time for a wip breakdown post:

digital reflections au - explained in this post. short version: jay is replaced by an npc clone of himself (called superstar rockin’ jay) during s12 and is abandoned in prime empire by the unaware ninja. two oneshots have been planned; one has been written and posted here, and the other’s about halfway done.

putting the puzzle pieces back together - my take on what happened to jay post-merge! written post-leaks and pre-teasers so it’s all based on the fact that jay has amnesia and he’s working for the administration (which, in my au, is an agency dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and using it to keep the other realms in line). it’s been a project of mine for a while and i cannot wait to share the rest of it (especially what i have planned for jay’s powers)!

my currently-unnamed groundhog day au is based on the concept of the film (time loops), but not strictly the plot. kai and nya get stuck in a time loop during the finale of s7, and have to work with each other, their newly-returned parents, and the ninja to restore time to its natural state. i have a couple of scenes planned for this but that’s about it; i’m trying (emphasis on the word trying) to finish my other projects before tackling this!

and finally: my other prime empire au that’s been in the works since… *checks notes* july 2022?!? it’s gone through many changes and rewrites due to the fact it’s heavily science-fiction inspired and therefore requires a lot of lore-building to make sense. it’s a prime empire au, but in the loosest sense possible: there’s a video game called prime empire, some people get trapped in it, and jay gets separated from the ninja - but that’s about all there is in common. unfortunately i can’t say too much about it, given the fact that there are certain plot twists that change the trajectory of the entire story and are therefore spoilers.

1) how many works do you have on ao3?

five, at the moment

2) what’s your total ao3 wordcount?

43,430 words (a very nice number!)

3) what fandom(s) do you write for?

just ninjago! i might make stuff for other fandoms, but i’m happy just writing about the plastic lego guys at the moment

4) what are your top five fics by kudos?

yes yes yes!!!! it takes me a while, but i appreciate every single one of them, from the keysmashes to the theories <33

6) what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

(glances at the “angst” tag on all my fics) well, they all have their angsty moments, but i’d say it’s a tie between Thin Ice Breaks Easily (if you like lloyd + zane angst) and ERROR: Battery Low (if you like jay angst)! and rest assured, there��ll be angstier stuff to come >:)

7) what is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Current Runs Thicker Than Water wins that easily! bittersweet but hopeful endings are one of my favourite kinds.

8) do you get hate on fics?

thankfully not! the closest it’s been are requests to update stuff (which i’m getting round to, i swear-)

9) do you write smut? if so, what kind?

nope. not for me.

10) do you write crossovers? what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

i don’t write crossover fics, but i have some au fics planned which involve events from other media!

11) have you ever had a fic stolen?

again - thankfully not.

12) what’s the longest time you’ve spent working on a fic? and what’s the shortest?

longest - my wip The Enneadic Logs, by far. it’ll be around two years old by the time i start posting it!

shortest - Thin Ice Breaks Easily, because i had a deadline and i kept rewriting it ToT. but i’m happy with the final result!

13) have you ever co-written a fic?

not yet, but i’d be interested!!

14) what’s your all-time favourite ship? from every fandom?

uhhhh… i’m not an overly shippy person, so if I go by which ship i’ve written about the most, i’d say jaya.

15) what’s a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

i’ve got a rough outline for a nyad-centric fic, but that’s very much in the drafts stage, and i don’t have a load of motivation to work on that.

16) what are your writing strengths?

i love love love going into depth with how elemental powers feel to their holders, and i’ve been told i’m great at describing that!

17) what are your writing weaknesses?

dialogue, i think? i tend to overthink it a lot, and usually i have to wait until my brain comes up with something that sounds natural. that’s the bit i edit the most!

18) thoughts in writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

already done it! there’s latin in Putting the Puzzle Pieces Back Together (for plot reasons), which was translated by the amazing @inspectorghoul :D

(i’m now realising that i didn’t translate all of it in the fic, so if anyone wants translations for stuff you can send in an ask!)

19) first fandom you wrote for?

ninjago!

20) favourite fic you’ve ever written?

i can’t choose - either ERROR: Battery Low for the poetic writing style i’m proud of, Putting the Puzzle Pieces Back Together for what’s going to happen in later chapters, or The Enneadic Logs for the sheer chaos that unfolds!

“Jay?”

Jay slides to a halt at Zane’s robotic yet soft voice.

“Mhm?” he hums in response, waiting not-so-patiently for Zane to continue. Whatever he’s going to say will probably delay Jay for no longer than five minutes—but five minutes of time wasted in the monastery is five minutes fewer to work on Prime Empire.

Zane nods towards the chore chart, stuck to the fridge with novelty Starfarer magnets. “You may have forgotten this, but I believe it is your slot to do the—”

“Dishes.” Jay groans emphatically. He must’ve lost track of which day of the week it is. Again. “Correct as usual, Frosty.”

And so it turns out the dirty plates he just dumped in the sink are, in fact, his problem.

twitch - Putting the Puzzle Pieces Back Together (part 1, published)

Remembering the porcelain charm was still on the floor, he bent down to retrieve it, but something made him stop. 

At first, he didn’t know exactly what had caused it. The building sense of unease; the hair on the back of his neck standing up. His fingers twitched as the feeling spasmed down his body. 

Then the ozone gathered in the air, and he realised.

It was the opposite of thunder. Thunder came a few seconds after a lightning strike, a rumbling reminder of something brief and bright. This feeling was the other side of the coin. It was the slow build up to the moment the lightning struck the ground. It was a warning.

He couldn’t explain how he knew it, but Jay knew that lightning was going to strike. And it was going to strike soon.

Because Jay should’ve been able to survive this. He should’ve had the strength to break his prison of code. He should’ve been found by his friends, because they wouldn’t have stopped their search for him if they’d known he was missing.

(Would they? He hopes they would.)

He might’ve had a chance if it weren’t for him.

Ignoring the shooting pain that rippled through his side, Jay raised his arm and tossed the dirt, aiming straight for the target’s eyes. It had the intended effect—the target swore, coughed, and rubbed frantically at his eyes.

Jay seized his chance.

Subtle sparks tickled against his fingers, grounding him. He closed his eyes and exhaled, focusing on the surge of the lightning, the way it ebbed and flowed through his body in crackling waves. 

Jay opened his eyes, and the Web spread out before him.
