Somewhere in the deep depths of my brain exists an old concept for a ff15 oneshot au based around the fact that they both share a plot that kind of oriented itself around a prophecy, the main character, and a certain celestial object

You know what, I respect your fear
I had an intense trauma from the Guardians in Breath of the Wild. They do a shitton of damage and oneshot you pretty much halfway through the game until you have enough hearts to just tank them
You can run from them, but they are fast as fuck, boye and they have spongy HP bars
Every time I heard their ominous music, that starts playing when they spot and target you, start playing, my pulse would go up
I've sinced conquered my fear by murdering every single Guardian in the game, but there were times when I couldn't even listen to the music outside of the game without feeling fear
Sometimes video games just give you PTSD as a treat
thank you for your understanding.
AND HELP. OMINOUS AS FUCK. i did hear so many horror stories about those guardians....
I feel you tho. I do have a lot of this type of bosses in mind in term of suffering. Like in the end it's not even the Final Boss that scares you as much as "early boss that will one shot you because you need first to escape them before attempting to fight them".
in the original ff7 i think the best example of that is the Midgardsormr. There's a whole bit where you have to stealth while it tries to catch you and if it catches you it kills you super fight. All set up for how, when you finally manage to stealth past it, you can see a Midgardsormr's corpse left behind by Sephiroth, before you officially see him outside of a flashback for the first time. Oh OG's buildup for Sephiroth my beloved.
Tumblr media
but if you come back to them in late game you can actually fight them. but at least in a turn by turn rpg you don't feel as threatened.
but i remember running into this bitch in ff15 and genuinely be scared for my life.
*coughs*
So yeah i definitely feel you on that, completely
but i think the Tonberries are especially funny because let's admit it..... it's humiliating to die by those bitches hands. They're small. They're slow as fuck. The first time you meet one you go in with the overconfidence of being like, i could defeat Gods before you, so obviously this is going to be fast. But no. It doesn't matter if you managed to singlehandedly take down Bahamut without getting any damages. Those bitches will make you regret your lifechoices leading you up to that point.
And it's especially that that makes those so fun (and scary). Because you always meet them after you've killed some Gods already. Like i was bleeding dry against Leviathan just a few hours ago, but at least it tracked that this god would be that painful. I still used more revive on the Tonberry than i did when i fought Leviathan. This is the thing that fucks anyone up about those bitches.
but yeah, Crisis Core was really the thing that made me terrified for life. You run into them into late games, hell, i think you even run into them after the Sephiroth fight. And yet you'll still struggle. And you're alone. And the gacha i'm refering to is that when you fight, Zack has a sort of slot machine on the corner that can summon the memories of a friend to help him through the fight. And the whole time you can see the slot machine roll in the corner. And it can make or unmake a fight for you. You pray Aerith may appear in the slot because she gives you all your health back. Or your pray for any of the hard hitter like Sephiroth to appear to save you. But then you get to watch the slot machine ruthlessly refuse to summon one of your allies while you get stabbed to death by a gang of those fuckers while you're alone in a cave. you'll never be good enough to one shot them, so you will always live in fear.
Bahamut has nothing on this bitch.
so yeah. it's. it's a mess.

Prompto seemed very excited to be in the Halloween festival, judging by how he skipped around like a child and couldn’t keep the grin off his face. But I knew it wouldn’t last long, he was a scaredy-cat like myself.
I wasn’t worried about Gladio and Ignis at all, though. Perhaps Ignis would jolt up in startle every now and then, but Gladio wouldn’t even blink.
About Noctis… I didn’t really know what to expect. He seemed somewhat enthused, and I knew he enjoyed Halloween.
I would probably be the worst one of all. I startled easily and the jumpscares would definitely get me. But I was still very excited, Halloween was so cool and fun! Especially if I was spending the day in there with my friends!
Even though the place was filled with people in costume, prepared to scare us even before we got to the haunted houses. They were part of the festival and I noticed they would startle the people passing by.
To be honest, I felt on edge because I expected them to scare me at any moment.
“Why did we have to come here during the evening?” I asked them as we made our way to the main attraction of the festival.
“To get in the mood” Noctis grinned in amusement, letting his eyes wander to let the Halloween spirit sink in.
“Why? Someone’s scared?” Gladio chimed in with a smug smirk.
“Me? Not at all” I huffed, brushing it off. “How bad can it be?”
“Exactly” Ignis calmly adjusted his glasses, apparently neutral to the whole thing. “You don’t seem frightened at all”
I glared at him, just to be defeated by the soft expression he dedicated me next.
“Let’s go already” I rolled my eyes at them, knowing how much they would tease me that day.
“Way ahead of you” Apparently nonchalant about it, Noctis leaded the way.
“C’mon, Y/N!” Prompto eagerly linked his arm with mine. “Halloween festival!”
I sighed and followed in compliance, trying to enjoy the spookiness instead of letting it make me jittery.
_
The first haunted house was completely dark, as expected, except for the flashing lights that sometimes had a reddish hint. There was dramatic music loudly blasting through the rooms that made me feel tense, contributing to the suspenseful mood.
My friends walked with me, and only Prompto seemed to jump at the scares that lunged at us. Noctis did too, but he wasn’t nearly as loud as our blond friend and definitely tried to hide it more.
The other two just followed us calmly, not being too affected by it at all. Except for the fact that Gladio had a laugh whenever one of us got scared.
We advanced cautiously, the three of us –Prom, Noct and I –linking arms and going together. It seemed like we were safe from jumpscares at that moment when…
AAAAAAH!
A man carrying a chainsaw jumped at me, making me squeal loudly in cringe.
Prompto screamed next to my ear, pulling at my arm as he backed away from him. Noctis gasped lowly and jolted up slightly. I, on the other hand, screamed at the top of my lungs and hid my face on Noctis’ shoulder.
I could not believe my ears when I heard a snicker coming from Ignis. Outraged, I slowly turned around to meet him and saw him covering his mouth with one hand.
“Are you laughing at me, Iggy?!”
“I would never!”
“I would!” Gladio patted my back as he encouraged us to keep going.
I sighed and held on to my friends as we walked further into the haunted house. The artificial sound of lightning, accompanied with the artificial lighting, made me jump and consequently made Prompto jump too
Only to be scared with the most stupid thing.
BOOO!
A little girl –allegedly creepy- who was holding a little doll had literally just shouted ‘boo!’ at us. We hadn’t really even noticed she was there.
I was the only one scared by this, apart from Prompto, who made me feel less embarrassed about being so jumpy.
After a while and many more jumpscares, we exited the first haunted house.
Noctis had jumped a little, but always cleared his throat awkwardly and pretended like it didn’t get him and he actually chuckled. Ignis did jump a couple of times, even though he got startled noiselessly. Prompto was the only one maybe worse than I was, the boy squealed at the top of his lungs, visibly jumped and clung on to whoever was closest to him at that very moment, which usually it was me. And Gladio didn’t bat an eye with every single jumpscare, but instead heartedly laughed at our misfortunes.
When we walked outside, I felt energized and a bit hyper due to the constant racing of my heart and probably the adrenaline rush. I was still jittery and nervous, but at the same time I was having a great time.
As we made our way to the next attraction, a very tall man with his face painted a deadly pale color came out of nowhere and roared in my face like a wild animal.
I flailed around like an octopus, wondering where he came from, and hid my face with my hands out of pure instinct. The guy seemed amused by my reaction, because he laughed a little before he left.
I turned around, feeling like my cheeks were burning but my heart was racing because of the scare. I was so tense, I felt like I needed a hug.
GO TO PROMPTO FOR COMFORT // GO TO NOCTIS FOR COMFORT
_
We made a pause in our spooky pilgrimage from the first haunted house to the next –avoiding scary dressed up festival workers as much as we could –to have a snack.
We bought some different and creative Halloween themed snacks and ate them while we took lots of photos and messed around some more. The festival was really big, and so we wandered around it for about half an hour.
Next, we found a stall that sold Halloween accessories and bought a couple of them since we didn’t really have any costumes and we wanted some. I bought a witch hat, Prompto bought an ugly mask that he enjoyed scaring us –or attempting to scare us –with. Gladio bought a cape and vampire teeth and Noctis put a fake knife over his head. But the best part was Ignis, as he reluctantly let Noctis convince him to wear a silver wig that made him look hilarious with his unamused expression.
