Well I'm not sure about every single being who makes this (cosmic nightmare) house a home

First up is the Ranch itself! A mimic in its final stage of life! They normally become dungeons or haunted houses but this lovely guy had the (mis)fortune to become a familiar with Moon in around the 1700's I'm pretty sure. And as a fully adult mimic it spawns thousands of baby mimics which end up replacing our furniture and the like.

im the anon who lurks in regretful parenting subs... Honestly, i'm believing most men simply do not like being monogamous thus why they feel like they're trapped in a relationship. Even when it's the men themselves that insist to get their wives pregnant, even if through inmoral means (some women talk about finding out their husbands removed the condom at some point while having sex), it's usually because they want to pass their genes more than genuine love for their wives and wanting to build a family with this person they adore.

Like it's not only the way they talk about their wives, but also that they see sleeping around as a thing to be proud of and men who can bed many women as someone to look up to. There's also that phenomenon of older married men ogling younger women even when they're with the wife, watching porn even if they're still having sex irl, and so on.

Honestly, I do feel like only a man of God could truly remain faithful for the right reasons. I guess that does go for some women too, we all have our faults lol but even then I unfortunately know some terrible cases. Like this Christian woman I followed who seemed to have a great husband and children, always talked about the importance of putting God first in your life, and even gave dating advice to women that wasn't about being submissive (wordly) and a pick me but was quite fds-y actually while still being biblical. Then she dissappeared for a long while and when she returned she admitted her husband had raped her and beat her. I was so heartbroken for her. She had to had a divorce and thankfully the husband went to jail, but she was left struggling with the trauma and four kids to feed.

To be fair, i'm starting to believe I might be seeing so much of this stuff because God wants me to stay a celibate. I'm convinced He wants me to focus completely in my religious path and in helping others and not get distracted with a husband and children.

The regretful parent sub is a mixed bag really

I understand the struggle of people who got one child and eventually regretted bc of all the changes and missed opportunities this pregnancy caused into their life, but I couldn't help but shake my head in disbelief at people ending up with 3 kids and finally realizing parenthood wasn't for them. Sorry but that's stupid and reckless.

I think it's unfair to put unplanned pregnancy on men alone bc a fair share of women are pretty reckless with their lack of birth control. Feminists will hate me on this, but women have the upper hand when it comes to birth control. Both men and women can poke holes in condoms, but women can also deceive men in having unprotected sex while pretending to be on birth control. A man removing condom is observable, a woman with or without birth control is not.

One post stuck with me about a man who had a little girl, divorced his wife, and regretted becoming a dad because being away of his daughter was too much painful and would rather never have a child to not feel such strong attachment to another human being. This was actually touching

And yes, I'm very wary of trad people flaunting their life online. This is the anti thesis of trad imo. Remember the twitter tradwife who was financially abused by her husband for years?? You never know what's going on behind closed doors

I will never this sentence I heard from pink pilled ladies "you can be a single mom while being married" That's why it is sooooo important to chose wisely your husband. No marriage no womb obviously, but also husband and wife need to explicitly talk about they will share tasks in the house. Many sahw struggle bc they are expected to work from home 7 days a week when the husband at least have a few days away from office. IMO I would ask a share of tasks on weekend. Like, daddy would take care of the kids and the wife would have some time off to focus on other/lighter tasks.

Vetting is also important. Men who never lived alone when in their 30s are a red flag bc there are chances dude can barely take care of a house and will use their wife like a maid/2nd mom. I said that bc I knew a girl who was dating a guy who lived with his ex, and as soons as they broke up, he went back to live with his mom.... That's suspicious.

