we need to destroy the idea that girls should wear makeup. normalize bare faces on prom queens and flower girls and cheerleaders. no products at all instead of '7 product simple makeup routine.' no more 10 step skincare and regular facials and dermablading and gua sha just to be comfortable with yr natural face. i want to see eye bags on the funny librarian and acne on the swim coach and wrinkles on all our adult role models. i want to see a 16 year old girl that has never tried putting on eyeshadow. i want to see a 7 year old girl who doesn't have to go out and buy powder for her dance recital. i want to see trans women and girls everywhere to never have to wear makeup, regardless of how well they 'pass.' no more 'contouring to look masc' either. a post-beauty industry world is possible
reblogs are on but if you bring up the stage makeup point that i have addressed three times yr blocked on sight ☹️

tumblr doesn’t even have baby feminism it’s all “men deserve rights too” and “feminism means letting women wear makeup and shave and date men”

seeing the collective psychosis that white women are going through on tiktok about this “ballerina farm” woman is so insane and infuriating because these people will claim to be feminists but it’s radio silence when there’s thousands of missing native american women and black women getting murdered by cops in their own homes everyday.
people saw this white woman who CHOSE not to go to julliard and instead chose to get married, have 8 children, and live a mormon lifestyle and lost their minds. you never hear them speak about any other social justice issues but as soon as this stay at home mom does an interview about the life she CHOSE to have it’s uproar and we all need to save her.
it’s commonplace in other countries for women to be literally forced into marriage and forced to bear that many children and you don’t hear ANYTHING about it. but this woman says that she wanted to be a ballerina and instead is now a stay at home mom married to a billionaire and i’m seeing thousands of videos about how “heartbreaking” her situation is.
and i’ve heard so much about how “you can care about two things at once” and yeah, that’s true but the thing is the people saying that could not give a shit less about the systemic oppression of women of color literally right in front of their faces.

sometimes i think about how women are forced to live with their natural predator, groomed and conditioned to starve their bodies and make themselves weak, wear clothes or heels that are inconvenient when it comes to fighting or running away . . . and how they can kill their rapist or their domestic abuser and still go to jail for it
i also think about how demonized women are for desperately wanting to opt out of the violence of pregnancy, a good number of which men inflict on them as a form of violence, how children, girls, can be sexually brutalized and then arrested for dealing with that consequence
sometimes i connect these two thoughts

I’m not saying it’s surprising or inherently wrong [on the athletes’ part] or whatever but. the way NIL has shaken out so far with the value of male athletes and their “brands” being determined primarily by their athletic prowess and merits, and female athletes being overwhelmingly valued on their sex appeal above all other attributes, is just so fucking deflating I mean oh my GOD.

I saw a post complaining about people acting like Betty is some kind of poor little girl taken advantage of by her situation. And while I haven't seen this happening myself, it does make me laugh to think about because like,
Ma'am, that woman nearly killed everyone in the world *TWICE* trying to save her husband, INCLUDING TRYING TO MURDER ICE KING.
That woman has a body count that nobody asked her to make! She is just! So good! At crimes!! And we love that for her!!!

An open message to the jackasses who’ve really been out there saying “your body, my choice” these last few days, as unlikely as it is that many of them are on Tumblr (since I’m not on Xitter and still don’t ever plan to be):
I literally can’t imagine you see yourselves as anything better than petty, sniveling little creeps deep down if you feel like that’s a fun thing to crow about in public and threaten people with, so I won’t bother appealing to the reason or decency you clearly take pride in lacking.
I won’t ask how you sleep at night.
Instead, I’ll offer a friendly suggestion for how you should sleep at night:
With one eye open, you pathetic little shits.
Because if people who get pregnant against their will are going to have to risk jail time for just exercising control over their own bodies… well, they might start thinking they may as well do something worth the jail time for if they’re going anyhow, you know?

