Resource: Fiber Spider
First creator highlight of the year! Today I'm going to tell you about Fiber Spider, a crocheter on YouTube. Fiber Spider is actually the first person I learned an actual pattern from. I had made hats before - hats I did not wear and finally brought myself to frog. But his step-by-step tutorial, which he personally narrated with his charmingly soft voice allowed me to create this beautiful waffle stitch hat:

(while my hat looks a little off, I take full responsibility, having made it as a novice, and not fully understanding pattern language)
This hat, as of the time this picture was taken, has seen a few winters already, and has been through a washer and dryer a few times still coming out strong.
Fiber Spider showcases and teaches stitches, patterns, and various other crafts, like origami and baking. Mainly his channel includes tutorials for blankets and shawls. He has a Ravelry page as well.
He also narrates books! Currently he's reading the stories of L. Frank Baum (author of The Wizard of Oz).
Beyond all of that, he shares tutorials for boardgames, so if you're an indoors-hobbies person, Fiber Spider might be your guide.

A chunky crochet shawl as a birthday gift for my friend!! I made the orange part during her birthday party, since because I don’t drink I always end up bringing an Activity to things like that hehe. I LOVE how all these colours ended up looking together, with the little bits of purple throughout :D
Pattern: For the purple and orange part I used the ‘eyelet shawl’ by ‘Hooked By Robin’, then switched to the ‘cloister shell shawl’ from ‘Fiber Spider’ for the blue (with a bit of fudging to phase them into each other).
Yarn: all the yarns are ‘James C Brett Marble Chunky’. The purple (MC49) is the final leftovers from this cardigan, and the orange (MC91) is from this mermaid tail from forever ago!! Felt great to finally use it up. I finished it off with the blue (MC32) which I still have a ton of, so expect to see it again!!

It’s motherflippin’ poncho time y’all
I am going to make so many ponchos
Or maybe I’ll just make one and that’s all I’ll need but I suspect I’m going to need them in so many colors
Anyway if you crochet and want to learn the art of the poncho Fiber Spider’s tutorial is SO EASY!

Love spiders!
I've been working on these little Valentine's day spiders for a little while now. They're crocheted with an extremely soft chenille yarn, and they're extremely squishable! They're about 6" long each, and no two are exactly alike!
They come at a discount if you buy them in pairs! Original pattern is courtesy of Bedabee.
Find your own here!

Spider-Punk cardigan is done! I stopped and started a lot during the process, but it ended up taking about 2.5 weeks from start to finish.

Inspired by Spider-Man, researchers recreate web-slinging technology
Every kid who has read a comic book or watched a Spider-Man movie has tried to imagine what it would be like to shoot a web from their wrist, fly over streets, and pin down villains. Researchers at Tufts University took those imaginary scenes seriously and created the first web-slinging technology in which a fluid material can shoot from a needle, immediately solidify as a string, and adhere to and lift objects. The study is published in the journal Advanced Functional Materials. These sticky fibers, created at the Tufts University Silklab, come from silk moth cocoons, which are boiled in solution and broken down into their building block proteins called fibroin. The silk fibroin solution can be extruded through narrow bore needles to form a stream that, with the right additives, solidifies into a fiber when exposed to air.

From the same commission in December as the lobster, the client requested Hobie Brown aka Spider-Punk from Across the Spider-Verse. He has so many details that I spend hours working on, plus a hand painted (by my partner) 3D printed guitar.

Jumping Spider!
I'm not a spider person, at all. But jumping spiders? They so cute! They look like little anime characters with their big eyes and furry legs.
This pattern is one of four patterns coming at you this October to celebrate spooky season! It's only $6 bucks to join my patreon (or $9 if you really like what I do), and I will overload you with patterns and community! made with red heart super saver (probably) it took like. a year. bc I got mad after the face was lopsided and the legs were too fiddly
so I quit for a year, frogged the legs I worked with sc itr last week, and did these rubber hose hdc legs instead 🤣
Tumblr media
I was mostly focused on getting the markings right tho so I'm happy with it. and the person who it was for loved it so win win!!
