I am looking for a fic that I am about 90% sure was stony. Essentially the premise was something like - people's 'love' is manifested in a stone/jewellery that you literally gave to the person you loved, friends etc I think it also was linked to people's health. Tony only had a tiny stone to begin with that he kept in a box and he gave practically all of it away to each of the Avengers... it was a fic with lots of pining/ self-worth issues if I remember correctly

HELLO STEVETONIES I am looking for a tumblr post that contained some stevetony sun/moon meta. The gist of the post is this:

It starts by acknowledging that people tend to view tony as the moon bc Tony typically gets cast as the more feminine partner between the two of them but actually! He is the Sun for several reasons: it’s reflected in the color scheme of his suit, he literally emits his own light through the RT/arc reactor, he sustains and supports the rest of the Avengers, and his unrelenting drive to create is analogous to the constant energy put out by the Sun.

Whereas Steve is the moon because again, the cooler tones of his suit evoke the moon, his best qualities as a leader involve helping other Avengers reach their full potential on the team like the moon reflects the light from other celestial beings, and the moon, like Steve, have narrative connections to the sea.

hey, so. funny thing.

@whinysteve and i have been going insane for like two days because we couldn't find this one fic we really liked, and we both remembered reading it not so long ago but somehow neither of us could recall how it ended? and we kept saying that it's so GOOD and how the heck did it just disappear? well, after hours of losing my mind going through my ao3 history, the steve/tony tag with various keywords, the findingstony blog... it. it hit me that i can't find it because it doesn't exist. because it was the soulmates au idea you posted like two weeks ago where their words only show up after they've met their soulmate.

i thought you might find this amusing. 😩 (i do, but i also need to lie down for a bit because i will never know how steve fixed that mess)

hahahaha omg liv if this is your way of peer pressuring me into writing the whole fic i might actually do it??? because your ask has got me thinking about what would happen next.

that said, steve still hasn't figured out how to fix this mess. i'm very sorry about this.

having been rescued by SHIELD, news of steve's recovery was immediately delivered to howard stark who, while not as involved with SHIELD as he used to be, still receives weekly reports as one of its co-founders.

he'd gone home that night and brought it up in the middle of cutting his steak. coincidentally, tony had been visiting that day and stayed for dinner, so he found out about captain america's miraculous resurrection before the general public did, and honestly, he had enough of hearing about how great this guy was growing up. he really didn't need to keep hearing about it as an adult after he'd finally worked through his issues with his dad and his obsession with a (not quite) dead war hero.

so after howard's announcement, tony politely requested howard refrain from talking about this guy with him.

"i know he's your friend, and you'll probably be spending a bit of time with him now that he's been found, and i'm really happy for you, but i think it would be better for our relationship if we could talk about literally anything but him," he'd said.

and, well. howard was trying. he knew he wasn't the best dad and he also wanted to do right by maria, who spent so many years torn between her son and her husband while trying to mend their relationship. they were finally in a relatively good place with each other which made maria happy. and to be frank, howard had actually come to really enjoy tony's company whenever he was home. he was quite happy too. so he agreed. they don't talk about steve and howard doesn't ask tony to meet steve.

that very night, tony made sure 'captain america' and 'steve rogers' were muted in all his news feeds and social channels.

he literally doesn't know a single thing about the man besides what he learned in his childhood, which he's blocked out. it's a peaceful two years of blissful ignorance.

fast forward to now, tony's packing up his suitcase and getting ready to check out of his hotel when he sees a text from his mom in their family group chat.

seems he's not quite the perfect role model you always made him out to be, howard 🤡, her message reads.

what follows is a link to an instagram post, and from the message preview he can see that it's steve rogers' profile, and under normal circumstances he wouldn't even bother clicking the link.

but 1) maria usually never brings up the man in tony's presence either, and 2) her comment made him laugh. so color tony intrigued.

he taps the link and sees the post. it's a picture of a coffee cup from the place he was at a week ago. the one where he got body slammed by his mysterious dick of a soulmate and unfairly yelled at for it.

he reads the caption and his legs give out under him.

i don't even know if you'll see this, but all i can do is hope. i'm sorry for the words that have made their mark on you. i know i don't deserve it, but i'm hoping you could give me a second chance. i won't yell at you this time, i promise. yours, a fucking asshole

one week ago, captain america was barely even a blip on tony's radar and that's how he preferred it. now, steve rogers is tony's mysterious dick of a soulmate.

what the fuck even is his life.

