Brothers at a Carnival

Lucifer keeps everything in order, whether it's watching over Mammon's antics or making sure Belphie doesn't stray too far. Somehow, he still manages to enjoy himself through the madness, maybe it's the touch of your hand?

Mammon schemes ways to make that mad cheddar. He definitely has tried selling the fried delights at a marked-up price. 50% inflation. Poor guy only makes 4 sales (3 from you.) If he's not cruising around in a monster truck, he's usually trying (and failing) at the dunk tank.

Leviathan always buys little anime keychains/hoodies at whatever small stand he can find. He goes hard on finding rare figures and always poses for the caricature artists.

Satan uses perfect strategy and aim to win you stuffed animals. He budgets on trips like these, unless, and only unless it's cat-related. Cat items will be his blessing and downfall, he helps stray cats around the dumpsters, but the bond is too strong. (He usually brings two to four home with him.)

Asmodeus is the type to buy artisanal jewelry. No matter the price. Although he isn't in chronic debt like Mammon, he does like to spend. Especially on Demon's Couture.

Beelzebub LOVES the food stands that sell comically large buckets of popcorn. Lucifer made him work at one for 4 years from destroying Hell's Kitchen, surprisingly enough, he enjoyed it enough to become a chef. (And get that worker's discount. 😋)

Belphegor is usually tired, even falling asleep on roller coasters. The hum of the Ferris wheel makes him surprisingly calm, even when his brothers are emotional over something. He loves watching the sunset while slowly drifting down it, your shoulder is the comfiest pillow there.

So my "The tax return came in, I get One Niceness" was going to be yarn. I'm not fancy about my crochet; I do mainly blankets, and they need to be washable, and they need to be cheap, so acrylic yarn it is. So I hied me to the Joann Fabrics website (which is just. Always so, so awful. Please fix your abomination of a website with some of that bankruptcy freedom, Joann, I would spend more money there if spending money there didn't piss me off every time) and I spent a lazy afternoon putting things into my cart and taking them out again.

This was a splurge, so I wasn't going to do the cheapest acrylic yarn; I looked for colorways that delighted me, and finally I decided on a bunch of Lion brand "Ferris Wheel" yarn. It was on a pretty good sale, so I picked out more than I usually might.

The MFH has a little online widget that gives him a percentage back on the things we buy, and another widget that looks for good coupons, so I sent him a screencap of my cart, and then went and sat in his lap and used the cap as a diagram to fill a cart under his login. Very pleased with how cheaply I'd managed to get things, I sat there while he attacked the cart with the various widgets.

There were twelve potential coupons and the widget ran through all of them one after another, seeing what would give the greatest discount. I watched, interested, as the price jumped up a little higher than what I had already, fell lower, went a bunch higher, hit the same number I had--and then fell much lower.

"What." I said, looking at a cart that was thirty dollars cheaper than it had been a moment before.

EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT, it said across the top. Something like 50% off.

"No way are they going to let us have this." I said. "Someone either put their store manager's employee number in there as a bit of revenge, or they quit and put their own up for everyone to use before it gets shut down. Joann's is gonna notice, and they're gonna cancel the sale. But let's try it anyway. And while we're at it...let me add some more, first?"

Anyway, so

Coolest deal ever. The beloved 1972 landmark, Lucy's Amusement Park in Minot, North Dakota is for sale. It has 7bds, 5ba, and of course, an amusement park. You could make it a business, or just keep it for yourself. Check this out.

I mean, come on. Look at this slide alone! And, there's a snack bar next to it.

Okay, let's look at the house before we tour the rest of the outside b/c it's dated, messy, and needs work. The living room has an old floral carpet, but it has a brick fireplace and feature wall. They have it set up as a media room.

I don't know what they're doing in here, but I'm guessing that it's supposed to be a dining room.

The kitchen isn't bad, it's modern and big, plus it opens to a deck. It just needs a little decor.

