Why are so few people talking (from what I've seen) about Penguins of Madagascar having a crossover with Big Time Rush??
Why am I talking about this?? I watched funny moments with characters from the series...

As someone who loves to explore gender through fiction, I suddenly thought about Due South and what sort of layers of complexity would be added if the three main leads were (perceived as) women.
Would Fraser be referred to as 'woman-mountie' and her gender constantly brought up instead of her skills? Would Fraser use her fake smile more because she was taught it was more disarming? Would her stoicism seem colder? How would men pursue her? Would the show treat her uncomfortableness towards male love interests with the same 'humour' as when Fraser as a man runs from female interest? How would her lack of gender (as I read Fraser as agender this would not change if she was afab) be expressed?
Would RayV be more determined to prove she's a 'good cop' because she's in a male dominated field? Would the men be cruel to her because she's not seen as 'conventionally attractive'? How did her gender affect her relationship with her abusive father? Does she have more of a complex relationship with her whole family for being the eldest daughter?
Would RayK's temper, instead of being seen as something to be weary of, be dismissed as her being 'overly emotional'? Would her having difficulties dealing with her divorce be framed as 'crazy ex-wife'? Why are you so obsessed with going back to a man named Stanley Kowalski? Would it make her more sympathetic and make her ex-husband more of a villain? Would she be read as ditsy because of her not being able to find the right words?

What kind of S/O do you think Petey would have/need?
OH THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS ASK????? i totally don't talk nearly enough about pete for how much i love him
okay first of all we need to make a distinction between what he might think he wants and what he really needs.
see, thing is, pete is extremely intelligent, psychologically and emotionally. he's terribly good at penetrating into other people's both thought and emotional processes. therefore, the people who attract him are challenging people in this way- but also, people who are confident and step up despite all the odds.
he totally had a crush for gary, once. because he's as intelligent as gary (except that gary isn't emotionally intelligent; he has a lot of trouble understanding emotional processes, despite how good he is at intercepting and manipulating people's thought processes), but gary has the initiative and isn't afraid to use it againts other people. they were a good duo, in this sense, because pete had the exact emotional blindspot that gary was missing - at least, they would've been good if gary didn't bully him mercilessly. mostly he knew he could afford it because. pete didn't have anyone else.
and then jimmy came; i think jimmy being kind of, uh. (EDIT) emotionally dumb. was kind of a turn off, but he was totally thoughtless, whereas pete would have a hundred worries jimmy would have zero. he probably did crush on him a bit but. as i anticipated, he's not really challenging to understand. also i think, like gary, jimmy is a bit... gratuitously mean? like, it's not like pete is an angel, but mostly he bites harder when he's bitten first.
the thing is that the s/o i think pete would need is someone who is as emotionally intelligent like him, someone who hasn't a hard time understanding that. maybe you should avoid saying certain things to certain people. like to use previous examples; yes, jimmy says mean things to pete out of the blue, but he does do this with everyone. meanwhile, with pete you kind of need to understand that some things just. hurt him and you should avoid saying them.
like yes to answer your question i think emotional intelligent is the quick fundamental requisite. and also someone patient, bc i totally think (even tho this might be me projecting LMAO) that from time to time he has a hard time accepting that. maybe someone does love him for real and is not just pushing him around. but the idea is so ingrained in his brain that he'd need quite some work to get rid of it, you might say.

Thinking about mash au Grazi, barely in her 20s, unofficial guardian of her three younger siblings, adamantly anti war. But then her best friend and her twin brother are drafted and she has to follow them, she has to.
Only the boys are sent to the front lines as soldiers and Grazi enlists as a nurse and they're sent to three different units, nowhere near each other. So she spends half her time sewing up patients and worried her boys are being sewed up just like this at some aid station that she wont know about for weeks until they can send a letter her way.