As we calmly made our way around the festival, I observed Prompto.
He seemed so distracted and absent that my instinct told me it would be the perfect moment to scare him and a mischievous little voice told me to do it. After all, he was the one most affected by the spooky environment other than myself.
SCARE PROMPTO // DON’T SCARE PROMPTO
As we walked around –we couldn’t seem to find the second haunted house at first. The festival was very big, and filled with a big crowd that distracted us along with the many Halloween treats that were sold all around, including giant gummy pumpkins, caramel apples, and other treats that looked like brains, zombies and other spooky Halloween stuff.
Being alert and expecting one of the workers in costumes to scare me like they had before, I squeaked when Noctis caught up with me and appeared next to me.
“Calm down!” He complained, pushing his shoulder against mine. “It’s just me, I’m not scary!”
“She’s freaking out” Gladio observed in amusement, pointing his thumb at me as he grinned at Ignis.
“I am” I looked all around me before turning around to face the big guy. “Gladio, come here and protect me!”
“What if I don’t wanna, scaredy-cat?”
“Iggy, tell him something!”
“There is nothing to be afraid about, Y/N” My friend calmly reached out to place a hand on my shoulder.
“You’re not helping!” I complained, actually being a little silly. Especially because Gladio was cracking up again.
“I’ll protect you!” Prompto gallantly offered, sticking his chest out to appear stronger.
“Please” Gladio pushed him so hard that he nearly fell.
“If anything she’ll have to protect you, Prompto” Noctis draped an arm over his shoulders, more playful than usual.
“You did scream louder than me in there” I admitted, winking an eye at him to know we were goofing around.
“It’s supposed to be Halloween” The blond was blushing, and was averting his eyes from us. “Not pick on poor Prompto day”
I let out a guffaw and kindly patted his arm to show my fondness.
“You still want protection, Y/N?” Noctis teased me still, enjoying to fluster me.
“Yes, do you volunteer?”
“Not really…”
“It would be better if you faced your fears in order to overcome them” Ignis assured, elegantly shoving his hands on his pants pockets.
“You just want to see me suffer!” I whined, dragging my feet across the ground.
“That is preposterous, dear” I had never seen Ignis smile for so long before!
“Well, I do want to see you suffer” Gladio evilly got close to me, placing his hands on my shoulders. “So you’re going first”
I noticed that he positioned me in front of a building that definitely was another haunted house. We had found it.
“I’m not going first!” I complained, wanting to go last and be safe behind them.
Besides, I had already gone first with Noctis and Prompto in the first one!
“Are you sure about that?” Gladio teased me, creepily standing behind me to get on my nerves.
I rolled my eyes, reluctantly obliging and leading the way.
“Okay” I complied, however crossing my arms with determination. “But I can’t go alone!”
“How bad can it be, right?” Gladio teased me, using my own words.
“I guess I will protect you…” Noctis playfully yet sweetly smirked as he positioned himself next to me.
He offered me his arm with apparent reluctance, even if his eyes shone with friendliness. I clung on to his arm, and even knowing that we weren’t in actual danger and we were having fun despite being startled and jumpscared, it made me feel safer.
“Here we go” Ignis sighed, quite irritated.
I knew he wasn’t a big fan of Halloween as he found it to be a childish and silly holiday, but he was probably used to giving in to things with Noct.
Besides, he seemed to be having fun with our goofy demeanor.
We came in, with Prompto following closely, along with Gladio and then Ignis. We arrived at the second haunted house of the day.
This one felt a lot calmer, and there was no background music to set any moods. The lack of music or ambiance was far more disturbing than the flashing crimson lights or the suspenseful notes.
I was definitely more scared as we immersed ourselves in that one. Perhaps because I was still tense from the first house, or maybe it was just that it was too quiet and calm in there. Which couldn’t be good.
Two hands gently rested on my back, guiding me through that place. Gladio.
A fake skeleton suddenly jumped at us, and I was not expecting it to be starting so early. It scared the hell out of me!
What can I say, I was not prepared for the first big jumpscare already!
Seeking comfort, I instinctively curled up against who was behind me. It happened to be Ignis, who began stuttering flustered by the sudden needy attitude of mine.
“Are you alright, Y/N?” He actually worried, resting his hands warmly against my back.
“Uh…” I breathed out, trying to even my panting. “Give me a moment”
“Haven’t got all day!” Gladio said behind me, sticking his head over my shoulder.
“Why don’t you go first if you’re so brave, big guy?” I raised an eyebrow at him.
“Yeah!” Prompto supported me, actually hating to be leading the way. Even if he was hiding behind me and Noct the whole time.
“Allow me, children” Gladio gladly lead the way and left Noctis and I behind, reuniting with Prompto.
“Prompto, keep your camera ready” Noctis whispered to his friend.
“Yeah, he might actually get scared” I excitedly said, hoping I got to see it.
“It is not likely” At first I thought Ignis sounded skeptical, but then he added something else. “Yet not impossible”
“Watch and learn” Gladio said to us, smugly, as he navigated the place.
However, just when he had walked only a few steps, a clown popped out of his hiding place and planted himself a mere centimeters away from Gladio’s face.
Our friend yelped. Gladio actually got startled! He even lifted his fists up in a fighting stance, out of instinct! It was hilarious! I thought nothing could perturb his stoic and fearless demeanor!
That would be a fun haunted house!
_
When I was calmly walking down the street, trying to recover from the tension and jitteriness from the second haunted house, something made me jump out of my skin.
Gladio’s voice had whispered a ‘boo!’ at me while he slapped his arms on my back. The scream that followed earned a loud guffaw from his part.
Fuming mad, I turned around to be face to face with him.
“Gotcha real good there” My friend smugly grinned at me.
Maybe I should tease him to get some revenge.
GET REVENGE ON GLADIO // DON’T GET REVENGE ON GLADIO
It was getting late, and we were starting to grow tired. Not that we hadn’t laughed a lot and spent one of the best evenings ever. But people were also starting to leave for the day. Because the place was starting to get empty, I had definitely kept my guard down when I shouldn’t have.
Another scarer, this one on stilts so I had no way of noticing him getting closer. I didn’t see anyone until him –or her, I couldn’t really tell under that loose tunic and all that much makeup, it was definitely a much more elaborate costume than others –crouched down before me made an ugly scary face.
“Aaaah!” Prompto screamed behind me, and Noctis yelped as well.
I, on the other hand, internalized my heart attack this time.
“Gods…” Even Ignis had gotten startled, and he had gotten mad at himself for it too.
Nope. I was done with having mini heart attacks every time someone jumped at me, I hid there where I wouldn’t be bothered again.
“Where’s Y/N?” I heard them calling for me.
“Here…” I reluctantly admitted from my hiding spot.
When Gladio turned around and saw I had been using him as a human shield as I tried to recover, he broke out in laughter.
“What?” I complained with a resigned pout. “It feels safe in there!”
I definitely needed to feel safe in order to recover from all the spookiness!
I needed another hug! It was the best medicine. So I went for it.
GO TO GLADIO FOR COMFORT // GO TO IGNIS FOR COMFORT
We couldn’t be bothered to go into another haunted house –anyway, it would be pretty much the same thing like the other two –and we took a walk around the festival before finally going back home. It had been a fun night in which we got scared, teased each other and were silly together. I was glad that they put a Halloween festival, and I couldn’t wait to come back next year.

QUEEN | YANDERE!NOCTIS x READER | FFXV
Tumblr media
Nobody really knew how much pressure he was under.
They just took one look from the outside and figured that it was easy. Figured that it was a piece of cake, being royalty. A prince. Revered, even as his kingdom was crumbling.
To add to it though, there was you. Noctis always felt like he was at boiling point trying to pull everything together, because all he truly desired was to make you his queen, and rebuild everything from stage 1. He didn't care how much he had to abandon. He simply wanted to sit on the Insomnian throne with you right there by his side.
It wasn't exactly a normal infatuation he had. He realized that much. It was hard to ignore his own actions, the way his nails were digging into his knees and his teeth were gritting and grinding behind his lips as you sat up-front in the car and chatted so happily with Ignis.
