You will be guaranteed to earn respect within seconds of gracing anyone's presence.
Embrace Growth Without Succumbing To Your Perfectionist Expectations: Remember that every skill, successful relationship, and goal takes time and experience. No one has it all figured out. It’s okay if you’re not where you expected to be or desire to be at this stage of your life. Stop comparing yourself – we all have our own paths. Choose to do one small thing every day to make your life better – either a step towards reaching a goal or indulging in a deep desire. Ensure there's a healthy (not necessarily equal) balance between the two. Leave your future self better than you found your past self. Express compassion towards yourself and acknowledge that you’re doing your best. Everything starts to make considerably more sense in hindsight.

Ways to use magickal oils: for witches and non-witches
In your beauty routine:
Depending on the carrier oil, spell oils can be a great addition to skin care and hair care! Some carrier oils provide a lot of skin and hair benefits.
Castor oil contains triglycerides, which help maintain moisture in the skin. This can help with dry skin. Castor oil can also be applied generously as a hair mask and wash off, or apply very liberally to the ends of hair to help with frizz. This is depending on hair type.
Grapeseed oil is an effective treatment to decrease split ends. On the skin, grapeseed oil can help with breakouts, treat dry skin, and gently fade some scars. It’s also non-comedogenic meaning it won’t clog pores. This could be a good option for someone with oily skin.
Sweet almond oil has a lot of vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and antioxidants that can sooth both the skin and hair. It can help approve the appearance of dry and irritated skin.
Jojoba oil is anti-inflammatory and can reduce redness, help with chaffing, and keep skin calm. For hair, it can strengthen hair strands and reduce hair porosity buildup. It is both antifungal and antibacterial.
Sunflower seed oil can make hair shiny and strong. It can help tame frizz as well as treat dandruff. When used on the skin, it can help skin retain moisture.
*Always be wary of your skin sensitivities and allergies when buying or making your own oil blends.
Ways to use them in your beauty routine:
Add a few drops to your bath for aromatherapy.
Mix a few drops into your liquid soap (great for cleansing and/or protection!)
Mix a few drops in your palm with your favorite lotion. Rub it into your skin while saying affirmations.
Deposit a few drops through your hair while damp.
Dab it on your pressure points to use as perfume.
If you make soap, add a few drops into your soap for a magickal boost.
In your cooking:
Some carrier oils can be great to cook with! *Make sure not to add essential oils to these blends and use food safe herbs. You’re responsible for your own allergens.
Olive oil is already a pantry staple for many people. Try making an oil blend steeping your favorite kitchen herbs and spices in olive oil to use in your cooking.
Avocado oil is another great oil you can do this with if you prefer.
Coconut oil is solid at room temperature, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use it as an oil blend. Heat up the amount you want in a pot and add your herbs. Keep the heat low to infuse your herbs then place into a jar to solidify.
In magick:
Oils are super versatile and they’re a staple for many witches. The most common way they’re used is to anoint candles for spells and rituals. This can even go as far as anointing deity candles as an offering.
They can also be used to anoint objects. By taking a small amount of oil and rubbing it onto an object, you can add energy and charm it with your intention. This works for talismans as well.
You can also anoint yourself! Certain points on the body can be anointed depending on your intention. Anoint your throat with a confidence oil before giving a presentation to aid in communication; anoint your forehead with a psychic oil to aid in divination; anoint your pressure points with a love oil to draw someone in.
The possibilities are endless.

Cyperus Rotundus Report:
There's been some recent buzz about Cyperus Rotundus oil for long term hair removal and I've been doing some digging.
While Cyperus is a well established medicinal herb (and infamous agricultural weed) the only two academic studies that seem to exist on it's role in hair removal are a pair of 2012 and 2014 studies by GF Mohammed, an Egyptian dermatology/sexology/venereology professor. Both follow the same basic methods and show the same basic results:
Cis women with unwanted armpit hair massaged .25mls of distilled Cyperus Rotundus essential oil to the target area twice daily, during the study they plucked hairs from the area every 3 weeks (sugaring or threading) and applied oil immediately after hair removal.
They followed this protocol for 6 months. They were evaluated after 8 months, which was 2 months without the treatment and 1 month after their last hair removal.
Results were shockingly good! Showing a more than 90% hair reduction at that point, statistically equivalent to laser for dark hair and fully effective against white hair that laser isn't effective against. (This is the data for the 2014 study, the 2012 is basically identical just with a larger group and no laser comparison group).
This discussion of potential mechanisms boils down to "Cyperus rotundus is rich in potent components such as flavonoids, lignans, and polyphenols.30-33 Flavonoids and lignans have estrogenic activity that may inhibit 5α-reductase and 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase via differential transcription activity of an estrogen-response element reporter.34-36 Thus, hair follicles that are entirely androgen dependent can be minimized.1,21,35"
The discussion surrounding these results doesn't tell us much though. There's no discussion of whether or not the author thinks plucking the hair is significant (they just say participants removed hair via "their usual method (sugaring/threading). No discussion of how the dosage was determined or how long results might last/what a long term regiment to maintain results might look like.
Which is to say, maybe it's doing local hormone shit and maybe that's via 5α-reductase and 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase. Wikipedia tells me 5alpha is tied to steroid metabolism (with both estrogen and androgens) and that 17beta is involved with the " interconversion of DHEA and androstenediol, androstenedione and testosterone, and estrone and estradiol." This is largely beyond me so for now I'm sticking with, "maybe Cyperus Rotundus does some local hormone shit."
