More Orochimaru and kabuto headcanons these are completely subject to my whim and interest. Not orokabu specific, it's just general hcs.

■ Orochimaru isn't purposely cruel. He also truly does not like to lie, and at most, he would omission the truth.

When he offered to ressurect Tsunade's lover and her kid brother (Orochimaru's student) he was being genuine. There was no ill intent, and he thought meeting them would bring Tsunade closure.

Orochimaru believes death is never permanent.

From Kabuto's perspective, as a medic, he believes there's values in the living, and he preserves them. (Although in this case, it's mostly keeping human experiments alive as long as possible)

He would thrive in seeing other fight for their life.

Because once a person flatline, they're considered dead to Kabuto. Edo tensei doesn't equal to the living. He respects the process of grief and accepting a loved one passing and moving on. But Kabuto has always considered death a permanent state.

So the though of Orochimaru offering to bring back loved ones for Tsunade makes him feel sicken.

(Ironically, when Kabuto created army of edo tensei for the 4th war, he was under the assumption of tormenting the living but it did bring many people closures to their loved one, like how Orochimaru had intented for Tsunade)

■ Both Orochimaru and Kabuto are perfectionists, but their core values are entirely different. Orochimaru focused on the end result, and Kabuto prioritized procedures.

When Orochimaru works, the steps toward the end result are rough and constantly require refining. It's essential to him that it worked before anything else. He is (literally) on a tight schedule before his body passed his expiration date.

Kabuto takes longer time to process his work (compared to Orochimaru), but he never makes mistakes. Once he completed something, he rarely needed to return to it.

They both think the other one is difficult to work with, but they complement each other and cover each other flaws.

■ Kabuto learned basic healing techniques from Nonou and has learned to kill during his ROOT years. But it was Orochimaru who taught him how to dissect people, and he didn't get to further his medical experience until he worked for Orochimaru.

■ Kabuto doesn't share the same obsession with collecting Jutsus like Orochimaru and has little to no interest in learning them. With the exception of summons and fūinjutsu.

■ Orochimaru likes to act 'twisted' to get a rise out of people because if he doesn't, they tend to mock him. He is generally a reserved and poise person.

■ Kabuto faux polite is a fare, but a startled number of people accepted it at face value, even those who know he's faking it. He is still a pleasant person to be around (compared to Orochimaru).

My silly little OCs that I’ve had for the past two to three-ish years.

They’re a part of Hatake Kakashi’s generation and graduated from the Academy at the same time as Uchiha Obito and Nohara Rin. They were placed on a team together under Uchiha Mikoto and slated for intelligence type work.

Hayaki works primarily as an infiltration specialist but takes commissions for fūinjutsu work.

Mihana combines her clan techniques with the genjutsu she learned from Mikoto as an interrogator at T&I.

Shintarō works in ANBU and as a spymaster for Konoha, using his kikaichū and summoning contract with bugs as spies.

(I’m working on a story focused primarily around Hayaki, though Mihana and Shintarō will feature in it eventually, on ao3.)

civilians of the narutoverse do not idolize their military services members like we so often do. instead they find them, their petty interpersonal disputes and their climate restructuring ways of setting them, a bit of a pain in the ass. ninja and civillians live side by side in hidden villages but they participate in two seperate culture. with technological advancements in the civilian world the gaps between these cultures are just getting wider. here are some ninja headcanons loosely related to that idea.

there's a law or something prohibiting ninja from using certain civilian technology such as headphones and smartphones because of the way headphones damage the hearing and because of the way smart phones can be addictive and damage the attention span. [i think this makes the conflict in boruto regarding technological advancements more compelling because ninja have a preexisting stigma surrounding technology.]

in the days before the ear piece ninja would communicate over long distances using scrolls and fūinjutsu (sealing techniques fyi, that one doesn't come up all that often).

each squad member would be assigned a scroll. each scroll was marked with a bloody thumbprint connecting all of the scrolls together (like summoning scrolls).

when a squad members had the opportunity to communicate they would use a shorthand or morsecode type of writing and seal the message in the scroll.

once the message is received the seal on the exterior of the scroll begins to glow.

upon opening the scroll the message sealed by a squadmate will appear on the parchment. then squadmates can jot down responses and seal them in the same manner.

it was not the most reliable system for communication at all. ninja didn't always have the time to write and seal their messages let alone read any previous messages to track the movements of their squad.

one pro to this system was that squad leaders did not have to write up entire mission reports. they could simply submint a copy of a communication scroll.

perhaps the worst part of this whole scroll business is the protocol for if a a mission is compromised. when a shinobi mission fails or is compromised ninja were expected to swallow their communication scrolls whole to prevent any confidential information from falling into the wrong hands. so that scroll swallowing thing orochimaru does is not just him being a creepy old man but a hold over from when scroll communication was common practice in ninjustu.

uchiha clan used a unique type of shorthand to encode their messages further. Its vocabulary and sentences structure was based of Uchiha spiritual beliefs, folktales, and saying. so you had to be well versed in the clan culture to decipher a message. It was made further esoteric as it was written in a way only able to be deciphered by the sharingan. yeah those people like to keep to themselves. or maybe they just didn't like swallowing scrolls idk

for clandestine close range communication ninja used and to this day use a type of tactical sign language.

