It's funny how utterly devoid of any drama Dr. Ratio's life seems to be so far. Other characters go through tragedies and hardships. Every new character's backstory is more tragic than the last one.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ratio's biggest failure in life is that Sempai Nous didn't notice him. The biggest threat to his life? That one time when he drank too much coffee and felt a bit unwell afterwards. His nightmares? Not being intellectually stimulated enough by some new books he received.

Can we talk about how we definitely don’t give the Magnus Chase books enough credit? Like these books are such a beautiful depiction of coming to terms with grief and finding purpose in new relationships. Magnus’ struggle to accept his mother’s death and his guilt over it culminating in a beautiful moment where he feels her love and presence with and for him in his battle with Surt. The horrific despair he feels whenever someone around him is hurt, literally moving him to tears every time, even when it’s Gunilla, someone who has been actively hunting him. The line about how they are all empty cups, but that they can share each other’s burdens instead of filling themselves with pain. Just the beautiful bonds these characters who have each been isolated in their own way have formed with each other. How each of these characters have every right to be bitter and spiteful as a result of the tragedy in their lives, but choose love and each other at every turn.

Ghosts have many different subspecies, each with different traits and skills. Danny is half ghost, but if you wanted to be precise, he is half banshee/siren. Ever since his death, Danny has had a natural talent for singing and finds great enjoyment from it. Sometimes he just can't help himself and needs to belt out a tune to someone.

After high school, Danny decides to pursue a career in music. It let's him sing to his cores content without getting odd looks and puts some cash in his pocket so honestly there isn't really a downside. In order to get some extra practice in and gain more exposure, he has a youtube series where he walks around and asks people if he can sing for them.

Its while making one of these that Danny comes across DC character of your choosing and gets an urge to sing so overpowering that they barely have time to say yes before Danny is singing the most beautiful, powerful performance he ever has in his (un)life.

By the time the song is over, DC character is extremely flustered.

Your performances as Faulkner are truly amazing. I've loved listening to his arc, and as a tragedy enjoyer, we love to see one of our favourite characters falling into a ruin of his own making 🙏 You have the RANGE. From naive celebrant to dogged fanatic to scheming hierophant to tattered king in a palace of mold. It's sooo impressive how you can capture the entire journey!

seen a couple people running to that "is it bad writing or do you not understand genre" post in regards to the ofmd upset. and let me remind people that this show was marketed as a romantic comedy, ESPECIALLY this season!

In that regard, I found an article/blog post that directly addresses the question "can you have character death in a romantic comedy?" And it really hits the nail on the head.

Even if you were to make the argument "well it's a dark comedy!" or "its a pirate show!" there's still a balance that needs to be met if you don't want to alienate your audience.

People are going to argue that the death was earned because they spent the entire season building up his character and "completing his arc". Well, I'll argue that they DIDN'T complete his arc. In fact they took about twelve steps back in his death scene by seemingly ret conning his progress and having him center Ed's feelings on his literal deathbed. So it really feels a lot like fridging, because that's exactly what it was. Izzy's death was for Ed's arc, not his own. And they spent so much time focusing on Izzy all season, focusing on his growth and giving him such a specific arc about queerness and recovery, that yeah, his death feels like a slap to the face and not a tragic story beat that makes the story all the richer.
