What does the muscle/skeletal anatomy of your bat people look like now? I know they must've changed over the years like the quetzalin.

since they were only created for the tutorials I made, I haven't actually been drawing any bat people lately. but! my skills in anatomy have improved since those old posts were made, so yes there are differences in how I draw bat people now vs back then lol.

I stand by the ideas in those posts, it's just how I drew the visuals that needs some improvement. artistic comparison time!

in the second image, the wing musculature is almost the same as the first, but with a little more accuracy in its detail. here, the arm shoulder is lower and more forward on the torso, so the secondary muscles around it sit below the larger wing muscles instead of being squished between them. the rest of the body is also different, as the first image shows a mostly human face shape and legs, while the second image shows more bat like features. the tail here is also much longer. end description)

tada! new and improved bat wing musculature. moving the location of the "normal" arms is also a fix I made to the quetzalin, and I think it does a lot to improve the anatomy! it's less intuitive, because it looks so much less human, but it does free up more space for the wing muscles, which is important.

Fear demons are very Creepy Crawlie based! That being said nearly all of them have amphibious/reptilian traits! Though they don’t have blood they do appear to at least feel cold blooded and do enjoy similar activities that reptilians might like sunbathing or anything equivalent!

Fear demons have Very thick and long tails, some have tails that end in fins or have extra fins on the side but that differs from demon to demon. Most fear demons have black sclera or entirely black eyes that are Very sensitive to light leaving them to only coming out at night which is both great for feeding but sucks because they get limited sunlight unless wearing sunglasses :[

Fear daemons tend to be cooler/dry colors! They’re not exactly pastels, think more calm and soothed colors that blend in w their surroundings.

For Example (of a standard fear demon): The Caller Boi is a light grey, fully scaled demon with a long tail that’s finned at the end and has smaller fins on the side! His tongue is fully that of a lizard (he can grab food with it!) and is forked, he also has heat pits underneath where his nose would be! His hands and feet are clawed and his hair is long, black, and oddly limp. His hair is incredibly long and always vaguely sopping wet looking, it also kind of looks like deep dark Kelp.

Most fear demons have longer hair/hair that very much seems uncared for, either too oily, or too dry, or too wet. Very much unnatural/uncomfy looking. Their eyes are usually obscured by their hair to keep them safe and few fear demons feel a need to show their eyes since the whole “Tall, oddly colored, long limbed creature in your room watching you” thing is enough to get a reaction and feed as is.

Most fear demons Do Not wear clothes. They don’t actually have any genitalia or defining features sexual and the effort to make clothes at both fit their proportions, feel comfortable against scales or oddly smooth/silky/slimey skin, and have tail holes is too much for any of them to Want to do unless they genuinely find it fun. So if you see one of these guys in public, don’t stare. They’re just doing their thing. Also they will notice you and will end up following you home :] (fun new buddy who definitely loves you)

Fear demons tend to either have flopped/lop ears or no ears at all! Their ears can still be perked to look for prey to pay extra attention to things if needed but are most comfortable flopping down and staying there. The chances of you touching a fear demons ears are slim to none since you will almost assuredly lose your hand afterward.

Empathy daemons very much got the best end of the deal as most of them are Chimeric in nature and therefore have a variety of mismatched animal traits! Where as other demons have traits that come directly from on family/class of animal, Empathy demons can and will have Any. (Though seeing mammalian traits is very common) This can go from mismatched fur and skin patterns to even each of their limbs. Being the most animalistic trait inheriting variety of demon, it’s incredibly helpful that Empathy demons aren’t able to be seen by their charges for a certain amount of time as this typically allows them time to be able to disguise their forms into something vaguely more human. Caelum is still struggling with this, thus his odd eyes and two sets of animal ears.