I also pray a lot to God to remove from my way all the men who aren't supposed to be in my life. I pray for my husband. God already shown him to me (in dreams) twice so I know I'm good :) As much as I craved emotional intimacy, I also realized that marriage involves a ton of responsibility (+parenthood) that's why I'm less eager to find my life companion lol The years I spend alone and free to do whatever I like will never come back so I might as well enjoy them as much as possible. It really helped me to be more content with my singleness 💙

I'd say this isn't how humans work, but then, "I can haz cheezburger" was a thing for *ages* so maybe it IS how humans work, just on a different scale. While we do see how Caitlin is effected by the brainwashing here, it just ... isn't in a spectrum that speaks to me? There's absolutely nothing I *dislike* here, just nothing that I find particularly to my personal erotica tastes. But if you're the sort to enjoy someone's opinion on a thing being changed by regular exposure to other people treating using one as just normal, of seeing snippets of a world that's changing by something "off-screen"? If ever I needed evidence that Jukebox is not as big of a Rush fan as LadyR, this story sure provides it. (If you're dropping astrophysics/astronomy that 99% of your audience is just going to take as "ah, that's ... some sort of thing in space?" and you don't go for HDE 226868/Cygnus X-1, I can make the not-at-all shocking conclusion that you aren't a Rush fan). Off of the topic of me being both a bit of an astronomy nerd (though I did need to look up the binary system Jukebox named, I only just dabble really) and having an ever growing love of Rush, well. This story feels perfectly grounded in something that could have happened at any hypnocon I've been to. It's lovely and sweet and hot in all the right ways. Though now I want to send Eden to a class on bimbo play so she can both be reassured that plenty of smart, clever folk enjoy the temporary reprieve from *having* to be smart and also learn the language she needs to express what she wants to other potential partners. 9/10 spirals.

Another story with 4U, a heavily-brainwashed human. I still want to see how she got quite so thoroughly conditioned. And to learn more about these Masters. And just *everything* about this world. The constant narration of 4U, even as she talks about how perfectly she assumes a different role/persona is ... jarring, a little, though it *works* in the flow of the story. I just want more of the how and why. Especially in this story, where the conditioning of someone else is more a tag at the end than anything. 7/10 spirals.

Oh, this is an interesting one, and I'm left with more questions than answers about the Girls(tm), though I suppose that isnt' really the point of this story, though I'm sure the epilogue will have Implications. I ... am extremely put off by Ethan, by his posturing and aggression and just all of it - I've been on the receiving end of enough aggression from men who were just enough like Ethan, and have friends who have been hurt even *more* by men who reacted to discomfort with violence that I just ... I can't. I know what JB's going for here, and I"m sure it'll be cathartic for some folk, and just plain hot for others, but for me it just isn't. 3/10 spirals.

Ian, this is why I have a board game carrying backpack. Look into them, they're worth the investment. Also, Madison's place sounds like the house of a SCAdian Duchess I know... ANYWAY. I *love* the name Brian Shaw for a game company, A+ on cleverness there, Jukebox, and the game sounds like one that would be entertaining to throw together for a switch fight type game at a con sometime. And I appreciate Madison checking in before doing any sex-things, especially given we already had Ian's thoughts about caring so much about not being a creep making assumptions. it makes this all work, mostly, for all the consent could be better. I love the sense of how Ian's getting more and more caught by the game, too. 9/10 spirals

Oh hey, it's the hypnotic opal ring back!  We get to see Piper and her unnamed Mistress from "Doesn't Really Matter" (and wasn't that rather a number of stories ago, it was posted almost 2 full years before this story was!) as they get inside an unsuspecting traveler's head. This one's in 2nd person narration, which is a little trippy given just how hypnotic opals are - there's a reason one of my partners gifted me an opal necklace for Christmas last year, the fire of it just catches the eye... *anyway.*  If you're like me and have a pre-existing association with opals being hypnotic, the 2nd person narration may, um, have an Effect (tm). But it's a good story over all. 8/10 spirals.

The step-by-step process here is fun to see, even if I tend to prefer less disjointed steps myself. "Some of it was things she knew even before he told her" is just such a good line, and the way she seems completely oblivious to the changes being induced before that line is so good. Even if Dylan is rather taking a lot of advantage. But having had those "I have to get this sewing done" nights, even if it wasn't for a grade, I wish I'd had someone to make my hands go on autopilot! (also between this story and Head Games, gosh, I'm getting the itch to do more sewing. Thanks, Jukebox, I think? :P I do have some linen waiting for me to get around to washing and ironing it...) 8/10 spirals

This is sweet in a slightly twisted way. Like, it completely goes against my view of the universe entirely, the idea that the universe could want to pair anyone like this, but still. Accepting that the world of Jukebox's superheroes and villains operates on a different logic than the world I know, sure, ok, I can work with it. The reality of a power cutting both ways is so good here, and I enjoy the reality of Ursula's instincts warring against Epiphany's mystical instincts. It's a lovely story, however Dilettante tries to warp things. 8/10 spirals.

