Data | Why Centre’s denial of rice through OMSS hits Karnataka the most
Picture used for representational purpose | Photo Credit: Nagara Gopal Ever since the Congress-led Karnataka government came to power, it has been struggling to meet one of its major pre-poll promises — the provision of five kg of rice to Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Antyodaya card holders. This would have been in addition to the five kg of rice that is provided under the National Food Security…

CHRISTMAS ADVENT BONANZA 2K24 Day 9: Mistletoe, Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez
Tumblr media
Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez x Fem! Reader Summary: Grimmjow didn't understand human celebrations, but when you rope him into one, Grimmjow begins to see the appeal
-
A/n: it's my favorite Grimkitty!! I hope you guys are all having a wonderful day!!
-
Genre: Romance, Fluff Rated: Everyone Warning: Crude Humor, Swearing, Mean Grimmjow
-
Author: ScariusAquarius
-
It was times like that that Grimmjow tended to curse his heightened sense of smell. Spices that made his nose burn, sweets that made his stomach turn, and the scents of the humans around him blending together gave the Arrancar a headache. While Urahara was still trying to tweak his gigai in a way that would buffer the sense, it didn't work very well.
He wasn't even sure why he was even here.
Grimmjow sipped the whiskey in his glass, glaring down into the glass as he watched the ball of ice slowly melt, and he was tempted to destroy the radio as horrible, Western Christmas music echoed throughout the shop.
It was the holidays; some human celebration that Grimmjow didn't care enough about to learn of, but he knew it was highly regarded due to the amount of food, people, and gifts were being exchanged. While Grimmjow wanted to leave so badly, he wasn't exactly interested in hearing Urahara get onto his case about it.
"This is gonna really help you get acquainted with pretending to be human here, mmkay?"
What was even the fucking point? It's not like he intended to stay around here for long. He was just here for civil pleasantries and the food.
But then you walked up to him and his whole mind and body was wrapped up in your scent, and Grimmjow had to lift the glass to his nose so the strong smell of ethanol would cover your intoxicating scent.
His blue eyes regarded you in a sneer, glancing down at the gift that was in your hand, and Grimmjow raised his brow as you fidgeted before him.
Like the true predator he was, Grimmjow honed in on the way you were nervous. He could smell it through the alcohol; your scent twinged with an innocent anxiety that he wanted to tear his teeth into and feast on. Grimmjow's grip upon his glass tightened slightly, and his ears pricked as you spoke.
"I know you probably don't really care about gifts, but I didn't want you to be left out so I...got something that I thought you would like."
Grimmjow wouldn't deny that he was surprised, but he was apprehensive at the small gift that was within your hands. Placing his glass down on the table beside him, Grimmjow crossed his arms and scoffed.
"You got me a gift? What the hell for?"
You regarded him with a surprised expression before you chuckled slightly as if you remembered he wasn't exactly familiar with the concept of Christmas.
"Well, it's Christmas. Everyone gets each other gifts for the holiday."
"Sounds stupid to me. Whatever."
Deep within him, there was an innocent curiosity that begged to be stoked and nurtured. His fingers twitched, and he was unable to resist the mystery that lied within the palm of your small hands.
Grimmjow snatched the gift out of your hand, and he took delight in the way you jumped; not expecting him to take the gift despite verbally berating the idea.
Opening up the little bag, Grimmjow carelessly tossed the tissue paper out before pulling out the gift, tilting his head slightly. It was keychain, bright silver glinting within the lights of the shop. Attached to the chain was a fang, and Grimmjow glanced at you as you explained.
"It's a genuine panther fang...I requested the metal to be made with pure stainless steel that way it lasts for a long time...and because you remind me of steel with how strong and resistant you are."
You were embarrassed, glancing down at your feet, and you hummed as Grimmjow continued to stare at the keychain with a neutral expression; revealing nothing to you as you spoke.
"I just...thought that maybe you would like it, but if you don't, I can...I can return it. It really wasn't too expensive-"
Say that to the 38000 yen you were missing now, but you weren't going to tell Grimmjow that (you doubt he had grasped the concept of money yet anyway). Grimmjow cut you off before you could continue to speak, furrowing his brow at you.
"Stop your damn yappin, woman."
Your lips became pursed, and Grimmjow wasn't sure how to react. In all his life, Grimmjow hadn't received a gift just because. In the life that he had lived, there was always some sort of deal or favor that would be asked of him when given something; but there was no expectation within your eyes.