He should have seen this coming. He shouldn't have let you take the front seat, he should have simply made you sit sandwiched in between him and Gladio. Prompto could chat away like his life depended on it. If he had done that, if he had simply done that, then he wouldn't be on the verge of reaching forward and strangling Ignis while he drove, without a care for where that would send the car careening when he let go of the wheel. Dying in a flaming wreck almost seemed preferable to enduring this.
Watching and listening bitterly while the two of you chatted, that was all he could do. It was innocent stuff, but Noctis saw right through the glasses wearing fellow, who pretended he was so suave and gentlemanly and yet seemed to be so clearly trying to steal you away from him.
Well...he could try. But in the end...in the end...Noctis would get what he desired.
As the sun set below the horizon, Ignis pulled over at one of the Cleigne pit-stops and encouraged you to get out with a gentle hand upon yours. As you took his glove against your palm, you were blissfully unaware of the furious staring that Noctis was directing towards the two of you. He did always have a slightly disgruntled look to him though, so maybe it wasn't so obvious. Either way, he was pissed.
“...” His eyes scanned creepily, in contrast with his stiffened posture, as he watched you going towards the cafe with the others in tow. They were all following you like dogs, all trying to act cool and chatty. Noctis was fifth wheeling and it hurt like hell.
He ended up going into the bathroom and as soon as he was facing a mirror he couldn't help himself. One glimpse of shaggy midnight hair and his fist shot out, slamming against the slightly dirty reflection and immediately smashing it in a spider's pattern. His lowered head only breathed out calmly, eyes glaring right ahead at the bloodied crack he'd formed.
Noctis didn't feel a thing. He'd noticed that recently too. In battles, be it with damn roadside Daemons, or the damn Magitek soldiers, he didn't seem to notice any pain that was inflicted upon him. Perhaps that was something to be grateful for, but it was frightening. The world outside of you felt numb. You were the only thing he truly felt for...
That was why the others couldn't compare in the slightest. What did they envision for you, hm? Prompto, probably figured you'd both go off and run some backwards Chocobo ranch in the middle of literally nowhere. Ignis, he'd be as boring as ever, only cook and hold more doors open for you. Gladio? He was such a brute that it was hard to imagine him being romantic, even if he fancied himself as hot stuff with that open leather he wore.
No...what Noctis was offering was unbeatable. He knew that to be true, as he emerged from the bathroom, clutching his bloodied knuckle with his other hand. He knew it still as he approached the four of you at the counter, ominously so.
What were you all talking about? What did it matter? Hah...yes it really didn't count for anything. None of it did. Prompto's stupid jokes and irritating little jingles. Ignis and his relentless insistence on being a smartass who could 'teach you anything'. Gladio and his ceaseless flexing.
None of it would be of any consequence to Noctis in the long run. He ate his chips and forced a smile, blaming a fluke for his fresh injury and drowning himself in ketchup and health potions. All the while he was planning it out inside his head, and admiring your figure as you sat there in the stool.
Soon enough, you'd have no need to sit on such a tatty, dirty thing. Instead, you'd be living lavishly. A throne, not a stool. Only one man beside you.
His fingers pinched and crushed the last chip he was holding before he'd even had the chance to eat it. None of you saw it, so busy with your meaningless conversation, but he was smiling. Widely, insanely, his teeth showed and his eyes glimmered like he were a living cartoon.
He'd destroy them all, kill them in brutally fitting ways, his revenge for all this suffering they had so obliviously inflicted upon him. He'd make sure they paid a dear price for screwing him around, and he'd also ensure that you never so much as spoke of them ever again...
Then, when all was said and done, you'd return to Insomnia together. Just the two of you...
Strange...it was such a distant memory... Had it really happened? You weren't sure.
You could recall faint glimpses of a past that seemed to have happened. Fried foods at heartwarming pit-stops, the chatter and laughter of friends around you. Flashes of blonde and freckles, the glint of perfectly positioned glasses and the touch of a warm, large hand on your shoulder. Long drives through the rain, arches of stone stretching overhead...
Was any of that for real, or not? Again, there was no answer that could be given to you. All you had were these vague jigsaw pieces that didn't seem to fit anywhere in the puzzle that Noctis had constructed for you. All you were truly aware of was the abandoned, forever darkened cityscape around you, and him of course.
Your prince...no...your king.
He circled around behind your throne, his pale hand deftly snaking down from ornate carvings to your shoulder blade, and finally up to your jaw. He tilted your head up, and once again you were greeted with the sight he showed you every day. Noctis made sure to remind you of this, so you never attempted to ruin what he had worked so hard to build for the two of you.
Bodies. Dangling, hanging like marionettes. They were limp and their clothes were torn, but Noctis had ensured their faces were not ruined. He wanted to make it clear to that part of you, that part that was still so desperately clinging to a past you could never live in again, that these people were gone.
“...And they're never coming back, [Y/N]...” he breathed out in a low and sultry tone, lips meeting your ear before a chaste kiss was placed upon your cheek. Noctis stepped around again, letting go of you just so he could grip the arms of his own chair and slide down into it. Right there next to you, in the confines of this grand hall that may as well have been a gilded cage.
He was your king, and you were his queen. Just how it was always meant to be...

Soft Iggy Fluff
It was so cold in your apartment, the lights off and the television on, the sound low and barely audible. You weren’t paying much attention to it, your eyes barely focused on the blurred colors of the actors nor their expressions. It was some Halloween film, the kind that was lighthearted and fun with bright oranges, cartoonish jack-o lanterns, and children running around.
It was a quiet kind of evening, although there was a slow storm outside, lightning flashing somewhere in the distance and thunder rolling in the background not a moment later.
You felt the cushions next to you dipping as your husband sat down. “Darling,” You heard him whisper, “You really shouldn’t wait up for me at night.” An arm wrapped around your shoulders, tugging you towards his warm chest as his hand pulled a thick blanket over your curled up form.
You hummed in response, letting your head fall against his shoulder. “Only when you stop overworking yourself,” You mumbled, yawning slightly.
He chuckled, handing you a warm cup of tea that he had set aside. “Maybe one day.” His voice was just as soft as yours, and rather than pick up his own cup of tea, he left his hand resting on your waist, keeping you snug against him. “Extra honey,” He added, his gaze soft as you took a sip.
“So sweet of you,” You smiled tiredly, “But not as sweet as when you aren’t overworking yourself…” You added, giving him a pointed look.
Ignis chuckled, leaning down and pressing a soft kiss against your forehead. “Worried for me as always,” He teased, his thumb gently rubbing circles against your arm.
"Someone has to,” You yawned, your gaze returning to the screen as you leaned more into his touch. “No overtime tomorrow, okay?”
Ignis smiled down at you, eyes slightly tired but gaze soft. “Of course,” He promised, having already informed Noctis that he would be leaving early the following day. He planned to spend tomorrow afternoon with you and only you, perhaps making your favorite dinner and dessert before spending a soft evening watching each other’s favorite films together. “Was already planning on it.”
You hummed your acknowledgment, sleepily mumbling a firm, “Good.”
Together, you both rested against one another, tiredly basking in one another’s presence with warm tea and warm hands as the storm outside rolled passed.

LAST MINUTE CHANGES
Description: Prompto thinks it’s all over for him when he cannot find anything to eat. However, his crush has other ideas.
Pairing: (Final Fantasy XV) Prompto Argentum x Gender Neutral!Reader
Warnings: Small swearing (damn).
Word Count: 744
AUTHOR’S NOTE: This was a small drabble I wrote when I first got into FFXV ^^!! If you want a part two to this, let me know!
Prompto had never truly cooked for anyone in his life before.
While he was growing up, he learned how to make basic meals that would supply him with the right necessities. Perhaps they weren’t the healthiest for the boy but he didn’t mind. He survived this long on the foods so he must have been doing something right. It was also the same situation for while he was on the road with his friends. Ignis, the man who cooked for the group, tried to teach his friends how to cook more exquisite meals. However, as intently as the boy listened, none of it stuck with him. It merely went in one ear and out the other. While he was strolling around his kitchen, he was beating up on himself on how he should have paid more attention.
