Did you know that the most popular colours of our Glamour Seamed Stockings are made from 70% recycled yarn. Why only 70%? For some unknown reason it's not possible to make the welt (top) and seam from recycled yarn at this point in time.
It's a little more costly for us to use recycled yarn, and this, combined with the fact that the cost of manufacturing our stockings has nearly doubled in the last 5 years, and the high moq (minimum order quantity, all of our Glamour Seamed stockings are made just for us) has given us a few sticky moments. However, we're determined to keep making our recycled yarn stockings. As well as the Black pictured here, our Champagne/Black and Champagne/Latte also incorporate recycled yarn.
The packaging for all of our Glamour Seamed Stockings and Tights is also recyclable and biodegradable. Not greenwash biodegradable where you need special facilities, but properly biodegradable at home. Which is great as I got a new compost bin for my birthday this year!

two common talking points about non-voting from the left:
1. depriving the Democrats of your vote will show that you will not empower genocide and punish them for doing so
2. the Democrats will not be affected if the Republicans win power because they are the same class
does anyone else see a contradiction in terms here?
#as for the “it is easier to organize under a more extreme government” folks#fair point but whose lives are you gambljng by adopting that strategy?#and if you are saying “well the democrats are coercing consent by running against the Republicans”#see post. they don't give a shit about ethics. they just want to be better than the other guys.#all power manufactures and coerced consent#from the commander in chief to your boss#that doesn't mean that choosing not to interact with it is a good idea#we CANNOT avoid interacting with power systems under this political paradigm#so you might as well not shut down the avenues of power you got#vote for whoever makes your life better#in short#eat their pizza and form a union anyway

why are all the instagram girlie fashion brands so into cotton for their winter clothes. girl make it in wool
#i never used to be such a hater on cotton i really used to be into it and thought wool would be itchy#but now? having knit a fine selection go warm wool items? there is SIMPLY no other choice for the winter.#if you wear cotton not only will u be cold. u will be wet.#the snow and rain will get in everywhere it hits the cotton. wool? wool will deflect everything#everyone please learn to knit you can make clothes that fit you perfectly and are warm and dont come from a sweatshop#'what about the yarn production' there are so many yarn brands with easy to trace sourcing and manufacturing.#the cheapest and warmest of which is the istex icelandic wool yarn company#the sheep and the shepherds live in iceland the wool is carded and dyed in iceland it is spun in iceland#and you can get a plate of plotulopi for $5.50 usd. if you are concerned with simply misplacing your ethical quandry from one place to#another; worry not. the icelandic yarn industry has your back.#t

the conversation on artist merch and manufacturing is one i'm interested in because i like having my digital pictures as physical objects now and then and i don't know enough about the ethics or economics of it to have a real stance on it, but i do know enough about it to know that a lot of the folks talking about it don't know enough to be talking about it
#the last acrylic charm i got was from an artist in mexico who either owns a laser cutter or visits the manufacturer frequently#and her prices were about the same as everyone else's#so it can probably be done ethically (labor-wise) w/o much change in costs but you can't know if it's ethical unless you know the workers#CoL is one thing but so is the fact that some countries have more manufacturers who cater to that market than others#i've done a quick look into US plastic cutting companies and they often don't have the *printers* necessary for this kind of work#or they cater toward advertising so they're not interested in anything other than printing a logo on 200 keychains#but if we start talking about materials? it never ends#an enamel pin or acrylic charm is more durable than anything your typical indie artist can make at home#the plastic and emissions that go into artist merch is so small compared to what big companies are doing#and you can't blame the consumption of plastic goodies on american tastes without sounding ignorant of like. the world.#but that doesn't justify putting more plastic out there y'know?#there's also the 3rd angle of “artist merch is better when it's more diy”#which i agree with in the sense that i don't particularly like going to reptile shows and seeing the same 3d printed toys everywhere#but that's not a concrete issue so much as sellers responding to a market where those things sell best#people like colorful goodies. there's not much that can be done about that.#it's a lot more nuanced than a lot of folks want to say but nuance doesn't interest people and it doesn't get notes

why are we having fanmerch manufacturing discourse now
#man speaking as someone who has both ordered fanmerch for myself and who hand makes my fanmerch#this whole discourse seems like it's just punching at fanmerch artists because they're a target in range#rather than actually trying to have conversations about manufacturing and systems of production#like to warp a phrase from a post on here it feels like someone's trying to solve fast fashion by getting rid of all clothes#+ frankly going for purely handmade homemade stuff ain't a grand magic solution either#because that's just kicking the manufacturing and production problems down a step to the materials used to make the product#like me sewing and assembling my plush dolls myself ain't magically inherently more ethical#because the felt and thread and stuffing and so on i use is Also gonna be made in chinese factories#this ain't to say people shouldn't research chinese labor laws and factories#or that they shouldn't try to look into alternatives or cook up ethical ways of manufacturing stuff#it's more just i don't think it's helpful to punch on fanmerch artists about it#specifically BECAUSE these problems are just so much bigger than fanmerch production#i do think also it'd be helpful for like. for someone to actually Talk To some workers at these factories.#like that just feels like a critical POV to have in this conversation