You were so nervous that you were practically shaking in your boots, unable to look him in the eye as he held the keychain up, and Grimmjow could tell you weren't trying to get him to do something or ask him anything.
So, in short, Grimmjow was downright confused. He wasn't exactly sure of the concept of gift-giving just because nor did Grimmjow understand why. What was the point? If it didn't aid him in battle or helped him to beat Kurosaki's ass, what was the point? His throat felt tight, uncharacteristic and foreign as he became awkward and unsure for once.
"The hell is the point?"
You weren't exactly sure how to answer him before shrugging, looking smaller and smaller the more Grimmjow stared at the keychain.
"I just...wanted to do something nice for you, that's all."
Grimmjow couldn't help the way his nose crinkled. He wasn't trying to be mean; he wasn't intentionally sneering at you, but Grimmjow wasn't sure of how else to be. As before, he'd never received a gift before that wasn't done out of some attempt to manipulate or control him, so this was completely new territory.
"I...I don't have anything to give you."
You looked absolutely floored by the way his voice became quiet, his hand curling around the fang and keeping it in a tight grip as he looked away, and you chuckled, making his blue eyes narrow as they shot towards you.
"You don't have to give me anything in return, Grimmjow. That's what Christmas is about: it's to celebrate friendships and those that you care about through gift-giving and just...being together."
"Just...being...together?"
His tone was questioning, looking perplexed for a second before Urahara's booming voice made the two of you jump, the man sporting a shit-eating grin as he held a fishing pole with a sprig of mistletoe above the two of you.
"What do you mean you don't have something to give in return? Why, your opportunity is right here!"
You looked horrified, Grimmjow's lips curling back in a murderous sneer, standing up straight and tall and shielding you slightly as he glared at Urahara.
"The hell is your problem? You wanna fight or something?!"
Urahara laughed loudly, Yoruiichi covering her face in the corner and shaking her head. In the back, you could faintly hear Ichigo choking on his drink as Uryu exclaimed 'what the hell is he thinking?!' while Grimmjow's ears pricked slightly.
"Oh, Grimm, you got it all wrong, my friend! This little thing right here-"
Urahara teasingly dangled the mistletoe in front of Grimmjow's face, quickly darting the sprig above Grimmjow's head when the man tried to snatch it right off of the line.
"-is mistletoe! And in human tradition, anybody that get caught beneath it with another person has to kiss them!"
Grimmjow's face was completely wiped of emotion before his hand snatched the forgotten whiskey glass from the table and swung it at Urahara, the man ducking with a laugh as his hat slowly followed. The glass shattered against the wall, and Grimmjow hissed in embarrassment.
"That's so fucking stupid, and you're not about to make a goddamn fool out of me, you bastard!"
Your hand was cool against his skin, and Grimmjow whipped his head back to look at you; feeling a strange sense of guilt at the sad look on your face.
"It's okay, Grimmjow, it's not...that serious. It's just a stupid tradition that nobody really follows anymore."
If you thought it as stupid, then why was there sadness and disappointment staining your scent like a growing disease? Did you...did you actually want to kiss him? Were you upset that Urahara was making a fool out of you as well? Grimmjow scoffed and exclaimed to Urahara, his cheeks growing warm as he said.
"Listen, dipshit, I'm not about to let you make a goddamn fool out of me. As if I would need some dumbass plant to make me kiss her."
Grimmjow then turned to you, cupping your cheeks, and he slammed his lips against yours. His heart was pounding within his chest; adrenaline rushing through his body, and Grimmjow pulled you closer when your hands rested against his chest.
At first, Grimmjow thought you were going to push him away, but instead, you melted into him; his tense muscles relaxing just the slightest.
He pulled away, his nose brushing against yours and his lips ghosting yours as the man panted, and he was aware of a bright flash. His senses kicked in again, and he hissed at Urahara, who was holding a camera and a delighted grin.
"Aw, you two are so adorable! It almost makes me think that you're ready for the real world now, Grimm Kitty."
That was it. He was gonna kill him. Grimmjow gave you the keychain back, growling.
"Hold onto this for me, will ya, woman? I'm gonna fucking kill this annoying piece of shit."
Grimmjow exited his gigai, the gigai falling forward into your arms and making you yelp and collapse while trying to hold the weight, and Grimmjow began to chase Urahara around, yelling and screaming profanities while you simply giggled with a grin on your face, holding Grimmjow's gigai close as the polaroid picture that fell from Urahara's camera landed on the ground beside you.
Thank god for mistletoe and Kisuke Urahara!

