which fe drivers are the best at mcc games?
obviously inspired by @akantonelli ’a amazing f1 version of this post. here is my even more niche fe rendition.
ace race: mitch who always has to mute and deafen and complain to his chat. you would think he’s doing bad if you’re just listening to him but he has the record for most of the maps
battle box: jev is crazy at this and can adapt to all the different kits and maps. antonio knows this and almost always wool-rushes his team.
tgttos: pascal is the most consistent. edo nails terra swoop force every time. andre punches people a lot.
survival games: resident cod addict dan is really good but sweats too much. one time he got teamkilled (lava’d) by sergio and ragequit, missing the rest of the tournament. sergio was laughing the entire time.
buildmart: seb can be very good at it if people let him micromanage them. cass is a very fast builder and can definitely win with him but finds it way too funny to rile him up instead.
parkour tag: ollie rowland is a good hunter, sacha is a good runner and also makes good calls
parkour warrior: jake hughes is pretty good at the new format
gridrunners: it took a while for antonio to learn the game but once he did he is great. however if he gets stuck on something he might opt to just do bits with norman instead.
sands of time: robin is the best sandkeeper and pascal is a good runner. they work well together also.
meltdown: max is very good with the bow and can lead a team to victory if they cooperate
sky battle: nick cassidy thrives amongst the chaos. he once wiped out two teams with a creeper while laughing maniacally
bingo but fast: jake dennis figured out that you could pvp and dominated the game. then they turned off pvp.
hitw: nyck is cracked at this but everyone complains that he’s cheating (sometimes it bugs out and he benefits from it, what can I say)
rocket spleef: sam is obviously good (sorry) but edo is better at the extremely fast paced maps
bonuses:
jake hughes sweats petting the cats in the lobby
lucas is always commenting on the game design and once ranted about buildmart for 5 minutes straight until jake dennis left the call
andre started appearing on the admin streams and predicted jev to be the first b2b winner
ollie rowland was on track to beat the point record once and then his internet died
stoff used to be able to rig the audience vote until they changed the system to least votes
cass loves to sing along to the music, much to his teammates’ dismay
#formula e#mcc au#fe 24 grid#andre is also there I can’t help it#the references are very specific oops#rrr i still have no idea#I also wasn’t here for the 2020 content so I don’t know how any of them would be as streamers except for dan#fried yaps

Shoot Breakdown - Xanetia Sunset Shoot 2
My third shoot of the year and second with Xanetia. I returned to Brighton Beach which I'd used at the end of March 2022 on a shoot with Maddy but I had messed up the sunset time and got there just as the sun was hitting the water so it was all a bit rushed.
I really like the location though and wanted to return. As I mentioned in the previous breakdown most Adelaide jetties are very similar, it's just the seating designs that vary, Brighton has the best seating with benches which allow for the best seated posing options. Brighton jetty has a unique design with the rotunda at the halfway point and the tower at the end. Additionally, the landscaping along the pathway with rocks and boulders I can actually access makes it a far more versatile location for me.
I let Xanetia pick her own wardrobe, I just said something Summery and after my previous jetty shoot where the temperature plummeted soon as the sun set I suggested bringing something warmer we could use in shots if needed and a white thinner shirt we could use earlier in the shoot. I am a big fan of shirts as you can shoot with them on, with them off, and make some interesting shapes with them.
I often used Google Maps to scope locations and was keen to check out the ramp I spotted to the right of the jetty. I got there earlier to look around and indeed the ramp was excellent I just wished it was to the left of the jetty as that would put the setting sun behind the jetty, which would have been perfect. Sunset was at 8pm and the plan was to shoot from 6.45-8.45.
While looking around I identified 4 usable spots, which are indicated in the image below.
LOCATION A - 6.45pm - For this location, I had my wheelchair next to a bench seat with Xanetia on a rock just in front of me. The first few shots are always to calibrate to the available light. Once again, we had zero cloud cover, so the sun was a bit harsh and we'd need to wait a few minutes for the sun to drop lower and lose some intensity but we set up and started shooting anyway. The sun did provide a beautiful rim light perfect for a single light shoot. Once again we were shooting with a Godox AD300 with a gridded Godox 85CM AD-S85S Deep Parabolic Softbox.
7.00pm - We changed to some standing shots just as the light started to come to us more an hour before Sunset, It is called the Golden hour for a reason.
I haven't had a Sony for very long so I don't have the wide range of lenses as I do for my Canon so for Xmas I bought myself a Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS and this was my first time trying it on a shoot. I was worried that the f4 might not give enough depth of field but it wasn't an issue especially at the full 105mm. We didn't have the wind as we had on our first shoot but every now and then we'd get a bit of movement through the hair.
This wide-angle shot includes Leighlan with the AD300 and shows our 1-light setup.
Anyone who I've shot at a con knows I am a fan of an over-the-shoulder. I asked Xanetia to put the hair over the shoulder so we could see the shoulder blades and the lace at the back of the top and as she did the wind picked up and blew the hair in her face and I got the beautiful shot with her smiling. It's these natural smiles I'd love to capture more.
Next up we gave the legs a workout and changed to some squatting poses. These work well because you can get some nice angles and shapes with the legs.
