Before Good Omens, I thought SoHo was a clothing brand. That sold... boho chic clothes or something. Please don't tell me Boho is a place, too.

When I was a kid, I regularly lost reading privileges for "having an attitude" and "acting out".

It wasn't as simple as being told not to read during other activities- one of the first times it happened, I remember being six years old, watching my stepfather pull fistfuls of books off my bookshelf and throw them to the floor in a heaping mess while I cried and asked him to stop.

It was weird. Every other adult I knew described me as exceptionally well-behaved, but at home, it was the opposite, and it was blamed on "learning bad habits from that shit you're reading".

Because I couldn't read at home, I spent all my free time at school in the library, reading with my friends.

When I grew up and moved away, I realized that my family life was toxic and abusive, and the "attitudes" I was being punished for were standing up for myself, standing up for my younger siblings, and resisting actual, real-life psychological abuse. Because I'd learned from what I'd read that my family wasn't normal, not like my parents said it was, and in my stories, the heroes were the people who spoke out when it was hard to.

It is insane to me that there are students right now who can't access books. It is insane that books are being outlawed. It is perverse that we are stealing away an entire generation's ability to contextualize their lives, to learn about the world around them, to develop critical thinking skills and express themselves and feel connected to the world or escape from it, whatever and whenever and however they need.

That is not how you raise a compassionate, thoughtful, powerful society.

That's how you process cattle.

It's fucking disgusting.

On one hand, Transylvania apparently exists (I'm so sorry to my Romanian maggots for thinking you were a mythical and/or extinct, albeit beautiful, land. At least you were all nice about it. My knowledge of India is even worse than my global knowledge, so when I go outside here, which I rarely do, my strategy is to keep my mouth shut.)

So given that Transylvania exists, I'm inclined to say yes to everything ever. On the other hand, that name looks suspiciously innocent. Now I have geographical trust issues. Thanks, maggots.

I'm beginning to question everything. I have been reliably informed that Wakanda is not real. Mongolia is real. I'm going to assume SoHo from good omens is real. Loch Ness is apparently an actual place. Is Birmingham in London, I couldn't make out from the Staged episode. Oceania is not an underwater kingdom that Barbie: A Mermaid's Tale made up.

Life is a lie.

And to those who asked why I don't google these things: I am afraid of the bloody internet and all the political can of worms that X throws at my face whenever I google anything related remotely to politics, which countries fall under. I do not want to know about the mayor of some city's affair with the undersecretary's second-cousin and the resultant wave of transphobia. I am afraid.

Now I rely on you all and the nice and accurate education that tumblr is, hopefully, giving me.

college is supposed to be a new start for danny: one in which his “work” life and personal life stay strictly separate. but when danny moves into his new gotham university dorm for the upcoming semester, his hopes are dashed. gotham is overflowing with lost souls, and they won’t leave him alone long enough for him to finish his damn physics homework.

when mr. and mrs. wayne offer him refuge in their old study, danny thinks he’d be stupid not to take it. he wasn’t expecting their house to still be inhabited, but whatever. he can blend into the background. he’ll do anything for some peace and quiet.

now if only he can convince martha to stop trying to out him to the rest of the family.
