An interesting thing I noticed at Geek Girl Con is the sheer difference in the number of people who recognized 98 Vash as compared to Sakura Con.
My working theory is that the demographic for GGC trends quite a bit older than for SC, and so I happened across a lot more people who were in the first wave of Trigun fandom decades ago.
This is honestly one of my favorite parts of this fandom -- just that it's Been Around, technically for longer than I've been alive. I see trimax art from 2013 reblogged and it just gives me warm fuzzies. This community survives. I'm so happy to be a part of it.

YouTube randomly recommended this to me a couple months back, and I was recently reminded of it. If you've been in the Trigun fandom for a while or went to cons at a certain period of time, this probably will strike a cord with you...

Tokimeki Poster Collection was an A1 poster-dispensing prize machine, shown at AOU Expo in '98. As a joint venture between Konami and Banpresto, it would make use of the licenses in the "Banpresto Character Poster" line, including Tokimeki Memorial. It was never widely released.

why don't you (x-phile edition)
inspired by the late, great diana vreeland, but zhuzhed up with a certain paranormal bouquet:
why don't you....
re-watch grotesque and join mulder on a terrifying descent into full-fledged profiler mode?
write a fic with that unpopular pairing you can't get out of your mind (mulder/melissa? scully/skinner?) and get surprised by how many others were thinking the same thing?
take a master class in the art of the perfect, hypnotic sentence and read (or re-read) Black Hole Season by Penumbra/ @mashnotesofthemythopoeic ?
sprinkle a few of your favorite lines into everyday conversation in a way that no one else would notice but that delights you? [can you get away with saying "lots and lots of files" at work?]
leave a comment on that comfort fic you've read and re-read dozens of times but haven't let the author know yet? (if you don't have one, may I suggest A Boy and His Fox by @sixhours?)
go to your local thrift store and see if you can find a former phile's discarded VHS tapes or X-Files '98 expo t-shirt?
start a podcast devoted to re-watching the series through a super-specific lens (scully's hairstyles, mulder's ties, decoding the decor of the basement office)? [i will listen.]
go for a walk around your neighborhood with Walking After You on repeat in your headphones?
re-watch i want to believe and not just the scratchy beard scene? [jk, no one should have to do that]
add your own ideas to the tags?

🫣 Want the honest truth?
… I’m not much of an aquarium (or frankly, even a zoo) person. 🤷♀️
It’s not that they’re not interesting — it’s that I’d rather be IN the natural environment, diving or snorkeling or roaming amidst the wildlife; experiencing the wonders of our world in that immersive way. 🌍
For that reason, I can honestly say that the @oceanariodelisboa blew my mind. One of Europe’s largest aquariums, this world-class attraction centers around a massive central tank that’s designed to represent the global ocean. 🦑 Visitors can make a circuit around the multi-story tank—and its adjacent open-air habitats—observing 400+ species from various ecosystems that range from the Antarctic to the tropical Pacific.
🚡 From there, visitors can explore the surrounding Parque das Nações, a modern waterfront neighborhood that was transformed from an old industrial area into a modern complex for the Expo 98 World Fair. Visitors may stroll along the Tagus River, rent a kayak from the marina, or take to the sky for a cable car ride with panoramic views. 😎
All in all, this is one aquarium that’s VERY well worth the visit! 🙌
Are you an aquarium fan? 🤔

Erró‘s giant mural ftrc.blog/parque-das-nacoes/ Lisbon's eastern edge was once a landscape of factories and industry. But that all changed when the vibrant Parque das Nações burst onto the scene! This formerly industrial area was completely transformed for the 1998 World Fair – also known as Expo '98, and some locals still call it by that name. Today, it's a spectacular district of elegant, stylish architecture – a nod to the past with nods to the future. I was there for a few days in May 2022 for a design conference and decided to use my free time to explore everything Parque das Nações offers. Here, I will share some tips so you can enjoy this part of Lisbon as much as I did. by ftrc

Okay we don't really have mascots and such like you guys do, but we have this little guy. Meet Gil 🩵
He's a water drop 🥹💧
(Was the mascot for our internal expo in '98 - ocean themed - and up until somewhat recently, the mascot for our oceanarium. He's been replaced for a real-boy mascot character thingy, but his big-ass statues are still spread on this park. I used to say hi to him every morning while taking my driver's license 🥹💧)
I would fuckin die for Gil
HES JUST A LIL WATER DROP. A WET LIL GUY (we really are not beating the sad wet cat man lover allegations)
Thank you thank you thank you thank you for introducing us, I’m going to cry over his lil wave hair flip