4x02 Easy Money // 3x01 Burning Down the House // 3x02 Eclipse | Rift
Something that always strikes me about Ray's moment of reconciliation with his father (in a show that might as well be subtitled Fathers Kinda Suck Huh???????) is the way this scene in particular is shot.
They focus especially on Ray's bracelet as he extends his hand:
Tumblr media
Which isn't the only time they've focused on Ray's bracelet during Important Character Building. There's of course, his intro in Burning Down the House,
Tumblr media
The close-up on the similarity with Marcus Ellory's bracelet in Eclipse,
Tumblr media
And a bunch of other moments over seasons 3 and 4 that basically use the bracelet as a quick visual stand-in for "Ray Kowalski's a little bit different."
Tumblr media
It’s something Ray Vecchio would never wear; hell, it's something most cops would never wear. It's a little bit, as Ray Kowalski would say, queer.
And so is Ray Kowalski.
The decision to focus on this bracelet during the exact moment he offers his hand to Damian as a peace offering is therefore, to me, worth considering. I personally read this as an indicator that part of the reason for Ray's rift with his father was his queerness.
And the first thing Damian says to Ray after they shake hands?
Tumblr media
He compliments Ray’s experimental hair! He mentions another “queer” element of Ray’s physical appearance—one his father has likely given him a lot of grief for—and accepts it. Metaphor!!
It is, of course, understandable that Damian would have wanted better for his son than to be a cop, and this isn't to say that there isn't a world where that might have been enough to cause Damian to lose meaningful touch with his son for a decade. It certainly made sense for Ray Vecchio's father, who was likely involved with low-level mob business. But it does seem pretty extreme for Damian!
There's also the beautiful scene where Ray tells Fraser about his family in the precinct mess. At the very end, it really does look like he has something else he wants to say... but then Huey interrupts.
Now I am, of course, aware that Ray was dating or engaged to Stella at the time he graduated Academy. So what could his queerness possibly have to do with anything?
Well, as much as many of us wish it would, your queerness does not disappear when you enter a straight-passing relationship. I've even seen interesting ruminations in fic that some of the early hardship in Ray and Stella's relationship—remember, they broke up for a while during her college tenure—might have been due to the fact that Ray was interested in (or even caught) experimenting with men.
A personal anecdote, if you'll indulge me: I was in my mid-twenties, four years into a relationship with a man I thought I was going to marry, and tormented constantly by the idea that I was, probably, queer. I had no way of finding out while I was in a committed monogamous relationship. When I told my own mother that I thought I was bisexual, she told me it was all right—but also to never, ever tell my father. Even though I was in a relationship with a man, the knowledge of my queerness would have been enough to potentially cause a rift between my father and I that I don't know if we ever could have repaired. [editor's note: i'm a lesbian now and my dad and I have a stellar relationship ftr but i did have to marry a whole man first so] [editor's note: i am also the editor]
Ray gets caught with a man while Stella is in college? Or Stella knows and tells Ray's mother while they're drunk on wine one night? Or Ray's parents find a magazine... or a photo... or a stamp from the wrong club... anything. There's a million reasons why Ray's queerness could and may have come up even while he was with Stella, even while he was monogamous. Because he was still queer.
I know there's a certain element of "sometimes the curtains are just blue, dude, chill” to all of my meta, but when it comes to this show in particular I very much operate in my analyses from a place of "everything is intentional." Small details really do matter; the way scenes are shot matter, the words that are used matter, there's intentionality behind it all. We can't know or understand authorial intent, of course, but we can read our own interpretation of that intent into it. (The author is dead but Paul Gross thought Callum Keith Rennie was hot, so)
This is, after all, another episode directed by George Bloomfield, who also did Burning Down the House and is responsible for that "love at first sight" moment in Say Amen, so the direction here is in the hands of someone who is clearly in lock-step with Gross around the inclusion of queerness in the latter seasons of the show.
This moment is interesting to me in particular when considering intent because I actually would prefer to see Ray and Damian's faces in this moment! I want to know what Damian is thinking, or if he frowns. I want to know if Ray looks nervous or concerned. We don't see that at all.
Instead of seeing them over the GTO, we get the close-up on the hands and the bracelet over the rebuilt engine.
Tumblr media
Rebuilding!! They're doing it.
And that makes my little queer heart pretty happy.