This is going to be primarily a writing-in-class day. I will go over what to read for tomorrow and the CR2 assignment, and then Angel and I will circulate to check in with you. I'll also be looking over your CR1 FDs while you work with Angel.

Tomorrow, we wil pick up reading with pages 1-3 of M.R. James's “The Mezzotint” (1904). Give yourself more time to read this, as it is British and from 1904, so the language differs from the other stories we have read.

CR2

CR2 Assignment Description

Model (Example) using a different passage "“You’re a—you’re a…” I said up to him, reaching for the sharp teeth he’d done such a good job of keeping hidden all these weeks.

“Yeah, yeah,” he said back, his big hand behind my head. “You’ve got to—if you want me to, if you want to live and not die, you’ve got to ask. Can you hear me?”

“Thought that was…thought that was houses,” I said. “Homes.”

“This is your house,” he said, tapping my collarbone, my body.

“Does it hurt?” I asked.

“Every fucking day,” he said, and he was right, Burned Dan wouldn’t lie to me, wouldn’t have lied to me, which is why, decades later, Boulder finally tall enough to hide the foothills from this same creek, I finally lay Dan to rest where I first met him" (Jones 8).

Dr. Sorrell's CR2 RD: I choose Ideas/Interpretation, Language/Style, and Timeline/Events. I also briefly mention a connection with something else outside our class.

Timeline/Events: This passage is essential. It's the only part that shows what happens AFTER the main action of the story (creek and vampire battle). It also connects the after to the before: "where I first met him" (Jones 8), and might suggest that Chessup, like Burned Dan, has been patrolling this area, maybe to make sure Julian doesn't emerge again. Dan knows the area because, early in the story, he says, "'The water used to run over there,' he said like a fact, then nodded to himself, adding, 'Bet it did, I mean'" (Jones 3). I didn't even notice this remark until I reread the story in class yesterday, but it's an early clue about Dan living a lot longer than his 58 or so years, especially since he corrects himself.

Language/Style: The grammar tells you that Dan is dead even before the sentence gets there; "Jones writes that Dan "wouldn't have lied" to the narrator. The tense shows that Dan is dead because the narrator changes from "wouldn't lie" to "wouldn't have lied." It's also interesting that Chessup never finishes saying "vampire here" because the word doesn't appear at all in the story, even though the "sharp teeth" and asking to be made into a vampire are both present here (8).

Interpretation/Ideas: Jones leaves it up to the reader to figure out that Dan is a vampire- probably Julian, as well. Maybe he is making fun of modern vampire stories like Twilight that are about love and relationships. Maybe he wants to write more of a gritty vampire story by trying to figure out what would actually happen to someone like Chessup confronted with this situation. So all the real-world references aren't just for entertainment but also to make the vampire stuff seem more possible. Stephen King once said something about "ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances," and I think that applies here (https://stephenking.fandom.com/wiki/Barnes_%26_Noble:_Meet_the_Writers). Of course, Chessup would rather live forever than die; he's probably not thinking through what this means, as there is a " hole expanding in and through my chest" (8).

I also like this idea about "houses" and "homes" because, honestly, it sounds deep and very intense; it also speaks more to 21st-century life, I think. Who is at home all the time? Chessup's home is inside himself, and that is, in a way, his biggest problem--and all of ours. We can't get away from ourselves. So, even if the main purpose of the story is to entertain, Jones throws in a bit of solid wisdom.

Outside Connection: This is just a small thing, but when Chessup asks if it hurts and Dan says, "Every fucking day" (8), it reminds me of the scene in the first X-Men movie when Rogue asks him Wolverine, "Does it hurt?" and he says, "Every time."

FD Signifier did a video about Kid 'n Play possibly being industry plants.