Though since that’s been repealed in canon (since it was causing empathy demons to have weird attachments to their charges due to being unseen) more people will probably be having what they assume to be visits from “angels” (more on that below)

Empathy demons are often mistaken for angels are where the idea of angels comes from somewhat! Truthfully the Sovereigns are what the concept of angels comes from but after their disappearance and the much more common appearance of Empathy demons to those in need, empathy demons became the standard as well as the saying “Do not be afraid” because seeing a creature that’s part every animal is Very Scary.

Empathy demons are all born Incredibly short but grow to be one of the tallest kinds of demons! For example: Caelum was the shortest in his batch/litter of empathy demons but this means that he’ll grow to be the tallest and above average size for an Empathy demon! Which will be very inconvenient when he tries to visit freelancer and is now a good 8 feet tall (please be nice to him he hates being too tall to be held it makes him sad)(also Caelum is right handed by choice but all demons are ambidextrous…I couldn’t find anywhere else to fit this hc in so shush)

Empathy demons are born in litters/batches! Batches are used to refer to litters that have been born (typically 1 to 2 at a time otherwise the word litter will just be used interchangeably if it’s less than 2) while Litter is used by the demons in said batch to refer to themselves and their siblings that were born.

For example: “A couple new batches of empathy demons were born, they will NOT stop crying about someone taking their toys.”

“Oh me and my litter used to do that, have you tried just labelling the toys with their names?”

Empathy demons can be born with duplicate limbs! So there’s like a non-zero plausibility of there being an empathy demon named Tails who does In Fact have two fox tails. He would not find this funny. (But he would love tails and name himself Miles after him)

This can span from multiple arms on their torso to multiple tails, wings, ears, or even horns! Caelum has been known to have two tails on occasion but primarily is known for his two sets of ears! One resembling a bear or lion cub and the other resembling a lamb.

Concubi (incubi and succubi) have the Least animal traits as it would generally be hard for them to shift and disguise if they had the amount of traits other demons had. This leaves them feelings rather put-out by other demon groups and it’s very common for Concubi to be jealous or upset because of their lack of traits. Sure it’s great for catching food and all but it feels like a denial of their demonic attributes honestly. Being mistaken as human by other demons and humans themselves is a common and very down putting experience for concubi, while some embrace it and the ease it gives them to catch food, many reject this idea and will try and make their animal/demon traits more apparent.

It’s very common for concubi to have ur standard demon tail and a thing layer of fuzzy/fine fur as well as clawed hands and sometimes feet! It’s more uncommon to have cat eyes and slit pupils. Almost all concubi have long elf like ears and if they don’t then that’s very rare! The outcome of that is either having human ears (extremely rare) or some form of animal ears (even more rare) Obviously it’s much more favored by the general concubi population to have animal based ears and those that don’t have normal ears or animal ears will disguise their ears to be normal and elf like but demons can always tell when one another are using magic to hide themselves, so this trick only works on non-demons or humans

Gavin has a fair mix of uncommon and common traits for incubi! He has fairly long animal like ears (similar to a sheep/goat or rabbit), hooves, and claws! But for the most part it's not incredibly hard for him to shift and pass as human which is a mixed bag as far as he's concerned with how it makes him feel. He definitely has More traits than the average concubus but the ones he has are incredibly concubi specific, meaning they're as minor as genetically possible for him to pass as human when shifting. Think of it like being double jointed. Is it uncommon and kind of weird? yes. Is it something noticable that's going to come up every day unless you show it off? No. It's a minor oddball trait at best which sets him in this weird spot of either being idolized by some concubi for his traits, demonized by others for his lack of conformity with human standards, or being denied his demon-status due to the simplicity of his traits. It's a very hard topic for him.

At the least he's lucky that there are Very few sadism demons left out in the world, it would give him an even bigger complex of problems. (Sadism demons are basically what would happen if you took Concubi genes and pumped them with steroids. EVERYTHING about their genetics is more obvious. While Gavin has retractable claws, a sadism demon might have claws that never retract. Cats eyes that properly dilate in every light, more markings as well as markings that are more blantantly obvious. Fangs and tusks that protude from the mouth and glint in the light, whiskers and antennae that properly feel and catch every change in movement. Compared to a sadism demon, an incubus is just a chubby house cat playing an unconvincing game of pretend to a big cat. Really, if you asked Vega he would say their lives are spent playing a charade of pretend, a mockery of what a real demon is. they're practically human.)

