The Eclipse — A Reunion

In honor of today's eclipse, I finished this WIP. Those are my OCs, Nyx and Hemera, divinities of the Moon and the Sun, the beetle siblings!

I was so excited to see this little guy (he's so cool!) that I actually jumped right to make an OC out of him!

They don't have a name or a full design yet but as you can see they're very punk. And they've sewn the fluff and the (false) little mushrooms in their jacket themselves. Might use they/she. That's all I have for now. Please look at her.

for angel : there’s something about MUSE L that reminds THE SHADOW of what she once believed in—hope, light, and redemption. this angelic muse isn’t naïve, but they see through her hollow exterior to the person she used to be, and there’s a deep, aching attraction between them. they make her feel something close to human again, even though aro knows the light could burn her.

after her deal with the riverman, aro became less talkative, often responding to questions with gestures or cryptic phrases. she believes that speaking too much may reveal more of her soul than she has left.

aro avoids mirrors as much as possible. she’s convinced that something is always wrong with her reflection—a lingering, hollow version of herself that doesn’t quite belong to this world.

despite being emotionally detached from people, aro still feels a deep connection to animals, especially horses. they seem to instinctively trust her, and she often uses this bond as a way to escape her inner turmoil.

rarely sleeps soundly. her body feels tired, but her mind never truly rests. sometimes, she dreams of the riverman and the deal they made, and she wakes up feeling like pieces of herself are slowly fading away.

her deal has stripped away much of aro’s emotional depth. while she remembers what it feels like to love or grieve, she can no longer access those feelings fully, leaving her in a constant state of detachment.

has an eerie ability to sense when someone is close to death. she claims that a peculiar smell, almost like decayed roses, fills the air around those whose time is nearing its end.

despite feeling disconnected from her family emotionally, aro still harbours an intense, almost desperate need to protect them, even though she knows her soul is already gone. she believes that if she suffers in their place, they will remain safe.

even after selling her soul, aro clings to old family superstitions and rituals, like leaving salt by the windows and keeping protective symbols on her person at all times. deep down, she hopes they might offer some solace or protection from the riverman.

has a strange affinity for storms. when the weather turns turbulent, she often feels more alive, as if the chaos in the sky reflects her internal struggle. she loves the sound of thunder, and it seems to ground her in moments of emptiness.

sometimes, aro will laugh at inappropriate moments—not out of joy, but as a reflex. it’s hollow and unsettling, and often catches others off-guard, adding to her aura of eerie unpredictability.

is convinced that the horses at the ranch gossip about the humans. she’ll occasionally talk to them like they’re her closest friends, asking them for the latest "news."

despite her stoic, gothic exterior, Aro has a weakness for energy drinks. the more absurdly named, the better—her favourite is one called "riverman’s revenge" because of the irony.

for all her courage and dark experiences, aro has an irrational fear of butterflies. she thinks they’re too unpredictable and suspects they might be omens in disguise.

aro is terrible in the kitchen. despite being able to predict the outcome of most things, she somehow never manages to avoid burning food—especially toast. she blames it on her "curse."

loves collecting random, useless facts (like how octopuses have three hearts). she’ll often drop these facts in the middle of serious conversations just to see people’s confused reactions.

aro's psychometry is both a gift and a curse. while she can glean insights from touching objects, the ability is unpredictable now that she’s an empty. sometimes, she touches something and only feels a cold void, which terrifies her.

aro’s precognition is incomplete, giving her only fragments of future events. these fragmented visions are filled with shadows and distortion, often leading her to misunderstand the outcomes, which frustrates her endlessly.

when aro attempts astral projection now, she feels like she’s on the edge of something dark. in the astral plane, she often catches glimpses of the riverman watching her from a distance, making it a dangerous practice she avoids unless absolutely necessary.

since becoming an empty, aro can no longer read auras as clearly as before. instead, she sees them as warped, faded colours, which reflect the soul’s vulnerability. this distortion is particularly strong in those who have made deals similar to her own.

aro no longer has full control over her psychometry, and sometimes, when she accidentally touches an object without gloves, she’s flooded with overwhelming sensations and fragmented memories of the object's history. it often leaves her disoriented and emotionally drained.

he hated changes to his routine.

so he was fully prepared to strap on his ODM gear early and fling himself out the window straight into a titan's mouth when he opened the sugar pot to find it empty. it had been half full the morning before.

"who," he said furiously, though he was only speaking to himself. "used up all the fucking sugar?"

"ah, sorry, levi, that would be me."

levi dropped the pot, letting the white ceramic shatter against the wooden floorboards of the survey corps' wall rose base's kitchen. he turned around quickly, finding himself to be faced with ...

"y/n," he sighed, her name almost always paired with such intonation on his tongue. "why."

not even a question, and she noticed, wincing as she came further into the kitchen, grabbing a broom on her way to tidy up his mess. "sorry, levi, i am. i just wanted t-"

abruptly, her mouth snapped shut, her cheeks tinting pink. he gave her a glare with sleep-hooded eyes, the kind that could make anyone start talking.

after another moment of holding onto his gaze, she sighed, heaving herself up to sit on the kitchen counter so she was at least taller than him. it was difficult for levi to stare down on people, but he managed with y/n.

"it's your birthday tomorrow, right?" she rushed out. "i wanted to make you simple sugar cookies because hange said they're your favourite, but the recipe called for more sugar than i had anticipated and ... uh ..."

she gestured vaguely at the shattered pot, which had not, in fact, spilled any sugar on the floor when it smashed, because it was ... empty.

levi hadn't anticipated that response, and he found a blush crawling up his cheeks. he and y/n had both joined the survey corps around the same time and had been reasonably close, but she'd never inspired these kinds of feelings in him before.

he covered his mouth to try and hide the redness as he turned away from her smile, that made butterflies flutter in his stomach. she ... oh.
