little ridiculous, right?"
Buck dropped the lint roller and flopped onto the couch dramatically. "What do you expect me to do? He's always there! I can’t get five minutes alone with you anymore."
You walked over to stand between his legs, gently running a hand through his hair. "You don’t need to fight him for my attention, you know. You’re still my number one, Buck."
He gave you a skeptical look. "Tell that to Max."
You leaned down to kiss him softly. "I think you’re forgetting how much I love you."
Buck’s expression softened as he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you closer. "I just miss having you all to myself sometimes."
Before you could respond, there was a soft bark from the hallway. You both turned to see Max peeking around the corner, watching the two of you with a curious tilt of his head.
"Don’t even think about it," Buck warned, holding you a little tighter.
Max, clearly unbothered by the threat, padded over to the couch, hopped up, and wedged himself between you and Buck with expert precision. Buck groaned loudly, throwing his head back against the cushions.
"You’ve got to be kidding me."
You burst out laughing, scratching Max behind the ears as he settled in. "Guess we’ll just have to get used to being a package deal," you teased, nudging Buck with your elbow.
Buck shook his head, but there was a hint of a smile playing at the corner of his mouth. "This isn’t over, Max."
Max licked Buck’s cheek, wagging his tail in response, as if to say, Bring it on.

Ohhhh 42 for buddie, please? 👀
“Is this okay?”
----
It’s all going great, right up until Buck realizes he’s crying.
“Hey,” Eddie says, his hand on the side of Buck’s face, thumb brushing through the wetness on his cheek. “Hey, hey, what is it?”
He’s stopped moving, and Buck hates that. Buck arches his back, wants to press his skin to Eddie’s, wants to get him closer and deeper, until he has no more thoughts in his own head. “Please,” he says. He digs his fingers into Eddie’s hips. “Please.”
“Is this okay?” Eddie asked a few minutes ago, one of his arms sliding under Buck’s shoulders, so close they were almost nose to nose, close enough Buck could see the flecks of gold in his eyes. They’ve never done it like this before. It’s always been hands and mouths, one memorable time where Eddie let Buck climb into his lap and roll his hips until they came shuddering and gasping together. They haven’t talked about it, except right before the first time, when Eddie asked, “What’s it like?” and Buck said, “I don’t know how to describe it,” and Eddie said, “You could show me.”
That was weeks ago, and Buck has been—fine, mostly. As long as he doesn’t think about it. As long as he doesn’t acknowledge that he’s being Buck 1.0 again, seven years of character growth down the drain. Whenever it starts to ache too badly, he gets his hands on Eddie and pretends. Because they’re friends and partners and—Buck doesn’t have words for the rest, but they can fuck, too, why not? Buck can suck on his tongue and suck on his cock and suck bruises into his thighs that will still be there once Buck is back home in his own bed, curled up, hugging a pillow, unable to sleep.
But then Eddie had the nerve to ask, “Is this okay?” and now Buck is crying.
“Buck,” Eddie says, but Buck squeezes his eyes shut, shaking his head.
“No, no, I’m fine.” He pulls on Eddie’s waist like he can make him move that way, like Eddie isn’t rigid as steel when he wants to be. “Keep going.”
“You’re crying.”
Eddie withdraws from him completely, and that’s—Buck sobs, can’t help it, the sound high and shuddering. He tries to twitch away from Eddie’s fingers on his face, but Eddie persists, pulling and petting until Buck flutters his eyes open and looks at him again.
“Did I hurt you?” he asks, but it’s clear he knows he didn’t. He’s a firefighter and a medic; he knows when someone’s physically injured. And he knows Buck better than anyone. Just like Buck knows him.
“No,” Buck says. He runs his hand up Eddie’s arm, soft skin and the flexed curve of his bicep, and wonders how he’ll be able to live not touching him like this anymore. “I told you I’m fine.”
“You’re not.” Eddie uses his palm this time, swiping away moisture that’s leaked down toward his jaw. “Tell me what I’m doing wrong.”
“Nothing. Nothing.” Because Eddie is perfect, of course he is, and here Buck is ruining his first time, his chance to experiment. Ruining his confidence for the next guy who’ll be in this bed, after Buck. After— “You’re perfect, Eddie, I swear.” He pushes this time, pushes at Eddie’s shoulder, but it’s just as ineffective as before. “Let’s—can we—”
“Buck,” Eddie says. He props his elbows alongside Buck’s shoulders, takes his face in his hands. The expression on his face is devastating, concern bleeding into anguish. “Did you not want…?”
“No,” Buck says. “No, it’s not that. I want too much. I want…” He doesn’t even know how to say it, so he just says, “Eddie,” low and pleading.
He expects Eddie to roll away, the warm weight pinning Buck to the bed disappearing, cold rushing in. He expects to hear that this was a mistake, that Buck wrecked this because he couldn’t be content with what he had.
But Eddie doesn’t move. Instead, his fingers slip up into Buck’s hair, and the corner of his mouth lifts, his gaze going soft and molten. “We’re idiots, I think,” he says, then brushes his lips across Buck’s jaw where he surely tastes like salt. “You could never want too much.” He kisses Buck’s mouth, speaks the next words right against his lips. “Want to give you everything.”
