Ukrainian painter, professor, public figure Oleksandr Murashko (1875 - 1919) with his wife Marguerite Murashko, nee Kruger:
Tumblr media
Oleksandr was a student of another prominent Ukrainian painter - Illia Repin.
Murashko has been called "the most important Ukrainian artist of the turn of the century". His painting "Carousel" won the gold medal at the Munich Exposition in 1909, and he exhibited in Venice, Rome, Amsterdam, Berlin, Cologne, and Düsseldorf.
From 1909 to 1912, Murashko taught at the Kyiv Art School. In 1913, he opened his own studio in the Ginsburg skyscraper, where many young Jewish artists were trained, including Mark Epstein. He had a great influence on Kazimir Malevich.
He founded the Association of Kyiv Artists in 1916 and the following year co-founded the Ukrainian State Academy of Arts.
Oleksandr Murashko was murdered by the agents of the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission secret police, more commonly known as Cheka (ЧК), in 1919, when he was taking a stroll with his wife.
Not long before his death, his hands full with organising the socially important activities, with teaching and working at the Art Rada, Murashko wrote:
"I haven't really been making any new artwork for the last two years. All of me is immersed in organizing the artistic life of Ukraine. This issue is posed so acutely and is so complicated that I cannot possibly, in any good conscience, avoid it. But I have firm hope that, having given my all to my people, I will be able to return to quiet work..."

yes, we shouldn't ignore the terrible events going on right now (Palestine, Sudan, etc), but I think we need some reminders because some of the posts i've been reading have been giving off *extremely* guilt-trippy vibes: Not posting about current events or bad things =/= not caring. Not reblogging =/= not caring. Adding "don't scroll past this" or "reblog this or block me" to posts is guilt-trippy as hell. And lastly, online activism is not the only form of activism.

i admit that i find it a little bit frustrating how Wildly Astonished other antizionist jews act when i tell them my israeli jewish family have lived in the region since [some unknown length of time before 1800 when there start being records about it]
#and then they're like ''ohhh they're mizrahi!'' [connotation nonwhite‚ virtuously indigenous]#and i have to be like. no. it's just that‚ as palestine was in fact ottoman-administered greater syria for most of the last 600 years‚#you could get there from other parts of the ottoman empire. such as the part of now-ukraine your ashkenazi family is also from.#it wasn't actually a hermetically sealed arab-only ethnostate that evaporated immigrants on sight. it was a pretty decent place to live as#a jew by at least some accounts. or better than the front of the hapsburg-ottoman war anyway which is where they were coming from.#i'm not sure who you think it's serving exactly to believe that there were literally no ashkenazim in the middle east before the 1st aliyah#however there were some. and this information does not actually threaten a modern anti-state of israel position like at all.#but since apparently you've constructed your new Diaspora-Centric Identity around the idea that 'palestine' and 'diaspora'#are the two mutually exclusive nonoverlapping regions and the former is ontologically a no-european-jews-allowed zone#i guess i can give you a minute to try to figure it out.#ugh sorry this is nothing it isn't anything. for one thing it's fantastically unimportant#and for another thing i don't know how to like talk about it in a way that doesn't make me sound at least kind of like im trying to justify#myself as being somehow less complicit or something. i mean i think my complicity as an american dwarfs the rest of it honestly but.#i just feel really insanely alienated where the rhetoric of my theoretically most closely politically aligned group is not really built to#like. accommodate the facts of my family history.#sorry. i have honestly no idea why im so obsessed with articulating this concept ive just been chewing on it pointlessly for days#box opener

I don't think that human brain is capable of processing the amount of loss and grief war brings. I often think about our dead defenders, people who died in missile strikes, people killed on occupied territories. And every time I catch myself thinking "They're not coming back" like it's my first time comprehending the concept of death. Because my mind simply can't grasp the fact that so many people are gone forever. There's gotta be a way out of this, this is a trick, at the end every lost life will be back, they'll come home. But they won't. But I just can't believe that. That's too cruel and unfair to be real.

too many people are out here making sweeping statements and generalizations. i realize sometimes those kind of things are necessary to have an efficient discussion, but when you start getting pissy about the picture of reality you've painted with said statements and generalizations? that's where you lose me. u can't get pissy about something being universal when it's NOT universal, when in fact the problem is that you're living in a little bubble where lots of people think the same, and you never step the six inches to the left it would take for you to meet people for whom your statements and generalizations are not fucking true.

