Montclair Film Loves ESM

We are SO honored to announce that Montclair Film’s Documentary Filmmaking Class picked East Side Mags as the subject of their most recent class project!

stopped by here and interviewed Jeff, took some B-roll footage and requested access to “historical” photos of the shop going back to 2014 (we’ve got a 10-year anniversary coming up)!

Well - the work is done and the films are complete and we’re happy to cordially invite all of our friends, family and customers to see what was produced - even Jeff hasn’t seen the films!

So we’re going in blind, excited to see the films. Each one is about 5 minutes so all 4 films will show in under 30 minutes.

The event is at Montclair Film at 505 Bloomfield Ave, Montclair, NJ 07042.

Admission is FREE and the doors open at 5:30pm so be sure to get here on time to get a good seat.

The event should end around 6:30pm at which point, anyone interested can come back to the East Side Mags (about 2 doors down the block) for light refreshments and hanging out.

We hope you’ll join us for this monumental event. We’re really honored that they thought of us and we’re excited to see what they cooked up!

this is so funny to me because i could totally see it. specifically at the second wedding in vegas with their friends.

it's really just a big party with this one because, half their rowdier friends weren't invited to the first wedding because nb parent's wouldn't allow it. they had "an image and standard to uphold" and it would be tainted by those "hooligans" showing up lol. so this was a chance for them to get to come and celebrate and it's less pressure. the first one, eddie and nb enjoyed but not really because they were so pressured to be perfect and it was so controlled by her parents, that's why the second one was done.

this one was so much more chill, casual really- well, as casual as vegas can be lol. a lot of drinking, a lot of drugs, just a fun fun time.

somewhere after the ceremony but before they disappeared (read light my morning sky for more lol) nb had got the idea to do something scandalous as a wedding gift. maybe it was bc of the way eddie reacted to their music vide where she was naked (read girls on film for more) or because he used to hang out with a lot of playboy girls... and she saw the copious amounts of dirty mags at wayne's trailer back in indiana, but she decided to do her own dirty little photo shoot. well... sorta, it was her and farrah with a polaroid camera and a dream lol. sure, eddie had a ton of nudes of hers anyway, his own little stash, but she thought this would be better. plus, it had her in her wedding garter from before, with 'mrs. munson' stitched in red on the white lace. and that's all she was wearing lol.

farrah casually dropped it off while eddie's smoking a cigar with his friends. he barely registers the photo until he sees nb's nipples on the first one and is like hold on-

they definitely leave after that. go to their private room while their friends keep partying. eddie keeps it in his safe after that. it might be his favorite gift from her ever lol.

The Last of Us Joel Miller Character Study S1E1: Living Room

Joel's sofa is so classic and cozy; cognac overstuffed leather is a solid choice, and combined with the transparent glass coffee table, very shabby chic meets West Elm. Not bad for a contractor.

I love that pillow is smashed flat. This is a family home, well lived in.

I deeply love Sarah is reading a magazine instead of playing on her phone/tablet. Very accurate fo that time. Magazines were my jam in 2003 as well. There are stacks of them around the room, and I really wish we could see some titles! I'm guessing: a teen fashion/culture mag for Sarah, a sports magazine for Joel, maybe some free contractor industry publications. Definitely Texas Monthly. Is Joel a Playboy man? Hmmm...

Dinner plate: she is used to preparing her own food and eating on her own, it seems.

Joel has gone to the Javier Peña school of lamps and afghans because there are a lot of lamps in this room! And most of them are ugly.

On This Day: July 8 2018

Sleep Token performed at the UK Tech-Metal Fest on the Winspear Stage for what is considered only their 8th ritual. At the end of this set was the live debut of Blood Sport, which would not have an official release until November 21 2019 when the album Sundowning was offered for consumption. Due to lack of sources, it is possible that Blood Sport was played previously but this is the first mention of the song the curator of this blog has found so far. Edit: Per advice from another archivist, Blood Sport was also played a month prior, at Download Fest 2018.

According to several sources, the original band slated for that event had canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. The festival then advised there was a replacement act, a "worst kept secret", as Distorted Sound Mag put it. There was hint of it on the collective's website as well as on their Twitter.

The word "வழிபாடு" used with the July 8th date is Tamil, the world's oldest spoken language, for "worship".

Saw another "Keanu is a zionist" post with no supporting evidence or citing and this annoyed me so I'm making a post about it. To preface, this is all in good faith and to educate.

Zionism is, to be put simply, the belief that Israel has a right to make their own homeland, to create a "place for all jews" by clearing out the native population and culture. As Israel is committing a genocide, it is perfectly acceptable for those supporting Israel's genocide of the Palestinian people to be labeled a zionist.

