Our wedding was really sweet and a lot of fun :3 I was so nervous while saying our vows, I wrote a really long corny speech. Everyone seemed to love the food, even my grandfather, who hates everything I have him try. I was so surprised hearing him say over and over again how good the food was. I have to find an excuse to order more kebabs. Our song is River Song by Pigeon Pit, Chris used the Carl Sagan book as the "Bible" for the ceremony, and he did a great job. Rat Hazard.EXE and Cardboard Homestead were amazing!! All local beer at the bar. My family surprised us with a small cake to share from a great bakery back home and a cookie platter for the guest. My family was actually really pleasant, and I think they were surprised how nice the queers, the punks, and the commies were being to them. Ian from Cardboard Homestead and his girlfriend Hannah gave us such sweet wedding gifts. They also loved my grandmother which was super wholesome lol My meta's were awesome and super helpful all night! Great wedding.

Just had a great idea. When I die, I won’t distribute any of my money to my friends or family in my will. Instead, it will be buried in my casket for grave robbers to find. To prevent people from realizing my casket is loaded with money, I will have a closed-casket funeral. Nobody will question this as I will have died under mysterious circumstances anyway, so they’ll just assume I was too fucked up to be seen. Instead of money, my loved ones will instead receive one of my bones. Everyone will have their own designated bone. Then, at the end of my funeral, everyone will play bingo to see who gets my skull. This is mandatory.
As a separate idea, in my will I will say that at least one person needs to show up to my funeral in costume, but nobody is allowed to discuss or coordinate on this matter. Then we just see who shows up in costume. Or well they will. I’ll be too dead to see it. But it’ll still be funny.

revoking people’s right to talk about the tolstoy marriage until they write and turn in to me a ten page essay on complex relationships
#‘tolstoy STOLE from sophia’s diary’ almost certainly not true.#at least not in the usual vein - sophia was (and should be credited as!) at the very least his editor and collaborator#with w&p at times i want to say co author but i also dont think we should diminish the importance of editing#they worked as a team! and in the later years when thier relationship was increasingly frought they were BOTH reading each others diaries.#the problem is there is genuinely an avenue to talk about how tolstoy drew from real life in less than ethical ways#tanya bhers/natasha rostova for instance. THE KREUTZER SONATA! FOR INSTANCE!#but diminishing it down to oh he stole from her is. a disservice to both of them.#sophia confessed her love by writing a story that blatantly copied real life and lev’s personal insecurities confessed in confidence#and honestly that isnt even BAD like there is a reason they were happily married for 25 years! they’re work is similar they were a team!#we dint need to flatten it out to sophia-wife-victim lev-husband-abuser.#nor do we need to ignore the many ways sophia suffered!#it’s just theyve been reduced to a famous literary disaster marriage when they really… werent that.#gabby.txt#genuinely tanya as the inspiration for natasha is far more upsetting to me than giving his diary to sophia before the wedding.#idk. idk! its like on one hand im so fully on sophia's side and im so happy that her diaries and writing are being translated#and. not even on the other hand these ideas arent in opposition to each other. reducing her marriage to a flat picture of suffering is. bad#actually i think in many ways the problem is solved by looking at sophia as an author instead of a wife.#which like. she was very much both. but if we afford her the agency afforded to an author i think the conversation immediately gains nuance#and that also comes with the caveat of female authors being far less respected - look at nadezhda khvoshchinskaya - but still#anyway GOOOOD morning

@thundersstarfae and I's wedding is today :3 It's not going to be a traditional or legal wedding. It's a pagan wedding, and we're doing the handfasting ceremony. We're ethically non-monogamous and two of my meta will be attending. Unfortunately, due to my other partner being super long distance, it won't be there today. My Christian conservative family, on the other hand, will be there. They've insisted on coming, and it's honestly been a very shocking and confusing experience. Hopefully, it goes well. @thundersstarfae's bassist will be playing live music along with a local band fae is friends with. We're having the wedding catered by a local halal restaurant. It's an Indian Mediterranean fusion restaurant, so it's kinda perfect and very close to the venue. The venue is a non-profit socialist bar. I'm pretty sure when my family see the place, they're going to shit a brick, but they're going to have to deal with it. They don't know it, but everyone's going to kind of be trolling them a little.