Music headcannons ✨
Skipper
Tumblr media
Secretly loves CC Catch and Modern Talking but won’t admit to it
Pretty cannon that he likes rock and classic rock, so he’d defo like Judas Priest, Foreigner and Derek and the Dominoes - the song Layla fits his vibe
Bro definitely listens to Rammstein
He’d be more into 70s than anything else but would also like 80s and 60s, so he’d love Fleetwood Mac
He has a cowboy obsession so he probably likes western and cowboy music lmao
Would probably dislike 90s
Probably also has a more limited music taste than the others
Canonically good at guitar so I hc him and Kowalski would build an electric one and he’d jam out when he’s alone
Kowalski
Tumblr media
Absolutely ABBA there is no debating.
He gives me 70s vibes and would probably listen to some classic rock but Thin Lizzy and Bee Gees would defo be his vibe
Blondie fan
Adam and the Ants. No question.
Bro plays banjo ofc he listens to country
Probably also listens to western and cowboy music like Skipper
Swiftie.
Occasional 90s
Spam listens to Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely (bc Doris)
When he’s in the lab he’ll listen to classical music bc it doesn’t have lyrics to distract him
Rico
Tumblr media
Full on death metal, black metal and thrash metal like Slayer
But also classical music like Vivaldi or Beethoven (as a rocker myself in a family of rockers it’s safe to say that if they like heavy metal, they also probably like classical music)
Shitty punk rock enjoyer - credit to @iamhowlingmad for mentioning it
Gives me hip hop and rap vibes, he’d love Will Smith
Spam listens to Running in the 90s and Gas Gas Gas when driving
I’d say sometimes even dubstep? Idk it’s energetic like him
Bro also definitely listens to Rammstein
But probably listens to lullabies to fall asleep
He probably occasionally plays a little guitar but wouldn’t make a habit out of it like the others
Most varied music taste out of them all
Private
Tumblr media
He’s the youngest so definitely 2000s and 2010s, since the show is from that era and he’d love modern pop
Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Big Time Rush and probably One Direction
Probably also a Swiftie
He’d also like 70s and 80s disco but probably not as much as the others
He would probably listen to some 90s like Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys
I feel like he’d love to listen to soundtracks, especially Zelda stuff since it’s relatively calm and very vibey
Canonically loves Copacabana
Marlene
Tumblr media
Absolute 80s fanatic
CC Catch would probably be her favourite, Strangers By Night gives me Marlene vibes
Secretary slow dances to Kiss From a Rose by herself
Probably listens to Rihanna and Shakira
Also pretty cannon that she likes rock from like that one episode where she’s pretending to be a rockstar? She would totally be a metal head and love stuff like Motörhead, Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden
Give her an electric guitar and she could probably play Master of Puppets.
Would probably fangirl over CC Catch and rock bands with Skipper
Canonically loves Spanish Guitar so play her some Flamenco and she’d melt
Julien
Tumblr media
90s there is no questioning it.
Ofc I Like to Move It Move It is his favourite
Definitely listens to 90s and 2000s club hits to dance party to all night
Britney Spears lover
Backstreet Boys fanatic.
Probably screams I Want it That Way in Maurice’s ear all day
🎶TeLL mE wHaY🎶
Skipper would get sick of all the 90s music so he’d probably discretely give him a Modern Talking mixtape for his boom box, and he’d love them
Defo also likes 80s disco and loves Boney M
Thinks he’s the Just Dance king but the penguins secretly practice every Friday night and can do Rasputin perfectly

OK SO..
I recently saw a crossover AU with Gravity Falls and TPOM and I wanted to propose my own take on it? I don’t have any art for it just yet, but I do have a rough idea:
After his base gets destroyed by the penguins and his own sister, Dr. Blowhole decides to set his new base elsewhere. Far away from the penguins. To a place they’d never suspect.
And what better place than Gravity Falls, Oregon?
(Hey, if Mermando was able to find his way back to the sea from there, no use in arguing Blowhole couldn’t find his way in)
Coincidentally, the penguins, the lemurs, and Marlene end up getting transferred over there, as a brand new zoo was built in the town. Gravity Falls has grown as a town since the canon series of events, yet manages to retain its charm.
The town’s weirdness sets Skipper’s paranoia to the max, however Kowalski finds this place to be a research haven, much like Ford once did.
The OG GF cast has aged significantly here. The Mystery Twins are now adults, living with their Grunkles by choice given their tough family environment back in California. Dipper works as an assistant to his Grunkle Ford, while Mabel has gotten herself a job as the new zookeeper at the Gravity Falls Zoo. She absolutely adores the animals there, especially the penguins.
Skipper finds her to be a bit much, but at least her treatment of them is better than Alice’s was. Still doesn’t trust her.
Private thinks she’s a delight to have around. Although is confused as to why she hates unicorns so much.
Kowalski has no opinion on her. He’s much more interested in learning about Ford and Dipper.
And Rico? Well…let’s just say there’s conflict. And not the type of conflict you’d think. Maybe finally understanding how Private fell for Shauna…

God, even just this 5-second out of context clip gets me emotional. The scene is just so beautiful. There's the swelling of the music, Skipper finally giving Private the respect he deserves, and all of them having a mutual understanding that they have no idea what consequences Private's decision could bring.

