Concept: Kakashi is the one to give Kabuto a second chance after the war. He spent a long time thinking about what he would have done if Obito survived. It was just a hypothetical, of course, but Kakashi thinks about how he would have wanted to give Obito a second chance, a way to make things right and make an actual life for himself. Obito didn't make it... but Kabuto did. And the more Kakashi looks into it, the more Kabuto's story sounds familiar to him. And at the end, Kabuto did save Sasuke, and he seems willing to change, to try to make amends. So Kakashi does what he couldn't do for Obito, and gives Kabuto that chance.

Orochimaru and Kabuto basically share the same role in shippuden. People say that orochimaru forgot that he was the main villian, but it feels like what really happened was that orochimaru died, and kabuto inherited his slot as a villian in the story. And kabuto, continuing to fill this same slot, almost as an extention of the same character, aligns himself with obito, thus bringing together the akatsuki and the sound village plotlines. Then, after kabuto gets defeated and has a redemption arc set up (thanks to itachi's genjutsu, which the ENTIRE POINT OF is to give people a change of heart), orochimaru comes back to life and takes this slot BACK from kabuto. But he doesn't get back the VILLIAN slot, because kabuto's plotline had been leading to kabuto having a change of heart. So instead, orochimaru takes this spot as a REFORMED VILLAIN, despite he himself having no character reason to do so. But he and kabuto are treated in this moment by the overarching plot as interchangeable, because they both were used to fill the same role in the plot.
#this is actually so fucking funny#kishimoto pulled these moves on his token androgynous ocs is very kishimoto of him#oro#kabuto

There is a goddamn Naruto coat in the window of the charity shop across the road from my flat and the employees have dressed it up in a womens belt and necklace not realising that it isn’t a casual womans garment.

Okay I think everykabuto said it already but how the fuck would fourth shinobi war kabuto remind Itachi of himself? Itachi was never attached emotionally to his superiors, he was never left unsupervised to let his intrusive thoughts win or whatever, he always knew where he was going at least surface level. Sure, maybe Itachi got an identity crisis at some point but he still stayed on his path of fulfilling konoha's orders. His and kabuto's childhoods are very similar and I disagree with the notion that his advice to kabuto was meaningless and he "didn't understand him". Sure Itachi was never really confused about his role in society but he did see right through kabuto's unhealthy obsession with orochimaru disguised as his own identity and he was right about that. Itachi might have been a tool in the hands of the government but he always knew what he wanted to do, where he came from and what his views were. Kabuto was betrayed and discarded several times and when the only person who saw his true potential actually gave him an illusion of chance to have any sort of autonomy he got obsessed with him no matter how nonchalant he tried to make it look. Yes he was likely disappointed when he was used to fulfill someone else's plans again but he never got to make big decisions before so even the promise of not getting killed because he's "too important" was enough to be genuinely loyal to orochimaru to him. Joining him was one of the only decisions he seemingly made out of his own volition and he shaped his personality as an adult around him
#itachi#kabuto#the part that remind itachi of himself was the “thinking hes the only one who could do anything”#kabuto betrayed obito at that point while itachi doesnt really care#itachi saw himself where he had massacre the uchiha instead of speaking to sasuke then manipulated sasuke to do as he told#kabuto at that point in the cave also see himself as the only person on earth who he could trust with his own ultimate plan#he had hinted he has something in mind after 4th war if he won#silly lizard :']