And he says they weren't, but also that the entire concept is stupid, because if you're not totally indie then you are generating money for a corporation regardless, so why the hell does it matter if they are merely exploiting your personal art, or they are themselves creating it?

And he also points out that lots of great artists became that in the first place only under the recording industry, because the labels had the patience and money to hook artists up with producers and writers who then worked carefully with them to grow them as artists. Solely so that they would generate more top-tier product for the label; but the art still stands as art, and wouldn't exist without that.

It's a little different now because with TikTok and Spotify, someone like Lil Nas X can get huge making tracks at home with third-party beats, and that is more organic. But even then, the platforms are all corporate and uploaded content has to conform to their upload standards, and us using those platforms is the only reason we saw it. And as soon as Nas broke out that way, he got signed by a label who then proceeded to spend millions developing him and producing music videos and concerts. The process feels new and different, but it really isn't substantially different than what traditionally happened, except now corporate broadcast radio has been cut out of the loop. There is slightly less gatekeeping on the front end. But Sony and UMG still control who makes most of the money, and its them.

You can certainly be totally indie and crowdfund everything and make a living that way, to a degree you never could before. But that is hardly the dream for most people uploading music. They're doing it to attract attention, to get signed.

And if an artist doesn't want to do all that social media stuff to get attention? Do they even get a chance at mainstream success, or are the labels done with selecting small artists and develping them in-house? And as corporate as that is, how many artists will we miss out on now, who may have benefited from that system? How many "great" artists would we have never had, if that "bad" system hadn't existed in the first place?

Also capitalism taints everything and we all needs must engage with it to survive, so getting snarky about different degrees of dependence on it seems arbitrary and immature.

Does it matter what color the milking machine you are hooked up to is?

That's my metaphor. FD wouldn't say it that way, because unlike me, he is a good writer.

So, all these bridges. Even that fits together, one process to another, the bridges and bridgers. Oh, that’s an interesting construction. I’ll keep that to myself.

I mean, you can see that if you spread apart an fD vertically, that it contains any number of HG’s. An fD maps over a 1-0Segment, meaning it connects End-to-End, which is 1-0-1. So this models continuing existence because an End would be the Object state within its various identity Things. So the Identity Space runs Between, which means the Counter idealizes to the Bhyp an the Observer to the bip. Which maybe now should be capitalized, meaning when in reference to the Observer, it can be Bip. But the concept has so many other representations because that puts Observer into each representation that bip works better because the lower case symbolizes ubiquity.

That maps because that fD constructs over a lot of dimensions. So this becomes an example of a K with the legs extending as the Bhyp translates into a 1-0Segment which counts as an Extent. Whoa! Put on the brakes. That was enormous: it means we construct Extents out of and as a map into a 1-0Segment. I feel like we just inserted the universe down Rama’s throat.

So, back to 13 as 12+1 where the +1 represents another 12, which means 26 represents IC in the form of 1-0//0-1, meaning 2 specified and 2 non-specified 12’s. So, if we attach 2 more, meaning +1 and +1, then we generate what? How do they attach? It’s a way of saying 1 for 2 and 1 for 2. That is, 13+1 completes, which makes 2, which makes 7, which counts the far edge of the focal bT in Hexagonal. That puts different process concepts together. Take the shift out by saying that 7 is 6+1, meaning SBE2 + attachment, which can be another SBE2, which makes 12, as well as 13, and it makes 14 when I see it count the other way too, meaning again that it completes, but clearer so the concept of odds counting to evens as completion of pathway choices works!

I’m getting lost. Back to 26. So, the 24+2 becomes 26+2, which is the same process of odds and evens, same pathway issues, Oh, but this extends to the next level. If we decompose first, then attach, we get 13+1 twice. Which means we can attach another 13 to each because then they balance as processes pointing at each other. That early conception of gs processes really was deeply correct. So that’s 4*13, which is 52, which is a deck of cards.