Initially I was dismissive of this explanation (after all, lower systemic androgen levels might lighten hair or make it thinner but androgen-activating hair follicles famously persists regardless of androgen levels. But I've seen some studies suggesting that local androgen levels can interact with hair follicles growth stages in some weird ways, including shortening the Anagen growing phase and maybe increasing the time duration of the rest period before a follicle resets to Anagen.
I wasn't able to find much anecdotal evidence and what I could find wasn't over large time periods, but some Reddit reports noted that even after just a week or so it seemed like hairs were coming out from the root when shaving (ie the length of hairs stuck to the raser was substantially longer than the length visible before shaving) and other noted a dramatically increased consistency of plucked hairs have a bulb (a sign that they were in the anagen growth phase before being plucked and that they actually pulled out from the root and didn't break midway).
Hair follicle growth phase and follicle damage is *weird,* I got midway into a deep dive and started losing focus so I'm posting this with less details than I'd like, but I think there's strong evidence that C Rotundus oil in some way affects the growth phases of follicles in a way that suppresses growth (at least short to mid term). It also seems vaguely possible that the oil somehow makes the follicles more susceptible to damage from the hair getting plucked. As I understand it damage to the follicle is far from guaranteed, but happens regularly with plucking. Tho generally it's only enough damage to push the follicle towards being inactive for a period of months and then coming back good as new, not much of a vector for permanent hair elimination.
The fact that results last months after treatment ends is sick. I figure this could suggest that the relevant medicinal compounds just hang around for a long time (if I circle back to this I'll see if there's halflife data on the potentially relevant compounds). If they do hang around on the scale of months than the twice daily application is probably major overkill.
I also think it's feasible (based off my v limited knowledge) that the C Rotundus effect pushes the follicles into an extended rest period, you stop applying the oil and the follicles stay in track to wait out that rest period before activating again.
And ofc there could be a vector for actual permanent hair removal that I just can't think of, but my slightly informed opinion is that that seems unlikely.
.
Side effects are supposed to be basically non-existent (the only object the studies cite is that some ppl don't like the smell of the oil).
I think the main question for me is figuring out what dosing looks like long term. (Do you cycle on and off, do you apply weekly, is daily application most of the time actually important? Etc)
It's also unclear if plucking vs shaving is important. I've been a big fan of epilating lately so that's what I'll be doing and it seems like it should pair nicely with what I expect from C Rotundus but more data from more ppl trying more different shit with this would be rly tight!!
if any of y'all try it out I'd love to hear how it goes <3 <3 <3
Also I probably have the citations for all of the shit I'm referencing around somewhere and can dig them up if anything is of interest.

now I wanna know- why isn't drinking water free in the US?
Hi there friend! Thanks very much for taking the bait from this post. Buckle up, this is a long one.
If you want to put out a cistern and collect rainwater and use that, congratulations! Your water is free! Plus the cost of maintaining your cistern and keeping it clean. If you’re lucky enough to live somewhere with a high enough water table to have a well, then your water is also free + the cost of the well and well maintenance.
But if you want water to come out of your tap on demand and you can’t or don’t want to maintain a cistern and you can’t or don’t want to have a well… you need public water!
How do we get public water? Well, a government entity (usually. there are some private utilities, but that’s a different post. I have strong feelings) has rights to take water out of a river or a lake, or they have a reservoir, or they have access to an aquifer. Then they have to transport the water out of the source. This generally requires aqueducts or massive pipes, which are expensive and need to be maintained, which is also expensive. The pipe leading out of one of my utility’s reservoirs is 12 feet in diameter.
Does the water go directly from the source to your home? Nope! It gets piped to a water filtration plant! The process of modern water filtration is complicated but it involves both physical and chemical treatment to make sure the water isn’t carrying any parasites, harmful bacteria, or pollutants and it has the right pH. Not only are these filtration plants extremely expensive to build and maintain but the process of operating them is extremely expensive, both in terms of hiring skilled staff and having appropriate materials for the filters and chemical treatment.
After the treated water (called “finished water” in the biz) is ready it does get piped to your house.
If you use public water, do you know where your local water filtration plant is? No? That probably means it’s not in your immediate neighborhood, which probably means it’s several miles or more away. To get to your house, the water needs to travel through an extensive pipe network. These pipes are smaller but they have to remain pressurized so that no contaminants can get into the water on its way to your house. But pipes break! Especially if you live somewhere with a freeze/thaw cycle. Maintaining this pipe network is, you guessed it, expensive! It requires materials and extremely skilled workers who perform in very very difficult conditions. Plus lots of engineering to keep the whole system pressurized even when one part of it breaks. Oh, and you know what lots of pipes were made out of in the early 20th century? Lead! So all around the country utilities need to make extensive and costly infrastructure upgrades because now we know lead pipes are really freaking bad.
Okay, so you get the basic picture. And I haven’t even gotten into Safe Drinking Water Act compliance, but most of that happens at the filtration plant. Oo! Or desalinization because some utilities pull their water from the sea and need to take the salt out. I know basically nothing about this except that it is likely complicated and expensive to do at scale.
This is essentially why I get frustrated by people who argue “why should we pay for something that falls out of the sky?” Because finished water doesn’t fall from the sky and it sure as hell doesn’t fall from the sky into your faucet. (Side note: as a public utility official I have been screamed at by the “it falls from the sky” people. A thing I like about the private sector is that people scream at me a lot less.)
Now, there is a very strong argument to be made that because water is necessary for human life, it should be provided by the government for free to everyone. And just like the costs of roads or public education, this should be part of the public budget and paid for by taxes and no one should have a water bill. I don’t disagree with this. I’m sure that’s how it’s done in some countries.