Buck’s breath hitches on another sob. “Eddie,” he says desperately, and this time when he pulls at Eddie’s hips, it works. Eddie reaches between them, lines himself up, and slides back inside, back where he belongs. Buck wraps his arms around Eddie’s neck, his legs hooked around his waist to keep him close, get him deeper, keep him there. That he could actually get to have this seems impossible. Impossible that Eddie could want what he wants.
“I love you,” Eddie says. He rocks his hips, just slightly, making Buck cry out. “God, I love you.”
It’s almost too much to take. Buck tries to get Eddie closer, wants to touch him everywhere, opens his mouth for Eddie’s tongue and digs his fingers into Eddie’s shoulder and breathes deep, feels his and Eddie’s chests expand together. Eddie can barely move, but it’s good, perfect, just holding him inside like this. Buck never wants it to end.
“Buck,” Eddie says, and this time he’s the one pleading, but Buck murmurs, “Wait,” and, “Like this,” and, “Is this okay?”
Eddie drops his head to Buck’s shoulder and groans, but he pushes in deep and goes still, just like Buck asked. “Anything,” he says. “Anything you want.”
“I love you,” Buck sighs, and he holds on tight.

// Masterlist | Evan Buckley Masterlist //
Some people walk past it and ignore it; some people have a look at it. One cares, the other doesn’t. And then there is your boyfriend, Evan Buckley. He cares a lot when it comes to clipboards, especially when he can walk around with one, with checklists, or with just some tasks he can give to others.
Evan loves to command others around, especially his friends and family — the 118. But not everyone loves Buck with a clipboard, and you never wondered why because the moment he has a clipboard in his hands, he is an idiot.
A while ago, Chimney and Hen tried to hide all the clipboards in the station — but luckily for Buck, he had one in his locker. The smile on his face was huge and adorable as he lifted the board and showed it around. “Look at that! You think you can hide them? I have more of them,” he shouted and winked at you before starting to check if everyone was doing their work.
Even Eddie and Ravi tried to convince Bobby that he should never — NEVER! — give a clipboard to Buck or else they would be in so much trouble while Bobby has his day free. It’s not that Bobby would choose Buck to be the leader, but the young man learned that the moment he has a clipboard in his hands, everyone is doing what he says — everyone but you.
You’re the exception when it comes to Buck and his behavior. And you love the effect you have on him. If you walk into a room and he shouts around some jokes, he is immediately quiet and stares at you, following every small movement you make with a soft smile on his face. He would love to wrap his arms around your waist and pull you as close as possible, but he doesn’t dare to do so — he doesn’t even dare to ask you out on a date.
Buck loves to stare at you, study you, or just hear you talking while you stand with your back toward him and talk to Hen about things. Everyone loves you. The moment you walked into the station to introduce yourself, they adored you. You’re always nice, sweet, and loving. And you’re the only one who can stop Evan Buckley from being a clipboard idiot.
Also today, he is walking around with his clipboard in his hands, smirking at everyone while commanding them to do things. “No! No! You have to order them the other way around,” he groans and points at the bandage Hen is ordering right now.
“Buck! You can be annoyed with that clipboard. Put it away and help us,” she says, rolling her eyes but doing as she is told. No one wants to argue with Clipboard Buck.
The one time Eddie tried to argue, it ended with them giving Buck the name “clipboard idiot” whenever he has a clipboard. Evan isn’t good with arguments, but he can continue that as long as he wants until everyone is annoyed — even Eddie, who is his best friend and used to Buck being Buck. But the clipboard idiot? Eddie will probably never be used to that man.
“Evan Buckley!” You shout through the station, getting everyone’s attention, especially Bucks, who almost drops the clipboard. Chimney is already almost lying underneath Buck on the floor to grasp the clipboard when it falls, but the young man holds it tightly while turning his head to look at you.
“Y-yes?” He asks, smirking softly, but he knows that the clipboard in his hands doesn’t help him. His ocean blue eyes meet yours, and his knees feel suddenly so weak that he thinks he will drop to them every second.
“I thought Bobby said you should stop being the ‘clipboard idiot’,” you say, raising an eyebrow. It’s not exactly what he said, because Bobby wouldn’t call Buck an idiot — even though he thinks that when it comes to the clipboard idiot. But Bobby made it clear that when he has his day off, Hen will be the captain, and Buck isn’t allowed to touch a clipboard.
“I- uhm. I— Did he really call me a clipboard idiot?” A soft blush creeps up his cheeks.
“No, he didn’t. But we all know that you’re such an idiot when you get a fucking clipboard in your hands. And you know that I’m going to publish that video when you command everyone around; Bobby already allowed it,” you say with a smirk. Bobby allowed you to use whatever it needed to get the clipboard out of Buck's hands, and you know that this video would make him hand you the clipboard in no time.
It’s actually a pretty funny and cute video, but he was accidentally on drugs, like the rest of the station. And Buck being on drugs is the most hilarious thing ever.