There was barely anything in his refrigerator - nothing that he could throw into a pot and call it a meal. The items in his fridge were either leftover foods or take-outs from restaurants. He sighed once more to himself as he shut the door to the refrigerator. He had stared deeply into the contents that the storage box held like he hoped for something in return. However, with no avail, nothing came to him. All while he did this, his text notifications were blowing up on his phone. Numerous texts were sent back and forth between his friends’ on their group chat; the majority of them were about Prompto’s situation. He didn’t bother to check the messages or respond to them. He didn’t want to submit to defeat just yet.
Even though he didn’t respond to the group chat’s worried pleads, he picked up his phone and traveled back to him and his crush’s messages. He read through the joyfulness of their conversations. A droning feeling of guilt and despair gnawed at him; his insides flipped and flopped with regret. He hated letting people down, especially if it was someone he cared for. He knew he had to tell them one way or another - they were coming over in under an hour. Yet, he didn’t know to initiate such a disappointing topic. His fingers were slow and they slightly trembled as he typed out some sort of apology. However, he suddenly stopped mid-sentence when an incoming message interrupted him.
A message from Gladio read:
Just tell them. Be honest. I’m sure they’ll understand, dude.
Prompto let out a soft sigh. He set down his phone (not without quickly erasing his words to his crush before doing so) before he ran both of his hands through his hair. He pricked his once standing hairstyle into an even higher mohawk. When he released his hands from his head, his blond strands of hair fell to his nose. To which, he blew the locks away from his face. He tended to play with his hair whenever he was nervous. The anxious tick of his eventually calmed his down in certain situations. However, he found himself toying with his mop of hair longer than he should have.
Prompto’s sudden anxious habits faded away when his phone rang with a different ring tone. His friends’ group chat had a different notification sound; everyone did, especially his crush. He had been listening to the same old sound for quite some time now. So, hearing something different than that definitely piqued his interest. His head perked up and he eyed the device with excitement and fear. His mind wandered with both the best and worst situations that the text message could include. Perhaps, they canceled. Or maybe they’re demanding a -
“Dammit.” Prompto mutters to himself, which was quietly masked underneath his defeated sigh. Before his mind could race with nerve-racking thoughts, he stopped himself and grabbed his phone. He was hesitant to turn on his phone screen and read the message but he pushed through. He softly read the words out loud to himself; his lips barely pressed together as he spoke, the words were more so spoke as a simple breath. Which would soon be roughly sucked in and then replaced with a cheerful smile. He bared a toothy grin while his teeth bit down on the plump flesh of his bottom lip. With the text message that repeated in his mind, he felt more triumphant than before.
Hey, Prompto! Why don’t we hang out at my place instead? Bring your games over and I’ll supply the food ;)

Shield
Iris x Reader
A little drabble for you inspired by this gif by @bnbnb. I was taken in by the thought of Iris as a shield after seeing this and my muse ran away with me as soon as I started writing. XD
Slightly AU in that there is still light. Iris is a couple of years older than at the beginning of the game, around 25.
----------------
Iris Amicitia.
Lisѐ smirked as her tiny shield tore down their enemies.
So many people underestimated Iris; with her big, bright eyes, small stature and sweet, soft smile, they thought she would be a pushover. A mere pest standing between them and their prize.
What they never realised, however, was that this tiny woman was made for this. It had nothing to do with her training, her linage, or even her mission - to protect her charge. No… it came from something else… Something bigger, buried deep within her and it would not be caged. It roared like a wild beast in her belly and set a fire through her veins.
Lisѐ could only watch, transfixed and breathless as her protector dealt the final blow, her eyes wild and electric.
Her breath heaved within her chest, sweat trickling down her brow. She looked up then and Lisѐ felt a shock of something like lightening snap through her. She could not control the gasp that tore from her.
Iris slowly stood and it was all Lisѐ could do to remember to breathe.
“Ready to go, princess?” Iris’s voice was husky from exertion and Lisѐ had to snap her mouth shut to avoid making some very embarrassing sounds.
Nodding mutely in reply to her question, she let herself be tucked into the shield’s side and led away from the battleground.
Honestly, she didn’t trust her legs ay that moment and was more than happy to let Iris lead the way.
Truly, her tiny shield was something awe-inspiring to behold.
She was glad she was hers.

People think they know every daemon in existence. Iris thinks she knows a little more. She’s never told anyone, but she believes she encountered a previously unknown daemon when she was just twelve years old.
She was home by herself after school and would be overnight, not really a rare occurrence, her mind replying the silly stories that were being passed around the classroom.
Ghosts wandered a middle world—or, so said the girls in her class—somewhere between life and death, searching for a body to possess. If one were to give them a body, a doll, then a game could be played. That’s all it was. A ghost story. Something she would typically dismiss.
Something she should have dismissed.
Yet, she found herself stood in her bathroom in the early hours of the morning, sewing up a rag doll from her childhood, filled with rice and fingernail clippings, with crimson thread. She wrapped the thread tightly around the doll and tied it.
She glanced at her watch for a quick time check. Almost 3 AM. Almost go time.
She turned the doll over in her hands. The doll was pretty, with black wool hair and big button eyes, but she’d never been particularly attached to it. She’d named it Alyssa, and it had sat on a shelf for seven years.
Her watch beeped. It was time.
She stared at the doll, taking a deep breath. “Iris is the first ‘it,’” she whispered. “Iris is the first ‘it,’ Iris is the first ‘it.’” She dropped the doll, Alyssa, into the water-filled bathtub and left the bathroom, turning out the light.
She hurried to her room, turning her TV to static and tucking herself away into her closet. She pulled her knees up to her chest, closed her eyes, and began to count.
One.
Two.
Three.
Why was she doing this?
Four.
Five.
Six.
She knew nothing was going to happen. She was a rational person, she didn’t believe in ghosts or possession, so why?
Seven.
Eight.
Nine.
But what was the harm? It is just a game and she knew nothing was going to happen.
Ten.
Iris pushed open the doors of her closet and crawled out. She dug around in her vanity drawer for a pair of scissors and made her way back to her bathroom.
She grabbed the soggy doll out of the bath. “I found you, Alyssa,” she said. She drove the scissors into the doll, cutting the thread. “You’re the next ‘it.’” She dropped the doll and fled back to her bedroom, ducking into the closet.
She reached for the half glass of salt water she’d tucked away in the corner of the closet and poured half of it into her mouth. The taste made her want to vomit, but she held it in her mouth.
She crawled back out of her hiding spot, carrying the glass with her and made her way back to the bathroom.
The doll was sprawled out on the floor in a puddle.
Iris spat the water in her mouth into the bath, coughing and spluttering, and dumped the rest of the salt water over the doll. “I win, Alyssa.” she panted, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.
She spent a few moments gathering herself. She wasn’t sure why her heart rate was so high, or why her hands were shaking. She stared down at the sodden doll, rice spilling from it’s stab wound, and let out a heavy breath.
Nothing happened. Just like she knew it would. The doll did not move. She was never even the least bit scared. All she’d done is waste time and make a mess.
With a groan, Iris picked herself up off the bathroom floor. She grabbed the doll and deposited it on the radiator to dry it out. She’d burn it in the morning.
She let the water out of the tub, draped a towel over the puddle and went to bed.
Nothing seemed amiss. And of course, nothing was.
It was just, a few weeks later—and she was probably just hearing things—but she could swear, on her way to school, she could hear someone behind her whispering.
“I found you, Iris. You are the next ‘it.’”
She was sure it was nothing, though, just her imagination. I mean, she did all the steps right.
Didn’t she?

Not Leaving You (Prompto x Reader)
Character: Prompto Argentum (ft. Aranea Highwind)

Title: Not Leaving You
  Requested by @xionroxas:
I just got this new idea: s/o fell with Prompto from the train trying to protect him from Noctis, so, what happened next??? And how Episode Prompto would be with they around??? I love your writing, imagination and scenarios so much!!!
WARNING: Spoilers from FFXV and Episode Prompto! Also, angst!
What the hell was going on?! Why did the train suddenly stop?!
It didn’t take long for it to keep moving, as though nothing had happened. I had a bad feeling about the whole situation. Something very strange was happening, a strange phenomenon.
I ran around the wagons, looking for my friends. My heart was thumping against my chest as I prayed that they were okay.
As I ran from one car to the other, I realized I couldn’t find Noct nor Prompto, but I did run into Gladio and Ignis.