I don’t have a well-researched answer on the history of water utilities but I do have some facts and some (very) educated conjectures. Water rights in the US are complicated (another separate post!) but they’re based on private ownership. Ever since white people came to this country people have been claiming ownership over water and charging each other money for taking water out of rivers or lakes or the ground. You can measure how much of it someone uses and charge them for it. Water is treated like a commodity because unlike other public goods, it *can* be treated like a commodity and then, you know, capitalism. Again, I’m not saying that’s right.
But as a society, if we believe that no one should have a water bill, then we need to figure out how to pay for all the very expensive steps in the process I outlined at the top. Could that just be taxes? Sure, if you have a system that supports taxes at that level. Do I believe that public funding of water infrastructure would be a fuckton better than a lot of things we use taxes for now? Absolutely! But that requires massive institutional change and this isn’t generally an issue that people know enough about to demand change.
If you read this far, congratulations! You now know more stuff about drinking water!
#hey if you enjoyed reading this consider reblogging it#it took me a while to write up#and I love educating people about this stuff#also if you have follow up questions please send them along#miro does asks#miro irl#drinking water#public utilities#water utilities#public water#long post

how to reduce acne (and what is acne)
acne is a skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells. it typically results in whiteheads, blackheads or pimples that can appear on the face, forehead, chest, upper back and shoulders. acne is most prevalent among teens but can affect people of all ages. several factors contribute to acne, such as excess oil production, buildup of dead skin cells, bacterial growth and inflammation.
acne is not inherently 'bad' but it is a source of discomfort for many people. while acne itself is not a bad thing, it can lead to potential complications if not managed properly, such as scarring or emotional distress.
when reading this post, it is important to remember that everyone's skin is different and what works for one person may not work for another. i'd like to add that i am not a dermatologist, and this post is written with my own experience in mind as well as research online.
reducing acne involves a combination of skincare practices and lifestyle adjustments. here are some recommended actions:
properly wash your face cleanse your face twice daily to remove excess oil, sweat and dirt. some common face washing mistakes include using the wrong cleanser, over-washing your face, under-washing your face, the wrong water temperature and using a dirty washcloth. don't worry if this all seems confusing, here's a post on how to properly wash your face.
know your skin type use products suitable for your skin type only--oily, dry, combination or sensitive. you can find this out by visiting a dermatologist or (alternatively) researching the skin types and seeing which best matches your skin.
moisturise moisturiser curbs dryness, which balances oil production in your face and therefore helps to prevent acne. choose a non-comedogenic moisturiser to not clog your pores.
consider over-the-counter treatments think about acne treatments with ingredients like benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid.
stay hydrated drink plenty of water to maintain skin hydration. good hydration helps to maintain skin elasticity, supports the skin's protective functions and prevents sunburn, sensitivity and oiliness. women should drink about 2.7L of fluids every day (including water, other beverages and food).
limit makeup use minimal makeup and ensure that it is non-comedogenic. don't stop wearing makeup if it is something you enjoy, however, try to limit it in acne-strong areas.
don't touch your face this is a big one, and yet so many people do it. keep your hands away from your face to prevent the spread of bacteria. seriously, you use your hands for so much--you don't want the germs of everything you've touched on your face.
limit sun exposure protect your skin with appropriate sunscreen. and remember to re-apply! limiting sun exposure also reduces skin cancer risk. balance is key, though, because the sun is necessary for vitamin d production and maintaining circadian rhythms.
exercise regularly physical activity can help reduce stress, which may contribute to acne.
enjoy a healthy diet eating a well-balanced diet can support skin health. consider reducing dairy and high glycemic foods. a diet with a low glycemic index may help balance hormone levels, which is the same effect when insulin spikes occur less. essential nutrients promote skin health and help to repair and maintain the skin barrier.
invest in stress management find ways to reduce stress, such as journaling or going for a walk. stress can worsen acne. this is because, under stress, the body's healing process slows down, meaning acne can take longer to heal and become more severe. stress hormones can also increase oil production, leading to clogged pores.

Unlocking the secrets to hair growth
Introduction
Whether you're dealing with thinning hair, or simply looking to enhance your look, understanding the science of hair growth can be a game-changer. In recent years, people have turned to simple, natural remedies with compelling anecdotal and scientific support. This article explores three key practices—cold showers, rosemary water, and a diet rich in specific nutrients—that could transform your hair care routine.
1. Cold showers
Cold showers might seem daunting, but they offer more than just a wake-up jolt. One of the most intriguing benefits of cold water is its ability to improve blood circulation. When you expose your scalp to cold water, your blood vessels constrict, and then rapidly dilate, flooding the scalp with nutrient-rich blood. This process enhances the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to hair follicles, potentially boosting hair growth.
Moreover, cold showers help to reduce scalp inflammation and irritation—two common culprits behind hair loss. A calmer, healthier scalp creates a better environment for hair to thrive. So, while that cold rinse might make you shiver, it could also be giving your hair the vitality it needs.
2. Rosemary water
For centuries, rosemary has been revered not just for its culinary uses, but for its medicinal properties. When it comes to hair care, rosemary water is gaining recognition as a natural tonic that could help stimulate hair growth. The magic lies in compounds like rosmarinic acid and caffeic acid, which have powerful antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.
These compounds do more than just cleanse your scalp—they actively enhance blood circulation and protect hair follicles from damage. In fact, research has shown that rosemary oil can be as effective as some prescription treatments for hair loss, making it a natural alternative worth trying. Regular use of rosemary water might just be the key to revitalizing your hair and maintaining a healthy scalp.