It’s also 12 away from CM64, which generates a process by which SBE2 links. That is, at 52, we have this IC form. That form is directionally complete in Hexagonal, which means it’s a pathway (and is odd). And that runs over 2SBE2, which is the House or Family identity, meaning it’s an Identity Space in which the identity checking SBE runs in that same double pattern. That is, it runs SBE and SBE, which can run back over itself (and look like 1-0-1-0-1) or it can stretch out to count 6 (and look like 1-0-1-0-1-0), so the 1 of the same chain run backwards attaches at the 0 End. So you can see a chain of process connects up to CM64.

What about CM28? It’s 26+2 becomes 52 fits to CM64. In this process description, not as the only process description. Try CM28 + CM36. That would group the ‘other’ 26, the other two 13’s, with that 2SBE2 link, meaning that would identify what is Not the ‘chosen’ 26 which makes CM64.

The other two 13’s have the same relationship to CM64. Is that saying ‘what’s not in either direction makes a Thing?’ Yes, that’s the inverted way of saying this is as far as this generated CM64 reaches. I’m blown away by that. Not expected. Need to take a break.

I'm not strictly referring to Hunter Biden although he's a big part of this situation. I don't really care what people plead when it comes to legal matters. That's not really evidence of anything as you seem to think. I care about what we know about what actually happened.

I think you're being very disingenuous by attempting to dismiss the FD-1023 form as "secondhand hearsay from someone who wasn't under oath" as that's kind of misleading about what it is. First of all, it's a very serious allegation of very serious crimes that comes from an internal FBI source, which is generally considered somewhat credible, or at the least the FBI have found this person credible enough to pay them six figures to perform investigations so an allegation of such serious crimes coming from within the FBI is worth taking a look at, don't you think? You're acting like it's a random anonymous source with no credibility and thus not worth anything. So either you're being intentionally misleading or you haven't looked into the "Burisma stuff" as well as you think.

Furthermore, you may have looked at the document, but do you actually know anything about it? This is an unclassified document and in it the person claims that there were 17 tape recordings of conversations between Hunter Biden, Joe Biden, and Burisma executives. But FBI Director Chris Wray, did not want to show this unclassified document to the House as they requested and it wasn't until he was nearly held in contempt that he relented and gave them the document but not before redacting information from it. One of which was the claim that there were 17 tape recordings. And when questioned about it he refused to say whether these recordings existed. So, pretty sus in my opinion. Linking to Chuck Grassley's site about it since he is the one who released the document and directly involved in the investigation.

There's also the WhatsApp text conversation from Hunter Biden that directly implicates Joe Biden. He was demanding payment from a Chinese business associate and threatened them with his father. The infamous line of "I am sitting here with my father" implies that if Biden was indeed there he is in fact guilty of the things of which he has been accused. This text, since it comes from Hunter himself, is a little thing called direct evidence. Now if they want to do GPS tracking on Joe to see if he was there they could easily do that. But for whatever reason they haven't. And Joe hasn't denied being there.

We also have evidence of Joe Biden's excessive use of a secret email address to communicate with Hunter's business associates.

There's the whistleblower's testimony of clear links between Joe Biden and Hunter Biden's business dealings.

Evidence of Joe Biden's involvement in his family's influence peddling schemes.

Oversight Committee has uncovered mounting evidence tying Joe Biden to family business schemes.

“We found 170 major bank violations. These were from six major banks, and they alleged that the Bidens were, among other things, money laundering, and receiving suspicious wires from state-owned entities. […] The bank is alleging that the Bidens took a suspicious wire from the Chinese government, and then laundered it through these shell companies. Many laws were broken there.” “We also learned nine Biden family members have received money from foreign entities, including the President’s granddaughter, who received a wire that had been laundered to the shell companies from Romania days after the President left Romania when he was Vice President. That’s hard to explain. “The Bidens received over 20 million dollars. My question to you: What did they do to receive that money? No one can answer that question.”

This is just a little bit of the evidence that is being discovered daily implicating Joe Biden. That document is not the "the best evidence."

Trump was impeached and indicted for far less than this. So even if you want to wave your hand and dismiss all this evidence and give some reason or other why you don't think it's credible, you cannot honestly say the standards are the same. And you cannot honestly say there's less evidence against Biden than Trump.