“Y/N!” Gladio called me as soon as he saw me, way before I got to them.
The train suddenly shook violently, and some of the windows shattered. Glasses went flying everywhere, and I threw myself to the ground in an instinct to protect myself.
Frantically, I looked up to my friends and sighed in relief when I saw that they were okay. Gladio had covered Ignis with his body to protect him, guiding him since he couldn’t see.
Through the broken windows I realized the train was surrounded by imperial forces. They were attacking us.
I closed my fists angrily, thinking that there were so many innocent people in that train aside from us. Hopefully our friends were okay too.
As fast as I could, I stood up and reunited with them.
“Guys” I urgently held their arms, restless.
“Are you alright?” Ignis worried immediately, resting his hand over mine.
“Where are Noct and Prompto?” Gladio asked me, sternly fixing his amber eyes on me.
“I don’t know, I can’t find them!” I looked all around me, hoping they would show up any minute. “I’ve been running up and down the train and-“
A loud noise on top of the train startled us, making us jump and directing our glances above our heads. Something was on top of the train.
Or someone.
“Noct” I whispered, feeling my hands shaking in fear of what could be actually happening. “He’s warping”
I didn’t think twice, I walked up to one of the windows on the other side of the train, since they were unharmed, and climbed.
“What the hell you think you’re doing?” Gladio held me by the arm to keep me from moving.
“I’m going after Noct!”
“On top of the train? Are you out of your damn mind?!”
“Y/N, it is far too dangerous” Ignis nodded as well, turning his head to the sound of my voice.
“I have to make sure they’re okay” I angrily let go of Gladio’s hand –luckily for me, he wasn’t gripping too hard due to the shock or otherwise it would have been impossible for me to win over his strength –and climbed up.
Gladio was too big to fit and Ignis was blind and wouldn’t be able to follow. They couldn’t come after me.
“Y/N!” They both shouted at the same time, but I was already halfway to the top.
My stomach seemed to jump up to meet with my throat as I slowly made me way up a moving train to get on the rooftop. It was very frightening.
I could have sworn I was hearing Noctis’ voice as I grabbed onto the top and pulled myself up. Once I did, I looked up and was received by a very disturbing scene.
I had definitely found Prompto and Noctis.
And Ardyn. I should have known he had something to do with it all.
The strange thing was that Prompto was pointing his gun at Ardyn, but Noctis was… threatening his best friend. What the hell?!
“Noct!” I shouted at the top of my lungs, afraid that he would do something he would regret. “What the hell are you doing?!”
“Y/N!” Prompto yelled, surprised by my sudden appearance there.
I could read fear in his eyes, but overall sadness. After all, his best friend was trying to kill him.
“Stand back!” Noct told me, keeping his eyes fixed on Prompto.
I didn’t think twice, deliberately disobeying his command. I stood in front of the blond, protecting him with my body.
I would not let him hurt Prompto. My boyfriend. His damn best friend!
“Why are you protecting him?!” Noctis yelled, extremely angry.
“Because you’re out of your mind!” I yelled back at him, preoccupied.
In front of me, Ardyn smirked. This was all his fault, I was sure.
Behind me, Prompto breathed heavily. He was scared, very scared.
We all stood still, alert in case someone moved even a little.
However, something happened that changed it all. Ardyn moved.
“Don’t move!” Prompto warned him to protect us, lifting his gun to point at his head instead of his chest.
“Prompto!” Noctis shouted, knocking the gun off his hands with his sword.
I could tell he was about to swing it back at him. I couldn’t understand why, it didn’t make any sense, but I intervened.
“No!” I quickly turned around and engulfed Prompto in my arms, serving him as a human shield, my back facing Noct.
It only must have taken three seconds for Noctis’ sword to swing our direction, but it felt like several minutes.
The weapon only grazed me, which showed that Noct only meant to knock him off and not hurting him and I got in the way.
But still, why would Noctis try to push him off? Why was he so mad? Why was he threatening and attacking Prompto?!
My mind was racing as I felt my boyfriend’s arms wrap around the small of my back in a hurry. He had lost balance when Noctis swung his sword.
We were falling. Falling off a moving train.
The both of us screamed as we braced ourselves for the fall. A fall we might not even survive.
*
I couldn’t really tell what happened next, I must have blacked out. I didn’t feel the impact, but I supposed Prompto returned the favor by using himself as a human shield for me that time.
All I knew was that when I came to, I could hear someone breathing heavily. Two hands shook my shoulders in panic. My side was burning in pain.
I opened my eyes to meet with Prompto’s worried ones.
“Y/N!” He called me, urgently taking my hands in his. “Are you okay?!”
I opened my mouth, about to respond, when my hands immediately let go of his and flew to my wound. I could feel the blood sipping through it.
I looked down to see white and red. Snow and blood.
“Why… are we in the snow?” My voice was hoarse and came with ragged breaths.
“I-I don’t know” Prompto frowned, frantically looking from my hands to my eyes.
“What happened?” I slowly sat up, tightly clutching my side and grimacing.
My boyfriend gingerly helped me by pulling at my arm with gentle hands.
His silence, however, reminded me of the most recent events. Of what happened in the train with Noct.
And Ardyn.
I was sure that he had done something to Noct so he would attack Prompto. Just to create chaos, to mess with us. And he had succeeded.
I could only guess how broken my boyfriend was feeling at that moment, thinking his best friend hated him. That he wanted him dead, that he had attacked him and pushed him off a train.
“We need to go back with them” I said, leaning on him to stand up.
He carefully held me up, placing his hands on my hips.
“No, we… we can’t... We cant, Y/N”
“What do you mean we can’t? They’ll be looking for us!”
I tiredly rested my head on his shoulder as I bore with the uncomfortable and loud silence that settled between us. Even if I could almost hear his thoughts.
His insecurities, how he was doubting they would be looking for us.
I hunched forward when I felt a sudden and very intense pang of pain in my side. For a moment it felt like I couldn’t breathe, and I dangerously stumbled. Prompto hurriedly held me.
“You’re hurt!” His voice sounded pained and broken. “We need to get you out of here”
I didn’t even have the strength to argue, I nodded and followed along as he wrapped an arm around me and took me with him.
I wondered where the snow was coming from. Where were we?
As we walked, dragging ourselves across the thick layer of snow in the ground, the blizzard intensified.
I started shivering violently, and my teeth chattered because of the cold. I wanted to stop both of those things, but they were involuntary and too strong for me to stop them.
Prompto urgently looked for my hand and held it tight, tugging at it to help me move myself.
I wanted to say something just to avoid hearing the lonely and harrowing sound of the strong wind howling in our ears. The utter silence that surrounded us, like we were in some godforsaken and desolated land.
It felt isolating and terrifying. At least I was there with Prompto, we were there for each other.
The cold started making my bones hurt, as my whole body became numb and frozen. That, along with the pain, made me want to cry out of helplessness.
While Prompto pushed us both forward and onwards, struggling with the strong wind and the freezing air, I looked down to my side.
The wound wasn’t very deep, but I was losing a lot of blood as the cut was pretty wide. My vision was starting to become blurry.
“We’ll be out of here in a jiffy” Prompto said, surely to lighten the mood.
It was his way of convincing me and himself that everything would be alright.
“Prom…” I whispered, feeling like I was barely hanging on.
“I think I see a hut right there” He hadn’t heard me over the loud noise of the blizzard. “We’ll be warm in there, and I’ll take care of you”
He was starting to really struggle to keep walking. The wind was very strong, and the cold air didn’t help. Not to mention the hard and slippery snow under our feet.
Prompto held one arm up, hoping it would shield his eyes. He grunted with the effort of having to push himself along with me towards the hut.
I couldn’t even see it myself, everything around me had turned into a white snowy blur.
Then something even stranger happened, which my weary mind imagined was another one of Ardyn’s illusions. It was the only logical solution, because I couldn’t even tell what happened.
I just fell to the ground, weak and exhausted, and Prompto couldn’t see me. We got separated, but I was already fading away and even the anxiety that I felt about it was nothing compared to the nothingness that engulfed me.
*
I was received by warmth. Inviting, lovely warmth.
The second thing I noticed after the safe and welcoming feeling of a fire beside me was the lack of pain. Someone had treated my wound.