The Ultimate Guide to Finding the Perfect Engagement Ring: Trends, Tips, and Timeless Choices
Tumblr media
Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most significant decisions you’ll make in your lifetime. It's not just a piece of jewelry—it's a symbol of love, commitment, and a future together. With so many options available, from classic solitaires to trendy halos, finding the perfect ring can feel overwhelming. Whether you're after something traditional or modern, this guide will help you navigate the world of engagement rings, ensuring you find a piece that perfectly reflects your love story.
"An engagement ring isn't just a piece of jewelry—it's a timeless symbol of your unique love story, reflecting both your past and your future together."
Understanding the 4 Cs: The Foundation of Your Choice
When shopping for an engagement ring, it's crucial to understand the 4 Cs: Cut, Clarity, Carat, and Color. These are the standard metrics used to determine a diamond's quality and value.
Cut: The cut of a diamond is the most important factor as it affects the stone’s brilliance. A well-cut diamond reflects light beautifully, making it sparkle even more.
Clarity: Clarity refers to the presence of internal or external flaws. While most diamonds have imperfections, many are not visible to the naked eye. Understanding clarity will help you choose a stone that looks flawless, even if it isn't technically perfect.
Carat: Carat weight measures the size of the diamond. While larger stones are often seen as more desirable, the right carat size should balance with the overall design of the ring.
Color: Diamonds come in a range of colors, from colorless to various shades of yellow. Colorless diamonds are the most highly valued, but slightly colored diamonds can also be stunning, especially in vintage or unique settings.
By mastering the 4 Cs, you’ll be well-equipped to select a diamond that not only looks incredible but also fits within your budget.
Trends in Engagement Rings: What’s Hot Right Now?
While traditional styles like the solitaire will never go out of fashion, recent years have seen the rise of some exciting new trends in engagement rings. Here’s what’s trending:
Halo Settings: A halo setting features a center stone surrounded by a circle of smaller diamonds. This design amplifies the ring's sparkle and makes the center stone appear larger.
Colored Gemstones: More couples are opting for colored gemstones like sapphires, emeralds, or even colored diamonds as the center stone. This trend allows for more personalization and a pop of color that stands out.
Vintage and Antique Styles: Vintage-inspired rings, with intricate designs and detailed settings, are gaining popularity. These rings often feature milgrain detailing, filigree, and unique shapes that evoke the romance of the past.
Minimalist Designs: For those who prefer understated elegance, minimalist rings with clean lines and simple settings are a perfect choice. These rings focus on the beauty of the stone and the craftsmanship of the setting.
Sustainable and Ethical Rings: With growing awareness of ethical concerns in the diamond industry, more couples are seeking out conflict-free diamonds and sustainable materials for their engagement rings. Lab-grown diamonds are also becoming a popular choice for their ethical and environmental benefits.
Explore these trends and more in our carefully curated collection of engagement rings here, where tradition meets innovation.
Choosing the Right Metal: Gold, Platinum, or Something Else?
The metal of your engagement ring is just as important as the stone. Here are some popular options:
Platinum: Known for its durability and natural white sheen, platinum is a popular choice for engagement rings. It's hypoallergenic and highly resistant to tarnish, making it ideal for everyday wear.
White Gold: White gold offers a similar look to platinum but at a lower price point. It's a classic choice that pairs beautifully with diamonds and colored gemstones alike.
Yellow Gold: Traditional yet timeless, yellow gold has been used in engagement rings for centuries. It offers a warm tone that complements a variety of skin tones and diamond colors.
Rose Gold: Rose gold has become increasingly popular due to its romantic, pinkish hue. It’s a great option for those looking for something a bit different yet still classic.
Mixed Metals: For a modern twist, consider a ring that combines two or more metals. Mixed-metal rings can create a unique and personalized look, allowing the wearer to combine different styles and finishes.
Choosing the right metal can significantly impact the overall look and feel of your ring, so consider your partner’s style and daily wear when making your decision.
Customization: Make It Uniquely Yours
One of the most meaningful ways to ensure your engagement ring stands out is to personalize it. Customizing your ring allows you to add elements that reflect your relationship, such as:
Engravings: Add a special date, a meaningful word, or initials inside the band for a personal touch.
Custom Settings: Work with a jeweler to create a unique setting that showcases your diamond or gemstone in the best light.
Heirloom Inspiration: Incorporate elements from family heirlooms or vintage rings into a new design, blending the old with the new in a way that honors tradition while creating something entirely your own.
Customizing your ring ensures that it’s not just another piece of jewelry, but a one-of-a-kind symbol of your love and commitment.
Budgeting: Get the Most Value for Your Money
Engagement rings can be a significant investment, but that doesn’t mean you have to overspend to get a beautiful ring. Here are some tips to maximize your budget:
Focus on Cut: Since the cut has the most impact on a diamond’s appearance, prioritize a well-cut stone even if it means compromising slightly on carat size or clarity.
Consider Alternative Gemstones: Opting for a gemstone like sapphire or moissanite can significantly reduce costs while still offering stunning beauty.
Shop Smart: Look for sales, special promotions, or even consider buying online from reputable jewelers like WJD Exclusives, where you can often find high-quality rings at a fraction of the cost.
Think Long-Term: Remember, this ring will be worn every day. It’s worth investing in a durable and timeless piece that will stand the test of time.
By considering these factors, you can find a ring that offers both beauty and value, ensuring your purchase is a wise one.