A hot take here: but can we all agree that it's not an artist or actor or athlete or any other celebrities' responsibility to be a political activist on every single goddamn issue?? Like for fuck sakes guys give it a rest...I'm sick of it

Maybe it's all very obvious and basic, but I think a lot about how there's no win state to being a woman. And I think we might be dropping the ball in getting people acquainted with feminism 101, so I'll write it out anyway.
Women are considered naturally inferior, so if someone deviates from their enforced womanly gender role they are considered unnatural and deviant and can be met with violence for not confirming, but if someone does conform then they are correctly filling their role as an inferior being. You can be a rebellious inferior being who must be subdued or a good little pet who does as you're told
The standards of womanhood of any given society are basically unachievable no matter how hard you try. You're always too much or too little, or you may be automatically excluded from eurocentric beauty standards or you're not supposed to be a woman at all. You can spend your whole life chasing after those standards, spend precious time and energy every single day trying to achieve it. And your reward when you do well in one aspect or another is often condescension and the absence of conformity enforcing violence. Are you gonna complain about getting a pat on the head instead of getting punched?
A lot of women get very defensive of the "girly" things they do, even when they're part of oppressive demands, as exemplified by how exhausting it is to try to criticize make up culture on this website. It's easy to roll your eyes at women who defend their choice to do something that's basically encouraged and required to do by all of society like they're doing something radical, because it's very frustrating. Women themselves are often the violent enforcers of patriarchal standards, so if you're more often on the other side of the conformity spectrum you understandably aren't very sympathetic.
But I think if you wanna make the effort to have that conversation anyway it's helpful to keep in mind that women often do what is expected and required of them AND they're degraded and looked down on for doing those things. And that the more marginalized a woman is the harsher the reaction to unconformity might be, compared to you. And if you're on the defensive side, take a breath and think about how there's a difference between the people who consider you vapid and stupid for caring about girly things and the people criticizing patriarchal demands on women
When I was a teenager and loved twilight I remember reading something, I think it was from the leaked chapters of Edwards perspective, about how Bella would lift her face to the rain with no problem because she wasn't wearing any make up. He then goes on to wax poetic about how she doesn't need it because her skin is perfect. And that's the thing right? You're supposed to have perfect skin, be thin, be pretty, without being so shallow as to care about those silly things, and without ever bothering anyone with how time-consuming and energy intensive it is to try to fit into those supposedly "natural" standards

I will never make this because it would be for an audience of one (me) but ever since reading "If we Were Villains" (story about serious drama kids in college who perform shakespeare and deal with a murder) I have been entertaining the thought of a crack fic crossover with High School Musical The Musical The Series where the staff decides they will no longer put on shakespeare after the tragic accident that happened at Thanksgiving, because Shakespeare plays would only increase the tension and drama. So they hire Ms. Jen who decides their spring play will actually be High School Musical (which exists in the 90s in this universe) and it ruins the vibe so much that everyone gives up on being dark and mysterious because they're universally pissed at Ms Jen for making them learn choreoraphed basketball dancing.
#if we were villains is actually genuinely good and has actual literary worth and pulls from shakespeare in an intelligent meaningful way#but unfortunately all i can do is comedy so this is the only fan content i have to offer :(#THE THING IS iwwv is just hsmtmts if it hsmtmts was good and also they committed crimes#they utilize the same parallel of casting choices with real life drama which I love#umm so casting: Meredith would be Sharpay Obvi. I think it would be really funny if James was cast as Ryan bc they hate eachother and would#have to pretend to be siblings working together. And I think ashley tisdale and Lucas Gabreel actually didn't get along when filming#also i love the thought of Ms Jen looking at James and going “i know what you are”#HOWEVER it would be more interesting if james was Chad to Oliver's Troy (which is really just reversing their Romeo and Juliet moment)#bc chad is like nooo don't do theater... stick with me and do basketball... but it would be Coded Subtextually#Unfortunately Wren would be typecast as Gabriella and I don't think that would cause drama bc I don't believe James actually liked her!#I think it was comp het bc she was very sweet and nonthreatening as opposed to Meredith's big flirting energy so she would be a “safe” crus#lets lean into that actually. this gives Wren a chance to have a personality (bc I enjoy this book but it is not good at fleshing out women#So oliver and Wren spend more time together and kind of talk about James a little and Wren is like yeah James is very sweet#and I like him but it feels so hard to get him to feel comfortable with me... i guess he's just closed off and doesn't talk much#we also get to see more of her personality and interests maybe she's like I relate to gabriella because I also like to Read :) feminism#and oliver is like Hmm That Is Not My Experience With Him perhaps our bond is deeper and James does like me Hm#And then Meredith can flirt with him as Sharpay and James gets pissed and in character gets very intense about how Troy can't join THEATER#that's why he's upset and sad bc sharpay represents theater and only that reason and nothing else and he isn't in love with oliver At All#Alexander can be Ryan now since James is Chad (and he's also Gay) and Filippa can be Kenzie bc they're both queer coded#Anyway at rehearsal one day Meredith and James and Oliver are having their fighting over troy moment and then Meredith stops and is like#wait guys. This musical is so freaking stupid. why are we even doing this#and their mutual frustration at their art being turned into a farce is enough to bond them together and they're like#we need to focus on our REAL enemy: ms Jen#and then they hatch a scheme and it's probably like. They dump a bucket of fake blood on her at opening night a la carrie#and then put on their own rebellious production... it still has to be a musical because i like musicals#families with children are in the audience and they're like OK FOLKS! HERE'S ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW!#if we were villains#iwwv#hsmtmts#high school musical the musical the series