And you "know" police were attacked on Jan 6 because the DOJ told you they were and charged people with crimes? So now the DOJ is credible? I'm aware of the ridiculous Jan 6 hearings and trials. But what I'm interested in is the actual evidence you have that makes you "know" these things happened and not that you know it happened because the DOJ told you it did. Who was assaulted? Who was the assaulter? What happened? What evidence was presented at the trial that convinced you of their guilt?

How do you explain the videos of Jan 6 that showed the police guiding the protesters around the capitol and letting them into various rooms? I'm honestly done with people who still claim Jan 6 was some kind of attack or insurrection. It wasn't and you can see it not be any of those things on the video recordings of the event. If you're going to just trust the DOJ because they charged people with crimes and there were criminal trials I can't say I have much respect for your source evaluation and research process.

As to the Biden Families crimes; All that is asked is that the same standards of proof be made of them as is afforded to Donald Trump. No one sitting in their armchair knows more about any investigation than what the Justice System knows. The same standards apply to both Democrats and Republicans when it comes to investigations. To call one act more political than the other is disingenuous. Especially to the American People. I just wish that the old Republican Party would reemerge as it used to be and not this Trump Republican Party. This cult as it were. I would say this for the current Democratic Party as well.

I do agree that the Republican Party is basically split into pro trump or anti trump groups and it would be nice if it wasn’t defined by trump but the truth is he exposed a lot of corruption in both the democrat party and Republican Party and has kind of woken a lot of people up to the major faults in the system. So this is kind of a new age for politics in a way and I wouldn’t call people who view the Republican Party and trump as a cult because that’s not what it is.

And I also agree we need the same standards of proof regardless of who it is. Not like it is now where with trump you can have no real evidence or proof and try to brand him a criminal and have all the evidence in the world for Biden’s crimes and it just doesn’t matter because he’s a democrat.

tod - chaotic evil. goes on “aesthetic” islands and complains about the lag. hits his villagers with a net, gets the dlc to ruin all their houses, draws phallic imagery on the message board, completed ONLY his fossils. he has themes broken up around, mainly just what he calls “AAAAcore” and it’s a bunch of decoy ducks. would probably have - pate, curlos, chadder, velma, hippeux, limberg, claudia, broffina, nibbles and harry

carter - plays but only to be a completionist. tries to get all the nook mile achievements, spends hours time traveling for redd to complete the art section of his museum, completed his critterpedia in a month thanks to time traveling. doesn’t care what villagers come through, lets them leave whenever (except for one!) and just has a regular island. would probably have - eugene, jambette, boyd, lionel, goose, drago, bill, benedict, boomer (never letting him leave) and huck.

terry - actually tries to make her island cute. will (and had) cried over failing to catch a bug or fish. she pours hours into decorating various parts. her theme is sort of gothic, but still tropical if that makes sense. all her villagers are staying forever, and she will always do tasks for them unless she’s in a bad mood. in that case she’ll yell at her switch “FUCK OFF.” and hit them with a net. would probably have - muffy, bella, quinn, cole, pekoe, winnie, queenie, diana, katt and gloria.

billy - watches information videos daily. knows all the different dialogue options and percentages so he can have a perfect island. faces an internal battle of hating kidcore and wanting to make an island kidcore. he has been playing for two years and failed to complete his museum. his house is near empty but everywhere else is beautifully decorated. would probably have - clyde, dom, pietro, tangy, bud, stitches, peaches, bluebear, punchy and teddy.

i kid you not, i read so much imperialistic crap when I was logged on ficbook, it literally radicalised me, it was my villain origin story, full on jokerisation.

there is everything from ru propaganda textbooks you ever heard. ru descending from kyivan rus, ru being a "brother" to Ukraine and Belarus, ussr being this happy common family house, Ukraine wanting to interact with her "brother" but her government forbidding it, Belarus wanting to be one with ru and so much more it's insane.

i literally read a fanfic where ru launched a full scale third world war and it was portrayed as good and justified thing because eu and usa kept calling him an Empire of the Evil.