Buck and Eddie stand in front of a few little girls in costumes. It’s a party where a woman was hit with a shoe, which is now stuck to her cheek. However, Buck and Eddie just stare at these girls, giggling, while the girls look at the two big firefighters.
“These beauty queens shrink,” Buck mumbles quietly. He doesn’t want to scare the queens away. Eddie nods his head, agreeing with Buck, but the blond-haired man already has another reason why these queens look so much smaller than themselves. “And we’re certainly giants.”
Chimney looks around, waiting for them to help him with the woman, but Buck and Eddie just stare at the girls. Bucks mouth is dropped open, while Eddie just studies them.
When Athena walks toward them to get the woman who threw the shoe out of the room, she looks with narrowed eyes at the firefighter in front of him.
“Hi, Athena,” Buck says, excited. “These are— like the tiniest ladies I’ve ever seen. Teeny tiny,” Buck explains, showing with his fingers that he means really, really small, and then he giggles once again. “They are so tiny, teeny tiny queens.”
And you filmed it all, while Eddie and Hen weren’t too weird at first. Buck was really hilarious, and even though you would never publish it, it’s a good way to get the clipboard from him.
“So gimme the clipboard, and we’re good,” you say, with a soft smile. Buck hesitates a moment, considering if he should ask you out or not.
“Get a room! You two are so obviously in love that you don't even notice it,” Chiney says, shaking his head while he laughs. Yours and Bucks heads turn toward your friend, your eyes widen, and your mouth drops open.
Is it really that obvious that you’re in love with Buck? And even more important, how can he know that about Buck?
“You really didn’t notice that?” Hen asks, earning a shake of your head. Even Buck is shaking his head, looking with wide eyes at Hen now. “Clipboard Buck is only nice when you’re around, and you’re comfortable enough to tell him that he is an idiot and has to give you the clipboard. Of course, you two are in love. Are you two thinking we don’t notice the smiles and gazes the two of you share? You should definitely get a room before you undress one another here.”
You blush immediately, turning your head to Buck to hide not only your smile but also your red cheeks. He always wraps his arms around you and lets you hide your face in his broad chest when you need a hug, so maybe he will do it this time too?
Buck grins, opening his arms for you to walk closer and let him wrap his strong arms around you. Everyone chuckles at you, your face pressed into Buck's chest and his arms holding you close while he rests his chin on your head.
“Do you want to go out with me?” He asks quietly, so no one will understand, but everyone knows what he asks, so suddenly it’s quiet; everyone is waiting for your answer. Will you?
“Yes, I would love to,” you giggle, looking up at him to meet his ocean blue eyes filled with love and admire the soft smile on his lips. Hen and Eddie are the first to cheer — because you and Buck finally go on a date together and because they bet that the two of you needed your friends to tell you that you’re in love with one another — so they aren’t just happy for you but also because they get some money for themselves.
“But now! Put the clipboard away and hear what the captain says,” Hen says, laughing and getting up from where she is sitting and ordering the bandage. “Do you work, Buckley, and help us clean the cars!”

Fic Idea
Post 8x05
Bobby's acting strangely—not overtly, but just enough that everyone is side-eyeing each other. Buck decides to hang back after his shift one morning and catches Bobby still in his office. He asks him what's up, and Bobby admits that even though Gerrard is gone, that doesn't mean the budget cuts also went away. The good news is that with union pushback, instead of firing someone, they've agreed to rotating month-long furloughs, effective Nov 1st.
Buck immediately volunteers for A shift. He'll do Nov and Dec. Bobby says he can't let Buck sacrifice that much of his paycheck. Buck tells him he's got enough stocked away for a couple of months and that he wants to do this. It might even be good for him.
The first month is really good. Tommy works 48/96, so they get four full days off together and it's amazing. They had a mini vacation in Palm Springs where they went stargazing, hung out by the pool, and spent a day in Joshua Tree.
Buck gets in a lot of reading and knocks down his sizable tbr. He fills in as a sitter for Jee-Yun and enjoys the hell out of spending time with his niece (never mind her deep disappoint on the days Tommy isn't there too). He also gives himself a full day of doing nothing but scrolling his phone. He jumps from one Wikipedia article to another and explores exceedingly niche substacks.
And he still gets 118 time. At least once a week he goes in and cooks a filling lunch for them. He does it at the 217 too, where they sing his praises. He even spent two days being a firefighter when Chim came down with a cold. All in all his month off was pretty amazing, and he figures December would be a piece of cake. He's so sure that he tells Bobby he'll take January too.
Except it stops being a piece of cake. Two days in and he's already restless. It doesn't help when Tommy, Chim, and Eddie show up and tell him how they worked together for a rooftop rescue at Nakatomi Tower. Buck doesn't know the building and asks where it's located. The guys are dumbfounded. "Like, Die Hard, man," Eddie tells him. "Come out to the coast, we'll get together, have a few laughs?" Tommy says hopefully. "Die Hard...Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker?" Chimney prods. "Oh, yeah," Buck says, having it all click together.
After that his aimlessness really takes hold. He keeps himself busy by feeding the 217 breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the days Tommy works. On his second day, one of Tommy's crew tells him, "You know, you should start taking orders. Make some money since they won't let you fight fires.