just watched the barbie movie everyone was discoursing about last year and I can't help but feel like a lot of the problems in its execution could have been avoided if the kid character's arc had been about learning to embrace girly stuff as an act of rebellion against the adultification of teen girls while barbie went full butch transmasc
#deerchatter#i know why they didn't do that obvs the writers haven't a fucking clue what a feminism is and the bosses prefer it that way#but it's fun to think about what a good version of the premise could have looked like. there were interesting pieces on the board#the kid character could have been interesting if her arc had been about rejecting barbie bc of increasing awareness of the association#between femininity and weakness. but in wanting to gain respect she started acting and dressing like a young woman because she's at that age#where girls begin to be rewarded for being a more subdued and quote-unquote natural kind of feminine.#she could have become friends with barbie as a symbolic way to heal her inner child#meanwhile barbie takes the you-can-be-anything message to its logical extreme and decides what she wants to be is the one thing mattel will#never let her be: gender non-conforming#these 2 character arcs and where they intersect could have told the same story much better i think#emphasis on personal choice/growing up/social rebellion/embracing what will really make you happy#while also covering multiple ways to handle gendered expectations. pick out the parts you like or throw the whole gender out. both r good!#anyway i have to admit this movie was disappointing. i knew it wasn't gonna be woke but i thought it would still be a bit more fun ....#was hoping for a guilty pleasure kind of experience but even setting aside that hard thematic fumble it's underwhelming :(

let me be so fr y'all. i will NEVER shame a woman for having a man that treats her right. okay? that's always going to be a win, why would i complain about that? i just think that most of y'all that say you found him are fckn lying.
like i've watched women in dv situations lie through their teeth. they'll lie to their besties who know them freckle to freckle about their bruises. it doesn't even have to be abuse. i know how much women lie to keep up appearances with other women and i'm just saying i'm not buying it with most of y'all. that's my truth. and i start having issues when you start lying about that reality to younger women who will most likely just end up in the same shitty relationship bc of the false hope women in mid-to-shitty relationships with men espouse. and i can tell they're lying even MORE when they start trying to talk about how "women aren't necessarily better" whether that's about celibate or same-sex-partnered women. they'll drag their own female friends in order to convince everyone else that their man is truly the real deal as a status symbol. they'll shit on what their friends do for them in order to justify their veneration of this mid-ass moid. i've just seen it happen too many times, and that's why i think it's justified that radfems draw parallels between het-partnered feminists and liberal women who cling to femininity. y'all talk the exact same most of the time and even have the same arguments.
anyways.