3. Eggs
Eggs are often celebrated as a superfood, and when it comes to hair health, they certainly live up to the hype. Rich in high-quality protein, eggs also contain biotin (vitamin B7), which is essential for the production of keratin—the protein that forms the structure of your hair.
But there's a catch: to unlock the full benefits of biotin in eggs, they need to be cooked. Raw eggs contain avidin, a protein that binds to biotin and prevents its absorption. Cooking denatures avidin, freeing up biotin so your body can absorb it more effectively. So, the next time you whip up an omelet or scramble some eggs, know that you're not just satisfying your hunger—you're also nourishing your hair.
4. Additional tips
Beyond cold showers, rosemary water, and eggs, there are several other science-backed strategies you can incorporate into your routine for optimal hair health:
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Found in fish like salmon, flaxseeds, and walnuts, omega-3s are vital for scalp health. They help reduce inflammation and provide the essential fats needed for strong, healthy hair.
Zinc: Zinc is crucial for tissue growth and repair, including your hair. A lack of zinc can lead to hair loss, so make sure to include zinc-rich foods like pumpkin seeds, nuts, and shellfish in your diet.
Vitamin D: Often dubbed the "sunshine vitamin," vitamin D plays a role in creating new hair follicles. Regular sun exposure and foods like fatty fish or fortified milk can help keep your levels in check.
Iron: Iron deficiency is a common cause of hair loss, particularly in women. Incorporating iron-rich foods like spinach, red meat, and lentils into your diet can help keep your hair strong and vibrant.

recently i realized i havent given... any context, really, on kiru's family outside of her being yana's cousin, which is honestly a little shocking because i think about it a LOT and it provides a lot of context for why she presents herself the way she does, both in terms of physical appearance and in terms of actions/character as a whole. i also need to explain the nature of her relationship with yana, so this will be the tell-all on kiru's upbringing, as well as some elaboration on her general disposition! you know the drill! this one ended up being much longer than some of my other long winded posts, which is a little scary. but under the cut we go!
BEFORE I START i do want to disclaim: for the sake of canon compliance, assume anything i say about kiru's parents [particularly her mother] and grandparents' attitudes doesn't apply to yanagida's upbringing or family. as much as i love headcanons and speculating about background characters [theres a reason s1e9 is my favorite episode], i also want kiru's lore to be taken somewhat independently from those headcanons/interpretations if so desired :-)
In order to make things a little less confusing [mostly for myself, because im very scatterbrained], i have a little family tree graphic. thing. mostly to keep track of names + relations and all that! ill be referring to kiru's parents by name for that same reason. but uhhh tada 🎉
OKAY BUT FOR REAL. the actual timeline is like this: kiru's childhood was pretty normal to start. her mother [mayumi] was a bit strict, but it wasn't anything too crazy, though she did prefer spending time with her dad [kentaro] during this time. this was all upended around the time she was eight, though, when her family had to move into her grandparents' home after her dad fell ill. kentaro, a lifelong smoker, had developed lung cancer, and the costly nature of treatments for his condition meant that they could no longer afford to life in their old house. in addition, kentaro's condition meant that mayumi had to essentially take over as his caretaker at home during this time, leaving kiru's grandparents as the ones to raise her.
i imagine this side of her family had a decent amount of social power within the community [this may just be a thing in my town, but you know those families where it feels like theyre kind of everywhere, like the school staff, the local politicians, etc.? theyre like that], which led to her grandparents being quite strict, if not authoritarian to a degree, with a particular emphasis on what behaviors were considered "acceptable". as such, while kiru was greatly encouraged in her academic endeavors, there was near equal pressure on how she presented herself outside of her studies. while the physical aspect of "dress neatly and maintain good hygiene" was part of this presentation, it also included a HEAVY emphasis on her emotional regulation. It reached a point where she began to suppress nearly any strong emotions she had, because she felt that there was never a Right time to feel or express them.
^ it was kind of like this. not really any forceful or outright Mean enforcement of this ideal, but definitely a conditioning that was strong enough to impact kiru, especially at such a young age. past this i think they would be fairly normal as far as grandparents go, just not quite as nurturing.
even in the present day, kiru's calm demeanor is only really maintained because of her belief that sharing her feelings would disgust or embarrass the people around her. growing up, strong expression of any emotion was childish and unsightly, and she still conducts herself with this in mind; its not something she feels about others, but she doesnt extend the grace she gives others in this regard to herself.
BUT back to the timeline. after moving in with her grandparents, kiru got a bit closer to yanagida, who would often visit their home, since yknow. same city and all. during this time kiru was pretty lonely, since kentaro's illness meant she had to spend less time with him, and as a result her and yana spent much of that time together instead. yana particularly enjoyed kiru's knowledge of english, since kentaro primarily spoke bonin standard english in the home + taught kiru the language. in turn, kiru appreciated that yana didnt see her through the same lens of "respectable young girl" that everyone else in the family seemed to have picked up since moving, and they were able to meet each other on more of an equal level of just being friends.
this pattern continued up until kiru was 10, when kentaro passed away. aside from the obvious, this was a particularly stressful time for kiru and mayumi, since kentaro wanted to be buried in Chichijima + have his funeral procession held there. as a result, kiru spent about a month of that summer away from home, on the island with her father's side of the family. away from the eagle eye of her mother, she tried to make the most of the time, but found herself too distraught to enjoy any of it to the fullest. she was too ill-equipped to tell her relatives there how she was really feeling, so they mostly carried on with the impression that a young kiru was being "strong" in the face of kentaro's death and was taking it well, even though it was quite far from the truth. upon her return to mainland japan to start her new school year, most of her family carried on with the impression that all had returned to normal. that is, except for yanagida.
