Needlepoint embroidery (found works made from hobby kits, unpicked and reworked) by Matt Smith.
#the ethics of unpicking thrifted needlework is a rich vein.#in my previous post some folks disapproved. i don’t know where i stand.#i’m the sort of person who dislikes when women butcher an heirloom wedding dress. so i should dislike this too. but i don’t.#if he were a worse textile artist i might. & i prefer to think of smith’s work as collaborative anyway#the credit should read unknown & matt smith#needlepoint#needlework#embroidery#textile art#matt smith#matt j smith#surreal#surrealism#fave art

Thinking about Amy instead of sleeping.
#rose rambles#I've only seen through s5#But. Amy. I do love her. She's practically Made of ill advised choices.#Running away with the Doctor in the dead of night before her wedding day. For example.#Her family took her to psychiatrists and she bit them all. Evidently her family and neighbours didn't think she was sound of mind#even if they found it sort of charming. In a weird way. And that's obviously affected how she's lived her life.#Like#people don't necessarily trust her mind. What she thinks. No one ever believed her about the Doctor. And they taught her to believe that too#But they do think she's beautiful. And through that she can assert her autonomy. So she becomes a kissogram.#Which. We all saw how it was framed. They made her a family friendly sex worker.#And is it any wonder that she tries to fuck the Doctor then? He left her for all those years. And that absence changed the way her community#saw her forever.#So she assert control how she knows how.#Anyways this is to say. I love her. And I think she should make more bad decisions forever.#Curtis described her ethics as “negotiable” once and yeah sjdndj

Okay actually all previous opinions rescinded on how this show does science. the dislike I have for Whatever That Just Was is fully and entirely off the charts.
#frankenstein chronicles is a show you can watch#good writing decision: what if we had to reckon with the ethical questions of life and preserving it#and the use of the human body for science#dubious writing decision: what if we had a Potion of Plot-fixing that we extracted from babies#<- the implications of that are. Mm I really don't like those implications.#also the marlott/jemima romance plotline doesn't do it for me except for jemima's excellent wedding bonnet#I also think that marlott getting to stab someone in the face with a fork was good and cool#BUT! enough fascinating plotlines have been unearthed in the last ten minutes of episode 6 that I have regrettably been convinced on s2

doing evil behaviors (looking up different methods of engagement ring sourcing to try to identify the most ethical one)
#as far as i can tell it's 'a vintage ring' followed closely by 'a vintage ring you have melted down into a different ring'#but that means i have to find a vintage ring and vintage [anything] hunting rapidly becomes a task of fractal complexity#that exhausts me until i give up#lab gems ... seem ... fine but i'm not sure how the labor conditions are for workers in them and not making a lot of research progress#'ethically sourced' gold seems nice but is hard to verify effectively and 'ethically sourced' silver might... not exist? unclear#now of course my girlfriend is a biosafety level 3 infectious diseases researcher who handwashes and adds and removes#gloves hundreds of times a day#and so this is going to be a not-actually-very-frequently-worn item#which only makes me feel more evil about it all.#we're‚ like‚ engaged in the sense that we have agreed we want to get married and my whole family knows we're planning on it#we're not engaged in the sense that their family doesn't know we're planning on it and we're not making it public or actually#planning a wedding. so.#acquiring a ring is like the least relevant part of this whole exercise and as mentioned will almost never even be used. so im fixating

Just had a great idea. When I die, I won’t distribute any of my money to my friends or family in my will. Instead, it will be buried in my casket for grave robbers to find. To prevent people from realizing my casket is loaded with money, I will have a closed-casket funeral. Nobody will question this as I will have died under mysterious circumstances anyway, so they’ll just assume I was too fucked up to be seen. Instead of money, my loved ones will instead receive one of my bones. Everyone will have their own designated bone. Then, at the end of my funeral, everyone will play bingo to see who gets my skull. This is mandatory.
As a separate idea, in my will I will say that at least one person needs to show up to my funeral in costume, but nobody is allowed to discuss or coordinate on this matter. Then we just see who shows up in costume. Or well they will. I’ll be too dead to see it. But it’ll still be funny.
#The second idea is one I’ve had for a while#I actually originally came up with it as a scheme for my wedding if I ever get married#That one still holds some appeal because then I can actually see my scheme bear fruit in person#The first idea was brought on by a discussion about how if I could ethically#and not terribly expensively acquire a full human skeleton#I almost convinced my roommates to pitch in to buy a Dorm Skeleton#Another offshoot of the funeral bones idea was to just hide my bones hidden around my funeral for people to find over time#I’m not sure which idea I like more#I should probably go to bed

