Why would you—That's not—I just wanted to ask for help, why did you have to go and make it awkward???

#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#xue yang#Its such a relief to not have to draw so many characters once again.#Redrawing the specific font from the English translated mdzs books was surprisingly fun!#Maybe I'm alone in this...but I think characters switching to a different font of speech for *emphasis* is peak comedy#you can't communicate voice changes of sound very well in non audio forms so this is the best I can do.#Anyways...rip Xue Yang. so im not sure if anyones interested, but, i went through quite a bunch of totk critiques by people who were also very disappointed with it and thought id share my favorite videos i found (granted, i only really wachted those that youtube recommened and its mostly .. white men... things like the orientalism problem are not mentioned at all for example, maybe ill update this post if i find any more diverse voices)
i dont agree with every single point and also dont know most of the channels (aside from the big zelda theory guys) so i judged solely by what they mentioned in those videos and the quality of it (like the audio .. bc i cant listen to bad audio)
in no particular order, also they talk about or use footage of the literal ending stuff so if you arent done with the game yet, better leave these for now
youtube
youtube
youtube
youtube
(the following one is a podcast thing by multiple zelda theory guys, there some stuff you can skip at the start thats just kidna random things, but the video is marked with chapters)
youtube
(theres some mention of some things not making sense, like the sonau only being two, and ithink thats kinda bc the english translation was weirdly vague about that, in the german version its much more directly said that they all died out and only rauru and mineru were left of them;
also mentions of how unfitting it is to call the enigma stones "secret"stones in english might come from a similar thing; in german they where called "Mysterienstein" which would be translated as mystic/mysterious/enigma- stone
just wanted to mention that since the vast majority are gonna play it in english only and the stuff online is also dominated by english)
#ganondoodles talks#zelda#totk#ganondoodles rants#not really#but it kinda fits in the theme#some things are a lil too complainy for complainings sake#but overall those are the ones i felt spoke about alot of the broader problems#Youtube#also i dont ... like the english translations of these games#and im not a fan of the english voice acting either tbh#idk whats with zelda in particular#and i dont want to shit on translators#but man#some weird translation choices have done active damage in the whoe lore department#plus its jsut kinda .. weird and unecessary at times#why call it gloom?? miasma sound way more connected to malice and actually menacing#secret stones??? why?? mystic or engima is right there plus its confusing bc they .. are not secret at all??#makes stuff complicated too bc im using the words i know but in english almost every name is totally different#why not ... keep the names of the og japanese??#i know german is guilty of changing stuff too#but my point stands

Hey, sorry, I have a question about mononoke, and, well. You seem to know a lot about it so perhaps you could find the time to answer?
I was wondering, is there any more media connected to the medicine sellers beside the bakeneko arc in Ayakashi, the Mononoke series from 2007 and the recent movie?
Because I saw people talking about another three movies too, and I was already quite confused by the two series and the movie and the internet wasn't really helpful ^^'
I have so far only watched Ayakashi and the series, but the new movie is next (and I am excited)! I really enjoy the memes and interpretations and other stuff on your blog, it's really funny, although I can't read some of it yet due to spoilers.
I hope you have a wonderful day!
Happy to help!
At the moment, there's no animated media for Mononoke other than the Ayakashi "Bakeneko" arc, the series, and the movie Karakasa (Chinese Umbrella), which has the alternate title Phantom in the Rain. However, there are two movies planned as sequels to Karakasa. Those three movies will be a trilogy, and that's probably what you've seen people talking about.
We don't yet know the name of the third movie. The second one will be called Hinezumi (Fire Rat), and has also been given the alternate title Ashes of Rage.
As for non-animated media, there are...
Manga adaptations for every arc of the series. I think all have been translated into English. I haven't tried to hunt them down, but I'm guessing they wouldn't be too difficult to find.
Two manga adaptations of Ayakashi "Bakeneko." They're both by the artist who also adapted the other arcs, but one version is more recent. At least one has been translated—I think both—but I haven't looked for them either.
A manga adaptation of Karakasa, created by the movie's character designer. As far as I know, only the first six chapters are available, and they've been translated into English by @naonoholics [1-2] [3-4] [5-6]
A light novel adaptation of Karakasa. I don't know if it's available in English anywhere.
Stage plays of Ayakashi "Bakeneko" and "Zashiki Warashi." I think the "Zashiki Warashi" play is or was available on DVD/Bluray, but only from Japan and in Japanese. I'm not sure if there's a recording of "Bakeneko," or if any other stories were adapted this way.
Spinoff light novels called Mononoke Shu and Mononoke Oni. @the-mononoke-facade has translated all of the stories from Shu and the first story from Oni.
I think that's it for official media. Pretty much everything is an adaptation of one kind or another, except for the spinoff novels.
There is a bunch of backstory connected to the Medicine Sellers, which isn't discussed in the media at all except for a brief mention in Karakasa. The creator flung it at us quite unceremoniously this past summer. If you're not familiar with it, the posts linked here cover most of what we know.
I'm glad you enjoy this blog, and I hope this was helpful! It's probably a ton more info than you were looking for, but you now know everything I know about the available Mononoke media. 😛
#mononoke#karakasa#yes as if having mononoke broken up into ayakashi and the series and three movies weren't confusing enough#they've also given each movie two titles—three if you count the english translations of the original ones#it's not the ghibli mononoke#it's the 2006 ayakashi samurai horror tales anthology but just the last three episodes...#... 2007 five-arc miniseries...#... 2024-202? movies karakasa/chinese umbrella/phantom in the rain...#...hinezumi/fire rat/ashes of rage...#...whatever the three titles of the third movie will be mononoke!#and the creator dropped all the world lore in random special youtube segments that had to be translated by fans#not confusing at all really

