here's my fire lookout i built that you can live in for free funded by Ranger Dale. you can also actually work here, but you have to pretend. I basically put notes around the lookout (using Lumpinou's notes mod) to add lore and help understand the characters. if you want to actually do tasks i put a daily tasks tracker on the desk using Ravasheen's journal mod so you can write down the weather and temperature and any campers spotted on the grounds. I also put campfires all around the place so that you an actually put out fires if townies try and light campfires. anyway it is pack heavy and a little cc so ill put it up somewhere soon

New AU Idea... Hear Me Out
Fears to fathom is a game series with seemingly true stories sent in to devs. There is a more recent game Ironbark Lookout which has two characters I think y'all would enjoy making an au out of. The main character works at a fire lookout tower with their only company being another man named Conner. The main character is named Jack btw. I won't spoil what happens in the game but know it is psychological horror and if you decide to play... the devs figured out how to make a pee mechanic once and never looked back...
There is also the fact that Connor just refers to Jack as new guy for the eternity of the game... I love it and we were joking around while playing how high the chemistry between them is...
Edited to add the no commentary playthrough I found for this.

Columbia Breaks Fire Interpretive Center, WA
A fire lookout (sometimes also called a fire watcher) is a person assigned the duty to look for fire from atop a building known as a fire lookout tower. These towers are used in remote areas, normally on mountain tops with high elevation and a good view of the surrounding terrain, to spot smoke caused by a wildfire.
Once a possible fire is spotted, "Smoke Reports", or "Lookout Shots" are relayed to the local Emergency Communications Center (ECC), often by radio or phone. A fire lookout can use a device known as an Osborne Fire Finder to obtain the radial in degrees off the tower, and the estimated distance from the tower to the fire.
Part of the lookout's duties include taking weather readings and reporting the findings to the Emergency Communications Center throughout the day. Often several lookouts will overlap in coverage areas and each will “cross” the same smoke, allowing the ECC to use triangulation from the radials to achieve an accurate location of the fire.
Once ground crews and fire suppression aircraft are active in fire suppression, the lookout personnel continue to search for new smoke plumes which may indicate spotting and alterations that pose risks to ground crews.