obviously, only being about thirteen at the time of kentaro's death and not really having a strong understanding of the expectations kiru was under at home [not to mention having the emotional intelligence typical of a boy his age-- that is to say, not much], he didn't really understand Why her behavior had changed so much since moving in with her grandparents, or why her demeanor had taken a near 180 in that time. but he didn't really need to understand the why to know that Something was wrong, even before kentaro had passed.
what he wasnt expecting, though, was her breaking down sobbing the second he asked her how she was doing after she got back from chichijima. since yana was Also a kid, and had never put on the same pressure that the rest of the family put on on her, kiru felt a bit safer talking to him with the confidence that he wouldnt berate her for feeling that way or be disappointed in her. he consoled her about as well as he could [or as well as any 13 year old boy could] and assured her she could come to him if she was ever feeling down, but instead she assured him she would be fine.
after this event, yana started worrying about her quite a bit, but he wasnt really sure how to go about Expressing this concern [either to her or anyone else], so he just kind of let it sit there. as time went on, and kiru started to return to a more cheery persona, he let go of that worry for the most part and they returned to their old routine fun for the time being.
yanagida wasnt the only person whose relationship with kiru changed after kentaro's death, though. mayumi, who was wholly unequipped to handle the intense grief that kentaro's passing brought her, was wracked with a mixture of guilt, anger, and resentment; she regretted having ever met and married him, now knowing the pain it would come to cause her, and she even began to regret kiru's birth. its a feeling she was deeply ashamed of. she loved her daughter, but every time she looked at kiru, every time she heard her name, mayumi was acutely aware of the fact that kentaro was no longer there to share these memories, that he wasn't going to be there to see her grow any further. ashamed as she was of this feeling, it never fully went away, even if she made efforts to ignore it. the gap left between them was never fully mended, and though kiru couldn't place it at the time she definitely got the sense that mayumi didn't really want her around. as a result, kiru began to spend a bit more time around her grandparents, whom she had grown closer to since they were the ones raising her for the past couple of years.
as junior high rolled around for kiru, and as yanagida was going into high school, the distance between them grew as well; yanagida was beginning to exercise more independence from his family and spend more time with friends, and kiru was doing the same. they still made time for one another, though, walking home together once in a while when yanagida wasn't in the mood for hanging out with his friends. most of the time, though, they just stuck to their new groups. it was a small period of respite and was actually pretty chill for kiru, all things considered
once it came time for kiru to start testing into different high schools, mayumi became a bit more involved with her daughter's life. more specifically, she became more involved in how kiru presents herself; if youre a daughter [or former daughter] youre probably familiar with the specific underhanded flavor of body shaming she experienced. kiru and yanagida also lost contact during this time, as yanagida was preparing to enter college and they were both too busy to keep up with one another too well. he was definitely a little concerned with all these changes regarding her appearance, though
now, to this point, i want to say that mayumi was NOT being intentionally malicious or even aware of her harm during this time. during her youth, mayumi was ridiculed and ostracized for a more unkempt appearance that came as a result of an intense focus on her academic endeavors and matters other than her looks. not wanting to see her daughter endure the same thing, she tried to encourage kiru to put more care into her appearance. even so, her tactless expression of this concern ended up hurting kiru more than anything else.
high school came and went, with kiru attending St. Hanagaoka's, a prestigious all-girls school in the city. nothing particularly bad happened during this time, but kiru regards this time in her life rather poorly, because she spent most of it trying to Appear a certain way, rather than living how she actually wanted to live. its during this time that kiru became more acutely aware of much of her desires and identity; as femininity began to feel more like a prison, she found herself looking at the boys her age a bit differently. she had a boyfriend or two during her time at school, sure, but she never really felt that it was any different from having a friend. slowly, she realized the feelings she thought were admiration, or crushes on boys, were really just a sense of longing; she longed to dress like them, to be able to cut her hair short like them, even to pursue love with girls the way that they did. though she was still quite confident that she was a woman, she knew she wasn't the kind of woman her family wanted her to be.
as such, when she finally got into college, kirumi cut contact with her mother and grandparents almost completely. her first year of college was a year of rebellion and experimentation; primarily with her appearance. at first she'd wondered if her discomfort for feminine clothing was the result of the KIND of femininity she was portraying, but quickly realized this wasnt the case. so the kirumi futch era was only about a semester long. after this, she started to present as more masculine, and this is around the time when she starts getting more concerned with fitness in terms of strength; she didn't manage to get built like yuko miyamoto just by standing around, after all! its during this time that kiru also began to make actual friends, though her problems with connecting to others emotionally made this a rather difficult endeavor when it came to maintaining those relationships.
during her second year of college, her grandparents both passed, roughly six months from one another, due to old age. while she had mixed feelings on the matter due to her strained relationship with them, she still attended both funerals. at the latter of the two, her and mayumi got into a bit of a fight because of a comment mayumi made about kiru "destroying" herself. this ended up pushing kiru, out of pure spite, to shave her head the second she got back on campus.
it ended up being a mistake.
not one without a silver lining, though! this drastic change in appearance ended up catching the eye of one of her acquaintances, who was a close friend of her roommate. you might know her as keiko :-)
during this time, keiko was just starting her transition, and was still getting a feel for the big city. the two initially bonded over a shared love of terrible movies [as one of kiru's biggest hobbies is watching shitty movies to laugh at them], and kiru gave keiko many of her old clothes + some tips for hair and makeup now that she no longer needed them. but over time, they became quite close. in particular, they bonded over the fact that they experienced pretty strong discomfort towards gender roles and expectations in their upbringing; while keiko's family was much more loving and supportive than kiru's, she still felt an intense obligation to be seen as ""man enough"", mainly to her peers, having been bullied quite intensely during her high school years for her transness.