Specifically we are going to be talking about Keanu Reeves and his involvement with the zionist company Paramount, who expressed their explicit support of Israel and has not issued another statement changing their stance as far as I am aware. I will also be adding film making information as needed.

To start off, we only know of two examples of Reeves interacting with people who have a connection to Israel. He has not stated his stance on any social or political movement, full stop. The first of two such instances is his weapons trainer for John Wick 2, who was hired by the producers specifically. And the second is his attending of a party in 2014 by producer Arnon Milchan, who you may know from movies like; Fight Club, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, the Chipmunks sequels, and more. At this party Reeves was photographed speaking to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. [image description in alt]

This photo is the only information we have on this party and their interactions. Here is an article gossip mag MalibuTimes released on it. This article also goes to say that Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife made sure to interact with multiple actors- in fact the photo they used for this article is them posing with James Caan.

Seeing as this appears to be their only known interaction and Reeves has been photographed candid and not posed, it is a fair assumption to say they aren't friends catching up. On the film/actor side of things, parties like this are a fantastic way to network within the industry. Arnon Milchan is a well known name in producing movies with a long history and it would not be a smart move to decline or spur his invitation.

Now back to Paramount and Sonic 3, as is our main discussion. Paramount this last October in response to the Oct. 7th bombing announced that they stand with and support Israel.

As you should know by now, six months later, Israel has far gone past "defending itself" as some may claim it has a right to do, and firmly and undeniably into genocide. In this time Paramount has doubled down on their support, donating large sums of money to Israeli based charities and military. In their new Sonic spin off series, Knuckles, one of the human characters openly supports Israel and practices a form of martial arts invented by the Israeli armed forces.

When it comes to Sonic 3 and staff and cast involvement, a little more context is needed. Filmmaking takes a long time and a lot of hard work. The script needs to be written before the cast can audition and then rehearsals, prop design, set and location set up, rigging and prepping Sonic character stand ins for their CGI coverups, and more all need to be done before filming can ever start. According to Collider this last summer Sonic 3 was set to start filming in August of 2023; meaning that cast had been hired months before that. Contracts for movies from big studios like Paramount or Disney often include Non Disclosure Agreements so that staff members wont leak anything before its ready and/or a legally binding punishment should a leak happen. We only found out Reeves is playing Shadow the Hedgehog this last week, and filming has completed earlier this month according to ScreenRant who cited James Marsden for that confirmation. Meaning that Keanu has been done for a little while now, if he was only in booth voice acting rather than some combination of on set and in booth. Depending on the NDA the agreement can last for years, according to BrewerLog Attorney's Office the average amount of time a NDA lasts is 1-5 years and depends heavily on what is outlined and what information the business in question wants to be kept secret.

Reeves nor his PR team has yet (as of 4/28/24) to make any statement regarding his role of Shadow the Hedgehog in the upcoming film, but that's the norm for him. Keanu Reeves rather rarely does interviews or public outspeak; he doesn't even make a statement or announce when donating or setting up regular funding to charities in the past.

To wrap things up there simply isn't enough to say Keanu is a zionist. Circumstantial at best, and heavily assumptionist and bad faith at worst. If in the future there is confirmation that Keanu purposefully or willingly sides, supports, or is politically aligned with anything to do with Israel and their genocide of the Palestinian people and their destruction of Gaza Strip then I will absolutely change my tune here. But there's ACTUAL people who are vocal about their support of genocide who I see get no negative feedback. Jerry Seinfeld openly support and even donates to Israel- why say nothing about him? Or Gal Godou. I have literally seen zero posts about either of them.

Lost but together

I keep thinking of how Viggo said in that interview about being lost in the woods: "I just want to show you where you've never been. I just want to show you this beautiful rainforest". Doesn't that sound terribly romantic? It's like he wanted to give Orlando this precious gift. Viggo had obviously been to this amazing spot before, immediately thought of Orlando, wanting to share this gem with him. Viggo has said a lot how he liked getting away on his own while filming, to get some Viggo-time. But apparently, this time, being alone wasn't enough. There's something so awfully lovely about this sentiment.

And here are some new-for-me tidbits from Viggo concerning this "lost in the rainforest with I-don't-know-who/alone/a friend/oh turns out he was with Orlando" story.