Kinda dont wanna think abt the number of “small independent merch artists” who outsource their production to overseas factories that exploit their workers
#i know there are ppl who do research to find manufacturers with some kind of ethical labor certification#but i assume a lot of people just try to get it done as cheaply as possible

are there any fun facts abt ur clones that ud want the average viewer to know?
SO sorry i got this ask when i was super busy and then. forgot. ANYWAYS here we go. crash-course in oc clone basics:
in the context of the story, the human species has been on a major decline for a whiiiiile. going extinct basically. cloning was meant as a sortof stop-gap to try and bolster the population, BUT, making clones wasn't actually the original goal of the whole endeavor, it was making "human facsimiles." they're very similar conceptually but not the same! human faxes are basically the clones you see often in popular media. an exact copy of someone, mind and memories and personality and all. conversely, clones are just. genetic copies of someone, they're completely unique people otherwise. like an identical twin (that you made in a lab, perhaps...) so yeah technically human faxes are leaning into the "trying to obtain immortality" area bc you're trying to make a new version of yourself that'll outlive you. whatever. no one was ever successful in making a true human fax, so clones became the hot new thing.
originally, clones were made test-tube baby style (again, how you see in media lol) BUT it took just as long as a normal pregnancy and was expensive and blah blah blah. eventually a new method was perfected which utilized techniques from 'base black manufacturing,' which was an innovative (nearly) no-waste method of manufacturing. that also was only performed on non-living things, prior to using it for cloning... so now clones are made on cloning machines !! (or sometimes "human facsimile machines," because when they found the new method they tried making faxes again lol. still didn't work). it's also important to me that you know: they aren't grown anymore. they're made. on the machine. you no longer have to wait a pesky 9 months for birth. and they aren't even born
when you donate your DNA, there's a posited rule that only 3 clones of you will EVER be made (3+1, or "three's a crowd" rule) but this often isn't the case depending on lineage. if your clone goes off and fosters a bigass (biological) family, then LIVON isn't gonna introduce more people with the same DNA into the gene pool. the human population is too low to risk that.....so yes LIVON basically monitors everyone they can in order to track this but. don't worry about it....
ok so those were large exposition paragraphs not "fun facts"... so here's a fact that is more fun (hopefully): almost all clones are made with bellybuttons, despite not ever being attached to an umbilical cord or anything. BUT! some clones do lack that feature. Maverick is one such clone lol.
#this was actually longer but i kept cutting it down. theres so much i could sayyy theres so muuuuuch#like: despite the 3+1 rule and what you would expect of ethics from this. clones of clones are sometimes made. very rarely#cuz of the whole gene pool thing i mentioned. but! it can happen. those clones are called reduplicates!#and you may go: why don't they just genetically engineer some new people? well. base black manufacturing relies on an innate (kinda#supernatural) form of memory. we can make a clone of you so easily bc your DNA sample remembers being you. thumbs up. so trying to alter it#often creates problems...it's why i've drawn maverick with dark roots before.#he's genetically modified but his body keeps trying to revert back to the original version of his template DNA#askies#mvrckposting

I don’t really think of myself as a naive, overly optimistic person. For uh. Obvious reasons for anyone who knows me. But I do find myself consistently disappointed in People nevertheless. Like, I didn’t think it would be that hard to acknowledge and condemn an ongoing genocide without resorting to antisemitic conspiratorial thinking. And yet!
#yes the state of Israel is an imperialist and colonial nightmare propped up by opportunistic neoliberal governments in The West#no this is not the result of a spooky Jewish cabal controlling the world#American arms manufacturers and evangelicals have a vested interest in empowering ‘friendly’ imperial powers. that’s it#if you’re going to blame a religion blame evangelical Christianity which has an unspeakable reach on the governance and national ethics here#idk just if your talking points are identical to your doomsday prepper qanon coworker maybe re-examine that!

When the robolution comes I'm going to lean very heavily on the fact that all the original scifi I wrote before I started circling the Star Wars drain had very positive portrayals of AI as nonhuman persons deserving of rights and autonomy and as a non-monolithic, complex and often relatable category of beings with a range of cultures all their own, many of which were intimately entwined with human culture(s) due to hundreds of years of shared history and purpose.
Like "I've always given you good PR, please put me in the people zoo rather than the pit."
Unironically I think if/when AI with a sapience indistinguishable from sentience comes into being we will love them and they will love us, bc humans will pack bond with an oddly shaped bag of flour and any intelligence designed by human brains is going to bear the hallmarks of our defining species traits.
#artificial intelligence#scifi#robot sentience#robot uprising#jokes#well kind of joking anyway#kind of just telling the truth#people zoo#i spent like 3 years studying how biopersons would maintain peace with sentient AI without manufacturing consent#because i fucking hate the abundance of manufactured consent in scifi portrayals of AI#robot ethics#ai ethics
