I feel bad for Sephiroth a lot but I also pity Lucrecia too. What she did was clearly wrong, but at least she admits it and feels deep remorse for it. She regrets what she did to her own flesh and blood and how severely her actions affected everyone around her. That's why she tried to kill herself. When the JENOVA cells prevented her from ending her own life, she locked herself away in a self-made prison for eternity. It was to atone for the unforgivable sin she committed to not only her child, but to everyone else throughout the entire world.

So okay idk if this has been done before but, I came up with this headcanon that Lucrecia’s theme was based off of a song and melody she loved. An old traditional lullaby (hence why it’s all whimsical). And she used to sing/hum it all the time, ESPECIALLY when she was pregnant. She would just look at the ultrasound and sing this little song. It was one of the ways she bonded with her baby.

Some odd 20 years later, Sephiroth walks around sometimes humming a little melody (the only one he can hum without struggling to remember) and he doesn’t know where it came from or what it is. But it’s just soothing….and achingly familiar.

Sephiroth hums it while doing his nightly paperwork or whenever he's thinking wistfully to himself. He always does it unconsciously, but the lingering sensation is always that of vague anguish, longing. Like being half of a whole person. Torn in two. Feeling incomplete. Something is...missing.

Genesis once asks him where that song is from. Sephiroth blinks and mumbles that he doesn't really know. It just comes to him sometimes...
