My Raven Queen Redesign! Part 2 of my EAH Redesign series!

I’m not gonna lie, this was hard, and I’m still not 100% happy with the result, but after… eleven hours…. I ended up with something I like! I even ended up overhauling her design three full times…

I’m not sure what this style is called, but I’ve been mentally referring to it as ‘fantasy detective’ since my references were all men in formal wear with long coats like Sherlock. I kept her headband (and reduced it to three spikes to more resemble a tiara), and added some spike bracelets to her wrists and ankles to match it. I wasn’t able to draw much from her story, since, unsurprisingly, ‘Snow White’ is about Snow White and not the evil queen. But I think that fits, since she’s not that interested in fulfilling her story anyways 🙃.

In her left hand is a wand! In Thronecoming, the gift the Evil Queen left that’s swapped with a coin is a magic wand, which we never see or hear about again (I’m pretty sure). So, she gets that back!

Her skirt has two layers. I wanted to incorporate her original skirt ruffles, so I placed it on the outside and singed the edges to make it look burnt, since Raven isn’t the best with her powers yet.

There isn’t too much more to say, I just went with my gut and drew up a cute outfit for her. No new poll, since I’ll be doing Apple next because the last one was so close. I also did not expect that last post to blow up like it did, thank you so much to everyone who reblogged and left such nice words!! :D I’ll leave you with some Cerise and Raven chibi doodles. One thing that’s interesting about Ever After High is, when you look at how long some fairy tales have been around in real life, is how much longer some generations of a story are compared to others

The Adventures of Pinocchio was first serialised in 1881-1882 and then published in 1883, and since the story doesn’t say or imply it may have taken place any time before that era, let’s assume that in the EAH universe, the first Pinocchio happened in the early 1880s. Since the average generation time is 20-30 years and assuming that EAH is meant to take place in the 2010s since that’s the era it was released in, that makes Cedar the 5th-7th person meant to enact the Pinocchio story.

Then there’s Beauty and The Beast, where the first version was published in 1740. Using the same method as before, that would make Rosabella the 10th-14th person meant to enact the BATB story, basically double the length of Cedar’s generational line.

THEN there’s Little Red Riding Hood, where the first written version is from 1697, which would make Cerise around the 17th or less expected Red Riding Hood, EXCEPT that we know Little Red Riding Hood was being told orally pre-17th century, and that the story was told by French peasants in the 10th century and that the earliest known precursor of the Red Riding Hood story was recorded by Egbert of Liège in around 1023, which could make Cerise, at the most, the 55th Red Riding Hood

And that’s NOT EVEN getting into Cinderella, where the earliest considered known variant is the story of Rhodopis which was recounted sometime between 7 BC and AD 23.

Dealing with Dragons: Cimorene sketch ^_^

Been re-listening to Dealing with Dragons recently (anyone who knows me knows I will not shut up about how formative this series was for me re: many things but mostly dragons) and so I got the urge to draw Cimorene again (I sketched her like a year or so ago, but can't find it, so I thought a redesign with my new style was perfect!)

For context I’ve been running a folk/gothic horror D&D campaign based on fairy tales, and the party will have to break into a toy store in the next village they come to as part of a quest from a hag.

The toy shop will be guarded by a one-legged sentient animated armor named Standfast, and when the party first meets them, they will be distracted and looking up at a window of a dressmaker’s shop, where a tailor will be working with a sewing mannequin.

And I can’t decide if I want to do something sweet and romantic or something silly and goofy, so I’m just going to put it to a vote:

SHE IS HERE! Part three of my EAH redesigns, Apple White!

I had a few ideas going into this that I tossed around in sketches, but ultimately felt the urge to lean into her apple-ness. I originally had a bustier made of gold that covered her lungs and liver (since the queen requested her lungs and liver as proof of her death, and later used a bustier to try and kill her), but felt it was too ‘heavy’ for apple’s vibe.

What did stick, though, is the headband she’s wearing that looks suspiciously like a comb stuck in her hair (also a crown!) that the queen used in another attempt to kill her. Apple is Raven’s foil, so naturally she’d have no problem with any of the scary things that happen to her in her story, since they all end in her ‘happily ever after’. I mean, her name is Apple, for Pete’s sake.

You don’t see it very well, but these are what her shoes and gloves look like (+a beta of her comb) taken from a sketch-page I did.

I wanted to give her a really comfy aesthetic, so she’s got a fluffy sweater, a top with a Peter Pan collar (the buttons are apple seeds) and a two layered dress with apple blossoms on it. She’s also got those big blue eyes that stare directly into your soul, and a cute loose braid going around the back.

Apple is such a cutie, and she’s actually the only EAH I still have from my childhood. I’m probably happiest with her color scheme, though I’d change the sweater to maybe a cardigan in future drawings of her… who knows!