Research Log 1: Location: East (Barcelos, BR), South (Parque Nacional Serra da Mocidade)

Subject Discovery: Subject 'Ann' discovered via miscommunication during incentive transfer. Live specimen of 'Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris' lost in transfer. Attempt to recapture failed; Researcher made for adequate substitute. Escape from 'Ann's attempt to eat Researcher successful. Process included calling out, biting, begging and feigning despair. 'Ann' did eventually release.

Observations: Subject does not understand English or Español. Has minimal communication with local tribes, but understands small vocabulary. Vocal chords likely not completely developed through lack of necessity. Communication conducted via gestures and rudimentary word associations. Skin shares thin and elastic attributes of Eunectes genus on superior and inferior planes. Subject resorts to armor plating along trunk and head for protection from sun exposure and attacks. Hair is nonexistent on the subject, as are most traits indicative of Homo sapien. Heat pits sit under the eyes, with possibility that they are connected via the same nerve or very similar ones via separate foreman channel. General eyesight is less than 20/20; the heat pits likely make up for this especially while hunting underwater. Lower extremity has prehensile capabilities. Distribution percentage between superior and inferior halves proposes predisposition towards ectothermia, possibility to exhibit endothermic qualities up into mesothermic. Facial creases make expansion of jaw and consumption of large prey possible. Hunting seems to have no particular timeframe. Ambush via the water explains both the additional, transparent lens below the eyelid as well as vertical pupil shape. Adipose tissue centered around upper rib cage. Extensive research finds the deposits create insulation around section no longer anchored by a sternum. As well it potentially guards against lower temperatures, an attempt to breach exothermic tendencies and further supporting mesothermic regulation.

Research Log 2: Location: International Coastal Rd 10, West of Cairo, Arab Republic of Egypt.

Subject Discovery: Subject 'Wedjet' encountered among group of traveling vendors. Wares sold by subject include: -Sections of shed removed from Subject's lower region -small vials of yellow liquid, later discovered to be self-extracted venom chemically identical to venom produced by Naja haje.

Observations: Subject 'Wedjet' seemed to hold reservation against analysis. Incentive offered to provide testimony includes: - All (4) remaining specimens of shed from subject (3000EGP) - 3 vials (1.5mL each) subject-extracted venom (4500EGP) - Massage Therapy administered by Researcher during analysis. (RESEARCHER NOTE: I think I just got taken for a ride. I'll need to check what the exchange rate typically is for such things. Pretty sure the massage was just to see what she could get away with asking for; at least she let me keep enough cash on me to travel back.) In contrast to previous Subject, 'Wedjet' is well adapted to life among Homo sapiens. The caravan 'Wedjet' travels with are of no relation. Their discovery of each other is recounted as, quote:

"I was just a snakelet when they found me. They couldn't stop the men that took...them from me. But they found me, left alone in the house, and no one to care for me. That's all in the past now. What happened: happened."

Speech observed to be inhibited while hood is flared. As with Naja haje counterpart, extension of the hood is a conscious effort, only able to sustain position for up to 3 minutes. (Per Subject testimony) Further observation reveals rib structure continuing from trunk section, from vertebrae C7 to C3. Heat pits follow similar position as Subject 'Ann', with differences in size and count. 'Wedjet' expresses aggressive-style humor; on more than one occasion during testimony alluded to sensations of arousal when none were present. Hypothesis of exploitation expressed on part of the Researcher.