While we started with one knee on the ground we changed to this stance instead which I like way more as it adds tension through the body creating a much better more dynamic pose.
LOCATION B - 7.20pm - I then basically pivoted from where I was and had Xanetia stand against the railing of the stairs that were behind me.
LOCATION C - 7.38pm - Our third location was probably my favourite. A concrete ramp that got me almost down to ground level with rocks lining it. Most beach ramps are covered in sand and impossible to traverse in a wheelchair.
Here is a shot showing just the ambient light we got without the flash. You can see the rim light the sun provided on our model. As mentioned in previous breakdowns Shutter Speed controls the background exposure and flash power controls the light on your model.
I did try some stretch shots but couldn't really get the shapes I wanted with the shirt but I do like the symmetry and balance in this shot with the tower in the background.
We had started sitting on top of the rock but moved to a lower position to have the rocks around Xanetia at a more relative height. I also like that we got the sail of the boat on the right side of this image I cropped to be more panoramic to extenuate the length of the jetty and horizon.
Another wide angle to show our surroundings and Leighlans position with the light. I was on the opposite side of the path so we were very aware to let beachgoers through. Something I'm very mindful of when shooting in shared spaces.
We then basically rotated Xanetia onto the rock opposite her and I got her to wrap the shirt around her and I really like these shots with the more hunched pose and the left shoulder out.
8.00pm - It wouldn't be a sunset shoot without a silhouette hair flip. I'll do another post of a video I made of all the hair flip frames but here is a couple. I wish I'd actually shot a video of it as well.
8.10pm - Just as the sun hit the water I got Xanetia to jump over the rocks and stand on the sand for this series of shots.
LOCATION D - 8.20pm - Finally we moved onto the middle part of the jetty to utilise the bench seats. At this point, you are constantly changing settings to deal with the rapidly dropping ambient light, which basically means lowering the Shutter Speed to make the background brighter and compensating by dropping the flash power to keep both in balance. We did get a nice breeze playing with the shirt and surprisingly the air temperature stayed quite warm.
With the sun falling below the horizon it kicked up an amazing orange sky that would have been just incredible if we had some clouds but we did get some beautiful silhouettes of people on the jetty.
8.37pm - Here is a shot just showing the ambient light I was getting at this point.
8.50pm - we wrap up shooting as the light is fading.

anyway hi. colors
so way back when the gigapause was still paused i discovered fireheart's hemospectrum on homestuck google plus or somewhere like that i think.
it changed my brain chemistry. i cut up sheets of paper to make tiny little labels and tape them onto my colored pencils to match the expanded hemospectrum. i was very very normal. i still have the colored pencils with labels although they are shorter now from roughly ten years of time passing
the following events may or may not be in chronological order
and then later on. there was the panel in a6a6 with roxy and the matriorb and all the other jadeblood symbols. and i got Very Normal
and then the extended zodiac released and i Went Batshit
and then i looked through all of a5a1 and eyedropped every single blood color. because the extended zodiac Standardized the colors. and let me tell you. they are Not Standardized in hs proper. vriska alone has 25 different hex codes for just her blood alone
and then i saw more and more other fan hemospectrum expansions. and more people making fantrolls with mutations like karkat's. and like rainbowblood and black & white blood and pastel stuff and desaturated stuff and other mutations
and i went autismode. because if there's neon stuff and pastel stuff and dark stuff that means that there's A Variable for Brightness. and A Variable for Saturation. and of COURSE there are hue options already. because i use HSV colorspace and not RGB because i like the hue wheel and i like the satval percents
so i made a grid. i made a lot of grids
and then i got more annoyed at the ezodiac's standardized colors because none of them are the same saturation or value and the hues are not EVENLY DISTRIBUTED around the color wheel. so i was trying to do math and make it work out like. rust/0 bronze/30 gold/60 0 30 60 is fine. but then lime is 75 and olive is 90. and then we jump all the way up to jade being 150.
but then everything else is evenly spaced after that. teal/180 cerulean/210 indigo/240 purple/270 violet/300 fuchsia/330. and then we loop around to rust at 0/360.
so instead of doing math to make hue slide/hue cusp mutations (because at the time i was doing something similar to PMG's EZ Project fantrolls but with fireheart's hemospectrum instead of the ezodiac) i uh.
well now i have 24 hue castes instead of 12. going by 15 degrees around the wheel. 0 15 30 45 60 75 90 105 120 135 150 165 180 195 210 225 240 255 270 285 300 315 330 345 (360)
and then i decided "oh i should make the grids go by steps of 6% instead of 5 because trolls are so bug and so hexagon it will fit thematically" so i had to redo the ones i made already
(steps of five was as normal. like 100 95 90 85 80 etc. steps of 6 is more complicated though)
(100 94 88 82 76 70 64 58 52 46 40 34 28 22 16 10 4 0 -> 18 steps)
and then i thought "wow wouldn't it be cool if you could randomly generate a blood color by rolling for specific hsv placement and presence of blood mutation and stuff. wouldn't that be so cool"
so i made a perchance generator (i am still working on it)
(i've made one for fantroll names also but i need to redo the phonemes and probability so stuff actually like. sounds good when you say it out loud)
(but also i say fef-errr-ee and not fe-fairy. so)
then i had a thought. "how does one tell between a troll with a place on a grid that's slightly out of the norm. and a troll who has a mutation"
so then i added Extra Spots to my blood grids. so a troll with a hue mutation will always have a blood color that is "off grid". and i wanted to evenly space those out so i put steps between each chunk of 3 for my normal satval grids.