i could probably write a whole separate post about kiru and keiko's relationship [not any time soon though. jesus.], but the long and short of it is that they became a couple during their third year together at college :-) this is also the year that kiru secured her job at the butcher's shop in akatsuka, having been a bit of a floater before then.
after graduating with her bachelor's, kiru began to attend a veterinary school in pursuit of a doctorate in the field. they lived separately, but visited one another's apartments about as frequently as could be managed.
one summer, when school was out and she was less busy, kiru began volunteering at a local animal shelter, wherein she met and fell in love with a little cat named kabosu. after adopting her that autumn, on one particularly busy night, kabosu broke out of the apartment, and... hey, i've told this part of the story before!
past that, uh... not really a lot to say! i have a whole storyline thought out about kiru and yanagida getting back into contact + how that intertwines with some other family drama on kiru's side of things, but thats an idea that i want to dedicate a different post to since i have. a LOOOOOT of thoughts on that whole arc. ill do that eventually but again, definitely not anytime soon. if i make another post like this too soon i think my brain will explode
BUT YEAH! if you managed to read this far, thank you!! i put a LOT of thought and consideration into kiru's background; i didnt want it to be like. senselessly edgy. since this IS a gag anime in the end. even still i am a sucker for complicated family dynamics so i tried my best to strike a good balance there
#larry time#ocs#kiru#long post#<- i dont usually use that tag but this ones a doozy.#i have a lot more thoughts about the nature of mayumi and kiru's relationship#as well as her relationship to her grandparents#i wouldnt say theyre particularly heinous or intentionally evil or anything like that because um. theyre people.#but i still wanted to show how like... misguided attempts/good intentions from an ill-equipped parent can still be really harmful#and that mixed with grief is especially damaging#but i dont know if i worded it well here and this post is already so long#so those thoughts will just stay in my mind.#anyways im starting to get scared of posting this so im just gonna throw it into the ether and hope for the best GOODBYEEEEE

how does hisa feel about mordremoth/heart of thorns? do they have any relation to the story at all?
Sorry for getting to this so late. I wrote a whole novel and then i realized I needed to be normal about mordremoth and mordrem so I scaled it back.
They don't personally get involved with Mordremoth/Heart of Thorns. Jochen is my mordrem character and he gets involved because he's in the Pact and his airship goes down. His entire team is trapped in the jungle and his Warmaster becomes fully paranoid and starts imprisoning sylvari. As the situation gets worse and mordrem pick off his team, the warmaster graduates to wanting to execute sylvari to save the rest of his team. Jochen feels like it's become mordrem or die, so he falls to Mordremoth and kills his whole team. That's my main HoT/mordrem character.
Hisa's shielded from Mordremoth by a ward basically; they don't hear Mordremoth's whispers and they're entirely disconnected from sylvari at this point. Their focus in the scope of Mordremoth/HoT is the treatment of sylvari and the increasing fear/hatred of them. Hisa basically has to defend their position as a mob boss in the LA underworld from people becoming increasingly wary of them. They essentially crack down on dissidents and keep a stranglehold on their power so no one can challenge them. No mercy behavior, they'll kill anyone who is a threat to them.
They have a soft spot for mordrem though. To them, it makes sense that sylvari come from Mordremoth. They've always felt that Wyld Hunts are just a way for the Pale Tree to program her offspring to carry out duties/missions, and that sylvari culture has dressed up this programming into something honorable and of value. To know it comes from Mordremoth feels like they've peeked behind the curtain and it just all makes sense. They're minions, and their minion programming has been hijacked and changed so it's less lethal. It's not really the mordrem's fault they are what they are, and people who fell to Mordremoth were pushed to do so.
With the death of Mordremoth and a bunch of sylvari and mordrem being left behind without direction--that's a good deal for them tbh :~) Hisa might have a soft spot for them but they're Evil and opportunistic, and what's that? Strong powerful people who now lack a purpose and a direction? Hisa's always in the market for new muscle and new henchmen. If they can recruit people into following them, and better yet devoting their lives to them? Mordrem or sylvari or anyone who are lost and will make Hisa their new guiding figure/light? They love that. They can get so many new henchmen who are SO loyal
tldr Mordremoth makes sense, Hisa buckled down and maintained their power in LA just by being more ruthless, and mordrem/lost sylvari make for great henchmen

Politics! Euphonium: A short essay
(I’d like to say I spent a week thinking about this, but in reality I was just late watching the newest episode, for like—work and stuff :D)
The biggest reason Hibike! Euphonium presents such engaging political theater involves the dynamic between the president and vice president of the Kitauji High School band. Whether through serendipity or conscious planning, the two highest-ranking members of the band have presented staunchly different but compatible leadership styles that ultimately life the band’s competitive abilities—sometimes at the expense of the band’s cohesion.
Haruka and Asuka led the band in Kumiko’s first year as president and vice-president, respectively, and they could not have had more contrasting styles. Haruka was a peacemaker, deferent to a fault and rarely outspoken unless absolutely needed. Asuka was the life of the party, magnetic and popular and absurdly talented—surely the better pick to lead the band.
Except Asuka was never motivated by the band’s success, but by her own journey within the band. She had no patience for slackers or less-talented members (which was just about everybody else in the band) and only put on her party mask as a way to keep the mood light. Her shortcomings as a leader were fatal—and she knew that. What the band needed in a leader was a punching bag to absorb all the blows that Asuka dodged, someone resilient enough to maintain shape despite receiving punch after punch—even if she wasn’t terribly inspiring to begin with. Haruka was the president Kitauji needed even if Asuka was the leader Kitauji wanted.