Buck's surprised at how fast the idea takes hold. He spends all four of his days with Tommy talking about it. He feels like he's vibrating out of his skin, and he falls just a little more in love with Tommy when he tells Buck that his idea is not only good, but that he knows a guy who can help make it happen.
Buck next goes to his team and explains his idea. He's going to open a sandwich service. Nearby fire stations will send in orders the day before, the sandwiches will be made the next morning, and delivered throughout the afternoon. Tommy has a friend who will rent out commercial kitchen space to him, and the employees will be fellow furloughed firefighters. They wouldn't be making the same pay, but they would be making something instead of draining out their savings like Buck. Eddie's all in, but Hen and Chim are a little more hesitant. Whether they come around or not, that's okay. Buck plans on starting small and thinks he can do it with three or four people, and he has multiple firehouses to pull from. But he knows his biggest hurdle is coming up with the start-up cash.
He toys with the idea of asking his parents for a loan. They were willing to fork over money for Chim and Maddie's down payment, and they swear up and down they want to make amends, so if Buck needs to use guilt to get a cut, he will. Before he can work up the nerve to ask, Tommy hands him a card and calls it an early Christmas present. Inside is a check for 10k. Buck's floored and misty eyed. He asks how and why and are you sure? Tommy pulls him in and tells Buck that he's sure. That he believes in Buck and wants to do whatever he can to help him succeed. Including making sandwiches.
And that's it. That's all I've got. Purged from the system.

Seven Several Sentence Sunday🥹
I’m writing another chronic pain!Buck fic except this time it’s bucktommy <3
“Evan?” Tommy asks, his voice deep and gravelly. If it were any other day Buck would find that incredibly attractive. Unfortunately he isn’t able to enjoy it. Now that he’s aware of the pain in his leg it only seems to get worse. His leg throbs, it feels like his bones are trying to bully their way out of his flesh. He clenches his eyes shut as he wills his leg to calm down.
“‘M fine,” he gets out through a clenched jaw.
Tommy squints at him, tilting his head to the side. “Evan,” he repeats in a way that Buck knows means he doesn’t believe him for a second.
“Just sore,” Buck says, breathing deeply.
“Your leg?” Tommy asks and Buck simply nods, a tear escaping from his eyes. Tommy raises his hand to his face, gently wiping away the tear drop with his thumb.
“How’d you know?” Buck mumbles, he didn’t think he’d mentioned his pain to Tommy before.
“Ah, Eddie may have mentioned it one time,” Tommy replies.
Buck frowns. “You two talk about me?”
To that Tommy smiles. “‘Course. Had to find out information about the cute firefighter somehow.”
Buck smiles but it comes out more as a grimace as a particularly painful throb makes its way through his leg. “Sorry,” he starts, “I know this wasn’t what you were expecting to wake up to.”
Tommy scrunches his eyebrows at him and Buck wonders if he’s fucked up again. “Evan, are you— are you apologising for being in pain?”
Buck ducks his head. “I—I just— I’m sorry in advance for not being much fun right now.”
Tommy places his fingers under Buck’s chin, tilting his head up so that he’s looking at his eyes. “Hey, you’re in pain, and I’m your boyfriend, that means it’s my job to take care of you now. If you’ll let me?”
“You—you want to take care of me?” Buck says, eyes widening at Tommy.
Tommy frowns again. “Of course I do,” he says, placing a gentle kiss to Buck’s forehead.

Season 7 should just fully ignore Eddie and Buck's respective love lives for the first 8-9 episodes. Let the show should focus on the other main characters and give them major story lines since 6b was very Buck centered (rightfully so the man died).
I want- no I need - to see Hen and Karen learning to balance being mothers to a newborn baby and a pre-teen and working. Let us see them figuring that out and supporting each other.
I also want to see Bobby and Athena back from their honeymoon and glowing and realizing that there's so much more to life than their jobs. It would be very fun to see them start talking about retirement with other people and seeing how the other characters react.
We need a Ravi story line too! Ravi begins??? We could use a Ravi begins. Let us see Ravi's backstory and his childhood in and out of hospitals. Let us see his family react to him becoming a firefighter.
Maddie and Chim are obviously planning their wedding, but I also want to see Maddie at the call center stepping up and maybe training to be the next Sue? Or even better, maybe Maddie thinks about getting back into nursing.
And Chim's story should be about how he's finally got the family and home he's always dreamed about and he doesn't know what comes next. Give us Hen and Chim bonding about feeling like you're waiting for the other shoe to drop when things are going too well in their personal lives.
Eddie should have a story line outside of his love life and outside of being a dad. He's been so defined by fatherhood, firefighting, and being a widower, he needs something in his life that's just for him. Maybe Eddie has a bit of a mini breakdown about Chris growing up and we see him spending time with each of the other characters trying to figure out who Eddie is. We hear a bit about him and Buck without Chris trying different hobbies together while Chris is at sleepovers and being a 12/13 year old.
Our main lens to Buck's personal life should be through him helping Maddie and Chim plan the wedding (clipboard Buck please and thank you!), through seeing him with the Diaz boys doing domestic stuff like making dinner and game nights, and hanging out with Eddie. We never SEE Buck and Eddie hanging out alone, but we hear them talking about it.