so 100 (94 88) 85 (82 76 70) 67 (64 58 52) 49 (46 40 34) 31 (28 22 16) 13 (10 4) 0
(100 85 67 49 31 13 0 -> 7 steps)
and now i have to redo them again. to space out the chunks and add the new spots.
so for context;
24 normal grids of saturation x value which have 18 possibilities each (except anything that has a Value of 0 will automatically be #000000) (and anything with a saturation of 0 will always be the same greyscale color no matter what the hue is)
so that's 17x17 colors which is 289 colors per grid
plus the offgrid colors, not counting the v000 stuff because auto #000000. and not counting the s000 stuff since it'll be the same for all hues. that's 6x6 which is 36 minus the 100/100 corner which is a normal grid spot. 35 colors per offgrid.
so that is 324 colors per hue. and there are 24 of those. 324x24 is 7776.
plus all of the sat000 colors (which includes #000 so we're counting that in here) which is 18 colors. plus the other offgrid s000 colors (five more, since 100/0 and 0/0 are already in normal gridspots) 23 greyscales.
i am making 7799 blood colors and cataloguing all of them. and verypossibly making a fantroll for all nearly eight thousand of those.
"average person things about colors blah blah" hi i'm homestucks needle thinks about blood colors everysingle fucking day of my life. i am an outlier adn (sic) should not have been counted.
but good lord i am COUNTING.
i am doing math i am shaping my own bell curves i am plotting out dice rolls and card draws and if there is some eldritch incomprehensible being assigned to the concept of colors and vision it would tremble in fear of me and abdicate its throne in favor of my ruling.
polygon hire me to take over bdg's unraveled (joking)
BEGGING you to share your spreadsheets with the public i am so interested in what you have to say about bloodhex stuff!!!
hrghhrgnrh anon i am kissing your ring like in the godfather. thank you for enabling me
in advance; this will be Very Long.
readmore here?
so
if i edit this will it move to the top of my drafts
///// hi everything above this line is from february 2022. thank you for your patience. i've made an entire sideblog for it now @jovialrecordkeeper come join me in my color madness

Sorry to piggy back off someone else’s question, but do you know if Hitech really think they will get into F1? Andretti seem to be having real trouble getting some of the teams to agree their entry. Additionally, another 2-4 cars (although great from a driver perspective) are surely too many extra cars for a lot of the tracks F1 race on?
it depends how they try to do it. if they eg: took over Haas' engineering operations or were the next people to rebadge Sauber then it's very different to the totally new operation Andretti is proposing.
Andretti's said he asked to buy Haas and Gene won't sell to him but that's old US racing beef, so who knows if it'd be the same next time Gene gets the vapours about spending all his cash on F1, if the offer came from Hitech. or, since Hitech offer out their engineering (they did the first year of W Series) it could be the case that an F1 team decides to buy their engineering in that way, same as some FE and IndyCar teams do. Haas pretty much did it in their first year of operating and in a budget cap situation it makes sense.
those are both specific situations and the only way I see Hitech entering. I don't see them putting together the $200 million anti-dilution fund and I don't see the existing teams agreeing to let them enter. that's where Andretti is hitting difficulties.
in terms of the size of the grid I think getting to 24 cars would actually be fine. yeah, turn one might be a bit of a mess but it always is, potentially and then the field spreads out pretty rapidly. four more for the Monaco parade, baby.

Nyck de Vries - Overwritten Plans
So, this one. This wouldn’t be the next one, but as I just really couldn’t start the Marcus & Callum one yet (my mood wasn’t in the right place for that one), I had to get this done so I won’t get stuck. I really hope this contains enough angst for you, as after re-reading maybe I went a bit soft in between scenes 😅 I really hope you will like it Anon, and that you don’t mind me choosing Nyck. You didn’t give me a driver, and as I was watching back the FE season while writing, he just brought all the inspiration I needed 🥺😂 Thank you so much for requesting, and have a great start to your week 🧡🧡
Slight TW: car crash (no ones hurt, non descriptive), birth (non descriptive)
Masterlist | Taglist/Queue | Request
Having to watch all the races from home felt like torture. Going from travelling with him everywhere, to just sitting around at home and keeping up with him by phone calls and the TV coverage was strange. For the first 2 months I didn’t even mind as we were getting ready for the birth, but then nothing went as we planned. Firstly, we thought Nyck would have time to be home but then by getting a seat in Formula E he had to start the season in November already. If that wasn’t enough, my due date was at the start of January, meaning he would be able to come home, but it never started. When he was about to leave for Mexico city to continue the season, I was still sporting a bump and slowly giving up on anything happening while he’s still at home. The only thing I could hope for was the baby waiting for Nyck to get back home before going to Morocco as I really didn’t want to go through something like this without him. We didn’t plan everything just for fun, but because that’s how we wanted the birth to happen.