Hall to the bedrooms. There's that carpet again.

This is fun. Bubbles in the bathroom/laundry room.

Not lovin' the dryer in this bedroom, though.

I have no idea which is the primary bedroom, but this one has some built-in shelving.

Child's barnyard themed room. I would imagine that they'd take this with them.

Cluttered home office with steps up to a sleep loft, maybe?

On the way downstairs, there's a sleep loft and hot tub.

In the basement is an apt. There's a big stone fireplace wall.

Large open dining area and nice kitchen.

2 big rooms.

And, a bath.

Plus a basketball court/game area.

And a toilet with lockers.

Now, back outside, there's what looks like a homemade manually operated Ferris wheel for two.

Airplane ride.

A big miniature golf course.

Some picnic tables.

Large workshop.

2 car garage under the house.

There's plenty more land- 2.85 acres.

Open || Independence Day Carnival

Ever since summer had begun, Tallulah had been very skeptical about this whole independence thing. It had absolutely nothing to do with the Independence Day Carnival itself —the one that she had been tirelessly helping to plan— and everything to do with giving her almost teenage daughter her own small taste of independence while at the event. After much begging and a highly organized PowerPoint presentation complete with bullet points and pie charts, Tallulah had allowed Miranda to roam the carnival with just her friends, a 10PM curfew, and periodic text check-ins that were not to be missed.

Of course, Tallulah would still be in attendance as well. She had volunteered to work the event, and was doing just that, weaving in and out of the crowd selling 50/50 tickets. Just as she finished off a sale, Tallulah caught sight of her daughter near the Ferris Wheel making googly eyes at some kid Tallulah automatically assumed was trouble. It took everything in the former beauty queen not to not march right up to the little punk and break up their little love fest. Instead, she opted to play it more stealth and darted behind the cotton candy stand for a better vantage point, peeking out slightly to monitor the situation not realizing that someone else had been monitoring her too. 

Caught red handed, Tallulah heard someone call out her name. She turned around slowly greeting the looming presence with her million dollar smile in an attempt to conceal her blatant spying. She held up the tickets as a decoy ignoring the obvious and asked sweetly, “How about a 50/50? It's for a great cause."

TW: homophobia, dementia, toxic family, death

So I just finished watching The Notebook (yes, I cried like a little baby). So, to add to the list of fics that I will never write, I present:

Dreamling: The Notebook AU (with a spark of homophobia, because this is the '40s)

Dream Oneiros Endless comes from a large rich family. Robert (Hob) Gadling comes from the complete opposite and works at a mill. They meet through mutual friends. Hob continuously asks Dream out, which he responds to negatively each time (let's just say that they both managed to find friend groups that are also secretly queer, so they don't care). Eventually, Hob does the "hangs from the ferris wheel" scene, gets a promise from Dream to go on a date with him, the movie scene happens, etc. They finally go on that walk and Dream falls for him. Yay, happy scenes as they fall further in love.

And then Dream mentions that he has to go to New York for college (they can be American in this AU or there can be another reason for this). They go to the abandoned house, where they talk about fixing up the house. Things are heating up when Matthew, Hob's friend, tells them that Dream's parents have the police out looking for him. They go back to his house, the whole argument with the parents happen (perhaps with the siblings looking on or overhearing from another room. Destiny and Death, whatever their names happen to be in this AU, are probably moved out at this point, but maybe they could be visiting for some reason or they find out about this whole thing another way). The argument between Hob and Dream happens and he leaves.

The next day, Dream is informed that they are leaving. He tries to go to the mill to talk to Hob, but he's not there, so they miss each other. Hob writes a letter to Dream every day for a year, but Dream's mother throws them out. Death somehow finds them and saves them all, but something stops her from giving them to Dream.

Hob enlists in the army. Perhaps Dream has some form of condition that prevents him from enlisting, but he works as a nurse instead. There, he meets Calliope, a fellow nurse. They begin to get to know each other and Dream goes back to school once he is able to. His parents approve of Calliope, as she comes from old money and is a (respectable) woman. He proposes and they are engaged.