the signs differ from hidden village to hidden village but not dramatically.

ninja are really good at signing fast and deaf ninja often get complaints from their civilian friends that their signing is illegible because they are moving to quickly.

in the modern era, ninja ear pieces are permitted but the volume is of course notoriously low. ninja love to throw civilians dirty looks for the sound leak from their earbuds.

in general, ninjas find civilian to be obnoxious, helpless, and lacking discipline. the feeling is mutual, civilians are generally more impressed by samurai and think ninja are contradictorily uncouth and uptight. its generally frowned upon for ninja to marry or date outside of their profession by all parties. on the other hand if a civilian pulls a samurai their social status gets bumped up a few notches. i mean samurai do tend to be a LOT richer than ninja so fair i guess. ninja do not share the civilian sentiment about samurai. they think samurai are prissy weaklings with pitiful chakra reserves who rely too much on basic taijutsu, kenjutsu, and worse, civilian technology. samurai think ninja are mostly just jealous that they're not the ones who get the big daimyo bodyguard bucks, and maybe if they stoped fighting over who has cooler eyes and start organizing their forces more effectively they'd get more than just mercenary gigs too. they also think ninjas are showoffs which is fair.

there is an unfounded belife amongst civilians that if you concive and raise a child in a hidden village they are likely to have a higher chakra reserve

civillian parents despite their preconceived opinions of ninja practice this superstition as a form of social climbing

if you have a kid with higher chakra reserves they are eligible to become a samurai or at least work their way up through the ninja ranks and tranfer into samurai work

this is probably what sakuras parents were trying to do with her

Favorite ninja weapon

It depends on the situation, really.

Different weapons work best in different circumstances, so I like to be well versed in the use of most of them, since you never know when you might need to pick up a certain weapon or skill as a shinobi.

A bow and arrows : It's quiet and its projectiles can be used over and over again - if you're not against plucking it out of your dead target and cleaning it up a bit. It's also good for catching a meal when you're out on a long term mission and your rations are starting to dwindle.

Kusarigama : There are three types of this weapon and all of them can be used to entangle an opponent's spear, sword, or other weapon. It can also be used to immobilize arms or legs. Having an opponent immobilized makes it easier to cast a close range Ninjutsu like Chidori or to strike the opponent down with the sickle end of the weapon. Also it looks cool.

Ninja Wire / Chains : Probably some of the most versatile items on the list. Wire string is light, lengthy and durable, with a variety of useful functions. It can be applied to traps, used to bind an opponent or to restrict their movements. It can cut through flesh and bone when tightened. And like chains you can use it to manipulate weapons and channel chakra; not to mention rappelling. Did I mention makeshift laundry line! Since you can use it to hang your flackjacket on to dry after an unexpected downpour.

Tantō : A short sword used for piercing and stabbing. Easy to carry and conceal. The Hatake clan tantō could also absord, channel and release chakra with a practices swipe.

Ninjatō : Sword shorter than a katana, but used in the same way. The shorter lenght allows for fast draw techniques centered around drawing the sword and cutting at the same time to create a simultaneous defensive, parying and attacking action. Used by many Anbu agents.

Shiruken : Long ranged weapon, mainly used to mislead or distract your opponent from your actual attack. This is one of the first, fundamental lessons taught at the academy.

Kunai : The most basic shinobi weapon, but also one of the most useful (and very likely the favourite). Can be used as a foothold or hold in rock / wall climbing. Can be used in hand-to-hand combat to block and deflect attacks and also to stab and slice through enemies, their attacks, or any barriers. It can serve as a projectile and is sturdy enough to be used in conjunction with other tools and shinobi arts, like Fūinjutsu, to expand on its function. A prime example being an explosive tag, which is just a kunai with an explosive seal tagged at its hilt.

Scrolls : Not typically something you would add to a list of weapons, but can be weaponized easily through sealing techniques and a little bit of chakra infused ink or blood.

The concept of space-time ninjutsu is crazy.

"By manipulating a specific point of space, the user can warp anything targeted into a dimensional void and teleport it to another location instantaneously."

Examples of this are the Hirashin created initially by Senju Tobirama and then perfected by Namikaze Minato, and Uchiha Obito's Kamui. Additionally all summoning based techniques are space time related as well.

So my question is, how do you even begin to create something like the Hirashin? Is it simply an extremely efficient summoning jutsu attached to a Kunai? But specifically only summons the user? How do they use it long range? Is it somehow connected to his Chakra? Or maybe he's also integrated Fūinjutsu into it as well, by connecting the seals on the handle and ones on himself to help teleport back and forth?

But that would mean the summons needed to have some sort of seals on their bodies as well. However it's evident the signed contract between them and the user specifically relies on the user's Chakra. So maybe Hirashin IS the same concept just specific to one person. Though we can see a group use it at one point.

So many thoughts about the Naruto world. I'm going to be delving into this with my fanfic.