Before he left we managed to at least get me moved into his parent’s house, as he didn’t feel content with me staying home alone. I wasn’t the happiest with the idea, but with my family living far away it was the only way to get me under 24/7 supervision. I didn’t feel like it would be needed as I was capable of everything, not really affected by the usual pregnancy symptoms, but I just gave up the fight, knowing they wanted the best for me. I would also never give up company if it was offered so nicely to me, my relationship with his family helping the situation a lot. They always made sure I knew they looked at me as part of the family, right from the first moment of Nyck introducing me to them. After hearing so many stories about the families hating each other and not accepting of their kid’s partner, I really appreciated them. Going into our life together it was a relief that I didn’t have to fear them being dismissive towards me or trying to break us apart.
“ How are you? ” I heard his voice as soon as FaceTime finally connected, but his face wasn’t visible on the screen yet. “ And don’t you dare hold back just because I have a race. ” He added, finally leaning over his phone so I could see his face, which was a bit more serious than I thought it would be.
“ I’m fine, really. I don’t feel anything else than how I’m like a whale. ” I sighed out, a smile getting onto my face just at the sight of him. “ I just hope it stays this way for the next few days. Until you get back, finally. ” I added, fixing my position a little with leaning back fully. There wasn’t anymore a position that felt relaxing while sitting or laying down, as everything was just in the way.
“ I’m flying back as soon as possible. The team knows already, and they won’t mind me leaving all the packing up for them. ” He was trying to get ready and get his suit up over the underlayer while at the same time looking at me on his phone, which made me smile. He would have been quicker probably if he focused on only one thing, but I couldn’t get myself to just wrap up our call.
“ Yeah, thanks. Usually I would say you should stay and help, but… not this time. ” I shook my head a little, looking up at his mum with a smile when she entered the living room. “ Even if I have all the help I can ask for, it’s not the same. ” A sigh got out of me as I knew his parents did everything possible. Sadly they couldn’t help with how much I was missing Nyck since he flew out to Mexico. No one could, other than him.
“ I know… we planned everything for a reason, but sometimes life doesn’t go as we want it to. ” He took the device in his hand when the suit was finally on him and he could sit down on the bed. “ At least it didn’t go wrong, just didn’t work out as we wanted. ” He added, making me nod in agreement. He was right, it could have been a lot worse if there were complications or any health problems.
“ Luckily. And we will have time before your next race. Not a lot, but at least you can get home for a bit. ” I sent him a smile before I could hear someone open the door to his room and he looked up too.
“ We’re going to need you in like five minutes. ” I could hear his trainer talking while saw him nodding at the info before looking back down at his phone. I could see that he didn’t really want to leave, but it was still his job to go out there and drive the race.
“ Go, I’m gonna be here when you’re finished. ” I told him with a smile, seeing as he stood up with a sigh. “ Good luck, and be careful. ” I added, before the both of us sent a kiss to the other and not gladly, but put down the call.
While they were only showing interviews and some highlights from previous races I went to the kitchen to get a tea ready for myself. I knew the little amount of caffeine it offered would be needed, as I already felt a bit tired and we weren’t even at the start of the race. I patiently waited for the kettle to finally go off so I could pour the boiling water over the tea bag in my favourite mug. I was the first one to sit down on the couch with my legs pulled up, before Hendrik took a seat in the armchair to my right, paying a bit more attention to the reporters than I did. I was mostly watching because of Nyck, while his dad was more into the sport itself and was watching it even before there was someone we knew driving in it.
I felt a bit more energetic when the cars were finally on the track and soon took their positions on the grid. A smile got on my face as they showed Nyck’s car, still trying to hide it with the mug as I usually did. Sometimes it felt like I was too head over heels for him, but I couldn’t help myself. I couldn’t help either as I started turning the thin engagement ring on my finger, as it was a reflex for me at the start of the races. It was a kind of lucky charm for me to do so, in a way being there for him even if I was on the other side of the world sometimes. It usually worked and as they took off with Nyck up to second in just a few turns I could say it was successful once again. With a relieved sigh I went back to drinking my tea and slowly layed down when my back started hurting a bit.
We were almost half an hour into the race when I started to become a bit tired. Nyck’s start was perfect, starting at the top and getting a position almost immediately, but then was a bit unlucky and fell back a few. He was still doing good and had time to get back at them and fight himself up the order. I was just sitting up to look at Hendrik, who was in the kitchen behind the couch I was lying on, when we heard the commentators raise their voices. Turning my head back towards the TV screen I could see the white smoke around Nyck’s black Mercedes as he was trying to stop while going straight towards the wall. My fingers clutched at the blanket in my lap as on the way he hit Frijns, before he arrived at the wall and hit it quite hard. Luckily it was the softer barriers not just a concrete wall but you could still see how instantly the car came to a stop. My eyes were stuck to the screen as they showed his team and I was still holding my breath as his radio animation came up.
“ He’s probably okay. Wasn’t the worst crash ever. ” I heard Hendrik as he tried to calm me down, his hands coming onto my shoulders while standing behind the couch. Sadly it didn’t really work as they only showed replays and we could only hear Nyck’s engineer asking about him but there was no answer.