Marauders in the kitchen
James Potter is the master of all things savoury. Since he was little, he learned from his parents how to peel, fry, blend, chop, and season all kinds of food. He is in charge of everything when the gang decides to occasionally cook something. His only weakness is sweets. He can not bake for shit.
That's where Peter Pettigrew comes in. Since he likes to munch on cookies and cakes, and those can be expensive sometimes, he taught himself how to bake to save some money. It also gives him time to charge his social battery from long days of mischief with the gang.
Remus Lupin CAN cook, that's why he's usually the one who helps James, as he's got the basic skills. He can make scrambled eggs, toasts, and pancakes if he's feeling fancy, but nothing too complicated (he treats food purely as energy source, not pleasurable experience). He lives for snacks tho and he'll make the best sandwiches in Hogwarts.
Sirius Black is absolutely not allowed anywhere near the kitchen. As someone who grew up being fed already prepared 5 star meals on a silver plate, he can not cook for shit and will even burn water if he has a chance. However, he has incredible bartender skills. Every time there is a party and they don't want to drink straight up liquor, he puts his skills to use. He can make straight-up ethanol taste like juice (it's scary).

Brazil signs Fuel of the Future programme into law
Although the bill does not stipulate targets for the use of blended SAF, airlines must work towards a 10% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions between 2027 and 2037.
Tumblr media
Brazilian president Luiz Inácio de Silva has signed a national ‘Fuel of the Future’ law, previously approved by the Brazilian Congress, into law.
As approved by the lower house of Brazil’s National Congress in March 2024, the bill – alongside establishing ethanol and biodiesel blending increases for commercial gasoline and diesel – will also create a new mandate for SAF. Starting in 2027, airlines will also be required to reduce their emissions 10% by 2037. The bill was approved by 429 to 19; a large majority.
“The main goal of the Fuel of Future Program is to propose measures to increase the use of sustainable and low carbon intensity fuels, as well as the development of national vehicle technology with purpose to decarbonise the transport matrix,” explained the Brazilian government.
Embraer CEO Francisco Gomes Neto praised the decision, stating: “Our country is already a global leader in biofuels and now well-equipped to be a leader in sustainable aviation fuel…. This value chain will generate employment, income, technology and exports for the country and expand Brazil’s contribution to mitigating climate change”.

ignore the instruments, I was putting things on the table and got distracted. currently comparing monkey shoulder blended scotch whisky, appleton estate jamaican rum, and plantation golden rum, and thought I should write this down. Arranged summarily in shot glasses to emphasize how much they resemble apple juice, in a visual, I could get away with it.
I don’t know how to palate cleanse rum, and a quick google informs me unsalted crackers and plain bread is the norm. I have fridge aged sourdough bread, which will suffice for the time being. mmm, this everything small batch sourdough is really good.
monkey shoulder has a sour and strong alcohol taste that is not quite the ‘ethanol’ flavor of vodka. smells like wood, which is interesting. In comparison to the rums, tastes distinctly more like wood, and isn’t “overly” smooth, compared to some expensive spirits I vaguely remember from the past.
Appleton estate smells like fruit, or glass otherwise, and it has a really strong ‘cleaner’ alcohol sting- spreading it over your tongue makes you freeze up for a split second in shock. The smoothest of the three.
plantation rum smells like white wood (i’m no wood connoisseur, tho that sounds like a fun concept,) and this rum in comparison to the others more strongly resembles juice- some kind of unexpectedly sweet syrupy-esque flavoring, and less shocking amounts of alcohol sting. It’s a little nice, but for whatever reason feel like it’d make me sick the fastest.
Surprisingly, Appleton Estate seems to taste the “best,” if drunk on it’s own.

(via The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 will do 0-60 in just 1.66 seconds | Ars Technica)
Dodge is seeing out the Hemi V8 muscle car era with a 1,025 hp version.
Dodge has been on something of a farewell tour for its Hemi V8 muscle cars. It has built a series of "last call" versions of the Charger and Challenger, limited editions with callback paint colors and retro liveries that refer to muscle-packed Dodges of old. Now it really is getting ready to end the car design and is doing so with a bang, via the 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170, a production car so fast it can even show a Tesla Model S Plaid a clean pair of shoes with a 1.66 second 0-60 mph time. Dodge's engineers have performed quite a bit of work under that bulging "Air-Grabber" hood compared to lesser Demons. There's a new supercharger with a larger throttle body and a pulley that increases boost pressure by 40 percent compared to the Challenger Hellcat Redeye Widebody. You'll get the best results by feeding it E85 (a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline); on this fuel, the Demon 170 generates an enormous 1,025 hp (764 kW) and 945 lb-ft (1,281 Nm). On the more common E10 fuel, the engine will generate a slightly milder 900 hp (671 kW) and 810 lb-ft (1,098 Nm).