PETEY LORE!!!!!!!!! according to some of gary’s cut dialogue, pete was born out of wedlock and implied to have separated parents. they could also still be together and just umarried, or have since gotten married after he was born, but gary implies he’s sensitive about it so it’s more likely that they are not together and possibly not on good terms.
assuming this lore hasn’t been completely nullified since its removal and could still reasonably be considered canon, it adds a little more context to his chronic loneliness issues and validation seeking, especially when considering he’s also an only child. if he only ever lived with one parent at a time, didn’t have any other siblings or friends, and was thrown into boarding school as soon as possible, it’s reasonable to assume he didn’t get a lot of attention in early childhood which now manifests as insecurity, clinginess, and fear of rejection/loneliness. peter kowalski i know what you are (mentally ill)

pete kowalski x fem reader pretty pleaseee
he’s so shy when it comes to pda, or just affection in general. this is especially true during the first bit of the relationship.
knows everything there is to know about feminine products, whether it be hair products, or period pads and pretty much anything under the sun.
bro is a professional cook, loves to cook for you. literally gordon ramsey.
his voice becomes really high pitched whenever he gets nervous, its honestly really funny.
be careful with him please. he’s so insecure because of not only how he grew up, but how most people at school treat him. not bullied, but he gets manipulated, so he’s going to feel pretty insecure.
hates anyone touching his hair. even you.

Goretober Day 1. - Cannibalism
Yuki Tsunoda x reader
Warnings/Tags: implied cannibalism, severed head
A/N: Starting off slow, Enjoy! 💞
Goretober list request
⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚💀˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆
You've been meeting a cute guy for a while now, his name was Yuki Tsunoda, an owner of a restaurant you really liked. He was a little smaller than you, but well build and athletic nonetheless.
You loved spending time with each other, especially when he cooked for you, showing off his skills. And that day was no different.
As you always met at his place, this time you invited him over to yours. It's not like he hasn’t been there ever, he was a couple of times, but just for a few minutes when you had to pick something up.
Of course while waiting for you, he has managed to meet your nice but nosey neighbour, miss Kowalski. An older lady with a garden full of flowers. She always greeted Yuki whenever she saw his car arrive.
Although, this time was different. She didn’t run out of her house when the man parked his car in front of your place, ready to say hello and ask about his day. Her absence felt weird, but Yuki shrug it off thinking she was asleep already, it was late after all.
He walked inside, the smell of food hitting his nostril immediately.
“Hi! What you cooking? “
Yuki asked, walking further in and taking a seat by the kitchen island behind you.
“Some paella with beef, I hope you'll like it! “
Answering enthusiastically you grabbed two plates full of the dish and placed them on the dinning table.
“Will you be so nice? “
You handed him a bottle of wine and a corkscrew, hoping he would unscrew it. The man swiftly did it, getting off the island stool and pouring the dark liquid to the glasses standing on the table.
“It looks delicious”
He praised your work, hugging your side and planting a soft kiss to your neck. A soft blush appeared on your face as you set the bottle away.
“Count one’s chickens before they hatch! “
You giggled sitting down, Yuki following shortly after.
“Bon appetite! “
You looked as the man took a spoonful of the paella and awaited his reaction.
“Aaaand? “
“It's really good honey, just... The beef, it tastes... A little weird. What spices did you add? “
The bright smile that previously graced your face quickly changed into a soft grimace.
“Every...”
“Y/N”
Yuki chuckled, but it really tasted off. He couldn’t quite pin point what was unusual about it, but he decided not to dwell on it to not make you sad.
“Anyway, it's still really good. Don’t worry”
He took another spoon, a smile coming back to your face before you joined him.
Your plates were quickly clean and you moved to the couch. With stomach full, a warm blanket and Yuki by your side, it didn’t take you long to fall asleep, and soon the man could hear your faint snoring into his chest.
He placed a kiss to your head then gently picked you up and carried you to your bedroom. While you soundly slept, he decided to clean the kitchen as a thank you for the dinner. He cleaned the dishes and placed them in the cupboards, made sure the counter was shining, and put the left overs in the fridge. At least he tried.
When Yuki opened the refrigerator, he was met with a pale head of miss Kowalski on a plate. He couldn’t believe it. Quickly closing the fridge and putting the food away as not to drop it, he covered his mouth in shock.
Did you kill your neighbour???
DID YOU SERVE HIM YOUR NEIGHBOUR???
That would explain why the meat tasted so weird...
He wanted to vomit at the only thought.
Taking another look, just to make sure, he felt a cold hand on his shoulder.
“I'm sorry, I had no time to put it in the basement”
You said cutely, his absence and the refrigerator door slam waking you up. Excusing him you took the head, then disappeared in the basement as if nothing.
He was dating a cannibal...