We stayed in the same position, my stomach turning at how they were still not saying anything. When the radio animation came up again and in the next second we could finally hear his voice a sob almost ran out of me. I had my face in my palms, leaning forward a tiny bit as my elbows were propped onto my knees. He still sounded a bit out of breath, his voice hoarser than usual which didn’t ease any bit of my anxiety as in the next second they were already back to showing the leaders. I knew that to them he was only one of the drivers, meaning they didn’t really focus on him while the race was still running. It was only when they showed him getting out of his car, which was already pushed off track, when I could let out the breath that was stuck in my lungs. He was in one piece and well enough to walk back to the pit on his own. That’s a good sign, isn’t it?
My phone was in my hands in an instant after letting it fall to the ground in the shock we experienced. I almost started ringing him, but realised he wouldn’t have his phone with him anyways and gave up on my idea. I was just stuck in my seat, waiting for any footage of him, but they never delivered, only keeping the cameras on the track. For a second I got scared when my device started vibrating and ringing with a well known tune that was linked to Nyck’s contact. Seeing his name on the screen was a surprise, but I accepted the call immediately, lifting the phone to my ears.
“ Are you okay? ” I was the quickest to start talking. “ I mean we saw you walking and that you’re alright, but did you hurt yourself? ” I couldn’t stop myself, hearing as he let out a quiet chuckle at my rambling.
“ Perfectly fine. Hit my side a little and I was confused for a second, but nothing to worry about. ” Nyck assured me, his voice having a calming effect on my anxiety as I could feel it leave my body finally. “ My ego is more bruised than my body. ” He added with a sigh and as he stayed silent I could hear the team behind him who were still working with Stoffel.
“ You can survive that I think. ” I smiled in front of myself, drinking the last remaining sip of tea I still had. “ Early evening then? ” I asked him, in a way not minding that I didn’t have to stay up for longer. Usually it took longer after the race ended to get him into a call, but today’s events meant after we were done here I could go to sleep quite early.
“ Guess so. I’m pretty sure you don’t mind it too much. ” The smile in his voice was almost audible, and I couldn’t deny what he said. Although usually I was easily functioning on 5 or 6 hours, in the last few months I needed at least 8 not to bite off someone’s head during the day.
“ I would rather you be out there than to have an early night. ” I shrugged a little, disappointed a little that this wasn’t a FaceTime call and I couldn’t see him. “ But there’s at least one good thing about today. After knowing you’re not hurt, of course. ”
“ Maybe I can even catch an earlier flight. Make the good list one bit longer. ” Nyck’s idea made me smile, as him getting home earlier was always great news. “ I’ll just pack up, thank the guys and leave if they don’t need me too much. Everyone will understand. ” He added, the background noises getting quieter as he probably went back to his changing room and closed the door on himself.
“ But only if they really don’t need you. ” I told him while taking a deep breath to calm myself down. Every time he got to travel home earlier than planned was exciting, but in this situation it was everything I could have asked for.
We disconnected the call after a few minutes of talking when it was official that the team would allow him to leave early. I always liked them and knew they were really understanding, supporting Nyck in his every decision since he signed to them. It was the same with his off-track life, as they acknowledged our situation and always made sure their driver could take part in scans and milestone events even after they started the season. Most would say this is the least they can do for their employees, but working in the racing world was usually cruel to your life outside it. You had to find the right place to completely feel supported and not lose control over your own life.
Keeping my unspoken promise, after getting off the couch I did call it a night and went to have a shower. I felt the last bits of stress leave my body as the warm water enveloped me for a few minutes, before I got some pajamas on. Falling into bed never felt better before and I closed my eyes with a content sigh. The house was slowly turning silent as I could hear Nyck’s parents taking turns in the bathroom, with his room right across it. First I thought it was only the few noises coming from the outside that kept me up, but even when the only sound was my own breathing and heartbeat it still wasn’t enough somehow.
Although I never truly fell asleep, at 5 a.m. it felt like I was waking up from the worst sleep of my life. It took a second or two to make me realise what actually woke me up as the pain around my lower abdomen and stomach slowly registered in my mind, and it immediately switched into panic. I got out of bed with a groan, slowly stumbling to the door and down the hallway so I could notify everyone. They were all quick to react, considering it was just dawn and they must have been tired still. While one of them helped me change into some real clothing and get the packed duffle bag from the wardrobe, the other one tried reaching their son, although he was probably on the plane already and didn’t pick up. My only hope was that either the flight will be shorter then announced, or I will somehow get to wait for him.
In the end it wasn’t my decision, but as I wasn’t dialating enough we were still just at the labor part, slowly crawling to the point where we could get on with it. I almost couldn’t believe what my eyes were seeing when Nyck entered the room, still with his backpack with him, and I was sure all the other luggage was either outside the room or in the car as he probably didn’t go home to drop them off. As my anxiety was over the top, the doctor letting us know that we should soon get to the birth as there could be complications otherwise, him getting here in time was the perfect surprise. Turns out it was also perfectly timed as just half an hour later we could finally take the last step, everyone other than me calming down that it won’t get to a cesarean. I truly just wanted to be finished with all of this and the pain. We waited enough for her.