A sigh sounded near me, hinting that said person was still there.
I opened my eyes, trying to sit up. Although the pain had previously disappeared, it came back with that movement.
Wincing and complaining, I held my side.
“Take it easy” A familiar female voice said. “You almost died in there”
I looked in her direction and found myself with the Niff soldier.
“Aranea!” I exclaimed, struggling with myself until I managed to stand up. “Where-“
“Lover boy is around here somewhere” She replied before I could even mention Prompto’s name. “I’m looking for him”
“Would you take me with him?”
“You’re wounded” She shook her head. “You won’t be able to keep up with me”
“I will now that you patched me up” I made a pause, analyzing her stern expression, and decided to push it. “I won’t take no for an answer”
I had been lucky enough that Aranea found me or otherwise I would indeed have died. But Prompto was probably still in the middle of the storm, he couldn’t stay in that hut forever. That if he wasn’t still out in the open looking for me, in which case he might be...
“You sure love that boy” She crossed her arms and observed me curiously.
“I do” I insisted, showing her my conviction.
“Who am I to deny true love?” Aranea said, mildly sarcastic. “But if you can’t keep up, I’m leaving you behind”
“Fair enough” I mumbled, although I honestly refused to believe she would.
Aranea was a badass, and definitely strong, but not heartless despite her careless appearance.
We barely spoke as we made our way to the place where she thought Prompto was. It was still cold, but luckily Aranea managed to get me a coat.
Still, despite all the difficulties, I was determined to reunite with my boyfriend. I just couldn’t leave him alone in a situation like that, when he most needed me.
*
“Are you sure it’s here?” I asked the Niff as we stopped before the building.
Why would he be there? Was he taken? Was he being held captive inside there? Did Ardyn actually have anything to do? Had he hurt Prompto?
Very negative and terrifying thoughts passed my mind about all the possibilities, all of which involved a suffering and crying Prompto. I tried to shake that image away from my head, unable to bear imagining him with that expression of pain and sadness plastered on his face.
I felt out of breath just with the thought that he was hurt, or something worse.
“I’m pretty sure” When her eyes fell on me, she paused and added something else. “And relax, your dear boyfriend is okay”
“I sure hope so” I mumbled, intimidated as I observed the building before us.
Aranea had caught me up on the little things she knew. We were in imperial land, close to Gralea, and that building was the MT headquarters, there where so many horrible experiments happened at the hands of Verstael Besithia.
“Follow me” Aranea motioned with her hand, carrying her enormous weapon.
When I was close enough, she took me by the wrists and settled my hands in the handle of said weapon. Before I knew it, we were flying and breaking through the ceiling.
She certainly knew how to make an entrance, and also how to break through closed doors.
I looked around in the hopes that I would spot my boyfriend, and surely enough I did. His thin figure kneeling down on the ground in a very sad and heartbroken way.
“Prompto!” I ran in his direction, kneeling in front of him, and hugged him tight. “Thank the Gods, you’re okay”
To my surprise, it took him a few seconds to respond. He was in shock.
“Y/N?” He uttered lowly, letting out a trembling breath.
Obviously, he was confused by my sudden presence there. By my abrupt appearance and imposing embrace. But he soon recovered from it all.
Prompto then nuzzled his nose on my shoulder and sobbed there, holding me tighter than he ever had. He needed that hug, I had just arrived for him in the perfect moment. When he needed me the absolute most.
“What’s wrong?” I held him back as lovingly as I could. “What happened?”
Prompto didn’t reply, he just shook and cried on me. His hands clutched my clothes in desperation as he broke down.
“You two, on your feet” Aranea came and tore us away from the other. “Let’s move”
I stood up and stared at her, dumbfounded. Prompto didn’t.
The blond didn’t move at first, he just stood there on his knees. His head hung low and tears still ran down his cheek, washing over his freckles. His loud sobs broke my heart.
Not ready to be dealing with that, Aranea intervened again. She leaned forward and took him by the jacket –he was wearing different clothes as well as a beanie that covered his head, I supposed he found them somewhere to keep himself sheltered from the unforgiving cold –and intensely glared at him.
“I’m just gonna say this once” She pulled him to his feet with a swift movement. “Lose your will to live, and you lose any hope of me saving your sorry ass. Got it?”
I softly pushed her, not liking that she treated him like that. Perhaps it was what he needed at that moment to get back on his feet, but I refused anyhow. Especially since he was so miserable and broken.
Once she started walking, I took a better look at him.
“I thought I had lost you” He whispered in a gentle and low voice, giving me a heartbreaking look even if he soon averted his blue eyes from me.
I wondered if that was the reason why he had held me so urgently, yet something told me that whatever had happened to him in there was bigger than us at the moment.
“I won’t leave you so easily” I tenderly brushed my thumbs against his cheek to wipe his tears.
His eyes reluctantly met with mine briefly before tearing away from me again. He was so sad, I just wanted to hug him forever and protect him.
“We’ll talk later, okay?” I offered to hear whatever he needed to tell me, to explain why he was so affected, but that was not the time. “Now we have to get out of here”
Prompto nodded silently, incapable of looking into my eyes again.
I then took his hand, determined and without hesitation, and started running after Aranea. Lots of enemies started surrounding us three as we tried to escape through the facility’s hallways. We hesitated, ready to fight back.
“No time to lose!” She shouted at us, stopping for a moment to talk to us. “Don’t stop and fight them, you have to get out of here”
I nodded and tugged at Prompto’s hand as I started running faster. I held him tightly as I dodged their attacks and did my best to ignore and pass them by.
My boyfriend was awfully quiet, resigning himself to follow in silence, guided by me. I hated to see him like that, so out of himself, so dull and blue.
I honestly couldn’t wait until we were safe to pay more attention to him, to find out what had happened and properly comfort him.
Not stopping, we sprinted all the way to the opposite end of the building until we found ourselves in a spacious room. There was a vehicle prepared to ride on the snow, just parked there waiting to be used. How fortunate, that would be our escaping method.
As Prompto and I got closer to it, we realized Aranea was fighting those creatures to back us up. The blond and I exchanged a glance in silence before setting our eyes back on her.
Almost in cue, she turned to us and shoved a map against Prompto’s chest.
“Head there” She told us gravely. “I’ll catch up later”
I felt guilty leaving her behind so we could escape safe and sound. I let go of Prompto’s hand and sighed as I looked at him.
“You go, I’ll back her up” I urged him, shooing him away.
I took a step closer to Aranea, but I was yanked back with surprising strength.
“Oh, no” Prompto refused, fiercely holding my wrist and tugging at it with determination. “You’re coming with me, I’m not leaving you again”
I opened my mouth to argue, thinking that it was more important for me that he got out safely than anything else. But when I saw his expression I was left speechless.
There was still sadness in his eyes, and there were no traces of his usual bright smile. But he was frowning and there was so much stubbornness in his glance as well that it was hard to remember him with his iconic softness.
He was determined as he stood his ground, staring intensely at me, waiting for a response. I couldn’t help but to give in to his stern expression, his surprising strength and stoicism so unlike him.
Prompto didn’t let go of me until we were both sitting on the snowmobile. I sat behind him and wrapped my arms around his stomach to hold on to something.
The two of us looked over our shoulders to Aranea before he started the engine and we drove off to the outdoors.
*
The silence was killing me. Why wouldn’t he talk to me? What had happened to him in that place?! I was starting to get really worried.
I held him tightly around the waist as he navigated through the desolated snowy landscape. He seemed focused and serious, but I knew that deep down he was still distraught.
I could tell by how tense he was, by his stiff shoulders and his brooding silence. By how he would look over his shoulder to me every now and then, almost to tell me something, just to glance up ahead again. He was avoiding me.
It was the first time we ever kept something from the other. We were always open and honest about our feelings, about our struggles and concerns. It really had to be something huge and harrowing to make him keep it from me.
“We’re almost there” He whispered, briefly breaking the silence that soon established again, just loud enough for me to hear.
I winced at the sound of his voice.
Where was his bubbly voice, his upbeat tone and high-pitched range? His happy-go-lucky, fidgety and spry gestures? His gorgeous and wide smile, the genuine one? Where was the cheerful glint in his eyes? He had lost all of that, it had been taken from him so fast.