The roles swapped in Kumiko’s second year.
Yuuko—the outspoken and brutally honest linchpin—ascended to the presidency with the equally honest but more tactful Natsuki as her second-in-command. Again, an oil-and-water pairing—even more so with legitimate animosity between the two—that ended up maturing into the leadership tandem Kitauji needed to take a step up in their performance. With Yuuko’s tough love and Natsuki’s cynical comfort, they formed another pairing for our next leadership group to look up to.
And, girl, has it had a rough start.
A lot of that is on Kumiko, the newly minted president, but some of it falls on Asuka, the drum major and power behind the throne. If this were Congress, Kumiko would be the speaker of the House and Reina would be the whip. With an actual whip that she would whip people with.
Reina being a hardass to the least-experienced and most scared members of the band was the most predictable thing in the world. Reina not caring about whether the band’s weakest links leave or not was similarly predictable. What was difficult to predict was Kumiko’s reaction to Reina’s tough treatment.
After all, Kumiko signed off on the band’s desire to aim for gold at the nationals—Reina is just following her lead. And Kumiko would never undermine or even challenge her wife’s behavior, even if it makes her own work as president more difficult. How should she proceed?
Ultimately, Kumiko takes the time to listen to the overwhelmed and disgruntled first years, following her own advice to treat every member as an essential pieces to the band’s success. The shortcomings she presented in her first year—her desire to be well-liked and avoid conflict as much as possible—actually serve her well in a position that requires never-ending politicking and compromise. Could you imagine Reina leading negotiations?
What makes Kumikio a perfect president is her understanding that this is just high school band and student enrichment should take a meaningful precedence over winning a shiny medal. Not that she’ll ever tell anyone that, of course. Everyone has set the same goal to win that medal, after all.
Whether all of this will end up working out is anyone’s guess (actually it’s not, I just haven’t read the novels :X), but I have a strong feeling that Kitauji is set up to whether any storm with Kumiko and Reina at the helm.
You’re probably wondering where the current vice-president Shun fits into all of this. The answer is nowhere because Shun is a waste of time that doesn’t merit discussion. Essay done.

A long rambling post about US Healthcare
Alright so waiting didn't really help me parse out what I want to say but a big pillar of our online community passed away suddenly because of what amounts- frankly- to the gross negligence and cruelty of the US healthcare system.
For those of you who don't know Furaffinity is essentially THE cornerstone of the centralized furry and monsterlover community and the site was, for a long time, run by a guy named Dragoneer LARGELY by himself. This website hosted community ads, moderated its own content, and maintained a welcoming and corporation-free space for artists and other creatives to do their thing. My involvement in furaffinity has been pretty low key but I firmly believe that monsterfuckers and furries are only spitting distance apart at best so I feel a strong camaraderie and sense of kinship with them. As for how Dragoneer ran Furaffinity, what I can tell you personally is that FA was one of only TWO websites that will allow me to advertise TCM and when I emailed to get ads set up and configured, Dragoneer answered those emails personally.
Dragoneer had chronic issues that were difficult to diagnose for a while and reading his twitter/journal posts paints a really depressing, heartbreaking story of frustration, misdirection, and the banality of pure evil. Dragoneer was denied care he deserved because of the bureaucratic void that is our healthcare system here in America. He was charged tens of thousands of dollars for inconclusive tests, ordered to wait at home with minimal or no treatment, and this culminated in his rapid decline and sudden death last night.
Our healthcare system is traumatic and one incident, one accident, one sickness can financially ruin any of us permanently.
It's awful. One of the reasons this is difficult for me to talk about is because my dad died suddenly and horrifically to Covid in late 2020 because our for-profit hospitals refused to prepare for a pandemic while our executive administration pretended nothing was wrong. My dad died two weeks before vaccines began rolling out and when my mom and I had to make the choice to end his care we were only allowed to see him for 2 minutes at a time, separately. My husband was denied entry altogether because he wasn't "immediate" family.
Personally, I have chronic health issues that regularly get ignored. I have a mandatory medication (of several) that has no generic and costs over 300$ for a 30-day supply and my pharmacy (I'm not allowed to change) sometimes runs out and I gap for weeks at a time, sending my brain function into the toilet.
If you're American please help by keeping healthcare reform a primary voting issue in both Federal and State/Local elections. We need officials who see what this is doing to us, not more 1%ers who will never have to worry about what to do with a $25k hospital bill (one of Dragoneer's latest) or even a $250k one (my dad's bill for daring to die in ICU). I know it's a rough ask but for the financially stable, consider legal recourse for rights violations (some lawyers work pro bono for health stuff, the point is to always explore avenues to push back). We can't go on like this.
If you're not American, please help us by raising awareness in your own areas. Most of us look to more socialized countries like Canada and the EU for examples of how to improve our current system and of course, we know things aren't perfect but it's an embarrassment and a tragedy that Americans can't access the quality of care our system should VERY MUCH be able to provide.
Anyway.
This was really long-winded but it hurts a lot to know that there are so many cases like Dragoneer, like my dad. People with serious or even chronic issues can't get the smallest scrap of compassion in this system that reduces us to inconvenient numbers that our for-profit system can squeeze pocket change out of while murdering us.
I'll post links if a fundraiser goes up for Dragoneer's family to help cover the funds but until then, thanks for reading my long and winding thoughts. It's very hard to tame the emotion with this particular issue.