Heyyyyy Slasher Nation! 🖤 First of all - HOLY CRAP THANK YOU!! Even though the Kickstarter didn't hit the goal, the fact that 98 of y'all (!!) got us a SIGNIFICANT part of the way there (almost $3,000!!) is MINDBLOWING!! <3333 I can't thank you enough 😭
So What Now / Wait you had a Plan B the whole time?!
Yeah, man, you thought I was just gonna leave you guys hanging? ;) We're gonna try this again with a WAY smaller goal on Crowdfundr! (I'll talk more about this below!) Short pitch is: $1,125 goal (which we nailed in 48 hours here), keeps SU running, launches September 7th, Crowfundr is being hella cool and sponsoring it for SPX Spotlight, follow along HERE! [https://crowdfundr.com/slasheruact2]
But ALSO, holy crap, you guys are AMAZING:
I can hardly call this thing a wash, though, because the amount of love, attention, and SOLD COPIES OF SLASHER U: ACT 1 have been ABSOLUTELY FUCKING WILD. I just wanted to shout out to:
More than 600 new Slasher U: Act 1 players downloaded the game since the Kickstarter launched
Slasher U: Act 1: Alpha Edition maintains a whopping 4.9 out of 5 Stars average rating on itch (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I sold enough copies of Slasher U: Act 1 to cover MORE THAN HALF MY RENT THIS MONTH!! If this Kickstarter stopped right here, you guys would've been able to cover 4 MORE months of rent & production time! Which is HOG WILD.
We got shoutouts from:
Beautiful Glitch, the team behind Monster Prom, Monster Camp, & Monster Roadtrip!! Beautiful Glitch are one of my most inspirational/aspirational heroes of game dev, and the Monster franchise was a HUGE inspiration for SU, so I can't BELIEVE this happened!!!! Thank you guys SO MUCH!!! <333
WWAC (Women Write About Comics), where journalist Alenka Figa wrote SO MUCH NICE STUFF about my storytelling I'm gonna fuckin cry!!
Corinne Halbert of ACID NUN - she and I are actually gonna do an Acid Nun x Slasher U collab where you'll be able to unlock an Acid Nun player skin!! Shhhh!!
The crew at Lewdgamer who wrote an awesome writeup of the KS campaign!
Indiepocalypse - we made it into Issue #42 and Alex had us on his podcast, which was SO MUCH FUN!! According to Alex, Slasher U had one of the highest audience participation/engagements he's seen on Indiepocalypse Radio, and it was MEGA FUN watching him parse some of your saucy Sawyer questions, LMFAO.
And here's some Slasher U & SUKS stats for you:
More than 2/3rds of you ended up dating either Sawyer or Tate. >:)
In total, 94 of you backed the game here on KS!!! YOU ALL KICK SERIOUS ASS
Almost 1,000 new copies of Slasher U: Act 1 (both Regular and Premium) were downloaded during the campaign!
During the campaign, at least 3 people personally thanked me for Slasher U completely changing their life by discovering something about themselves or making them feel seen and heard, which is going to make me FUCKING CRY and is the ENTIRE REASON WHY I MAKE THIS GAME IN THE FIRST PLACE. I love you all so, so so sosososoososososos much, Student Disembody. :'))))))
So this "Plan B", eh?
Some of you know I'm a cartoonist by trade (I drew for the official FNAF franchise and more!). This year, I ended up talking to some sponsors for this upcoming SPX (Small Press Expo), which is like SDCC for indie comics, including Crowdfundr - one thing led to another, and now I'm partnering up with Crowdfundr and SPX to bring you a WAY SMALLER but also WAY MORE PERSONAL campaign to keep the lights on here at SU, as part of Crowfundr's SPX Spotlight event! For the non-comics folks here, Crowdfundr is basically the indie comics Kickstarter - I've been buddies with this crowd (pun vageuly intended) for a while and I'm psyched to be doing this with people I've been meaning to collab with!!
The new goal will cover the absolute bare minimum of making SU - $1,125, which includes font licenses, the Mac port, and taxes. Then, any EXTRA will go to more production time on Slasher U! Basically, I'm swinging the campaign around so the minimum amount is the goal, and the goal-goal's the reach goal. The GOOD NEWS is we apparently smashed this $1k goal within 48 hours of THIS Kickstarter, so I'm VERY OPTIMISTIC ABOUT ROUND 2 OVER HERE.
(You'll ALSO still be able to snag one of those custom player skins I'm drawing - there's gonna be only 5 slots this time!) Aaaaand you can click to follow when the Crowdfundr launches in a month, here:
P.S: estimating the first Early Access build with *just* Laila's Act 2 content, plus some core extras, in the next month or month and a half >:)))
xoxoxooxoxoxoxo, love you guys SO FUCKIN MUCH, and, as we like to say on campus:
STAY HORNY!! xxoxooxox Professor Plutonium