I squeezed him closer as I snuggled my front to his back, hiding my face on the back of his shoulder and fighting the urge to cry.
“Won’t you talk to me?” I dared to ask, causing my heart to race in anticipation to his answer.
He didn’t reply.
I wasn’t sure whether he didn’t hear me over the loud noise of the snowmobile that threw us around while we hit the changes of terrain, or he had pretended he didn’t.
I sighed, crestfallen, and resolved to leave a ginger kiss on his neck to remind him that I was there. That I would always be.
*
As we camped, the tension became unbearable. I had craved some time alone with him ever since we were separated, but I was starting to look forward to seeing Aranea again.
It had become too harrowing to be alone with him.
We sat by the other, being warmed by the fire that took us so much effort to make. I was rummaging through my brain, trying to find the right way to start the conversation. But a part of me told me that it was best to let him speak at his own pace. He would eventually say something.
“I didn’t ask” Prompto piped up, even if his eyes were glued to the fire. “How’s your side?”
I subconsciously rested my hand there where my wound was, healed but sore. It made me sigh, bringing back all the events of the train. I had lost track of time, but it couldn’t have been more than a day or two ago. Yet it felt like a lifetime.
“It hurts a little” I shrugged, taking importance from it. “But there are worse things”
This situation was definitely more painful than the cut in my side. In a different way as well, that inflicted a more intense suffering in me.
“I’m so glad Aranea found you” He said, his voice almost rid of any emotion. It felt like the boy sitting next to me wasn’t even my boyfriend, like it wasn’t Prompto but someone that merely looked like him. “I was so scared… I… couldn’t stop thinking about you, wondering what happened to you”
I knew he meant it, especially when his voice finally recovered some of its former energy. Even if he spoke at a very low volume.
“Me too” I gulped, trying to take the opportunity to ask him again. “I just wanted to know where you were, where you had gone”
Prompto gave me a surprised and frightened glance, like talking about it scared him. Then he frowned and averted his glance once more.
The only times he had done that before was when he got shy or flustered, and not because he was hiding something from me. That situation was making me crazy.
“Why won’t you talk to me?” I complained, even if my voice broke for a moment. “Something horrible must have happened in there for you to keep secrets from me”
“You wouldn’t want to know, Y/N…”
“I do want to know! You know you can tell me anything, Prompto, no matter how horrible it was! I want to help you, and… and I understand if it was too horrible to speak of it right now, or at all! But just don’t pretend like you’re not hiding it from me. Don’t pretend like it’s okay, because I know it’s not!”
He concealed his face by looking down, letting a tuft of blond hair fall over it and hide his expression. Even if I could have sworn his shoulders shook in a silent sob.
Not again, I just couldn’t bear watching him cry again. It made me want to cry.
“Prom…” I managed to choke through the lump in my throat, reaching out to settle a hand on his shoulder.
He shook his head and shrunk away from my touch right before my fingers could graze him.
Shoving a hand against my mouth and pushing the other against my aching heart, I frantically stood to my feet. I just wanted everything to be alright, get him to stop suffering.
I forced myself to take a deep breath to calm myself and dropped my hands to my sides. Just then I spotted Aranea walking towards us.
I felt oddly relieved by the presence of a woman that was almost a stranger, as well as a member of our enemies. Even if she wasn’t an enemy herself, no matter how much of a Niff she was. She had helped us and shown we could trust her.
I turned to look at him again, just to see that he was holding a red hot piece of firewood and putting it dangerously close to his exposed wrist. I saw him gulping and getting it way too close to his bare skin.
I recognized the determination in his eyes, he was literally about to hurt himself.
“Prompto, what the hell are you doing?!” Tears formed in my eyes as I snatched the scolding piece of wood out of his hand.
I examined the spot in his wrist, there where he almost injured himself. I was noticing for the first time since I knew him, but there was some sort of tattoo in his skin. It looked like a barcode.
“I…” I wouldn’t have known he had said something if it weren’t for the small cloud of vapor his breath formed in the cold air. “I can’t go back with Noct”
“Why not?”
“What I’ve seen there, Y/N… You just wouldn’t understand…”
“Try me”
“You’d hate me, you’d be repulsed by my existence”
“Never” I shook my head adamantly. “Test me and you’ll see”
Prompto frowned, nervously nibbling on his bottom lip, and forced himself to make eye contact.
“I… I’m b-branded for life” His brows furrowed even more as his voice became shaky, threatening to turn into sobs. “This barcode… MTs have it too, I… am one of them”
I opened my mouth to say something. Even if my mind was racing as much as my heart as I tried to wrap my head around the idea that what he was saying was true, as I tried to remind myself that such statements didn’t change who he was.
He was still my boyfriend. He was still the soft and beautiful boy I fell for.
However, Prompto kept talking. I could almost feel how nervous and scared he was to be confessing that to me, how he feared he would lose me to those facts.
“I’m… just a stupid clone that was never supposed to happen, I’m from the Empire and that’s why Noct…” He made a pause to sigh sadly. “I’m a monster that was made to make him and everyone miserable, and I can never expect you guys to accept the real me”
I was growing angrier by the second. Witnessing that was becoming too much for me, and something within me was about to snap.
“How can you guys?” He continued, venting at that point. “I’m worthless, and I lied to you… I kept this a secret for so long, always pretending… I can’t expect all of you to be my friends… So I understand if you don’t want me anymore, Y/N, I-”
I found myself throwing my weight to him and tackling him to the ground. Out of anger, frustration, love, restlessness and sadness.
I just couldn’t stand hearing him. Watching him. Knowing how he felt. It was too painful, it was breaking my heart and torturing me.
I needed to put an end to his suffering already, to stop him from crying and saying all those horrible things about himself. I tackled him in an instinct.
I could feel myself breathing heavily out of the adrenaline that was pumping through my veins, fueled by the absolutely rage that his words caused me.
I rested my hands on his chest as I straddled him, harshly fixing my eyes on his.
I could read the absolute panic in his eyes as he watched me. It made me realize how violent and aggressive I had been and how he might have taken it the wrong way after all the things he said to me.
Contrary to what he believed, I didn’t hate him. I never could. I just wanted him to stop saying those things and snapped.
To demonstrate that what I did was somehow out of love and concern for him, I smacked my lips on his with as much passion as I could. Then I broke away, almost breathless, and stared into his eyes again.
“Prompto Argentum, you are none of those things, those are nothing but lies” I suddenly realized why Aranea had made up her mind about her stern approach. “You are a soft, wonderful person with a kind soul that has so much love and pureness in your heart that… you just deserve all our love and friendship, despite all you just said because none of that matters in any way”
His mouth opened in awe, just as his eyebrows twitched in confusion. His lips moved as he was about to mumble something, but I put one finger in them to keep him from saying anything else.
“I’m not done talking” I warned him, still furious. “If you think Noct or me or any of us for that matter will stop being your friends because of that, you’re completely wrong. You’re really stupid if you believe for even one second that I’m gonna stop loving you, because none of what you said changes who you are or my feelings for you and-“
In a rush of affection and in an impulsive moment, he wrapped his arms around me and swung us both until he completely threw me over him so I lied down on top of his figure.
“Thank you” He whispered, his voice strangled and filled with the deepest gratitude, as he locked me against him.
I softly moved to leave another kiss on his lips, this much softer and more delicate. When I separated myself from him and softened my glance to look at him, he showed me a smile that finally made it back to his eyes.
The old and true Prompto was back. My Prompto.
“So…” He gulped a little, choking on his own words. “You still love me?”
I nodded with energy and grinned widely.
“I’m not leaving you” I closed my eyes passionately, reaching forward to meet with his lips again. But I was interrupted.
“Guess I’m not needed here anymore” Aranea said behind us, making us both visibly jolt up.
I had completely forgotten she was there, and when she spoke all of a sudden it almost made me jump out of my skin. Even if I blushed violently at the thought that she had witnessed the whole thing.
Extremely self-conscious, I hurriedly got myself off Prompto and sat in the snow beside him instead. I tried to keep my eyes glued to the fire as to not look at her.
“Thanks for everything” Prompto told her, even if he was very embarrassed himself.
“Don’t mention it, shortcake” I could then feel her eyes on me, so I looked up in spite of myself knowing she wanted to talk to me now. “Nicely done, by the way”
I flushed even more –if that was possible –when I realized she was talking about how I had put him back in shape. Averting my gaze again, I shrugged timidly.