Bank of America Bets on Carbon Capture With Big Tax-Credit Deal. (Wall Street Journal)
Tumblr media
Excerpt from this Wall Street Journal story:
A climate technology that has struggled to get off the ground is getting a boost from a landmark tax-credit deal with Bank of America that is one of the largest-ever investments in carbon capture.
The bank is providing $205 million in exchange for tax credits from an ethanol producer that captures the carbon produced at a plant in North Dakota. It is the first deal of its kind since the 2022 climate law increased the tax credits available for capturing carbon and storing it underground.
Carbon capture has a dismal record but is being pursued by governments and companies as a way to reduce emissions from industries that can’t easily switch to renewable energy. The tax credits are attracting renewed interest in the technology from companies such as Exxon Mobil.
“You can only do so much renewables build-out,” Noah Zerance, a director on Bank of America’s sustainable finance team, said in an interview. “There has to be an element of trying to address the emitters that are in the market today and helping them decarbonize.”
Harvestone Low Carbon Partners, the company that raised the money, says it started capturing carbon from its plant near Underwood, N.D., last October, joining a handful of operational U.S. projects. The plant produces corn ethanol that is blended with gasoline to comply with regulations for reducing fuel emissions.
The company says the facility can capture all of its carbon emissions, totaling more than 200,000 metric tons annually. That is roughly equivalent to the annual emissions of about 42,000 gas-powered cars.
“To have a successful project speaks to the ability for us as an industry and as a nation to do these types of initiatives,” said Jeff Zueger, Harvestone’s chief executive and a longtime renewable-fuels executive.
Tax-credit funding lets project developers tap subsidies even if they generate little or no profit. While the government funding reduces risk, the deals represent a vote of confidence. Bank of America is betting the North Dakota plant will continue to operate for at least a decade and meet the criteria to qualify for subsidies.
The deal highlights how investors are betting that some parts of the Biden administration’s climate spending will withstand potential policy shifts in Washington.

I tried my new perfume from the workshop (the woman taking us through said it wait 2-3 weeks but I was impatient. Normal perfumeries wait a while year to age their scents! It softens the ethanol and helps blend ingredients or something I wasn't listening) to see what it was like and it's good! The basil top notes are Powerful but should settle as the perfume ages, it didn't really have any ethanol sharpness until a few hours in, and I could still smell the jasmine and cypress. Now right at the end it's still soft and creamy amber. It's different to what I expected but I like it! And I'm looking forward to how it settles in a month! I'm going to take it on my little spontaneous home visit this weekend but I'll have to wait til mid aug to test it for real because of work trip, or even later because I'm getting my wisdom teeth out then and won't care at all about perfume when I'm mourning the loss of crunchy food and my TEETH.

science blues ofc
dammit I just posted two excerpts of that one because I couldn't choose. oh well I will just have to post a third how terrible <3
The new glass was identical to the old one, but the drink itself was a perfect Science Blue. Jim had spent enough time staring at the back of Spock’s tunic to commit the color to memory. Well, it wasn’t exactly the tunic he was staring at. It was just in the way.  No. Jim refocused his attention on the glass in front of him.  “It won’t get you drunk if you just stare at it,” Carmel remarked dryly, and Jim startled as if awakened from a trance.  He examined the drink, sniffed it, but besides the tell-tale whiff of ethanol found nothing recognizable. He drank slowly, savoring the first sip, allowed it to settle on his taste buds.  Was this what Spock’s lips tasted like? He scolded himself for asking the question, even in his own head. It was completely… well, completely illogical.  Jim took another careful sip. There was no Earth analogue for the flavors that blended together to create the Science Blue.  He had visited a planet, once, with a perfectly blue lagoon. He didn’t remember the name of the planet, but he remembered being mesmerized by the way the light hit the water. Maybe there was a scientific reason, or maybe it was just a hot day, but he’d decided to investigate, and he’d waded halfway across before he realized the bottom was quicksand. Spock had pulled him out; dragged him, exhausted and sputtering, to the shore, where Jim had quite gracefully collapsed on top of him, coughing up saltwater.  Carmel’s concoction tasted something like that.
The important thing about this fic is Jim is maximum pathetic and emo. And the Andorian drag queen named Intergalactica.