Nail Care Routine
Introduction to Nail Care
Nail care is an often-overlooked aspect of personal grooming that plays a crucial role in maintaining overall health and appearance. Proper nail care not only enhances the aesthetics of your hands and feet but also prevents various nail-related issues. Establishing a comprehensive nail care routine can significantly improve the health and strength of your nails, ensuring they remain resilient and visually appealing.
Importance of Regular Nail Maintenance
Regular nail maintenance is essential to prevent common issues such as hangnails, fungal infections, and breakage. A consistent nail care routine can keep your nails clean, strong, and free from infections, ultimately reflecting your overall health. Neglecting nail care can lead to painful conditions that may require medical attention and can impact your daily activities.
Essential Tools for Nail Care
Basic Tools
The foundation of any effective nail care routine lies in the tools you use. Basic tools include nail clippers, a nail file, a buffer, and a cuticle pusher. These tools are essential for maintaining the shape, length, and smoothness of your nails.
Specialized Tools
For those looking to elevate their nail care routine, specialized tools such as electric nail files, cuticle nippers, and nail brushes can be incorporated. These tools provide a more precise and professional-level of care, allowing you to address specific nail concerns more effectively.
Daily Nail Care Routine
Cleansing
Cleansing your nails daily is fundamental to maintaining hygiene. Use a gentle nail brush to remove dirt and debris from under your nails, followed by a thorough wash with mild soap and warm water. This step ensures that your nails remain clean and free from bacteria.
Moisturizing
Moisturizing is crucial to prevent dryness and brittleness. Apply a nourishing hand cream or cuticle oil to your nails and cuticles daily. This helps to keep them hydrated and supple, reducing the likelihood of cracks and splits.
Weekly Nail Care Routine
Trimming
Weekly trimming helps maintain the desired length and shape of your nails. Use high-quality nail clippers to trim your nails straight across, avoiding rounded edges to prevent ingrown nails.
Filing
After trimming, file your nails to smooth any rough edges. Use a fine-grit nail file and file in one direction to avoid weakening the nail. Proper filing helps to maintain the shape and prevent snags.
Monthly Nail Care Routine
Deep Conditioning
Once a month, treat your nails to a deep conditioning treatment. Soak your nails in warm oil or a moisturizing solution for about 10-15 minutes. This intensive hydration helps to strengthen your nails and promote healthy growth.
Cuticle Care
Cuticle care is vital for nail health. Gently push back your cuticles using a cuticle pusher after soaking your nails. Avoid cutting the cuticles as this can lead to infections.
Proper Techniques for Nail Trimming
When trimming your nails, it is essential to use proper techniques to avoid damage. Cut your nails when they are dry to prevent splitting, and trim them straight across to reduce the risk of ingrown nails. Always use sharp, clean nail clippers for the best results.

The Art of Filing Nails
Choosing the Right File
Selecting the appropriate nail file is crucial. Glass or crystal files are gentle on nails and provide a smooth finish, while metal files can be harsh and cause splitting.
Filing Techniques
File your nails in one direction using gentle strokes to avoid fraying. Start from the side of the nail and move towards the center, repeating on the opposite side. This technique helps to maintain the integrity of the nail.
Moisturizing and Hydration
Best Moisturizers
Choose moisturizers that contain ingredients like shea butter, jojoba oil, and vitamin E. These ingredients provide deep hydration and nourish the nails and cuticles.
Hydrating Techniques
In addition to daily moisturizing, incorporate overnight treatments such as applying a thick layer of hand cream and wearing cotton gloves. This allows the moisturizer to penetrate deeply, providing intensive hydration.
Addressing Common Nail Problems
Brittle Nails
Brittle nails can be a sign of dehydration or nutritional deficiencies. Regular moisturizing and incorporating biotin-rich foods into your diet can help strengthen brittle nails.
Nail Fungus
Nail fungus is a common issue that can be addressed with antifungal treatments. Keeping your nails dry and clean is crucial in preventing fungal infections.
Discoloration
Discoloration of nails can be caused by various factors, including nail polish, smoking, or underlying health conditions. Regular cleansing and the use of a nail whitener can help reduce discoloration.
Importance of a Balanced Diet for Healthy Nails
A balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals is essential for healthy nails. Incorporate foods high in biotin, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids to promote nail strength and growth. Adequate hydration also plays a significant role in maintaining nail health.
Natural Remedies for Nail Care
Home Remedies
Home remedies such as soaking your nails in a mixture of lemon juice and olive oil can help to strengthen and brighten them. Additionally, applying a mixture of honey and milk can provide hydration and nourishment.
Essential Oils
Essential oils like tea tree oil and lavender oil have antifungal and antibacterial properties that can help maintain nail health. Dilute these oils with a carrier oil and apply them to your nails and cuticles regularly.
Maintaining a regular nail care routine is essential for healthy, strong, and beautiful nails. By incorporating these practices into your daily, weekly, and monthly regimen, you can ensure that your nails remain in optimal condition. Prioritize your nail health, and enjoy the benefits of well-cared-for nails.

Carbon Pipe Fittings : Astm A234 WPB Pipe Fittings Manufacturers
Introduction:
ASTM A234 WPB pipe fittings, also known as carbon steel pipe fittings, have largely become standard parts in many industries. The fitting elements will be used to adapt straight pipe or tubing sections, to maintain different size or shape, and to control the rate of flow of liquids.
Always resistant to strength and versatile, ASTM A234 WPB fittings play a critical role in industries dealing with oil, gas, petrochemicals, and power generation.
What are ASTM A234 WPB Pipe Fittings?
They are used to connect pipes in shapes such as elbows, tees, reducers, and caps. The prime factors that make the use of these fittings highly prevalent are their excellent mechanical properties, like high tensile strength and resistance to corrosion.