considering the state of bullworth (the city), what do you think the state of the country or world is like? do you think bullworth has a unique culture, or is it almost representative of the society outside its perimeters?
i think about what hal esposito said a lot when he and lucky were finding things to watch on the tv. "what? war footage and natural disasters doesn't do it for you?"
considering it is highly likely that the world's condition is very chaotic, how might this affect bullworth and its residents?
hello there!!! ah yes, geography. my beloathed
that's an interesting question of course, yes!! my instinctive thought when first reading this ask was what i always asumed, ie: the news hal and lucky were referring about weren't local but, yknow, american general news. also bc paris from the carnival says something very similar in front of her tv, and we know that the carnival travels, so i wouldn't think of something too different.
however!! let's go by steps there, because thinking about it that's something i never properly expanded upon.
so, first of all: canonically speaking, bullworth is in new england. now, as a non-usamerican, i have very little knowledge of anything about hyperspecific cultures in america, maybe just some west coast zones or south and some midwest.
however!! the fact that there are so many kids of italian certain descent and some other kids with non anglophone last names (kowalski, brakus, luna, karamazov, etc) implies that it is an important destination for migrations. this makes me think of earlly 1900s new york, which would certainly be coherent.
now, a long time ago i found the certain information that bullowrth was supposed to be in new hampshire. however, since i have learned that "trust me bro" is never a good source, i went back to dig some deeper into the whole thing: it still seems to be more or less agreed upon that the state is new hampshire, also because someone noted a striking resemblance of bullworth with the phillips exeter academy. of course maybe it wasn't as explicit and direct as this user puts it, but it is suggestive enough that it would be nice to go with it.
now, first about the culture: we mentioned bullworth being basically a melting pot. this means that it is not only unique, but in fact very diverse, also depending on the zone. for example, i think in new coventry you'll find an especially colorful culture, with people coming from different places and different cultures, everyone holding onto their own but also interacting with their neighbor. you'll find people giving each other giving their best wishes to their neighbor for a festivity they don't even celebrate but know the other does. i mean, maybe you'll have some catholic complaining about the shop being closed just that day, but cue to the stereotypical southern italian wife smacking him behind his head and telling her good friend is home with their family and he mustn't be an annoying jerk (not in so many words, of course).
it is probably quieter the more you get closer to the vale. maybe in town there will be the occasional decoration outside of the house or in a shop, but overall… i'd say that the fundamental sentiment in bullworth is, exactly as the school crest says, canis canem edit. mind your own business and you'll live a hundred years, like an old saying goes. keep a good distance, so they don't hurt you and you don't hurt them.
and in fact, the vale is where this hyperindividualism gets ornated with the hypocrisy of the Good People, some facade to keep so that not only no conflict is created, but any chance and risk of it is perfectly concealed. you have the middle class-bourgeois, christian family who greet their neighbors with a smile and then speculate on all their disgraces as soon as the front door closes. and everything that happens in the family stays in the family, dirty laundry is washed at home.
yeah, overall i'd say. the whole point of bullworth culture is self-sufficiency, it's doing the best of what you have and care thoroughly and not let anyone else touch what's yours.
now, the natural condition of the territory: established that we are on the new hampshire coast, i have tried to dig a bit. i will bring up again something i mentioned earlier: i immediately assumed it was us or global news, but, while it is unfortunately enough to desensitize the general public to military violence, natural forces can be… a bit different.
i will tell a small anecdote about me. i grew up in an extremely seismic area, and by that i mean that we would experience at least a couple waves every some weeks, not strong enough to cause damage but enough to be perceived and do small stuff like making small objects fall off or ceiling lamps shake. and, y'know, it has always been perfectly normal for me, it has happened while i was in class and the worst thing was that i smudged a line on the essay i was writing. but then i moved away for college, and, when in geography we started talking about earthquakes, my professor admitted being scared shitless of seismic waves. my friends got the news of some waves in my native area and asked me how my family was; my mom was like “what do you mean four? i only felt three”
what was that to say? well. in my experience, the general masses are much more moved by natural disasters than by wars. so, in some way, the idea that hal and lucky were at most annoyed by the repetitiveness of the news makes me think that they have some experience with it. earthquakes probably aren't the ones, since, well. plate tectonics. which i will not explain here mostly because i have already passed that exam and i want nothing to do with it ever again LMAO. but anyway the east coast is a very stable area of the earth, so no earthquakes nor volcanoes. and, since it is located tightly in a small gulf, i think sea storms and tidal waves are out of the question too.
however! apparently, tornadoes are not too infrequent in the area, nor, i guess, storms and other similar climate events. as i mentioned before: what happens there is that you get kind of desensitized there; the thought of anything horrible happening isn't there, or, if it is, it barely hits with its full force. “but what if it is stronger next time?” we'll all just die, at least i won't have to worry about rent anymore, maybe my boss will finally kick the bucket too, ha-ha. what do you mean someone died in the next city? well, you know, it can happen.
so yeah, when you ask how it affects the people of bullworth- it probably just amplifies whatever nihilism is already there, y'know. see constantinos, who's most probably clinically depressed, or lefty's “life sucks and then you die”, which is disturbing, especially coming from a kid his age.
i guess it's not the only factor, but it does contribute to this feeling of bullworth just being some lost land, forsaken by god himself left to its own devices. it's like the entirety of the population is... in survival mode, as i tend to say; you just pull through, which should be the bare minimum, but there we are. think of yourself first, then your neighbor, but actually fuck your country, since it has never done a thing for me.