THEN in episode 9 or 10 we should see everyone getting their invites to Maddie and Chim's wedding and both Buck and Eddie RSVP 'plus one' except we haven't seen them with a girlfriend all season?? What the fuck is up with that??
Only for them to show up to the wedding together. And the audience thinks it's because Buck is Maddie's Man of Honour and Eddie is one of Chim's groomsmen. But then we get a shot of Eddie helping Buck with his tie or something and then after he pulls him into a kiss. And it's clearly not a first kiss, it's a gently peck like they've been doing it for months.
AND THEN after the wedding we get an episode that's the missing Buck and Eddie scenes from the season. We always heard about them but it wasn't ever shown. And it turns out all those little adventures were dates and they've been dating for months without telling anyone.

i know people love a villain (especially an evil or emotionally abusive parent) in a network procedural but the helena diaz hate train is a little unfounded if not misogynistic
i am on eddie's side and i love him and im so excited for him to confront his trauma and his mistakes and for the characters on the show to show up for him. he's had a genuinely concerning mental health crisis basically once every other season since we met him and i want him to focus on himself instead of worrying about being a perfect father all the time and hindering his own healing in effort to put chris first
that being said sometimes children are betrayed by their parents and go to live with their grandparents for a while. chris has been whisked away and abandoned several times growing up by both of his parents including the time his mother died. eddie is basically put on suicide watch in season 5 due to an EXTREMELY TRAUMATIZING MOMENT FOR CHRIS. the thing with kim as a whole is a result of his inability to process his own trauma and pain and it keeps happening. at the end of season 7 CHRIS calls his grandparents because he cannot trust his father and it is not uncommon or unreasonable for a kid his age who has gone through what he's gone through to live with his grandparents
like this isn't "i'm mad at my dad for cheating on his girlfriend" it's "a woman who looked identical to my mother who died suddenly and tragically when i was like seven years old was in my living room embracing my father while i was hanging out with his girlfriend who babysits me regularly due to the fact that my father is a firefighter and i am a disabled teenager"
helena and ramon are presumably wealthy, presumably retired, presumably have a stable marriage, and chris trusts them. and im not saying that that's a requirement to take care of a child but that's clearly what chris wants and needs right now
being like "helena is taking advantage of the situation because she was never a good parent to eddie and should in fact be pushing chris back to him" is
1. ignoring chris' agency and the legitimate reasons he had for calling his grandparents in texas vs like buck or someone
2. USUALLY ignoring ramon's hand in it even though ramon was the parent to eddie that was neglectful and arguably emotionally abusive on some level
3. a bad faith reading of a nuanced situation where helena and ramon ON SCREEN IN TEXT believed, supported, and empathized with eddie when they were picking up chris
i understand the desire to have a bad guy in whatever situation but also like. a genuinely really lazy boring reading to me to be like "and no one has done anything wrong except for this horrid woman who has bad intentions and probably never loved her son"
PS i know no one is going to read this let alone agree with me but if anyone uses this as an excuse to say anything bad about eddie diaz. don't

Part 1
Part 2
--- Third Person POV ---
Hours later, the team has been given the go ahead to go home but every one of them is heading to the hospital in hopes of seeing (Y/N). Hen cleared it with Bobby first but decided it was best if she stayed with Eddie who has been pacing the waiting room the entire time since they sent (Y/N) back. She had sent messages to everyone she could think of, letting them know which hospital they’re at and keeping them updated. Unfortunately, the phones have only just now been able to start working again. Her phone begins exploding with notifications. Carla is bringing Chris as well as a change of clothes for Eddie. Athena says she and the kids are on the way but stopping for coffee and snacks. Karen confirms she’s getting Denny and Mara in the car now with a change of clothes for Hen. Maddie and Jee are on their way too. Every single person that Hen texted, responds except for the 118 members, Talia, and Tommy who all changed out of their gear as soon as they got to the station and piled into Bobby’s truck and Buck’s Jeep.
Those who responded all trickle in with Athena, May, and Harry bringing up the rear as they drop several bags of snacks and a couple gallons of cold brew on the coffee table that everyone has gathered around. Carla and Chris have convinced Eddie, who is now nursing a cup of cold brew, to sit down and are posted on either side of him, Carla rubbing his back and Chris holding his hand tightly. Karen and Hen are playing patty cake with Jee while Maddie begs the nursing staff for an update. Harry, Denny, and Mara are quietly discussing some video game while they snack. Athena and May share a look before they make their way over to Maddie and gently tug her back to the group. It seems everyone lets out a breath they had been holding when the group of firefighters step through the glass doors. The waiting room is brought to life as everyone greets each other. Eddie on the other hand is rooted to his seat and staring at the floor.