Bless Mokumokuren for outright stating that the genre tags for Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu have never changed, i.e. the official site never dropped the "BL" tag from the series as it got more popular to reach a wider audience. It's been a persistent rumor in the fandom, and one I'm afraid will start circulating again once the anime starts airing.
If you mainly follow English language sources, please remember that whatever tags different anime and manga sites, databases, aggregators etc., either add or leave out don't always reflect the author's intent and the official sources, and should NOT be used to argue for what genre or demographic a certain work belongs to. It can just be random people claiming whatever they want based on their own interpretations and I've seen plenty of errors and real time changes to them based on new chapter developments, that might help catch the attention of some people, but don't suddenly change the genre of the work itself.
Not having BL as a genre tag also doesn't mean that a work can't include any boys loving. The queer themes have always been present in HGSN, and if you're up to date with the manga, they've been outright stated. Having queer characters or a queer story line doesn't automatically mean that a work is BL or yuri, and not including those tags doesn't mean that it's just "baiting". This gets brought up so much I think Mokumokuren's gotten tired of it, because the other day they clearly spelled it out for everyone, assuring that the story is queer, although it's not tagged as BL or focused on romance.
Here's what they shared on their Bluesky account:
The genre tag and advertising direction on the official website have never changed since the beginning of serialization. From the beginning, it has been consistently promoted as a "coming-of-age horror" within the official reach. (It's also true that the official reach is very limited…) Whatever the genre tag is, and even if this story isn't a romance, as the author, I guarantee that it is a queer story. There seems to be a persistent false rumor going around that "the author suddenly removed the BL tag from the official website by the 3rd volume," but the truth is that there was never an official BL tag from the beginning. (This is not to deny any queerness.)
And further back:
My opinion that the genre of The Summer Hikaru Died is something that the readers are free to think about on their own remains unchanged, but I view it as a story that sympathizes with those who have been left out of stories about love and sex, so I describe it as "coming-of-age horror." I think the key is the fear of not being “normal” and not having a place to belong, which is common for all kinds of people regardless of their attributes. I think it's fine for queer stories that aren't romances to exist. That's why I've been careful not to position it as a love story from the start.
Let's stop obsessing over tags and allow queer stories to exist and thrive, even when they lack a clear romantic plot or subplot and are more subdued.
#my nonsense#hikaru ga shinda natsu#the summer hikaru died#i've been following mokumokuren for years and they've been getting more and more direct about this#i have to imagine they've gotten tired of international fans pestering them about this to really spell it out#usually using some english too#they also pointed out how genre definitions can differ in different countries so expectations differ too#it must be so frustrating to be writing a queer story about not fitting in and constantly have ppl saying you're not doing it right ;____;#also i don't know how much of a problem this is anymore (apparently still to some degree?) or how necessary this post is anymore#but i want it to exist for new fans esp those who find it thought the anime since i know the baiting discourse will start up again#and old ones who lack media literacy or maybe don't follow and translate mokumokuren's tweets and bluesky stuff#speaking of should i get a bluesky account???#(also the translations are janky bc i used translators and can't spend any extra energy on them pls forgive me)