Research Log 3: Location: West of Bluewater, NM, USA

Subject Discovery: Researcher was provided local information regarding location. As well provision requirements were noted, namely hiking equipment, personal firearm protection, and guide (RESEARCHER NOTE: 'Guide' being a local from town who can vet that I wasn't there to either steal her cows, invoke Eminent Domain, or capture her for exploitation)

Observations: Subject 'Cera' is an interesting mix between Subject 'Ann' and 'Wedjet'. She lives close to settlements of homo sapiens, but chooses little to no contact with the wider populous. the only forms of contact seem to be from members of the local Indigenous American tribe. They are explained by 'Cera' as, quote:

"...My Middlemen. I, by most accounts, don't exist. But I ain't [sic] survived this long on coyote meat and bunkin' in barns. I raise the cows they don't have means to raise, I get left alone, and we split whatever we get from market; meat and cash."

Subject has been observed practicing eating habits indicative of homo sapiens, with three consistent-sized meals over the course of the day. This is noted in contrast to other observed subjects who otherwise practice eating habits indicative of ancestry. 'Cera' denotes the reason being that an otherwise conventional Lamia eating-style leaves room for predation of stock. Venom naturally produced by Subject's venom glands are noted to not be used in day-to-day life. Similar to 'Wedjet', 'Cera' provides venom samples both for medical antivenin production, as well as private sale. Growths above orbital section speculatively classified as 'horns'. 'Cera' notes they have never shed, but the left one has sustained injury in the past. Quote:

"Sumbitch [sic] had me holed up at least a month. Busted the end off and everything. You can't see it now; this was when I was first startin'. Don't stand behind a steer if you don't want to get kicked. That one made a damn-fine steak."

Research Log 4: Location: Tokyo, JP

Subject Discovery: Initial lead discovered via r/Cryptids (Reddit). Post contains 5 second video of Subject, rolling away in similar fashion to above illustration. Contact with poster helped track subject to near Nakano, Tokyo, Japan. Four (4) nights were expended in search of Subject, finally found exiting a local 7-Eleven.

Observation: Subject 'Chise' describes herself as a "hikikomori" (ひきこもり) a colloquial used to describe individuals experiencing severe social withdrawal (self-imposed and otherwise). Despite this barrier, she does sustain herself using an animated virtual avatar to interact via social media ('VTubing').

'Chise' exhibits higher 'tolerance' for alcohol in comparison to home sapiens. Specific variable that enables this is not yet known, and may require further research.

'Chise' maintains dexterity exhibited in other subjects, despite tail and body lacking similar length. Example provided includes tucking and curling tail into ring formation to assist in locomotion. Speed clocked at 6KPH.

Researcher requested by Subject to maintain communication. Request pending approval. If request denied or slow in turnaround, independent approval will be authorized.

Some of the solver drone wing anatomy. The hands are based mostly on Uzi's. The elbow to shoulder part (not sure what to call this section exactly). Is based more on V's since we get a better view of it after she attacks N. Very bony, very creepy, very nice.

They're similar to a bat wing, with some notable differences.

We have the extra digit on the hand, of course.

The skin that connects the top of the upper and lower arm is absent, like in many dragon designs.

What looks to be two extra joints between the elbow and shoulder where the humerus bone would usually be. We don't see them bend much, but assuming they have a similar range of motion as an elbow, they could theoretically let the wing turn upside down.

Something that occurred to me in regard to the lights. We see similar lights on Uzi's tail, and at least some of those appear to be eyes. So could they also be eyes on the wings? I feel like they aren't since we also see accent lights on CYN's claw and camera limbs, but it would add just a little extra creepiness to them if one wishes to accept that head canon.

Thinking of expanding this to include the disassembly drone wings and Uzi's tail after I finish up some other drawings

how would you go about having a humanoid character not originally built to have wings, grow wings? like, they were originally just a regular human, but through magic stuff they grow functioning wings?

there are two main ways to do this. Limb alteration (arms into wings) or limb addition (adding wings on the back)

regardless of which transformation happens, I think it doesn't need to be as "perfect/balanced" as the anatomy of a humanoid species that evolved to have wings. magic transformations can be a little wonky, a little uncanny. especially if you're adding wings instead of turning arms into wings, and this all goes even more for feathery wings on a humanoid as opposed to bat wings.