I liked especially getting lost on the west coast (south island) rainforest and stumbling through/fishing/sleeping and swimming in parts of Mt Aspiring, Fiordland, the mountains of Canterbury, the northland coast etc… Sometimes, particularly on the south island, I was reminded of Argentina and Patagonia in particular, and Chile. --- I took pictures of this incredible land. I once got lost in the forest - it was getting darker and darker, I thought I knew where the path to the coast was, but with no daylight I got lost and wandered around for two days. Of course I was stupid enough not to take a torch with me. The only light I had was the flash on my camera. I used it as a lamp and inadvertently took some excellent, unusual photos.

First, seems getting lost in the rainforest with Orlando was one of Viggo's favourite moments in NZ. A beautiful place, beautiful company, what's not to love? It really turned into a magical moment for them.

I love that he also particularly mentions "Canterbury". Of course, NZ is riddled with places named after British towns etc, but it's just one of those "coincidences" that Viggo just happens to mention a place with the same name as Orlando's birthplace.

And in the 2nd quote, Viggo claims he was lost (all alone this time, poor chap) for TWO DAYS! Good lord. Well, fine, if they went out on their seemingly impromptu hike at lunchtime one day and were back at lunch the next, I guess that could be maybe counted as two days? Nevermind that it was only 14 hours... Two days should be perhaps at least more than 24 hours, you'd think. Still, they were out there for a LONG time. Just the two of them. Lost, but together.

Oh, how I love this fairytale. I wish someone would ask Orlando about his experience one day. We should prepare a carefully worded question which he could answer without forcing him to mention Viggo, unless he want to. Obviously, it made a lasting impression on Viggo, an experienced guy. So I can imagine it must have been the same for Orlando. Life changing, terrifying, romantic and just... wonderful.

(I'm trying to find the magazine where it was revealed that it was Orlando who was Viggo's companion on this adventure. I've been looking everywhere, but can't find a scan, all old sources are gone. Does anyone reading this have it? It's from the Austrian mag Skip das kinomagazin, April 2005.)

I never saw the top photo until now! How precious! I think the person who chose the photo for the mag must have wanted to show off Izzy's package or something. They were just so impressed with what they saw and captured on film. Evidently this person liked Izzy very much - was a fan - and wanted to do Izzy (and us) a favor. Thank you, both talented and kind photographer.

oooohhhhhh the Kodak books bring back such memories T_T My dad was self-taught, spent decades on classes, meetings, books, magazines, building his own darkroom, slowly acquiring equipment... and lost it all in a (completely unpredictable) flash flood. 30+ years of resource-gathering like a particularly industrious squirrel, literally washed away. I would inside the cupboard he kept the books and mags in, staring at the pretty pictures for hours. Hated having my photo taken though, and it shows!

That's really sad! I can somewhat relate- my baby pictures were ruined in a flood when I was little.

I tried dark room when I was in college, but I was not great at winding film, so the developers didn't contact fully. LOVED doing stuff with the magnifiers, though! The burn and dodge and playing with actual film was fun.

I'm coming to realize most people don't like getting their photos taken. You should see my school photos- they were pretty awful.

... my gods, I've turned into a gossip columnist. 😏

All joking aside... there's really not much to tell. Glen, Gigi, and Sydney all kept it out of the public eye. Lots and lots of gossip magazines went nuts, so did fan speculation. I think it was later addressed, eventually, with very vague interviews that only stated something along the lines of "It just didn't work out" and Sydney insisting that she and Glen were only really good friends (that and she was happily engaged, with her fiancé being right there as a producer as they filmed).

As I said, the gossip mags and tabloids made a lot about it.

Whenever Glen and Sydney weren't filming on set, they took tours and trips around Australia. They went to local Sydney (as in Australia, not the actress) sites, Taronga Zoo, and even the Sydney Swans locker room.

There was a behind-the-scenes clip of Sydney on Glen's lap that apparently sent fans into a tizzy.

What's interesting--and noted by many--is that when a lot of those couple-y photos of Glen and Sydney came out, Gigi came to visit Glen in Australia. And he greeted her with flowers.

Anyway, back in April 2023, rumors of affairs stirred up when someone noted that Glen's then-girlfriend, Gigi Paris, unfollowed him and Sydney on social media.

That happened right after Glen and Sydney finished filming Anyone But You.

To many a fan, that meant that was confirmation of an affair. That and Gigi's "break-up" IG post, which was cryptic as heck but also very pointed to anyone who could read between the lines.

Gigi and Glen had been dating since 2020. They had a ton of cute photos on Instagram (both of theirs) and in public. But roughly around the time of filming wrapping up, Gigi and Glen hadn't been seen together since she came over during filming.