Almost all of my energy and also strength was gone when the midwife finally held our baby in her hands, although there was an eerie silence around the room as she never cried out. I saw her getting up to put her down on a small counter and check over her, although she was completely blocking our view. My heart was stuck in my throat and I could feel tears running down my cheeks as we were waiting for seconds that felt like eternity. Nyck got my attention onto him by squeezing my hand and leaving a kiss on my forehead. I was just about to turn away from the scene and probably break down when we finally heard a little noise and then a baby crying. My head immediately lifted, looking at the midwife who was bringing the little bundle toward us with a relieved smile on her face.
“ She just needed a little bit of coaxing. ” She added with a quiet chuckle while handing her to me. My hands were still shaking a little but as seen as I felt her weight they finally stopped and let me hug her to myself. “ I’ll steal him for a minute, but make it real quick, okay? ” She asked, motioning for Nyck to follow her, probably to get a few informations and signatures from him.
With one last glance at the little girl he left my bedside, letting the grandparents get closer until he got back. It felt like I was in a trance, looking down at her and not really managing to break my eyes away from her now calm face. Time flew by without me noticing anything that was happening around me. I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that she finally arrived, that we finally had our Ilse with us now. Looking back at the last more than 9 months, it was unbelievable that we didn’t go crazy while waiting for this moment. Not knowing how this will feel, was probably our only saviour. When Nyck finally arrived back, I sent him a sleepy smile and welcomed his kiss, although I didn’t have the energy to do anything other than lay there and smile.
“ Would Dad like to hold her? ” The nurse asked when everything was finally cleaned up and organized, with only family staying in the room. They already had time to check her out while Nyck made sure the paperwork was done, before coming back into the room.
“ Yes! How could I say no to that? ” Nyck asked back with a low chuckle, following instructions and taking a seat in the armchair close to my bed with his shirt off for skin-to-skin contact. I gladly let the nurse take Ilse from me and carefully lay her down on her dad’s chest, before smoothing a soft blanket over them so they won’t catch a cold. “ Welkom in de wereld kleintje. ” He looked down at her and I could see as his arms gently enveloped her tiny body under the blanket.
I did catch a glimpse of his bruised ribs and knew they would be turning an angry purple color in the following days, but I couldn’t really care at the sight of them together. Whatever happened in the last few days was now really the past, being part of a previous chapter, and not the one we were living through now. It felt like such a big turning point, even if we have known for the last 9 and a bit more months that it’s gonna happen. It was a surprise that wasn’t actually a surprise, as we already knew what the gender of the baby is and approximately when she’s going to arrive.
“ This feels unbelievable. ” I stated, even though I knew he was probably thinking the same and I wasn’t sharing anything new with him. “ I really don’t know how we’re gonna wait another 9 months with the next one. ” I shook my head a little and could see as Nyck tried to hold back his laughter.
“ You just went through the birth, something that’s so painful I can’t even imagine how it feels… but you’re already thinking about the next one? ” He asked back, forcing himself to look up at me. His words made me think for a second, realising how surreal it sounded actually.
“ It’s probably just the hormones. Although, we did mention more, and not just one. ” I reminded him, shrugging a little and feeling as my eyes started slowly closing. “ But I need a nap first… probably a month long nap at least. ” I let out a yawn, but forced myself to look at them again, only letting sleep take over me when I saw that Ilse fell asleep too. This way I won’t miss a lot from her first moments.

Mid-Week Motorsport Headlines - 10th March 2021
F1
The FIA has released the results of its extensive investigation into the crash which involved Romain Grosjean, on the opening lap of the Bahrain Grand Prix. As well as the headline figure, of a 67G impact with the barriers, the FIA discussed what the issues were, which allowed the car to pierce the barrier, before then catching on fire. It should be expected that in the coming years, improvements to barrier strengthening, fire retardant clothing, and fuel cell lines, will all be made, to try and mitigate the risks which the drivers put themselves through, every time they race.
The three final teams have released their liveries for this season, the new Haas design has done nothing to keep them out of the news, as the Russian inspired livery is pushing the limits of what can be allowed, following the Russian doping scandal. The Williams car is receiving mixed reviews, with some loving and some not, I can’t decide either way personally, it isn’t bad, yet not stunning. The last team was Ferrari, who had their launch today, with a design which looked really nice, until they slapped a green Mission Winnow logo on the engine cover, which just ruins it all.
Nevertheless, with testing about to start, all the talk about liveries will be gone, and the focus will turn to the clock, even if we cannot learn too much from testing!
IndyCar
Colton Herta will have his dad calling the strategy for him during this season, and whilst a father-son combination like this has not worked for other families, like the Rahal’s, with them both being quite calm, it could work very well, and even help them to a title!
Carlin has finally announced, that Chilton will do what has now become his usual calendar in the series, doing all the road and street courses, as well as the Indy 500. Carlin has really struggled to get anywhere in IndyCar, after joining a few years back, they need some big signings either in the driver’s seat or in engineering, to boost the team up the grid.
Talks of Grosjean doing the oval at Gateway are getting stronger, with Dale Coyne saying he would field a third car to allow him to do so. At this point, the chances of him doing it are quite high I feel, as when you look at how his opinion has progressed in the past few months, by the time we get to that race, it could have gone much further indeed.
