Connor’s heard you say so a hundred times before: Friday nights are not your favourite. He’s beginning to understand why.

Even on a usual day, the crowds that gather are rowdy and demanding, full of entitled nine-to-fivers who just want their first two fingers of relief. Tonight it’s worse: people swamp the place, all on their way to or from some big event in the city. They’re pushing and clamouring for attention so much that even your co-workers’ usual cheer has lost its sheen.

It doesn’t help that half the DPD are sitting in the back—in their corner of the bar—either. In any normal circumstances, a substantial police presence would be a deterrent against poor behaviour but it’s so busy that no-one notices them at all.

There are plenty of people to watch, and Connor does. His eyes follow the young couple at the end of the bar, arguing in flirtatious whispers and brushing shoulders suggestively; the group of office workers venting over their drinks, gesturing for emphasis and sending vibrations across their table; the steady stream of people wandering through the door, shedding coats in the newfound warmth, cheering and greeting their waiting friends.

Hank would laugh if he called it a hobby, so perhaps it’s best to call it a study: with deviance comes emotion, but emotions mean nothing without literacy and context. Connor watches the ebb and swell of the crowd, searching for the telltale clues of emotion in faces and posture, mapping every twitch of brows, every smile, every dart of the eyes. It’s arduous and frustrating, but he’s building a map of feeling: reading the expressions of others and trailing red thread to where he discovers the same spark in himself.

Yeah I know lots of us get canon and fanon confused and some never watched Danny Phantom which is why I’m going to *friendly remind everyone* that if you don’t want to use the Ghost King Danny thing, it’s—it’s fanon. Like. You do not need to go out of your way to make it Not A Thing, if you find it’s hindering your plot line or whatever. You don’t have to write around it. At this point, you might need to clarify it’s not something you’re doing, since it’s so common, but like—if I have to read one more plot where they’re twisted up in knots to avoid it, like. Pls. You can do what you want and that includes this, we already disregard canon all the time, you can buck common fanon as well I’m—

That’s not to say I’m against Ghost King Danny, but I’m starting to think it’s one of those things people are afraid to stray from because they think it’s it’s one of the more… pillar parts? Of Danny’s character and canon? When it���s, like, not. If you want to write in reasons why he’s not king and etc etc you CAN, it’s your story and maybe it even serves your plot or tone or you just want to, but you can also just not even have it be a consideration. You’re free to just not do it.

Clip for reference, this is the third episode in the series and one I personally liked alot because of multiple reasons:

It just expands a bit more on the boys earlier life and shows them being children and enjoying alchemy. It's a big contrast to how things are later, it's a needed contrast to show how messed up it is for Ed and Al to be involved with the military, to have gone through such a horrible accident with something that they used to do for fun things like making a doll for their best friend.

Winry also shows how some people outside of alchemists view alchemy. This is so necessary because fma especially fma 03 tries to ground itself to reality, exploring how real people think and feel, and despite alchemy in their world being said to be scientific, in our perspective it's not, and through winry we the audience have that link, that even to people in the anime, alchemy is still kinda Incomprehensible, scary and basically magic.

Brotherhood and the Manga doesn't mention Ishval until a bit later and I think that kinda sucks, because showing winry mourning the loss of her parents in the third episode , tells us early on that something bad happened and that the characters are aware, but at the same time don't know the exact details. I like that 03 shows the war through so many different perspectives and not just the perspective of the guilty war criminals were meant to sympathize with like in the Manga... Because honestly scar killing those state alchemists shouldn't have been a big deal because if justice existed, those alchemists would've been killed or put on trial for their crimes anyway, they just had an extended death penalty and scar just finished the deed.

And just... Showing mostly the soldiers perspective sorta demonizes scar and makes his trauma seem less significant which pissed me off, because It makes you have more sympathy for the people who are feeling guilty after committing the inhumane crime instead of the people actually hurt by the crime.

The Ishvalans have suffered greatly and are still suffering because no way is Amestris fixing its racism in just one day because a new Führer said so. They've gone through shit for years.

I just think showing us the war through the ishvalans perspective would make us care more about the ishvalans.

(one that's not just scar and that old lady but have us actually follow a character for a flashback seeing how much their life got torn to pieces!!)

additionally show us how much the actions of the military character's suck and that while they have their good moments they still suck.

(side tangent: I just find it gross how they keep on saying they want to be Führer.. Ya know still keeping the military dictatorship instead of saying stuff like, "oh I want to weaken how much control the military has on major political decisions in the country so that shit like Ishval can't happen just because some loser dictator said so." Saying Mustang becoming Führer will fix the country is so shit because it ignores the actual issue. You're just essentially saying that the dictatorship is suddenly fine now just because a "nice guy" is now in charge.)

You know, it's been years now, and I still follow a few blogs that post for thr fandom... I need the last few remaining fans to know: anyone that popularized the last name "McClain" for Lance, I need you to jump into a boiling pool and you can never get out.

Maybe look up Cuban last names??? And don't use any of the first 10 results??? Do your fucking research??? Look up how Cuban last names work, maybe??? Don't just settle for the whitest last name to fucking exist, and call it a day????

It works similarly in mexico, First name, maybe middle name, sometimes third name if your parents are feeling a bit quirky, then Paternal lastname Maternal lastname. Maybe! Maybe he's mixed! A mexican parent and a Cuban parent! A Brazilian parent and a Cuban parent! Maybe!!! He's even part native! But I don't trust white fans with native characters. Learn to behave and maybe we'll trust you with native characters.