Hob, meanwhile, returns and finally gets the house that they talked about. When going to get materials to fix it up, he spots Dream and runs to talk to him but ends up seeing him with Calliope instead. He returns to the house and focuses wholeheartedly on that. Once he's finished with it, he lists it as for sale but no buyer seems good enough. He gets involved with Eleanor, but they both know that she's not who he really wants.

Calliope is buying a wedding dress and someone brings her a newspaper, where there is information about the wedding printed. Someone leaves it on a table and Dream ends up coming across it. He unfolds it and sees the ad about Hob and the house. He contemplates for a while and then informs Calliope that he needs to return to Seabrook (or whatever the town is) to settle some things.

He finds the house and Hob. He freezes up and Dream goes to leave, but, being a horrendous driver, he drives right into the fences and the car stalls. Hob invites him in and they catch up and have dinner. Dream leaves and Hob asks him to come again tomorrow.

They have the day out on the lake and it begins to rain. Dream finds out about the letters. Things heat up quickly after that and they finally have sex. Dream and Eleanor meet.

The next morning, Hob is gone but has left a note. Dream follows the arrows and paints, with only a blanket around him, on the porch. Someone arrives and he hurries down to greet them. It's his sister.

Death (or whatever her name is in this) informs him that Calliope is coming. He asks if she knew about the letters and she tells him what happened and then asks him to drive with her. She takes him into town, where she points out a woman who she says that she had been in love with and had tried to run away with but had been caught, but that she sometimes goes there to watch her and think about how life might have been.

She drives him back and tells him that she hopes that he makes the right decision and gives him the letters. Hob and Dream fight again and then he goes back to the hotel, where he and Calliope talk.

Finally, Dream returns to the house and he and Hob remain together.

Years later, Dream is diagnosed with dementia. He writes their story in a notebook together and writes a note in it, asking Hob to read it to him and promising that he will come back if he does. Hob continuously reads it to him, getting him to remember before he soon forgets again.

The most recent time is too much for Hob and he breaks down and is found unconscious in bed the next morning. After being rushed to the hospital, he returns and tells the nurse that he wants to see Dream ("Mr. Endless"). The nurse pretends to insist that he return to his room.

Hob goes to Dream's room and he remembers him. The two talk of miracles and the next morning, the nurse finds them in the bed, having passed away together.

AWTA for kicking our youngest brother out?

title sounds SUPER bad but we had a reason, i promise.

the people involved include me( she/they ) and my younger siblings; C,( any/all ) R,( he/it ) P,( they/them ), and S.( he/him ) we're all adults and work in sales, but in different fields. me and S work together with C, while P and R do their own thing.

now, this started a while back. S wasn't... really ever good at his job. it's not because he didn't try, he was a hard worker! just... not one really paid him any mind. he was insistent that he'd make something of himself, though. S really wanted to prove he could be a " big shot " in his words.

one day, while we were at work, i was dealing with a customer, right? and i heard S on the phone with someone. but uh... he wasn't talking with a customer. at first i thought it was one of his friends, but when i went to go check on him, he got all hush hush and told me to go away, because he was in the middle of a REALLY important call. he was being oddly kinda... snippy? i dunno how else to describe it.

this only really got worse with time. S started getting attention. like, a LOT of attention. but it was so... out of the blue. changed his attitude, his look, it felt like he became a totally different person. i was happy for him, admittedly, since i felt like he was finally out of a slump, but... he'd also become a total jerk.

our other siblings started getting jealous. i did too. we all resented S for a while, but no one really said anything. we just kept working like nothing was different.

one day, S told us he'd gotten an offer from a high-ranking authority in our city to live at her mansion. i was happy for him, really, but again, it was really strange. S, of all people? getting to stay in the biggest mansion in the city? i think that snapped something within some of us, because P and S almost immediately started arguing about it. R diffused the situation, but P decided then and there that they were done with S. R and C followed suit pretty quickly after.