Formula E
The FE drivers have once again called out to the series organisers, to change the qualifying format, as they feel it has too large an influence on who wins the title. I can see where they are coming from, as the effect of being in Group 1 is not slight, it ruins the weekend in most cases for those six drivers. If they can find a fairer way to do it, or just one which produces less of a difference between the groups, then that could work much better. I understand the need to shake up the grid at each race, however this makes it feel almost scripted.
MotoGP
With pre-season testing completed in Qatar ahead of the new season, we were able to get a rough idea of who was looking fast. So, when Miller was able to break the circuit lap record, it certainly showed that they mean business this year, after a lacklustre 2020, especially for the factory squad. Aprilia were arguably one of the stars of the test, with Aleix topping two of the days, and feeling confident, even if he didn’t want to expect too much from this year’s campaign. Honda did not produce any of the top times, although we shouldn’t expect them to have completely fallen off the pace. Pol is still getting used to the team, and we have not seen Marquez turn a wheel yet. Yamaha were up near the top, with all the bikes showing pace, they just need to find some consistency to fight for the title. Suzuki and KTM were also fairly quiet, and whether this be sandbagging, or them not suiting the track, we should still expect strong years from both teams.
Other News
The historic 24 Hours of Le Mans, has been moved back from its usual June spot, to August, like it did last year, this should give it an even better chance of having fans at the event, and most likely help to bolster the hopefully packed field of cars. This year’s race will be very interesting given the new Hypercar format, as the sport enters a new era, which could become another incredible time for endurance racing, with so many big names returning.

Huh, we can know your list of 20 drivers you think would be on this blind grill? I don't deny it, it sounds very interesting especially because people would finally have to accept that being """cute"""" is not enough to deserve a seat.
In no particular order, based off the last few seasons featuring drivers from other series
Hamilton
Verstappen
Leclerc
Russell
Albon
Gasly
Hulkenberg
Perez
Norris
Sainz
Ocon
Alonso
Wehrlein
Bottas
Ricciardo
Ticktum
Vergne
Da Costa
Lotterer
Magnussen/Vandoorne
I feel like most of them are pretty self explanatory. I don’t really watch the junior categories so that’s why there’s only one (1) rookie. In an ideal world it would be a bigger grid, maybe 12 teams/24 cars. Because there’s definitely a few drivers who I think are worthy. Also I missed off some amazing drivers who I think would make the grid with more experience
Magnussen/Vandoorne because based off past F1 results I don’t think Vandoorne would be good enough. But looking at his FE results, he’s speedy.
#If you want me to actually explain any of them let me know#but dont tell me its bias because if it was you can bet ur ass the list would be a lot different#Anonymous

14. Did you ever meet a driver? If yes - what was it
like? I’ve met whole FE grid last year during autograph session. One thing that left the biggest impression – they’re all so tiny! I can google and I know most of them are short, but it’s not the same to see it in real life. I am 1,70 cm, I love wearing (semi)high heels, and I’m a bit overweight so I’m pretty sure I am bigger than all the drivers on FE grid. I wasn’t impressed with di Grassi – I’m trying to tell myself that we’re all humans but being rude to fans doesn’t seem nice… I was mostly impressed with Wehrlein (he smiled and tried to talk with fans even when the session hadn’t started yet) and Paffett (he suggested us to sign a new card instead of giving us the one that was already signed before, and he had a huuuge smile on his face all the time).
24. Dream motorsport related job?
I don’t know how the position is actually called, but I’d like to work with event organisation: fan experience, after parties, liveries’ opening, etc. Be a part of organising committee, stress over details, then watch it from the backstage and be happy if everything goes as planned. I was (and kinda am) working with event organisation / project management and I really like it, but I know that I will never turn it into “motorsport related job”.
6 already done.
Thank you lovely anon!

[did i say that right?] [2d grid, lattice group, regular tiling, periodic function] when you travel from left to right, and hit the right end of the matrix, you continue with the same values, from the last four steps. this is why i show a 'frame' around the 'web of sixteen'. inner symmetry. we start on the top left with M2. McLaren announce first driver for new Formula E team | Formula E
McLaren have announced three-times DTM champion Rene Rast as the first driver they have signed for their new Formula E team. The British outfit, most famous for their Formula 1 achievements but also currently competing in IndyCar and Extreme E, will join the FE grid at the start of its Gen3 era next year. Rast already has FE experience, having made his debut with Team Aguri in the 2016 Berlin E-Prix and then racing for Audi works team Abt in the series through 2020 and ‘21. From his 22 FE starts he has two podiums and a highest qualifying position of third place. His DTM success before that also came with Audi, and prior to that he won for the marque in GT sportscars. A week before being revealed as a McLaren driver Rast announced he would leave the Audi brand at the end of 2022, and he was named as a BMW factory driver for 2023 shortly before his FE drive was confirmed. “As a racing fan, McLaren has always had huge appeal,” said Rast. “It’s an iconic name in motorsport with a rich history, so I feel privileged and proud to be able to represent McLaren in FE next season. “I’ve done a season in FE before, it was a great experience, and I felt after that year I wasn’t done yet. I’m excited that I am now getting the opportunity to continue that journey. I’m extremely motivated and have no doubt we will create something great together. I can’t wait to get started!” Other highlights of Rast’s career include three Porsche Supercup titles on the F1 support bill, World Endurance Championship wins, victory in the Daytona 24 Hours’ GTD class, touring car and GT titles in his home country of Germany and second place in the 2016 Intercontinental GT Challenge. Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free The identity of his McLaren team mate is yet to be determined, as the team’s IndyCar contract saga could influence whether one of its drivers signed there moves across to FE for 2023. Nissan has also announced its line-up for the 2022-23 season. The team has parted ways with Sebastien Buemi and Maximilian Gunther, and signed Jaguar’s reserve and test drivers Norman Nato and Sacha Fenestraz. Fenestra will get his first full season at Nissan Nato won as a rookie with Venturi in the 2020-21 season but lost his drive, and since then has been winning in WEC as well as providing his services to Jaguar. Fenestraz, meanwhile, is currently leading Japan’s Super GT championship and is second in the standings in its top-level single-seater series Super Formula. He made his FE debut in the 2021-22 season finale in Seoul as a stand-in at Dragon-Penske for Antonio Giovinazzi. “I’m very happy to be making my comeback as a full-time driver in FE with Nissan,” said Nato. “The Gen3 era will be a new chapter for the championship, and I’m excited to prepare for testing and drive the car. Fenestraz, who made his Formula E debut at the final race in Seoul as a substitute for the injured Antonio Giovinazzi, said his full-time debut was “a dream come true.” “It will be a big step forward in my career, to move up into a world championship for the first time and to be competing at such a high level against some of the best drivers in the world. It’s going to be a different challenge for me as it will be my first season in an all-electric car.” Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free Formula E Browse all Formula E articles via RaceFans - Independent Motorsport Coverage https://www.racefans.net

FLP CHAPBOOK OF THE DAY: Choose Your Own America by Jon Davis
TO ORDER GO TO: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/choose-your-own-america-by-jon-davis/
In Choose Your Own America, his thirteenth collection, but the first to include his short fables, Jon Davis casts a cold eye on our moment, revealing our fatuousness and our nobility both. Though Davis hopes we’ll choose “The America of gracias in the market, / miigwech on the subway,” first we’ll have to look at other choices. From a chilling scene of the Minutemen militia drilling in a neighbor’s meadow in 1960 to an encounter with one of those men twenty years later to a “Fashion Report” that explores the relationship between fashion and historical events to a popstar’s unlikely visit to a hip western town that ends with the locals ready to celebrate her arrival with their “world-renowned tuba ensemble … honking from the gazebo,” Davis’s reach is broad and includes everything from pop culture references to literary allusions to excursions into philosophy and theory. Though the hope is that it’s “early in this callous and retributional century,” Davis imagines an apocalypse in which “the computers and videos [go] on without us, the animated characters dying and restarting, dying and restarting, the jingles floating out over the otherwise silent streets.” The second half of the book, though, holds out hope, as in the two-line prayer that concludes “Carnal in the Land of Blood & Beauty”: “Omen, we say, a sound / more lips than tongue—half ominous, half amen.” Or in unexpected moments: “Nothing to do for an hour, the sun shining. The lake. The water going out. The same water coming back in.” The book weighs such moments against the weight of history and finds, miraculously, that the scales somehow balance.
Jon Davis is the author of five chapbooks and seven full-length poetry collections, including, most recently, Above the Bejeweled City (Grid Books, 2021). He has received a Lannan Literary Award, the Lavan Prize from the Academy of American Poets, and two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships. His poems have appeared in numerous anthologies, including Four Quartets: Poetry in the Pandemic; Photographers, Writers, and the American Scene; Poet’s Choice; Sixty Years of American Poetry; The Best of the Prose Poem; No Boundaries: Prose Poems by 24 American Poets; and Telling Stories: A Writer’s Anthology. His poems have been translated into Spanish, Arabic, KiSwahili, and Vietnamese. He taught creative writing and literature for thirty years, twenty-eight of them at the Institute of American Indian Arts. In 2013, he founded the Low Residency MFA in Creative Writing at IAIA, which he directed until his retirement in 2018. He served as the City of Santa Fe’s fourth poet laureate.
ADVANCE PRAISE FOR Choose Your Own America by Jon Davis
“As an Immigrant-American, I believe that instead of that propagandic, bald-eagle-point-of-viewed country music video they show at citizenship ceremonies, we would do better with Jon Davis’ Choose Your Own America. These poems, both political and nipping at the heart, lyrical and essayistic alike, locate us inside a much more honest and existentially porous dystopian prophesy. Though it suggests we have choices, its disaffected tone makes our souls watch our every move. Where are the humans? it asks—and answers, too.”
–Ismet Prcic, author of Shards

I… am planning to watch my first ever Le Mans 24 hour this weekend.
Eep!
I will not stay up the whole 24H. My spine would stage a revolt and I’m in lockdown without easy access to my chiropractor.
Conveniently, it starts at midnight for me - I’m usually still awake anyway. So - watch the first hour, sleep and then just have it on all day Sunday?
Sounds like a plan. I’m mostly interested in JOTA because Stoffel (and Ant Davidson in the sister car! 😍)
But half the FE grid is there.
And Callum. (Headcanon Mick is hiding in the back of the garage- how glorious would that be be?)
Also according to Sebastian Montoya (thanks Prema!) the whole clan will be there watching Juan which amuses me.
