Happy FFXV 8th Anniversary Art compilation (2/2)!! Once again inspired by this Lovely Post which enabled me I'm realizing as of this second post that I'm living back in like, 2022 when the post limit was 10 xD BUT YA KNOW WHAT i'm okay with that HAHAHAHA I'm so freaking proud of that first image? Its rare that I manage to actually draw all the available dynamics I want to, the fact that I managed it (despite as you can see, not finishing the shading HAHA) is wild and really cool to me. The forehead kiss was from a Comfortember I never finished! (or honestly got that far in HAHAHA i had two images) And in the middle, the Ignis and Gladio are from different years (2023 for Ignis and 2021 for Gladio) when I tried to draw on their birthdays, but Ran out of steam. Also i'm still so proud of that Prompto comic SLDKFJLKJASDFLSDFDS

I gasped when Richter said this. Him begging for the one he loves to be spared at the cost of potentially the entire fucking world- not only because his love for Annette was so moving,

I was rewatching Kingsglaive again and I really wish there was a special FFXV edition that came with that movie. It's just so perfect and helps give so much context to what we see main game.

One of the parts that hit the hardest though was when Regis, Luna and Nyx are running and Regis lets go of Luna's hand. That perfect moment of him stopping and accepting his fate, knowing he has to stay is so very similar to what happened when Regis was escaping with little Noctis and young Luna.

It was just so beautifully done.

edit: because apparently it needs to be said. despite this being a more critical post, it is NOT an invitation for you to share why you think Noctis/Luna don't make sense to YOU. don't be rude and make your own post about that instead. if you couldn't tell, I absolutely do ship these two and would rather not see your contrary thoughts (I saw enough of that back in 2016-18).

the romance in ffxv would "make more sense" if it was written or read as josei (you guys the tropes are there)

but that would require 1) sqex writers to invest more effort into fleshing out and showing romantic relationships onscreen. this includes writing female characters (or other genders, it's just thus far the main romances in ff have been m/f) as more than an afterthought, a guiding motivation or quiet support for the main character. that is, give them their own motivations and full character arc, show their journey (literal and figurative!!) or pivotal parts of it on screen, and for gods sake don't write them into contrived situations that ignore logic (i.e. the characters' mindset and abilities) and only serve to push the plot along

and 2) players to view the characters' relationships from a perspective other than their own for once, i.e. disengage with one's own irl preferences or morals and consider the mindset of the characters involved - why would they be romantically interested in the other character(s)

(ffx still is the best written ff romance imo. it doesn't overpower the narrative but it is strongly intertwined nearly every step of the way. it invites the audience along for the ride, but it's actually more grounded, more normal than epic despite the stakes. most importantly it is satisfying for many players, y'know bc yuna and tidus are both major characters, protagonists who are never sidelined in their own game)

p.s. epistolary romances are great; try reading some! (yes ffxv could have, should have included actual personal letters between noctis and luna. at least dotf tries to amend that, but i don't really buy that they never EVER sent each other long drawn out and/or embarrassingly personal letters they regretted sending until they received a reply that nearly made them weep with relief)

p.p.s i am the #1 advocator for "they should've showed us more of luna's journey (or let us play as her!!)" and "luna should've joined the party" and "noctis and luna should've interacted more (on screen)"

So let's just recap:

Our main character was havin some head owies so we go to use some binoculars and look at the location of his divine madness and then an extremely shady gentleman shows up, quotes nursery rhymes at us, and asks us to follow him to a secondary location, which we do, and it's the resting place of god, who tries to kill us, (oh btw your dead girlfriend is alive) and Gladio decides the best time to vent his vocational frustrations is right after throwing himself off an eighty foot cliff, and then the military shows up, and we break gods arm, and then procede to (under duress) follow said shady man to a tertiary location, where he proceeds to drop us off at summer camp and steal our car.

And then GODS RECEPTIONIST shows up amd goes btw talk to my bosses. Also your girlfriend's alive and you should go touch these weird rocks. Have a dog.

And this all happens in less than thirty minutes.

Happy (late) FFXV 8th anniversary!! I felt WONDROUSLY enabled by This post to post a bunch of Old FFXV art I've never posted before (at least not that I remember) All of this stuff is several years old now, I made a lot of my FFXV art in the range between 2019-2021, but I'm genuinely still very proud of all of these. Goes to show how feelings change, cause I remember a time when I was embarrassed/ashamed of many of them, but now I just see how much effort I put into all of them :) I actually have so much that this is going to be post (1/2) HA! Happy Anniversary everybody, remember to walk tall. <3