I’ve seen a really concerning trend in how some well-meaning people online are talking about Israel and Gaza, where they’re outright saying that any and all mainstream media coverage of the assault is propaganda. I saw a post saying word for word that the only reliable source is social media posts from Gazans.
So I think it’s a good time to remind y’all that “every government and mainstream media source is lying to/manipulating you, and unverified social media posts are the only place you can get uncorrupted information” is word-for-word conspiracy theory. This is not a way of thinking that you should cheer for just because it’s coming out of the mouths of people you agree with.
Yes, every sort of media has bias, especially around a topic this politically fraught. Yes, you should absolutely question the narratives and facts you’re being presented with. Yes, you should read coverage from multiple publications, in multiple countries, by multiple authors. And yes, you should even supplement that coverage with the type of up-to-the-minute first-hand accounts that social media is fantastic at providing. But having bias is not the same thing as lying. There is no global conspiracy where every world leader and media outlet on the planet has met behind closed doors and agreed to Do What Must Be Done to make Israel look good. And there are many, many journalists from around the world risking their lives on the ground in Gaza right now so they can report the facts as quickly and accurately as possible.
An updated version of this graph is appended to every article the CBC has posted about Palestine in the last few weeks:

If every Western media outlet is bending over backwards to make Israel look good, they’re doing a pretty shit job of it.

Apparently there was a second attempt on Trump's life and yet again its another former/current trump supporter. The theory about the first one being fake is getting a little stronger lol it barely got press coverage cause literally no one cared and now they are going for round 2 even though its doing less numbers than the first cause it wss on his fuckin golf course, he didn't even get hit and no one outside of his little fuckin cult gives a literal shit about him. He's not gonna win and if these are genuine, how did BOTH OF YOU MISS?!! THIRD TIMES A CHARM!!! Once more from the back! Line up your shot better this time please! Double check to make extra sure!
Sure it'll just be another head off the republican christiofachist nazi KKK Hydra, project 2025 dosent cease existing just cause Trump's not there to head it but it'll be the funniest shit if the head wanna be dictator gets fuckin offed by his own, not antifa, before he even has a chance to lose another election. Better yet, probable next shooter, please wait till just after he loses. Let him live just long enough to watch his ass lose again and then off him cause lets be real, this decrepit mother fucker is going to be in his fucking mid 80s by the time the next election rolls around and he will kesp trying until he fuckin dies.
Idk who it will be and I really don't care but this wanna be Hitler deserves every threat he receives.

Honestly a lot of the time, it's not even about people having to agree with me, it's about needing to know that they actually heard and listened to what I had to say even if it didn't persuade them
Just... some basic indication that there's enough respect to give a shit about what I said, and also to make sure that they disagree because they actually disagree and not cause they just didn't bother listening
It's all I really ask
#I forgot what this was about part way through writing about it; but then I remembered it's about Ukraine#like I just need to know that you actually understand what's happening there and what people are going through#you want me to care about your thing? show me you have any any any grasp of what's going on in Ukraine#it's uh... it's too many friends where if I'm just honest... this is about them#people I adore but people where... I don't know if they ever even once listen to what I have to say#...though maybe it's better this way... at least if they just ignore me I can say they just don't understand what's going on#that they're just being fed lines by other people or don't care#...if... they... knew the shit Ukrainians go through and still didn't care... would be a lot harder to respect them#would take a certain level of callous to do that and... these are people I care about very much so#...but I don't know; eats at me... you know#...and even on less serious topics... boy I wish you'd ever listen to me#if it weren't for the fact you say you like me... I'd be pretty damn sure you can't fucking stand me and I do nothing but annoy you#...I don't know if you've... ever... listened to anything I've said on any subject#when you do; you usually correct me... even though; brilliant as you are... you're erm... not always right#I don't get it... I don't get you... every word I say seems to be wrong... I'm so stupid and you're so smart#and yet you get real upset when I want to die... so you must actually like me and our communication styles don't match up#thank god you never seem to read my tags... or... much of anything else I say#truthfully I'd follow you anywhere; and you can treat me any way you want#but man I don't think my thoughts or opinions matter to you even a little... I think I just exist to be your rubber duck#...that's how it feels anyway#but all that aside... just wish you'd listen to me on Ukraine cause it actually matters#this post started out about some other people too... and sure... I like them well enough; and they're maddeningly wrong#like sputnik levels or wrong#drives me nuts; like you're not stupid and you're not cruel so why do you act so stupid and cruel?... turn you brain on#but uh... I actually just don't care about them that much#where as you... I could put it into words... but I won't#it's just a shame... like forget any of the stuff about me; it's just you're so kind... wish you'd care about what's going on in Ukraine#...I gotta stop or I'll go on all night; and I'm already too tired#mm tag so i can find things later

Israel would let you die. More than that, Israel would probably be the one to kill you. I want you to understand that when you are defending them. It doesn't matter if you think you are Israel's specialest little bean defender, Israel's only intent right now is to kill as many people as they can in Gaza, hostage or not. Starvation or bombs whatever it takes.