Jayvik childhood friends AU because I love them, also to spread the agenda that baby Jayce was one of those kids who'd collect rocks, I would know. I was one of them.
Full drawing under the cut! And also the link to the fic that inspired me to make this piece

if the link doesn't work then the fic is It's nice to have a friend by ttrblmkr
#I don't really wanna make an habit of making a bigger piece and cutting it but this time It felt better to put the closeup first idk#Like. There isn't really anything going on here besides the boys talking about rocks and wizards so#But yea. Somehow I hadn't really thought about Jayvik as childhood friends until I read that fic#and that's what gave me idea to make this#On another note I'm not sure if I used the right word in the alt to describe those big big rocks around since#I don't know what they are and I don't know the word in English for what I assume they are#I tried translating peñasco and got crag as a result. I hope that's how you use that word. idk guys I don't speak english#Anyways I've been having way more fun with my rendering since I started just doing whatever with the colors and strokes so that's nice#i drew something#jayce talis#viktor arcane#It's funny to put Viktor arcane bc since he has no last name it reminds me of when ppl say sans undertale as if undertale is his last name#viktor fanart#jayce arcane#viktor tendercrisp#Where did the tendercrisp come from? pronouncing the necron 'sz': personal rating list*
broke: /s/ only ('seras')
woke: /z/ only ('zeras')
provoke: /s/ and /z/ pronounced separately ('s-ze-ras')
bespoke: /ʂ/ or /ʃ/ ('scheras')
invoke: tensed fricative /s͈/ ('sseras')

#warhammer 40k#wh40k#necrons#illuminor szeras#necron#shitpost#german speakers i am so sorry you had to read that with your eyes 😂 i also speak german i do know eszetts can't start words#originally this was just for fun but it seems there are quite a lot of ways wh40k fans pronounce this#native english speaking fans usually seem to stick to 's'#whereas in languages that actually use this digraph it would be s/ʂ/ʃ#but in korean translations 'sz' defaults to 'z' so it's definitely 'zeras (제라스)' and 'zarekh (자렉)'#and sometimes the 's' and 'z' are both present and pronounced like in japanese ('s-za-rekh';スザーレク)#(i personally use ʃ because it seems the logical compromise)#in lore terms i think all or most of those pronunciations were used among the necrontyr and there is not one 'canon' version#variety is the spice of life it's fine they're all good. well maybe not the last one but still 😂#according to TDK the necrontyr didn't have a united language until szarekh came along so they must've had different dialects#i reckon that's why the silent king made his universal language. so people could pronounce his name how HE specifically wanted it#it's all becoming so clear now!!!! 😬

I’ve been translating the Sherlock and co scripts to Spanish and right now I have only almost finished episode 1.
It has taken me around 3 weeks?
Hopefully I get faster at doing this.
If not I’ll never finish this haha
Maaan why didn’t I start sooner.
Hopefully I can set up a kind of schedule? Idk maybe force myself to translate 5 pages per day?
That way I could translate one episode per week probably.
I could try and find one more person to help?
I wouldn’t try to organize a whole group. I don’t have the time for that. Just one or two people to assign episodes and then review together. Idk something like that I guess.
I’m really just making this because I really love the podcast and want more people to be able to experience the show. My friends irl don’t speak English and I would love to share the show with them.
Also I want to expand the fandom! It would be cool wouldn’t it? It’s already big but it can be even bigger!!!
The translated scripts could work like subtitles or as a companion to the transcripts.
I’ve listened to many Japanese audio dramas that way.
#sherlock holmes#sherlock and co#sooo yeah if any native Spanish speakers who are fluent in English want to help with this please comment#or send me a message#I would try to find someone irl but my classmates don’t really care about English????#and im in the bilingual class!!!#but they seem to only use English for school#and I don’t think there’s any other Sherlock Holmes fans in my class :(#I don’t really talk much to others because I’m surprised by the amount of cheaters that my class has#many many chat gpt users#like seriously????#I have rambled enough#sorry#fan translation#translation