But ru CAN see it an he is oh so worried that Da Rotten West ™ would hurt his "sister" and exploit her. Yeah, it's the dominant narrative in the ru hetalia fd, and it has been all these years AFTER the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2014, after the annexation of Crimea, after everything. After r*ssia already has been hurting Ukraine for 9 years. after they established a torture chambers and concentration camp for POWs, after they began to marginalise crimean tatars.

Hetalia ru fandom is vile. these people were 12-13 and older teens when the war started. and yet they jumped on this bandwagon of state propaganda without any objections like it was a natural thing to do. and they kept this narrative alive for all the 9 years of war. and after the full-scale invasion they were writing vile and nasty shit to ukrainian writers who tried to spread awareness about the war.

there is no redeeming explanation for this. a genuinely hope the all will regret it in the end.

This one is just *cute.* Like, also hot, but the two of them are *cute,* and I really hope they continue to be happy with each other. Mindy and Grant just click in a way that works so well, and I do enjoy that they started talking over the Silmarillion - those moments where the characters have those non-sex passions and interests always make them feel more real, make me more invested in them. And the way things went, well. It's just fun. 10/10 spirals

Another superhero story, and a twist I didn't see coming! I won't spoil it, but the way this story builds and ends is A+ storytelling, in my opinion. And the use of "I won't do it" "Resist? Of course you won't" is SUCH a good exchange. Though I may regret giving any of my partners reading this that one to use against me in the future (but only in the most fun version of regret). I love how we can feel Huang's desire and ability to resist fading away as he spends more time exposed to the intoxicating perfume, too. 9/10 spirals

EEEEEE Amy and Dawn are back!! And oh gosh, Jukebox captures the emotion of a long-distance hypnotic relationship in this one. Granted, my calls with partners tend to have less sex in general, but the control, the power .... oh, that feels *familiar.* It's so sweet, too, around all the heat, and my heart melts at the way these two clearly love each other. Having done that tranced out, barely-audible "I love you" more than once, I love that that bit gets included here as well. And the last line.. oh, *that* is a line that's going to stay with me for a very long time, I think. 10/10 spirals, despite the sex-heavy lean, because I love Dawn and Amy just that much.

Opals are hypnotic. So much so that even *non* kink writers have described their hypnotic effect in their stories - including my favourite author, Tamora Pierce. That fact aside, this is a well handled induction, one that could only be pulled off with someone who's used to people obeying her without question - as this nameless lady surely is. And Jukebox's description of the fire in an opal is *lovely,* though it makes me wonder what kind of opal she has. Maybe a black opal? It doesn't really matter, though. It's hypnotic whatever type of opal it is. The story has a lovely focus on how Piper responds to the opal, and I enjoy just about all of it. 9/10 spirals

Right, this is an interesting story. Not necessarily to my taste, mind, but *interesting.* The idea of a magic spell forcing someone to think of the caster any time they're aroused is a clever one, and will cause strong associations, for sure, but story's focus just is a bit of a miss for me. 6/10 spirals

But the rest of this is ... alien flora aren't my go-to, so I'm not sure I can rate this one at all. This one requires a little reading between the lines to see the control, but it's a solid story all the same. The vibe of the control is solid, and you can tell that both our narrator and the gal she's talking with had been effected by it. The cause of the footsteps makes perfect sense, if you do that reading between the lines. 7/10 spirals

This feels like an obvious outcome to me, it really really does. Maybe I just consume "too much" mind control media, but I would have been *super* sus AF of the tapes after the first one viewed. Ok, yeah, that's definitely a use of genre saavy. But still, there's only one place this story was ever going to go, and the way it gets there isn't all that satisfying to me. She just doesn't notice the process at all, until she's responding to the conditioning, and that isn't my personal preference. 6/10 spirals.

默读/Mo Du/Silent Reading by Priest (danmei)

Hello! I just finished reading Mo Du for the first time, and thought I would make a rec post for it. This is just my personal take, so if you disagree with me, that’s totally fine. Additionally, this is a positive-focused recommendation, for me, the good outweighs the bad by far. All images in this post come from here.