one of the few good faith questions about s1 gender roles is why louis is only paralleled with white women. why does the show make him iolanta, melisande, nora helmer, etc and not claire kendry or janie crawford, characters who also appear in literature from the show's time period. why is he reading flaubert, colette, edward carpenter and not claude mckay or nella larsen who actually writes a lot about interractial relationships. on one hand the showrunner is white and maybe those are the texts he feels most comfortable with, but there are more than a few black creatives working on the show who are contributing in significant ways.
first of all, characters like iolanta, stella kowalski and nora helmer do not need to be white. they are white in their original forms because the writers were white and sometimes based them on real people. tenessee williams always wanted to have streetcar performed by diverse casts even though he based the characters partly on people in his own family. many productions now have non-white actresses in these roles (assad zaman was in one of these productions of a doll's house). also we can safely say lestat assigns melisande to louis because that's the kind of shit he's into (french opera based on a belgian story) and he's not really well read.
beyond that though, to me the reason louis is paralleled with white women is because he's married to a white man in 1910 louisiana where not only was interracial marriage illegal but homosexual relations and even interractial cohabitation were banned. but because of lestat's power, money and their vampire powers, these roles don't really apply to them. people who were in interracial or homosexual relationships in the 1910s had very different struggles and conflicts from loustat, like most of them could barely step outside without worrying about their safety. they certainly wouldn't be parading around society together all the time while even the politicians and authorities know about their relationship. so how do you make sense of your marriage if its very existence is anachronistic?? who's writing about your experiences if your experience is such an outlier in your society literally due to supernatural forces? there's no shortage of black literature in this time period (which overlaps with the harlem renaissance!) but being married to a white man is quite fundamentally different to being married to a non-white man especially in early 20th century. a white man has complete control over his dominion which includes the home and the outside world. a non-white man may have control over his home but the minute he steps out the door he's at the mercy of white men, he could be killed for simply looking at someone the wrong way, which makes non-white men impossible to relate to lestat. and who was allowed to be married to white men in those days? white women.
and ultimately louis is nora because the conflict of needing to escape an overbearing husband was something allowed only to white women in literature/theater. the reason we find so many parallels between louis and white female characters like belle even now is because his role in this story is largely reserved for white women and this has clearly ruffled a lot of feathers because its unfamiliar. i'll be curious to see what the show does as time moves forward but for season 1 it's very clear to me why the show chose these specific intertextual references.