How do you know when Asian forest scorpions are mature or not? I bought one at an expo the other day and thought it was not an adult yet, but honestly I'm not sure how to tell.
Depends on what species it is for one, 98% of all Asian Forest Scorpions in the hobby are Heterometrus silenus, though I have seen a few other types around.
These are Heterometrus silenus, the important thing to note is the matte black body, black telson (stinger), the relatively smooth claws with few bumps on the top margin, and the granulation on the cheeks.
Heterometrus silenus get smaller as adults, this is a relatively large adult male. Scorpions are measured from the mouth to the tip of the tail. Heterometrus silenus get 3-4" long as adults, and this male is about 3.5". It's unlikely he is going to grow anymore, so I would say he is adult at this size. It can get a little iffy if your scorpion is 3" long, because it could either be a small adult or a subadult that's going to get big. At younger instars, the telson can look lighter or look greyish, but in my experience it turns black fairly early.
These are all Heterometrus spinifer. Heterometrus longimanus look similar but I don't have any photos of them. Right away you can see they are a lot shinier (the green is a bit misleading he was in a strong light, in neutral light they look black), the granulation on the face is more extensive, they have red telsons, and more prominent spiny granules on the top margin of their claws. When they are immature, the telson looks white, and it will gradually change color until it turns red at subadult to adulthood.
They're much bigger than Heterometrus silenus, and get to be about 4-6" long. My male here was about 5", his size and red telson indicates he was an adult, but again if you have one on the smaller end there could be another molt coming.
So basically, first figure out which species you have, then you can make an educated guess based on size. Unfortunately there isn't a hard rule or change that happens when they mature, so usually it's just based on experience and an educated guess.
Hope this helps!

Netizen Outrage Toward BPM Entertainment Grows As VIVIZ’s SinB and Umji Cancel Hi-Touch Event Appearance Due To “Poor Condition”
“You should have canceled the schedule to begin with.”
The We Bridge Music Festival & Expo is underway in Las Vegas, Nevada. The three-day event features hi-touch events, interviews, and music from an impressive line-up of K-Pop artists, including MONSTA X, Dreamcatcher, BamBam, ENHYPEN, VIVIZ, and more.
The festival is taking place only days after ASTRO Moonbin‘s tragic passing, a loss felt throughout the industry and worldwide as his family, fellow members, friends, and fans mourn.
We Bridge Music Festival & Expo announced they would be honoring Moonbin with a special tribute on Friday, with a moment of silence and a “Light Up Tribute.”
As the festival proceeds as planned, netizens continue to voice frustrations with the festival and BPM Entertainment (also known as Big Planet Made) for VIVIZ’s participation.
The VIVIZ members are known to be close to ASTRO’s Moonbin. SinB grew up with ASTRO’s Moonbin as a childhood friend, and they’re in a tight-knit friend group with some of K-Pop’s fellow ’98-liners, including VIVIZ’s Umji.
VIVIZ was pictured en route to the festival and broke fans’ hearts as they appeared solemn, dressed in all black ahead of their flight.
Netizens voiced their concerns for the members and outrage as it was discovered the VIVIZ members would be missing Moonbin’s funeral due to their participation in the We Bridge Music Festival & Expo not being canceled.
After netizens’ initial outrage, it was announced that VIVIZ would not be participating in the planned GRAMMY Museum interview and the red carpet event due to the artists’ “current conditions.”
Learning VIVIZ was able to sit out of those events did little to satisfy netizens’ disappointment in their company and the festival and, instead, continued to garner backlash.
Hours later, it was also announced that members SinB and Umji wouldn’t participate in VIVIZ’s scheduled hi-touch event, leaving Eunha to participate in the event on her own.
Netizens continue to express their outrage at the company’s and festival’s lack of consideration for the VIVIZ members in their time of mourning.
At this time, VIVIZ is still scheduled to perform at the We Bridge Music Festival & Expo concert.

Sorte a minha…