Sydney and Glen were also incredibly flirty during the press tour. When they appeared at the 2023 CinemaCon. During an exchange, Glen joked that the actors love to see themselves on screen, and Sydeny responded with, "Oh please, Top Gun."

Glen replied with "I love when she calls me that."

Eventually, June of 2023, Sydney said the supposed affair was just good acting. She claimed that the photos they saw were all of them on set, in character.

While social media and gossip magazines and paparazzi fanned the flames, Glen admitted the intense speculation took a toll. During an interview with Men's Health in November 2023, he admitted, "When all that stuff happened, you know, publicly, it felt disorienting and unfair. But what I'm realizing is that's just a part of this gig now."

He spoke about it six months after Sydney addressed the rumors.

Of course, Sydney fans were puzzled: wasn't she engaged? Yes… yes she was. And still is.

Sydney became engaged to her long-term partner, restaurateur Jonathan Davino, in February of 2022. When she guest hosted SNL in March of this year, she confirmed that she was in fact still engaged with him, and he was on-set for the entirety of Anyone But You. (They co-produced via her production company, Fifty-Fifty.)

Glen made a special appearance on SNL in the audience, and during Sydney's monologue, the camera zoomed onto him instead of her fiancé. A lot of folks found it funny. I found it cringe-worthy. (Link to her monologue.)

Thankfully the rumors began to die down, though there were smatterings of gossip about Jonathan being seen without his ring and "moving" out of Sydney's place. But that too died down.

Meanwhile, Glen's been busy with a number of movies--Hit Man, Twisters, and apparently working on a mini-series (I think) about Chad Powers.

I do remember Glen talking about how finding love is hard when he's constantly working. There's aspects of the industry that makes it hard to have a relationship, especially when they're on the go. He said, in an CBS Mornings interview:

“This is a time where life is moving so fast that I don’t even know if I could bring someone into it … in a healthy way, even if I tried,” the Twisters star explained.

“If love comes and hits me in the face and knocks me over, I welcome it with open arms because that’s something I really want,” Powell said, noting that he wants a family and kids. "At the same time, I realize that it’s going to take a very specific type of person to navigate this. It’s a lot.”

For now, Glen has his adorable dog, Brisket, to keep him company.

Just finished listening to the first episode and WOW okay. It was SO GOOD and I was having an absolute ball, taking all my silly notes. And so, I have a handful of thoughts. Obviously there are spoilers. Please reply with your own thoughts as well if you wanna add on :)

Firstly, I adore Alice and Sam, am intrigued by Collin and Gwen, and really curious about Teddy. Why is he leaving?

Talking computer. Three distinct voices, and three specific people were there when the world un-ended in MAG 200. Jon and Martin ofc. And Jonah. Could that be who the third voice "is?" Are these text to speech voices Jon and Martin's spirit, or is it just Jonny and Alex reading it and it's not that significant (it's definitely significant). Interesting...

Statements: I'm not sure what to make of the first of the two statements that was read out just yet. Not sure what the deal is with the reanimation/zombie or what its/the people involved's significance is, but I'm not gonna disregard it as "just spooky." Learned my lesson the first time listening to TMA.

Obviously the second statement stands out more because it's about the Institute. We know that the Institute burned down 20 years ago. We know that it's located in Manchester now. We know that it's been marked as "cleared" on an urban spelunking blog or whatever, which kinda discourages people from exploring it right, and people who go there leave feeling unwell and paranoid.

Weird that all the files were just gone. Did someone take them or were they just kind of ~removed from existence~ after the whole MAG 200 stuff? And if somebody did take them, who? Why?

And then there were the gross stains. Saw someone on here say WORMS, but my first thought was blood. Worms makes a lot of sense.

Finally, strange wooden box with strange markings. My mind immediately went to the box that sits at the centre of the Web Table. Could be something else entirely. But it can't be photographed. Well, nothing from the Institute could be photographed (maybe it could by film camera instead?) And oh of course, the only photos that could be uploaded were gory photos of eyes. Did the eyes belong to anyone in particular? My first thought was they were Jonah's, but maybe it's not of anyone in particular. Or maybe it is.

Those are all of my thoughts. Please add on with any other details/ideas/theories! I'm sure to give this episode another listen before next week. Gosh, it makes me want to go back and give TMA another re listen but I really, truly do not have time for that.

He was telling people before they went public he was single and you do realize they fudged the timeline of dating for a year right. Casually seeing each other and in a committed relationship are 2 different things. 😉There are holes in the ‘living together for a year�� story which are easy to track especially when she was filming in Canada for a start. Nothing was exclusive about these 2 before October 2022.Yes I have proof.
