I recently found out most of my family has been questioning my pain for a long time. My great aunt had called my mom a while back and actually CRIED because my toxic aunt told her that I am not ill and I don't have pain, but that her sister has it so much worse than I do and can be excused from being here to comfort my grandmother during her mourning.
As well as others in my family because they see me not using my cane all the time. The thing is I have so much joint pain anymore it hurts to hold onto the cane to help me walk, so if I'm home or in someone else's house where there is ample places to sit down if needed, I'm not using it. It upsets my great aunt because she has seen me cry in pain and she has been on the phone with mom while hearing me cry as my mom rubbed pain cream on my back.
Sometimes I imagine what people would say if they could physically see the issues. If they could see redness from the pain I feel inside, the could see the bone spurs stabbing and the degenerative disc disease. The havoc on my colon from crohns and the pain in my uterus from an unknown reason. The migraines I get and the burning nerve pain that spreads across my legs and back. Would they even apologize? Would they even feel bad? I can almost hear the condescending tone now.
I personally don't care what they think or say, I know what's wrong with me (chromic pain wise at least). I feel bad for the people on my side who want to defend me, but can't tell the others how it feels because they don't completely know. It sucks there are people out there so bent on making people with chronic pain feel so guilty about something we can't control, just because they don't believe in it. I had one family member hug me recently and they did it too rough and I hissed and said "gently please" and they responded "I barely touched you, I thought you were getting better?" "No, just management. This won't get better, ever" and it blew their minds that there isn't something that will help. Then their husband asked me "is it contagious?" Umm...no? Who makes these people? Those are the people who need to be followed and randomly punched through the day and as the pain subsides from that punch, BAM, ANOTHER ONE. ALL...DAY.
It's just infuriating and completely unfair.

The insulin news is a great way to check to see how many people look for more information and how many people just say things online
(The patient treated was Type 1, however it was a singular patient so it needs much more testing and peer review before it can be considered a cure, and I have no idea if the treatment required use of immunosuppressants, basically it’s ‘promising’)
People really shouldn’t get their medical news from headlines; lest anyone forgot, that’s how we got anti-vaxxers

When you're naturally starting to lose weight at a natural pace because of hormones finally balancing out due to medication and the doc wants you to go on a restrictive diet to lose weight faster by cutting out ripe bananas. Sorry doc, I'll follow some of this, but nah. I'd rather die at 60 happy and eating my daily banana than live to 80 by following a restrictive diet that will cause me to yo-yo weight and develop eating disorders that I'm prone to anyway and be miserable

Building Muscle
Different types of cells pattern our tissues, each decorated by the thousands of genes and proteins inside them. Transcription factors shape these patterns, helping to switch on sets of distinctive genes in different cells at different times. In these chunks of mouse leg muscle, for example, transcriptions factors like MAF help to create a mosaic of muscle fibres. Coloured stains highlight different type II fibres in red and green in the normal muscle on the left. Investigating further, researchers alter the pattern by removing a version of MAF – changing the balance of fibres (seen on the right). Our own muscles adapt to our lifestyle, changing the makeup of their fibres with the help of transcription factors. Learning more about these and the role of age and diet may help us to maintain healthy muscles for longer, fending off diseases like diabetes and muscular dystrophy.

UNDERSTANDING THE LINK BETWEEN DIABETES AND FATIGUE
Diabetes, a long-term metabolic condition marked by elevated blood sugar levels, impacts millions globally. One common yet often overlooked symptom of diabetes is fatigue. This article delves into the relationship between diabetes and tiredness, exploring the underlying causes, potential complications, and management strategies.
The Connection Between Diabetes and Fatigue
Fatigue is a prevalent symptom among individuals with diabetes. It can be caused by various factors directly or indirectly related to the disease. Understanding these factors is crucial for managing fatigue effectively.
1. Blood Sugar Imbalances
One of the primary reasons diabetes can cause fatigue is due to fluctuations in blood sugar levels. Both hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) can lead to feelings of tiredness.
Hyperglycemia: When blood sugar levels are too high, the body's cells cannot efficiently absorb glucose, the primary energy source. This lack of energy can cause persistent fatigue.
Hypoglycemia: Conversely, low blood sugar levels can deprive the body of necessary fuel, leading to weakness and exhaustion.
2. Insulin Resistance
In type 2 diabetes, the body becomes resistant to insulin, the hormone responsible for regulating blood sugar levels. This resistance means that even though insulin is present, glucose cannot enter the cells effectively, resulting in a lack of energy and subsequent fatigue.
3. Sleep Disruptions
Diabetes can also interfere with sleep, contributing to tiredness. Conditions such as sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, and frequent urination at night (nocturia) are common among people with diabetes and can disrupt sleep patterns, leading to daytime fatigue.
4. Dehydration
Elevated blood sugar levels can increase urination as the kidneys work harder to expel excess glucose. This process can result in dehydration, which can cause tiredness and weakness.
5. Psychological Factors
The mental and emotional toll of managing diabetes can be significant. The constant monitoring of blood sugar levels, managing dietary restrictions, and coping with the potential complications of diabetes can lead to mental fatigue. Depression and anxiety, which are more prevalent among individuals with diabetes, can also contribute to feelings of tiredness.
Managing Fatigue in Diabetes
Effective management of diabetes-related fatigue involves addressing its underlying causes. Here are some strategies to consider:
1. Blood Sugar Management
Maintaining stable blood sugar levels is crucial for reducing fatigue. Regular monitoring, adhering to prescribed medication, and following a balanced diet can help keep blood sugar levels within the target range. Incorporating complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, and healthy fats into meals can provide sustained energy.

Tumblr media
2. Physical Activity
Engaging in regular physical activity can improve energy levels and overall well-being. Exercise helps regulate blood sugar levels, enhances insulin sensitivity, and promotes better sleep. Always seek advice from a healthcare professional before beginning any exercise program to ensure it is safe and suitable for your condition.
3. Hydration
Staying well-hydrated is vital for preventing fatigue. Drinking adequate water throughout the day can help mitigate the effects of dehydration caused by high blood sugar levels.
4. Sleep Hygiene
Improving sleep quality is another critical aspect of managing diabetes-related fatigue. Establishing a consistent sleep schedule, creating a relaxing bedtime routine, and addressing any sleep disorders can contribute to better rest and reduced tiredness.
5. Psychological Support
Seeking psychological support can help manage the emotional burden of diabetes. Counselling, support groups, and stress-reduction techniques such as mindfulness and meditation can be beneficial in reducing mental fatigue.
Conclusion
Fatigue is a common symptom experienced by individuals with diabetes, stemming from various physiological and psychological factors. Understanding the connection between diabetes and tiredness is essential for effective management. By maintaining stable blood sugar levels, engaging in regular physical activity, staying hydrated, improving sleep quality, and seeking psychological support, individuals with diabetes can alleviate fatigue and enhance their overall quality of life.