revoking people’s right to talk about the tolstoy marriage until they write and turn in to me a ten page essay on complex relationships
#‘tolstoy STOLE from sophia’s diary’ almost certainly not true.#at least not in the usual vein - sophia was (and should be credited as!) at the very least his editor and collaborator#with w&p at times i want to say co author but i also dont think we should diminish the importance of editing#they worked as a team! and in the later years when thier relationship was increasingly frought they were BOTH reading each others diaries.#the problem is there is genuinely an avenue to talk about how tolstoy drew from real life in less than ethical ways#tanya bhers/natasha rostova for instance. THE KREUTZER SONATA! FOR INSTANCE!#but diminishing it down to oh he stole from her is. a disservice to both of them.#sophia confessed her love by writing a story that blatantly copied real life and lev’s personal insecurities confessed in confidence#and honestly that isnt even BAD like there is a reason they were happily married for 25 years! they’re work is similar they were a team!#we dint need to flatten it out to sophia-wife-victim lev-husband-abuser.#nor do we need to ignore the many ways sophia suffered!#it’s just theyve been reduced to a famous literary disaster marriage when they really… werent that.#gabby.txt#genuinely tanya as the inspiration for natasha is far more upsetting to me than giving his diary to sophia before the wedding.#idk. idk! its like on one hand im so fully on sophia's side and im so happy that her diaries and writing are being translated#and. not even on the other hand these ideas arent in opposition to each other. reducing her marriage to a flat picture of suffering is. bad#actually i think in many ways the problem is solved by looking at sophia as an author instead of a wife.#which like. she was very much both. but if we afford her the agency afforded to an author i think the conversation immediately gains nuance#and that also comes with the caveat of female authors being far less respected - look at nadezhda khvoshchinskaya - but still#anyway GOOOOD morning

If you're worrying about Hazard in this whole sparkling ordeal which you weren't until I just mentioned it and made your heart drop to your knees, don't worry!
During/after the events of the Grabbening, they will be extra dissuaded from experimenting on test subjects that haven't been cleared by high command to experiment on. Because not only did they threaten the vehicons' favorite human, but also because of the unlucky vehicon escaping and Soundwave being severely not happy about Hazard nearly causing another incident with lackadaisical laboratory care and lack of scientific ethics.
So by the time the sparkling comes around Hazard's already stubbornly decided they aren't going to leave their lab and are going to sulk for a year or three. They'll be relevant to dealing with Tarn, the Fallen, and Pharma in future events, but for now Soundwave is pretty okay with said sulking because as I've mentioned Soundwave dislikes Hazard (not enough to kill them quite yet, but enough to enjoy their pissed in the punchbowl attitude)
#tfp au#transformers#oc talk#by the time they actually do see the sparkling it's gonna be quite a while in the future— actually it'll be at the surprise weddings party#though at that point they would've been through a mindnumbing amount of lessons on lab care and ethics lessons#and some level of ''oh if i do [thing] there will be consequences i can't get away with so I won't do [thing]''#yes Soundwave will end up saving Fowler from Hazard and the vehicon will escape that lab#he deserves a name beyond his association with hazard lol#silverlight#hazard

The Ultimate Guide to Finding the Perfect Engagement Ring: Trends, Tips, and Timeless Choices