Why I’m recommending: As a fan of the crime genre, this novel definitely stood out to me in terms of plot and the development of the cases spanning three generations. I enjoyed how the narrative explored human nature, and what people are capable of when driven to their wit’s end. Do they pull themselves out of the trenches, or do they give into schemes and fall into misery? The novel ultimately centers around finding justice through fair means, the pursuit of the truth, and perseverance.

Priest jam-packs this novel to the brim, and there’s not a wasted word. The intricacy, the way the cases are layered, and the humor all made this novel well-worth the read for me. Even though my brain hurt at times trying to keep track of all the details, I was completely sucked in and couldn’t stop reading. 

The Characters

Luo Wenzhou, the protagonist. He’s confident and very blunt in his communication, but he’s an excellent leader who shows his care for his teammates through actions, and is well-respected by them. He plays the “bad cop” in the good cop-bad cop interrogation scenario haha. 

Fei Du, the flirty CEO with a tragic past. He’s very intelligent, well put-together, and can wear different faces to achieve what he wants. Despite how he comes off, FD has a network of people he cares for and who trust him. 

Tao Ran is LWZ’s right-hand man and also his best friend. He’s easy to like because he’s just simply a good guy and works hard at his job. Despite his capabilities, he’s a little slow-witted and clumsy on the romance front XD. He plays the “good cop” in the interrogation room :).

Lang Qiao is the upbeat female on the team and often mourns over working overtime. Xiao Haiyang is the new member; he tries really hard and is quite smart, but is not too adept in social-situations. 

Luo Yiguo is LWZ’s fat cat. Yiguo actually adds an interesting angle to the story as he gets his own point of view. One of my favorite parts of the novel hehe.

In addition to LWZ’s team, there is the web of witnesses and suspects. They all have their own unique flavor to them, and reading each of their stories, no matter how minor, is more insight into Priest’s exploration of the human psyche. Some stories will make you sad, and some make your blood boil. 

The romance (Luo Wenzhou x Fei Du): From my experience, I think that this novel is crime first, and romance second. With that being said, ZhouDu is (probably) my favorite ship out of all the danmei novels I’ve read so far. Their relationship is so heartfelt and down-to-earth despite their backgrounds. They both love all parts of each other, and their relationship provides them the space to relax and be themselves. I also appreciated how it wasn’t a “love at first sight” situation; they needed to get to know each other more beyond the scope of their initial meeting. The romance is developed at an impeccable pace, and it is an absolute delight to see the both of them slowly but surely, fall in love with each other. It also doesn’t get in the way of the developing crime-oriented plot. There’s a super nice balance of flirting, angst, fluff, humor, intimacy, conversation, and domesticity. They aren’t overly sappy, just really solid and satisfied with what they have, and that made me really happy. 

Listen to the ending from the audio drama!! I think it sounds really beautiful and the lyrics are good too. I love how its framed as a duet between LWZ and FD. 

Just a few moments I enjoyed under the cut. Spoilers ahead, so proceed with caution. 

one of my favorite scenes was in Book 5, after Tao Ran gets hospitalized due to an accident while pursuing a suspect - LWZ tells FD the story about coming out to Tao Ran - it made me cry because it showed how much LWZ values his friendship and how worried he is for TR ;-;

When LWZ picks the lock to FD’s room after they argue over FD’s mother’s case & LWZ discovers the basement - LWZ pretty much confesses (disguised as a lecture), feeds FD and then drags him to work - poor FD is just like ????? 

When LWZ forces FD to confess his feelings - it was such a satisfying scene - but they aren’t official until later - LWZ also forces FD to make their relationship official which is another gratifying scene

How LWZ’s teammates still listened to his command after he was suspended - it shows how much they trust and respect him

The entire operation where LWZ, FD, and Lu Jia rescued Lu Guosheng - it was such an action packed scene, I honestly thought Lu Guosheng was going to be killed at some point

When FD goes to LWZ’s house to feed Yiguo and discovers the croquettes that weren’t put away were destroyed by Yiguo and FD needs to clean up the mess hahaha

The two times when LWZ gives cilantro buns to Lang Qiao as punishment because she offended LWZ and his romantic life lmao

How LWZ always lectures FD when he’s being troublesome