Personally I enjoy magical transformation that gets a little gruesome. I never owned the Animorphs series as a kid, read only a part of the series quite out of order depending on what was available in the school library, but I think reading those full body transformation sequences kinda stuck with me lol. It's fine to have magical transformations that just kinda make the wings show up no problem, but if the genre/plot/setting allows it, I think the weirdness and body horror can really enhance the transformation! flesh being reshaped, musculature and bone being added or moved around. etc.

and then of course, I think the person who just gained wings needs to struggle with them for a while, you know? I wanna see the difficulty of learning how to fly and figuring out how exhausting it can be.

as for the actual anatomy, I don't care as much about it being "good" because it's a weird transformation putting wings where they should not be! which is a perfectly reasonable explanation for any unusual placement or lack of body feathers or a tail, etc. I mean I still have my personal limits and pet peeves, but there's more flexibility here than for naturally developed wings.

i'm not exactly fluent in bone anatomy but here is the currently official concept for psyrap cranium. i referenced mostly spotted hyena and juvenile tyrannosaur.

A few sketches showing volarean wrist motion. They can’t pronate or supinate as far around as average base human wrists (supination is especially limited), but can adduct way further (to the point of nearly resting against the arm, though the full range isn’t shown here).

I didn’t draw the bones, but they have a third row of carpals between the regular two, and this middle row is very elongated. Volareans are weird because their anatomy is kind of a combination of every flying creature ever (pterosaur-like wings and tail, some bird + bat-like anatomical adaptations, insect-like wing colouration), while also having marked differences from any of them (the extra carpals, the wing membranes attaching directly to the tail instead of the legs).

My own vore fic that I almost never update has induced brain rot. So I’ve decided to ramble at length about the little details of Mers/sirens/sea monsters

I wanted to talk about clothing, but to do that, we have to talk about anatomy first.

Both sirens and Mers have the upper body anatomy of a human. The human lungs function above water, but below water remain mostly unused. The heart and stomach act as usual. They also have a full heart, lungs, and digestive system in their tails. The circulatory system in the tail is directly tied to a pair of gills, usually located around the hip region.

The human part cuts off around the waist, so reproductive organs are only found in the tail. All reproductive anatomy is internal, and all Mers/sirens have both male and female organs, making them all intersex. Most choose their pronouns based purely on vibes, usually in their early teens, though some mer societies try to impose stricter gender binaries based on human civilizations. (This includes Irridesse and Lacey’s town)

They have a fully functioning brain in their skull, as well as a bundle of fused ganglia in their pelvic region. The human pelvis is warped to act as a thin cranium for this ganglia. This bundle of nerves acts a second, much more basic brain, to work on instinct and evade danger if something is interfering with the main brain. This is a big reason why instinct issues are so prevalent in the dangerous waters world, because has literal fish brains trying to keep them alive all the time, and often conflicting with their more rational human minds.

Additionally, and rather uselessly, the tail can stay alive for a while without the upper body. If the upper body is destroyed, the lower body can flail around for a few days before dying of either starvation or exhaustion.

Breasts are a vestigial organ, with no actual milk ducts, and most are covered in patches of scales anyway. Although larger breasts are generally perceived as more feminine in mer culture, they’re seen as an all around nuisance by sirens, as having a larger chest creates more drag in the water. For Sea Monsters, it’s basically inconsequential.

¹DRCCU stands for Dreamer City Canon Universe, as this whole thing started to get fleshed out in a roleplay server set in Dreamer City, one of the locations on the main planet.

²Each "Series" refers to a series of roleplay servers where events took place. Some events have been changed or retconned as to not use characters belonging to other people. Series Two was the longest and has multiple 'chapters.'

³Series 2.5 is called such because it is not canon to the DRCCU, however some events in it foreshadow events in Series Three and reveal new sides to characters that may change your perception of them.