To get over my embarrassment, I turned to face Prompto and dedicated him a loving glance.
“Let’s go find Noct and the others” I encouraged him, giving him a meaningful glance. “We have a lot to tell them, and we’re gonna do it together”
He smiled a bit and engulfed me in a warm and secure embrace.
I still had to find out exactly what happened in there, how he found out all of those things that he told me. But he wasn’t scared anymore, he wasn’t sad and defeated.
He had recovered his strength and was ready to face the rest. Because I would also be by his side.

BREAK | YANDERE!GLADIOLUS x READER | FFXV
Tumblr media
You had always figured that you could trust him. You thought he was your protector. You would have never assumed he could be such a monster.
This was like some kind of cruel deja vu. The typically gorgeous Duscae highlands were infected with the fog that you could so distinctly recall lingering around the Behemoth, back when you and your friends had so bravely taken on that unenviable hunt.
Yet now, the beast that chased you was decidedly human in shape, and hardly reluctant, nor so foolish as to assume you weren't there. Gladio had no blind spot. He knew exactly where you were, and he was coming.
Still, you were perhaps a fool for trying to hide and run from him still. You hurried and hid behind jagged rocks and outcrops, panting and trying to catch your breath after bounding and scrambling across the mist and dew ridden grass so speedily. Your chest had never felt so pained. Now you were almost regretful that you hadn't opted to train more with the man when he'd offered it.
Too bad, eh? Back then...you hadn't known him to have this side. He was kind of gruff, and maybe a little temperamental at times, but never cruel with it.
Now though...
“[Y/N]! I can see you! Come back here, and maybe I'll go easy on you! Hahaha!” His bellowing laugh was a mockery. 'Go easy on you'? Was he really going to hurt you for trying to run away from him?
No...you already knew the answer to that. He'd provided it back when you'd tried to walk away from him a few days ago. He'd assumed you were going to follow Prompto into the Chocobo Ranch, and he'd seized your arm before you could get far. You could still remember how hard he'd squeezed you, like he didn't care how overpowering his strength was. Like he wanted you to know he was so much tougher than you were.
Maybe back then you should have predicted an outcome like this.
Where the others were, you didn't know, as Gladio had brought you away from the camp for some early morning 'training', and instead turned the tour into a hunt. You felt like something worth a bounty as he had suddenly turned on you and tried to grab you and pull you back to him, almost losing his cool for a moment as he proclaimed: “I love you! Don't you understand that!? Get it through your damn skull [Y/N]!”
He'd hammer it in there if he caught you, you were sure of it. Things had taken such a violent turn that you'd tried to run for it as soon as he swung for you, attempting to knock you out for whatever twisted reason. If this was 'love' then you didn't know what to say, you just wanted to spit on it and forget the whole incident had ever happened. How could he force something like that upon you?
Did he really think you'd love him in return if he made you? How could he not see that you were far more inclined towards the gentle, childish ways and mannerisms of Prompto?
Or maybe he did see. Maybe that was only fuel to the fire, maybe that was yet another reason why he had chosen to chase you down. Love born out of fear. Yes...Gladio would catch you, and when he did, he'd simply make you wish you'd said 'yes' to him when he first asked. His usual sparring would be amped up to a degree you'd barely survive.
He didn't feel like being messed around with. He didn't want to candy coat anything anymore. He was getting what he wanted from you, and he was getting it right now, today.
“Come on, the longer you try to stay away from me, the harsher I'll be with you! I might just end up killing you if we're not careful!”
He sounded so horribly jovial about it. You could hear him coming closer to your current hiding place, heavy boots trudging all too causally across the earth, flattening the grass beneath their soles. You didn't especially want to get your head kicked in with those, and so you made moves again, scrambling down the slope and desperately trying to find another spot to hide yourself.
“[Y/N]...come back here...”
Never! Your frantic hands pulled and tugged up blades and small clumps of dirt with how haphazardly you were moving forwards, until suddenly your front slapped up against a stone wall. Jerking back, you initially felt a surge of panic as you realized you'd crawled right across the ground and up to a blockade of rock. Then though, you happened to notice a small passageway, hopefully too small for Gladio to follow through given his brawn physique.
Not caring if you found Goblins in there, you hurried and forced your way inside it, delving deeply into the darkness. In the distance you swore you could still hear Gladiolus, but you ignored him, and just kept on going until you finally reached an opening. Then, with a gasp, you emerged into a large clearing.
Instantly you felt awash with relief. Sun beams warmed your skin, the air no longer chilled, just fresh and crisp as any good morning should be. The trees were fully visible, the fog behind you now. As you straightened up and stood again, you hurried forth with a smile, knowing you'd made it out of there.
Sadly though...you weren't quite out of the frying pan yet.
For as soon as you picked up any sort of pace, you emerged through the trees and met another stone wall again. Stumbling backwards, you figured it was just another random rock face, maybe just a big boulder, only to swiftly discover that the stone stretched in a circle all around the perimeter of this grassy clearing.
In essence, you were trapped. And the only way out was through that passageway again. Of course, you didn't want to go back there, especially if Gladio had managed to get through, so you leapt up against the nearest face of stone and tried to get a grip to climb.
No luck. You tried in various places, but couldn't find any hold at all. The rock wasn't uneven enough, and was just too steep. You were effectively caged in amongst it. Trapped, and this time you really had nowhere to go. Things could only get worse...and they swiftly did.
“Man...bit of a tight squeeze, but hey, I made it.” There he was. You could hear him behind you, and you slowly, tearfully, turned to face him. Gladio was there indeed, having emerged from the short cave, brushing off his leather pants and fixing his jacket again. He grinned with a maniacal touch when he saw you, and you quickly backed up against the stone, whimpering as he advanced on you.
“Didja think I would get stuck in there or something? Think I wouldn't make it?” Gladio only laughed, closing in steadily until he finally had you utterly and helplessly pinned. Your veins felt like icicles, and when you tried to dive aside and hurry back through the gap, he was quick to thrust his hands either side of you and cage you in, preventing you from running anywhere.
“Ah ah ah. I'm only just getting started with you, [Y/N]. Now then...” When Gladio was certain you knew you stood no chance of running, he removed his hands and started cracking his knuckles right in front of you. You winced and cringed with every snap of the bones, knowing that you would be like paper against this brute. He'd pummel you, and if that didn't kill you, it would sure make you his. Too weakened to do anything else, the 'love' part would come in due course.
But you didn't want that. It was the last thing you wanted, and in your desperation your knees buckled and you dropped down to the grass, kneeling right before his gargantuan figure. Your trembling hands reached up to clutch onto his legs and wrap around them, expression pleading while you begged: “Please don't hurt me! Gladio I'm begging you! Y-you'll break me!”
“...” Gladiolus hummed for a moment, allowing his own strong hands to relax a bit. Then, he slowly crouched down, until he was hovering much more closely over you, and he could easily take hold of your chin and make sure you looked at him. You were still clinging to his legs somewhat then, ceaselessly desperate.
“...Maybe it's what you deserve, [Y/N]. After leading me on for so long, taking advantage of the fact that I love you and would do anything for you. Relying on me to protect you all the time, and yet never giving me anything in return except a worthless little smile. How is that fair?”
So he thought it was all justified. Instilling this fear into your heart, lording his power over your body so that you never so much as glanced at another man again. Punishing you so you'd stop 'misbehaving' as he so self-righteously saw it. He really did think you deserved this...
His thumb pressed against your cheek, and you closed one eye in reaction. His tanned face moved ever closer, voice sounding right by your ear as he pressed your body much more firmly against the rock behind it. You could feel his broad chest against your own, almost sense his disturbingly calm heartbeat.
“You can beg me as much as you like. You can insist you love me even if it's not true. You can do whatever you want to do in order to protect yourself, since I won't do it anymore...” His lips pressed to your cheek, and you winced again. It was a heated kiss...there was a strange sort of passion to it. “...I love you [Y/N]. I always have and I always will. But let's just admit it.”
Gladio pulled back then, and looked right at you with those stark amber eyes. His grip on you was as firm as ever, and his words as cold as they could be.
“Maybe you deserve to be broken.”