I just remembered that it started with the avengers living with tony after the events of the avengers 2012 movie, but like clint and natasha warned steve that tony throw his money and people and stuff so they treat him badly at first, and when tony start building them stuff they get more angry and more miscommunications happens, he evens makes natasha a bulletproof dress like the spy movies, then rhodey comes to visit and punches steve when he hears about what the avengers done to tony and everyone apologizes

It was multiple parts and was steve/tony endgame

I just can’t remember the name at all can you help me please

Okay, I'm back. Sorry I needed a bit of a break from things. Just from everything. Not this blog but everything in [gestures vaguely] life.

As some of you know, my phone broke back over the summer and I lost all of my open tabs and where I was on my journey. That definitely was a setback and I didn't know how I wanted to handle it.

But now that I've had time to think about it, I've decided to.... restart my journey.

Lol.

Now I know you probably think I'm insane, but here are my reasons. When I first started reading I was only reading MCU based fic because I thought you had to choose a fandom on AO3. It wasn't for a while before I figured out I could just click on the ship's tag and see everything. So I was severely lacking in 616 fic. Also I didn't read everything when I started. I tended to skip AUs, a lot of the more kinky stuff. As I read more I opened myself up to a lot more types of fics.

And then finally my last reason is I want to change the way I interact with fic and fandom. I want to comment more and read WIPs and I dunno. I want to share and spread my enthusiasm. I also want to pull back in some ways, *except* on this blog. I want to get to know you and gush with you all about these two guys we love so much and all the creativity that gets poured into this fandom and this ship and these characters, the blood the sweat and the tears of it all.

So feel free to message me about anything. I try to be good about answering requests, though, I don't always have a fic that perfectly matches what you want.

I was thinking there's the findingstony blog that finds specific fic that you know exists, but maybe this would be a good place for people to submit things that they are looking for that they haven't already found. Like more general requests of tropes or plots that you want to read. Again I'll do my best to match you with something, but I'll also put them out to my followers (I don't have a ton but we'll see what the community can do).

Anyway, I'd like this to be a community to talk about all these things we love. I know I still have 2-3 unanswered asks, and I haven't forgotten them. For the person who asked for heartwrenching angst with or without a happy ending, I'm trying to decide if I want to rec you the most heart-shattering fic I have ever read. 🤔🤔🤔 (Are you open to Tony being evil?)

Anyway, does this restart mean that I may never get to some truly amazing fics at the end of the alphabet? Almost certainly. There are over 55k Stony fics on AO3. The first time I did this was a ship that had about 500 fics. I read them all in a couple months. I'm not going to complain about having too much good stuff.

But you can feel free to send in your own recs as well. Again, I'd love this to be a community, and a conversation.

Okay, well... I'm off to read. A couple of notes.

I will attempt to read every fic. There will be some that I do not finish. It might just be that it's not to my personal taste.

When I say everything, I do mean *everything*, which means that I may rec some fics that have content that you don't like. I will tag my posts accordingly. I'm not here to debate the ethics of fictional depictions of fictional characters in a fictional relationship with anyone.

I'm going to post as I go through. It's just easier for me that way. Also this way you can literally see my journey, lol. Posts will be scheduled for Saturdays, one post per week, unless my drafts start to get really full, in which case I'll bump it up to two posts per week.

Sometimes I may open a fic and save it in an open tag if I'm not in the right headspace for it, or if I want to read it but I'm not connecting with it at the moment. Or, if it's a really long fic, sometimes I'll intersperse other shorter fics in between chapters. So just because I skip a fic doesn't mean I didn't like it, or I thought it was bad.

Though I will give everything a shot, in general, kid fic is just not my thing, so you're unlikely to see many recs with that topic. But feel free to send in your own fic recs if there's something you really love. I'm sure others would love it as well.

I also generally tend to be not a fan of kink involving bodily fluids other than spit, sweat and semen, but I will give them a chance. Just don't expect a lot of recs for those. Also I'm not really a fan of age play. It's just not my thing.

The only hard pass for me is anything that tries to villainize Steve for MCU Civil War. That's a hard no for me.

I think Stony was a slow slide for me--I resisted a lot at first and came to Marvel by way of a few other ships, but a friend from another fandom @yodas-yo-yo suggested Open Field in Front of Him and it was the best characterization of Steve I'd ever seen. Between that fic and @pineapplebread art--specifically the Tattaoo AU, and her silver fox Steve series, I got hooked into writing it.