Just as Bobby is about to place his hand on Eddie’s shoulder, the doctor enters the waiting room. Everyone waits with bated breath as he approaches them, Talia and Eddie both rushing to meet him. He looks around at the rather large group before chuckling, “You’re all here for (Y/N) (Y/L/N)?” Several in the group nod so he continues, “Good. She’s out of surgery. It was a little touch and go but she’s stable. The anesthesia will wear off soon but, due to the amount of blood she lost, it may take her some time to wake up. Once we get her settled into a room, I’ll let you all know.” Everyone nods in understanding and releases the breath they were holding. A few of them thank the doctor as he walks away. Eddie drops back into a chair, laying his head back against the wall, and grabs hold of Christopher’s hand again. Talia is pulls Tommy away from the group to ask him what’s going on between (Y/N) and Eddie, soon finding herself in tears upon hearing the news. Tommy pulls her into a tight hug, hating that he had to break it to her. The others strike up conversations to pass the time.
A short while later, the doctor returns to the group, “She’s in a room. Anesthesia should be worn off but as I explained earlier, she’s not awake yet. That being said, you can see her now but you’ll have to take turns. I don’t want more than two or three in there at a time. You can find her in room A204.” As he departs, Eddie kisses the top of Christopher’s head and heads to her room.
Everyone else has their eyes on Talia who hasn’t moved a muscle. Tommy places his hand on her shoulder, “Go.” She looks up at him and around the group with uncertainty but with a nod from Bobby she’s off toward the room as well.
When Talia enters the room, Eddie is sitting in a chair on the opposite side of the bed from the door. He is holding (Y/N)’s hand tightly, tears streaming down his face, and mumbling under his breath, “(Y/N) please, you gotta wake up for me.” She takes a seat on the other side of the bed and the room falls silent aside from the steady beep of the heart monitor.
A few moments pass before he clears his throat, “If it weren’t for you, she- she wouldn’t be alive right now.”
Fresh tears paint her cheeks as she looks down at her lap, “If it weren’t for me, she wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place.”
He looks at her, head titled, “What do you mean?”
“If it weren’t for me, the love of her life wouldn’t have broken up with her, she wouldn’t have been in that therapy office, and she wouldn’t have been run through with rebar,” she admits, struggling to get the words out through her tears. He is immensely confused at first but she clarifies before he can ask, “A few weeks ago I called her because I needed someone to keep me from hurting myself. She came no questions asked. She’s been stopping by to check on me a lot. She always answers the phone when I need her. Selfishly, I made her promise not to tell anyone because I didn’t want my team finding out.” Eddie’s heart breaks as he realizes but she continues, “If it weren’t for me, she wouldn’t be in this mess.”
He reaches his hand across the bed for Talia’s who hesitantly takes it. He looks her dead in the eyes, “You cannot blame yourself for any of this. You did the best thing you could which was ask for help when you needed it. You don’t know where she would’ve been if not in that office with you. It could- it could’ve been much worse.” He pauses for a moment, looking back at (Y/N), “I wish I would’ve just believed and trusted her when she said she had a good reason.”
Talia wipes her tears away; she still feels terrible about everything but knows (Y/N) would’ve told her the same exact thing that Eddie did. She squeezes his hand gently, “I know I’m not around you and the rest of her new family that much but I’ve heard a lot about everyone.” He looks up at her and she continues, “I’ve heard more about you and Chris than anyone else. She always has a blindingly bright smile on her face when she tells me about you two and I know without a shadow of a doubt that she loves you more than life itself.” Eddie nods as Talia squeezes his hand once more before dropping it and standing up to leave. Before she opens the door, she stops and looks back at him, “She still does. She wouldn’t hesitate for a second to take you back. Hell, I don’t even think she even let you go.”
Eddie kisses (Y/N) knuckles as Talia leaves, “I don’t deserve it but I hope to god you can forgive me for being so stupid...”
It’s not long before the door opens again, this time by Buck and Tommy. Eddie does his best to slap on a smile when he sees Chris right behind them. He watches his son take the seat Talia had been in previously and grab hold of (Y/N)’s hand, “Is she gonna be okay?” he asks hopefully looking up at his father.
Eddie nods reassuringly, “Yeah, she’s just sleeping so her body can recover.”
Chris nods and looks down at where his hand meets hers, “Where’s her bracelet?”
“They had to take it off so it wouldn’t get messed up during the surgery and recovery,” Eddie responds. In his peripheral, he sees Buck and Tommy patiently waiting their turn.
Chris seems deep in thought for a few seconds before stating, “She’s gonna kick their asses when she finds out. I gotta fix it.” With this, he gets up and exits the room on a mission. Buck goes after him, motioning for Eddie to stay put.
It’s quiet again as Eddie and Tommy listen to the steady beep of her heart. Finally, Tommy takes a seat. Eddie makes eye contact with him, “I’m sorry. Talia told me everything. I know I fucked up and I know she means the world to you.”
Tommy looks over at (Y/N) face and reaches up to brush her hair out of her eyes as he thinks. Taking a deep breath, he responds, “Just promise me that the next time you think about doing something stupid, we hit the mat first so I can knock some sense into you.”
Eddie chuckles, nodding, “I will.” It’s quiet again while Eddie debates with himself before finally pulling something out of his pocket and handing it to Tommy, “Does this count as something stupid?”