I love singNsong again reminding people in Side Story that Dokja wanted other people to read TWSA (he wrote reviews and comments! It was his first wish), and he only stopped bothering because people harassed him for it. He didn't gate-keep the story. When he's avoiding talking to Sangah about it at the beginning of ORV, it's because he knows what happens when he tells people about the story, not because he's gate-keeping it from her. He notes he's not proud of his hobby (likely because he's been bullied all through his life, including for reading the thing he loves): he finds it embarrassing to talk about, and better respects her studying Spanish in her free time (learning another language is a generally accepted thing in society). He assumes she won't care or will look at him funny (or worse) for when she learns about the novel he's into.
Basically anyone writing "let's gatekeep ORV" posts because of the anime announcement or because they dislike the manhwa or some other weirdness, y'all are the villains in the scenario.
The literal climax of the story is about sharing ORV with as many people as possible. What story were y'all reading?
#orv#really tired of the stupid gate-keepy bs in some parts of this fandom#omniscient reader's viewpoint#kim dokja#side story spoilers#it's been quite fascinating seeing novel fanatics come out of the woodwork against potential anime fans#while showing how much they hate the manhwa and manhwa fans too#the only actual official English translation we have is the manhwa#acting like we're all in this together like no#I adore the novel and the manhwa#and folks who started with the manhwa or just happen to also like the manhwa but also like the novel see you for what you are#avoiding talking about something is not gatekeeping#it's often recognizing various social cues#like oh this person probably isn't familiar and I don't care to explain#or I'm worried they'll treat me badly if they know#when you're trying to connect with someone you tend to look for things you share not stuff you don't#if Dokja heard about people trying to gatekeep orv he would be disgusted#also NOT gatekeeping orv is literally the climax of the story I am so deeply confused by people encouraging gatekeeping of it#you're making han suyeong mad#she didn't nearly kill herself writing orv in order to share it to everyone they could find so people could gatekeep it#that is literally the opposite of the goal#it's not bad to ask if folks have read the novel because for a variety of reasons folks may not have#but it is bad to act like reading the novel is a fandom requirement especially given all we have is a fantranslation using MTL#or you must love the novel above others or the novel only#I want singnsong to get fucking rich from this story they shared and which I and many adore#gatekeeping does not make that happen#also good luck getting people to buy the Yen Press novel translation when it comes out when you act like this#the manhwa is available in at least seven languages officially fuck off with this gatekeeping crap#don't get me started how a lot of y'all don't even know what twatf is and a good chunk of y'all who won't even touch it when you do know#and that doesn't exactly bother me but it does bug me when book purists get all high and mighty

Since I could not find anything useful when I tried searching the lyrics for Farde Mal Diavolo (+ So We Sing), I have since taken it upon myself to figure it out.
Disclaimer: I am by no means a professional translator or a localizer. Therefore there is a margin for error. Somethings might not actually be quite right, something might be switched simply because how sentences work in each language, while others were certainly tried at making it sound smoother for English. If anything these are just dolled up personal notes of mine if only to have some semblance of sense to what is being sung.
For reference, these lyrics are being translated from Japanese and not the language it is sung in because quite frankly, I don't know what it is. There are lyrics—and in consideration with the release of Metaphor Re:Fantazio—that I thought might have been an auxiliary language (or another language I am just really not familiar with), but I don't know enough about that to really say for sure or make headway. So, this fan translation is from what I do have some knowledge of (and what I imagine to be corresponding Japanese lyrics).
—
Farde Mal Diavolo -Destroy Evil, then Come-
Cease a season of endless darkness
For a new era to be ushered in
Prepare for battle, don armor and
Spur the heart, raise morale
Prepare for battle, don armor and
Spur the heart, now, go
Take back what was lost
Cultivate the earth, and live together with the wind
It can’t be forgotten. The people’s tears, a mother’s tears
Oh, why is that? Be more afraid of doing nothing
Than losing one’s life
A wise man of old once said
A divine calling is imprinted on the soul
If that’s so then, this aching
This pain in the chest, march on forward alone
Prepare for battle, don armor and
Spur the heart, raise morale
Prepare for battle, don armor and
Spur the heart, now, go
Wager one’s life
Every bit of the body too
It’s been sharpened, it sends the senses circling
Go on assuredly because
It can’t be stopped
In a place like this
It’s borne onto this flesh, with the masses
That hope gives strength.
Wager one’s life, for victory to be seized
Pour all of the heart into that blade
That moment of slight carelessness
when the eyes close, it can’t be forgiven either
To long for dependable days
To just change the current era
Oh, never cut and burn the thread of life
For it to not be done back in kind
Prepare for battle, don armor and
Spur the heart, raise morale
—
For reference purposes, this is what I was using as available in the official soundtrack. If you might happen to know what language the left is in, I would love to know/hear your thoughts!
Additional translator's note for Farde Mal Diavolo having seen how the English and Japanese are translated for So We Sing: the spots with the extra spaces are still grouped in one line of lyric. It's just that the following is capitalized like a new sentence without other punctuation. For here I didn't do that and instead put a comma for separation and no capitalization.
Eventually, I also plan on getting to So We Sing at the very least because it has referential lyrics like this, but that will be done at a later time.
#Unicorn Overlord#Farde Mal Diavolo#fan translation#So We Sing will hopefully go smoother#because some of those lyrics are just straight up sung in English#I know Fighting Off the Powerful also has lyrics#but those are not given in the booklet#so they might just be reused lyrics#but I'd have to listen really really really well to figure that out