The Ultimate Guide to Finding the Perfect Engagement Ring: Trends, Tips, and Timeless Choices
Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most significant decisions you’ll make in your lifetime. It's not just a piece of jewelry—it's a symbol of love, commitment, and a future together. With so many options available, from classic solitaires to trendy halos, finding the perfect ring can feel overwhelming. Whether you're after something traditional or modern, this guide will help you navigate the world of engagement rings, ensuring you find a piece that perfectly reflects your love story.
"An engagement ring isn't just a piece of jewelry—it's a timeless symbol of your unique love story, reflecting both your past and your future together."
Understanding the 4 Cs: The Foundation of Your Choice
When shopping for an engagement ring, it's crucial to understand the 4 Cs: Cut, Clarity, Carat, and Color. These are the standard metrics used to determine a diamond's quality and value.
Cut: The cut of a diamond is the most important factor as it affects the stone’s brilliance. A well-cut diamond reflects light beautifully, making it sparkle even more.
Clarity: Clarity refers to the presence of internal or external flaws. While most diamonds have imperfections, many are not visible to the naked eye. Understanding clarity will help you choose a stone that looks flawless, even if it isn't technically perfect.
Carat: Carat weight measures the size of the diamond. While larger stones are often seen as more desirable, the right carat size should balance with the overall design of the ring.
Color: Diamonds come in a range of colors, from colorless to various shades of yellow. Colorless diamonds are the most highly valued, but slightly colored diamonds can also be stunning, especially in vintage or unique settings.
By mastering the 4 Cs, you’ll be well-equipped to select a diamond that not only looks incredible but also fits within your budget.
Trends in Engagement Rings: What’s Hot Right Now?
While traditional styles like the solitaire will never go out of fashion, recent years have seen the rise of some exciting new trends in engagement rings. Here’s what’s trending:
Halo Settings: A halo setting features a center stone surrounded by a circle of smaller diamonds. This design amplifies the ring's sparkle and makes the center stone appear larger.
Colored Gemstones: More couples are opting for colored gemstones like sapphires, emeralds, or even colored diamonds as the center stone. This trend allows for more personalization and a pop of color that stands out.
Vintage and Antique Styles: Vintage-inspired rings, with intricate designs and detailed settings, are gaining popularity. These rings often feature milgrain detailing, filigree, and unique shapes that evoke the romance of the past.
Minimalist Designs: For those who prefer understated elegance, minimalist rings with clean lines and simple settings are a perfect choice. These rings focus on the beauty of the stone and the craftsmanship of the setting.
Sustainable and Ethical Rings: With growing awareness of ethical concerns in the diamond industry, more couples are seeking out conflict-free diamonds and sustainable materials for their engagement rings. Lab-grown diamonds are also becoming a popular choice for their ethical and environmental benefits.
Explore these trends and more in our carefully curated collection of engagement rings here, where tradition meets innovation.
Choosing the Right Metal: Gold, Platinum, or Something Else?
The metal of your engagement ring is just as important as the stone. Here are some popular options:
Platinum: Known for its durability and natural white sheen, platinum is a popular choice for engagement rings. It's hypoallergenic and highly resistant to tarnish, making it ideal for everyday wear.
White Gold: White gold offers a similar look to platinum but at a lower price point. It's a classic choice that pairs beautifully with diamonds and colored gemstones alike.
Yellow Gold: Traditional yet timeless, yellow gold has been used in engagement rings for centuries. It offers a warm tone that complements a variety of skin tones and diamond colors.
Rose Gold: Rose gold has become increasingly popular due to its romantic, pinkish hue. It’s a great option for those looking for something a bit different yet still classic.
Mixed Metals: For a modern twist, consider a ring that combines two or more metals. Mixed-metal rings can create a unique and personalized look, allowing the wearer to combine different styles and finishes.
Choosing the right metal can significantly impact the overall look and feel of your ring, so consider your partner’s style and daily wear when making your decision.
Customization: Make It Uniquely Yours
One of the most meaningful ways to ensure your engagement ring stands out is to personalize it. Customizing your ring allows you to add elements that reflect your relationship, such as:
Engravings: Add a special date, a meaningful word, or initials inside the band for a personal touch.
Custom Settings: Work with a jeweler to create a unique setting that showcases your diamond or gemstone in the best light.
Heirloom Inspiration: Incorporate elements from family heirlooms or vintage rings into a new design, blending the old with the new in a way that honors tradition while creating something entirely your own.
Customizing your ring ensures that it’s not just another piece of jewelry, but a one-of-a-kind symbol of your love and commitment.
Budgeting: Get the Most Value for Your Money
Engagement rings can be a significant investment, but that doesn’t mean you have to overspend to get a beautiful ring. Here are some tips to maximize your budget:
Focus on Cut: Since the cut has the most impact on a diamond’s appearance, prioritize a well-cut stone even if it means compromising slightly on carat size or clarity.
Consider Alternative Gemstones: Opting for a gemstone like sapphire or moissanite can significantly reduce costs while still offering stunning beauty.
Shop Smart: Look for sales, special promotions, or even consider buying online from reputable jewelers like WJD Exclusives, where you can often find high-quality rings at a fraction of the cost.
Think Long-Term: Remember, this ring will be worn every day. It’s worth investing in a durable and timeless piece that will stand the test of time.
By considering these factors, you can find a ring that offers both beauty and value, ensuring your purchase is a wise one.

Exploring the Ethics of Conflict-Free Diamonds: Making Informed Choices
Welcome! Today, let's delve into an important and thought-provoking topic: conflict-free diamonds. As conscientious consumers, it's essential to understand the ethical implications of our purchasing decisions, especially when it comes to something as significant as diamonds. Let's ignite a meaningful discussion with an engaging question:
How important is it to you to ensure that your diamonds are conflict-free, and what steps do you take to verify their ethical sourcing?
As we explore this question, let's consider the following points:
Understanding Conflict-Free Diamonds: What does it mean for a diamond to be conflict-free, and why is it important? How do conflict-free diamonds differ from diamonds that may have been mined in regions associated with conflict and human rights abuses?
The Impact of Ethical Sourcing: How does choosing conflict-free diamonds contribute to positive social and environmental outcomes? What role do consumers play in promoting responsible sourcing practices within the diamond industry?
Verifying Ethical Sourcing: What measures can consumers take to ensure that the diamonds they purchase are ethically sourced? Are there specific certifications or standards, such as the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, that consumers should look for when buying diamonds?
Transparency and Accountability: How transparent are diamond retailers and suppliers about the sourcing of their diamonds? What steps can be taken to improve transparency and accountability within the diamond industry and provide consumers with more information about the origin of their diamonds?
Balancing Ethics and Budget: Do you believe that ethical considerations should take precedence over other factors, such as price or quality, when purchasing diamonds? How do you balance ethical concerns with practical considerations when making purchasing decisions?
Alternative Options: Are there alternative options to traditional mined diamonds, such as lab-grown diamonds or other gemstones, that offer a more sustainable and ethical choice for consumers? What are the advantages and disadvantages of these alternatives compared to conflict-free mined diamonds?
At Beverly Diamonds, we are committed to offering a stunning collection of conflict-free diamonds sourced from reputable suppliers who adhere to strict ethical standards. Join the discussion and share your thoughts, experiences, and insights on conflict-free diamonds. Let's explore how we can make informed choices and support ethical practices within the diamond industry.