Tommy looks down at the ring box in his hand as his smile grows. After opening it, he answers, “Never in a million years.” He closes the box and hands it back to Eddie, “But you should know that Buck was looking forward to helping you pick it out. He’s gonna be heart broken.”
Eddie puts the box back in his pocket, “Technically, he did help me pick it out. Whether he remembers that or not is a different story.”
Tommy knits his brows together in confusion, “What?”
Eddie smiles, “I went with him when he bought you that bracelet a while back. He was looking through the cases while we waited on them to bag it up. I was zoned out thinking about (Y/N) when he slapped me on the shoulder and very excitedly pointed at a specific ring saying, ‘(Y/N) would love this one!’”
Tommy shakes his head chuckling, “So, you bought it?”
Eddie shrugs, “Not right then but after a few days of constantly thinking about it, I had to.” Tommy laughs but Eddie’s face drops. At the tilt of Tommy’s head, Eddie adds, “I held onto it, trying to find the right time to ask her but then she started acting weird and...”
Tommy sighs, “You still have it though. You didn’t let her go.”
Eddie shakes his head, “I couldn’t. I broke up with her because I was scared of getting hurt but it hurt so much more to do so. I thought maybe if I just distanced myself from her for a while that it would stop but if anything, it got worse.” He takes a deep breath, “I just hope she’ll forgive me because I don’t know how much longer I can take this ring burning a hole in my pocket.”
Tommy nods, “She will. She’ll do it in a heartbeat but then you gotta nut up and give her that ring.”
Eddie smiles, “Would it be too much to ask her to forgive me and marry me in the same conversation?”
Tommy shakes his head violently, “Absolutely not.”
Eddie laughs, “Good.”
Over the next few hours, people come and go. Everyone gets their own turn of checking on her and reassuring Eddie that she’ll be okay. Finally, with only Eddie in the room, she stirs. She squints up at the ceiling as she tries to process where she is. The sound of her moving her head to look around alerts Eddie who jerks up from where he lays on her arm, “Hey, you’re okay. You’re in the hospital.”
She nods, trying to speak but her mouth is dry. Eddie hands her the bottle of water, Carla had brought him earlier, from the side table that and helps her take a few sips. When she pulls away, he sets the bottle back down on the table and brushes her hair from her face, “How are you feeling?”
She stares at him for a few seconds before whispering, “I’m just glad you’re here.”
He kisses her knuckles, “Of course I am, baby. I love you so much and I’m so sorry I doubted you.” The confusion on her face prompts him to add, “Talia told me what happened. I can’t believe I ever thought you’d do something like that. I should’ve known you had a good reason.” She smiles softly but he still feels the need to ask, “Will you forgive me?”
She nods immediately, “Of course.” Out of habit she reaches to fidget with her bracelet but finds it missing, “I’m gonna kick someone’s ass.”
Eddie laughs heartily, “Chris said you would.”
She reaches up to cup his cheek, “I love you.”
He leans into her touch, “I love you too.”
The moment is interrupted when the door opens again but both are immediately delighted to see Carla opening the door for Chris who is overjoyed to see (Y/N) awake. He takes a seat as Carla waves with a smile before closing the door to give the small family a moment. With one hand, Chris reaches over and takes (Y/N)’s left wrist and wraps her bracelet back where it belongs with the other. She smiles brightly but Eddie is suspicious, “Chris, did you pester the nursing staff for that.”
He grins proudly, “Yup, I told them my step mom would kick their butts if they didn’t give it to me.”
Eddie and (Y/N) share an amused look before she ruffles Christopher’s hair, “Thanks, buddy.” He grins and reaches up to take her hand in his.
Eddie’s eyes flick between the two before he stands and joins Chris on the other side of the bed. (Y/N) is slightly confused when he places his hands on Christopher’s shoulder and whispers something in his ear. Chris listens intently before nodding incessantly, “Yes! Do it. Do it now.”
Eddie grins and ruffles his son’s hair, “Alright, alright calm down. I will.” He places himself between Chris and (Y/N). She is utterly bumfuzzled but Chris is dancing in his seat excitedly. Eddie removes something from his pocket and drops to one knee causing her to slap her hand over her mouth. The man smiles up at her, “I know this isn’t at all the ideal time or place to ask you this but,” he looks around the room and then back at her, “I was very recently reminded that we aren’t promised tomorrow, especially in our line of work.” He opens the ring box and holds it up to her, “(Y/N), will you marry me?”
Chris cheers happily upon hearing her answer, “Yes!” Tears of joy fill both Eddie and (Y/N)’s eyes as he slips the ring on her finger, stands, and kisses her with every ounce of love that he can.
The couple parts when the door opens again as Buck and Tommy poke their heads in. Tommy grins, immediately noticing the ring on her finger. Slightly confused having missed the small but important detail, Buck stutters, “Sorry, Carla told us she’s awake. Are-are we interrupting something? We can come back later.”
Tommy pushes past his boyfriend and makes his way to (Y/N)’s right side, making eye contact with Eddie, “I told you she would. Does your leg feel better without that hole burning in your pocket?”
Eddie nods, laughing as identical looks of confusion settle on (Y/N) and Buck’s faces as Buck paces over to Tommy’s side. Eddie looks down at her, “I showed it to him earlier.”