And then I just....didn't stop.

I do love Tony with other folks--Rhodey is always a fav for me, and poly pairings as well so occassionally I'll throw something of that vein out--but I find I really enjoy writing Stevetony and don't really expect to branch into other ships right now.

Of course, one day I might find a new obsession, and stop writing Stevetony--I have a pretty long history of fandom hopping--so I guess we'll see. For now, I'm here and happy. :)

I'm not sure if I read about this fic on your blog but since you are reccing so many fics this year, there is a good chance that I did hear abotu this fic through you blog but I've nit found it yet. Maybe you can help me?

What I remember about the story:

It's more like a dark steve rogers fic but he's called Commander in this fic. He's sort of a dictator? in the world he comes from. Everyone is kinda afraid of him. (I also think he has no problem killing everyone that stand in his way.)

(And he meets MCU Steve Rogers in that fic too and I'm 80% sure he kills him? Or captures him or something? He's also not a fan of Bucky or anyone that can get between him and Tony).

I just know that he loves Tony, to the point of obsessed and he's able to travel to another universe and swears to do everything to make Tony happy. (Also the not legal stuff.)

Oh, and in the end, when Tony dies of old age, Commander Steve takes his own life because he doesn't see a point to his life anymore because Tony is gone. (I'm pretty sure they are married too .)

So maybe you know what fic I'm talking about? I went through your dark fic recs but I didn't find it so maybe it was in a different category/week but I don't know which one that would fall under then.

i was wondering if you could possibly help me find a stony fanfic considering it seems like you read a lot. there’s one i read on ao3 not too long ago. i believe it involved some sort of battle & tony ended up falling sort of like bucky did & steve got a flashback. i think steve caught him but it could have been someone else. but i remember steve was holding onto tony & the other avengers had to pull him away because of the ptsd episode he was having. if you know that would be great🙏

an AO3 reminder

there’s been an uptick in “Help me find this fic” posts on AO3 and here’s a reminder that posting these is in fact a breach of the Archive’s Terms of Service (TOS)—and let’s face it: it’s annoying.

i know we’ve all been in that same boat of losing a fic, searching it for hours and even days which is a nightmare but please don’t do this (and please don’t encourage anyone by replying either) because:

it clogs the tags and works on AO3

posting it as a work is unnecessary since AO3 has a brilliant filtering system

it is against the AO3 TOS because its NOT a social media site (side note: please read the FAQ page) and if you keep doing it there’s a consequence for breaking the rules okay? (getting your account suspended probably)

what can you do instead?

1. learn how to use the AO3 search function

Searching and Browsing on Ao3

Hidden Search Operators Cheat Sheet

2. if you hate reading something that is not fanfic, then you can watch a tutorial

3. if you cant remember any significant tags or titles or even the author’s name for a search, then it’s time to reach out to your community—IN AN APPROPRIATE SPACE. Reddit, Tumblr and Discord are all excellent choices to ramble off those random details, snippets and vague scenes you can remember.

4. make use of the bookmark, mark for later and download options on AO3 when you find a perfect fic to read (instead of keeping 5000 tabs on your browser)

5. a physical notebook where you can write a fic title and author name, a google sheet where you can organize a list and even add links, list them on a notepad app on your phone—there are so many ways buddy

@findingstony! i need help finding this fic.  looking for a rape aftermath fic (mcu) where steve is mind-controlled (I want to say biologically? like a virus or a fungus or a parasite or something), keeps some of the avengers (DEFINITELY tony and nat) in avengers tower and the fic is a remembering of the events after steve has been returned to normal and a telling of the aftermath. there is no reconciliation other than steve deciding his crimes are unforgivable and estranging himself from the team, and i remember that tony and nat got the worst of it and their friendship features in it. there may be some nat POV. wanna say it’s an older fic (2012-2016) though i could be wrong. it was pretty dark and i’m kicking myself for not bookmarking it. any help appreciated.

Looking for a specific Stony fic….

I believe it’s set in 616 maybe but Steve lost his husband Tony. Like he died. Then MCU Tony (I think) suddenly shows up?? And everyone especially Steve is like WTF!!!??? and feelings abound I think? I haven’t read it besides the tags and summary but I am now in the mood to read it. D:

It’s not Second Chance because both Tonys are alive in that one.