i didn't have the heart to be truly upset with S. he was basically my best friend! but... well, i decided i finally had enough too. one night, me and him went for a ride on our local ferris wheel. we talked, and then we argued, and when we got onto the ground, we uh... we fought. when we got home, i told the others, and we'd finally agreed on something we had been talking about for a while; we were kicking S out. he had a place to stay, so he'd be fine. and he sure as hell was making it clear he didn't need us anymore. so, S packed his things, and left.

it's been about a year now. S is still living in the mansion. me and my other siblings have gone back to working without any issue. i feel REALLY bad about what happened. i've tried getting back in touch with S, but he hasn't answered any of the calls i've given, so i'm starting to think it's a lost cause. i just want my little bro back, man.

so, AWTA for kicking our youngest brother out? should we have figured out a better solution?

39. Share a snippet from a WIP

His sights land on you, and immediately you feel watched. Wearing a black button up shirt with a red waistcoat, he’s the only person around that you can see in a uniform. His face is a grease-paint white and there’s a red smile painted across his lips. His eyes are black.

“Show’s about to start! Sales close in the next five minutes, folks! Get your tickets!” He calls out like he’s looking right through you, even though you’re walking right for him.

Georgie stares in awe, his neck craned all the way back as he watches the Ferris Wheel carriages rock and spin. You curl your fingers into the back of his shirt, losing the sinister, greased-red smile in the crowd for a second as you reach for your purse with your other hand.

OK I was inspired by that one post about who would invent rollercoasters in Tyria, so now I’m gonna talk about my idea for how the first Tyrian Theme Park gets created!

As I established in my response to the aforementioned post, the Charr are the ones to create the first rollercoasters, but some asura hears about them and sees an opportunity to create a theme park.

The most optimal location for the park is somewhere in or extremely close to Lion’s Arch, as the city is a giant hub that connects to pretty much every other major society, thus making it easier for people to get there.

The park initially starts out with a few rollercoasters that combine asuran tech and charr engineering, but eventually additional amenities pop up.

Carnival activities such as games and shows inspired by human circuses start to appear, some sylvari bring in concepts for less adrenaline based rides like Ferris Wheels, norn set up stations for food and drinks for customers. Somehow a petting zoo ends up in the mix.

You even get people coming from other continents: Vabbian entertainers to help run shows, Canthan business people to help with profits and sales; it all ends up being a testament to the different cultures of the world!

2023 Art Summary!!

so here's a single piece from each month i did!! i really wish i did more art this year, so hopefully (and most likely) next year i will!!

yall can skip reading this if you just wanna go see the links; most of you probably know i went back to college in january, which unfortunately caused me to gain major art block (ew) when my depression creeped up. i also had like no time this semester with the large ammt of courses i took (i took 6 classes and it killed me with the course load since most of them were online. never again i will be making that mistake). when i go back to classes in january, i hopefully will not be as dying as i was this semester since i am taking a majority art course load. im even taking a printmaking class which means yall will be gettin some goodies posted hopefully

my art goal for next year besides getting more commissions lol (which if you are interested can see about here) is to be able to draw full bodies - i still can't and ive been drawing humans as my main thing for at least 6 years now. i will def be practicing next year by doing many figure studies lol. i also hope i can manage to figure out how to do backgrounds besides the basic ones i tend to do i also hope that with my shop i can break some of my records like getting new states i haven't shipped to yet so that my state ammt goes up from 8 to maybe 10, having my total ammt going up to around 50 sales from 35, getting more fans for my art who love the stickers and prints i am making, ect ect i wasn't able to this year. while i am on winter break, i am trying to set up a shop update for before classes start again which i will be updating on here about when i remember to do so (honestly the hardest thing for me while having an art acct to promote my art and shop is making content besides just posting my art online and hoping people like it)