Understanding replaces her confusion but Buck is still lost, “What hole? Showed who what? I’m so confused.” (Y/N) holds her hand up to Buck showing off her ring. He gasps for words as excitement floods his entire body and he takes her hand in his to inspect it. None of them notice as the doctor stops in the open doorway, observes what is happening, and then immediately makes his way to the waiting room. After a minute or so, Buck’s face drops to disappointment as he looks up at Eddie and Tommy, letting go of her hand, “I kinda wanted to help pick it out...” Tommy pats his head before wrapping his arm around his waist.
Eddie shakes his head chuckling, “Do you not recognize it? You were so damn sure she’d like it that you bruised my arm to get my attention.”
It takes a few seconds but realization finally smacks across his face as he gasps, “This is that ring?”
Eddie nods as (Y/N) who is admiring the ring confirms, “He wasn’t wrong. I love it.” Everyone smiles as Eddie kisses the top of her head. Before anyone can say anything else, the door opens and their friends and family flood in. Everyone gushes over the ring, offers the couple their congratulations, and states how glad they are that (Y/N) is okay.
Talia takes a seat on the edge of the bed to (Y/N)’s right, “The doctor had to step out of the way of the stampede after he told us you had a ring on that you weren’t admitted with.” (Y/N) laughs, barely able to spot the doctor in the doorway through the crowd of friends and family. She gives him a thumbs up and he nods with a smile as he returns to his rounds.
She looks to Talia and takes her hand in her own but before she can say it, Talia assures, “I know what you’re gonna say. Eddie already did.” (Y/N) looks to Eddie who is locked in a tight hug from Bobby with a smile on his face that is bigger than she’s ever seen. Talia leans over to whisper in her ear, “You weren’t kidding when you said Tommy is wrapped around Buck’s finger.” As (Y/N) turns back to look at Talia, she spots Tommy who is wrapped around Buck from behind. Both are smiling brightly as Buck and Maddie are already discussing bachelor party plans.
“They’re next, I’m calling it now,” (Y/N) tells Talia who laughs loudly. Their hands stay locked together as (Y/N) looks back to Eddie who now has an arm around Christopher’s shoulders as they chat excitedly with Carla. Carla notices her looking and nods in her direction as she shoves the two toward her. Eddie takes the hand she offers him and Chris climbs up to sit beside her. An hour or so passes before a nurse squeezes through the crowded hospital room. She smiles at (Y/N) before proceeding to check her vitals and give her fresh bandages. Only when (Y/N) is nodding off and very obviously struggling to stay awake does everyone wish her well, promise they’ll visit again later, and head home. Soon, the only ones left are her boys. She kisses the top of Christopher’s head as she notices he has fallen asleep carefully tucked into her side. She pats the right side of the bed for Eddie to join her. The three of them have to scoot in real close to fit on the hospital bed but after the week she’s had, she wouldn’t have it any other way.

in the romcom genre, the pairing gets a happy ending. no exceptions. romances that don't end with happy endings for the main pairing aren't considered romances by genre conventions. so, given that tim and oliver have been calling bucktommy a romcom... what's all this then? this is normally the place in the story where the couple just emerges from their honeymoon period to hit rock bottom. (see: the black moment). the characters hit a hurdle that seems insurmountable and then are forced to work through the issues keeping them apart to find their way back to one another. the third act breakup before the eventually happy ending. so... what's all this then? if i hadn't read the interviews i would've pegged this as the black moment, the temporary hurdle placed in the couple's way before they eventually work past it.
so where do they go from here? if this is actually not meant to last, i do think the breakup is going to leave a sour taste in some people's mouths even if B/T get back together. and they expressed wanting to get buck off the "hamster wheel" so just putting him in another string of not-meant-to-last relationships seems regressive. (i think having buck sleeping around could actually be interesting if handled well, but right now i don't know if i trust this writing staff with that sort of arc.)
also i will be honest and say, to me, it doesn't sound like lou is 100% absolutely not coming back. it feels like the door's been left ajar (which, they'd be dumb to completely slam it shut and cut off a potential avenue of stories just like that but still). and we should keep in mind that most of these journalists are B/E shippers first so there might be a slant baked into their interviews.
i just don't know where this is going now after being told by tim "this is a romcom" (thanks tim, you've broken genre rules if this is a permanent breakup) and that he wanted to get buck off the hamster wheel. i suppose they can pivot to buck taking what he learned into a new relationship but he's already done that after abby, after ali, after taylor, after natalia... it's just boring. if they didn't want buck to settle into being with tommy because they weren't sure how to write SLs for him that's a skill issue. they've written bathena just fine without constant relationship issues. they're happy and settled together but still have conflict that doesn't necessarily have to be relationship-related. they could've easily done that for bucktommy too. (kind of an aside, but it also feels like they don't really know what sort of SLs to give henren and madney.)
after going through the trouble to bring tommy back, set him up to fit in with the 118, stating that tommy being a firefighter/pilot could lead to his inclusion on calls, introduce and hint at backstory that tommy longs for family/belonging, only to never actually deliver on it... why?
