#esp with the variations of their spelling
Note
op I read your steddie fic where post and specifically the part abt Steve being intelligent got my attention bc (and also youre so right abt the whole thing)
-what about the fics where Steve is visibly (?? idk englishs not my thing) autistic? Cause if you're neurodivergent and can actually follow his thought process along he's super smart (unconventionally smart my beloved) but for neurotypicals I'm told it makes him sound some variation of stupid/oblivious/dumb (when he's def not haha)
-what are your opinions about the fics where Steve is _pretending_ to be stupid? Like, plays into the jock bit, and makes people think he's slow to use it to his advantage? not necessarily in a "bad person" way (and especially if you can tell he's smart from the outside/his own pov)? >>>esp if he doesn't even realize he's doing it?
-how about Steve's concussions/neurodivergency affecting the more "conventionally smart" aspects of his brain? like, his memory is shit and he can't spell properly or he can't do complex math, but he knows everyone's expressions and holds a scary amount of talent in physical activities he's never done before type thing (insp after me who got complimented by the "hardass" coach after trying boxing simply because I watch and calculate and how that's easy for me to switch into my own movements)
-opinions on Steve "looking dumb" because he's simply...not American? Like, his English is plenty good but that's because he's been copying speech patterns for so long now, and the Harringtons are tied to some p important Italian families so he almost never speaks English there either, and I personally like the fics where he's frustrated simply because he can't understand (like the story about the Korean immigrant and the lovely teacher) and also the scene in modern family where Gloria says "I know what I meant to mean! do you know how smart I am in my own language?"
-thoughts on someone lifting their head up from nerd shit and realizing Steve's been making like many smart remarks that nobody listens to cause he doesn't know nerd lingo?
(also unrelated but trans!Steve MTF _or_ FTM is so important to me <3)
I've a whole "trope theory" about different types of intelligence groups tend to have, and simply put it goes
book smarts, street (survival) smarts, emotional smarts, social smarts
and how those mix and match to show through in characters that are disregarded as stupid and I personally believe Steve is very Socially _and_ emotionally smart but because he's arguably in line to be the most toxic masculine people by reputation (not personality but the past -both his and his dads- linger) people don't notice it.
I'd love to chat more both abt my theory and Steve in general <3
Hi anon, of course I want to talk about Steve's intelligence - because I am so so so tired of him being written off as the fool, and I am especially tired of people pretending like he is not the most emotionally intelligent person in the show other than potentially Will or Joyce. Also in advance, I totally go on a BUNCH of tirades and rants so I'm sorry if you lose the thread at all, I just have a lot of thoughts and they all FEEL important to me. So yeah, this is a long one.
-what about the fics where Steve is visibly (?? idk englishs not my thing) autistic? Cause if you're neurodivergent and can actually follow his thought process along he's super smart?
I haven't read many fics where Neurodivergent! Steve's divergence is specifically autism and personally I feel that other divergences fit him better such as OCD (see - his need to keep things tidy, instances of reduced impulse control, repetitive/ritualistic behaviors, hypervigilance, and agitation), ADHD (see - his need to be moving lots of pacing and bouncing, difficulty concentrating on the group discussions, impulsivity), Dyslexia/Dyscalculia (personal/popular headcanon), or something that would affect his audio processing (personal/unpopular headcanon; see- being unable to get past the music on the recording, difficulty following along with the group discussions, immediately losing track of the group in the Upside Down Wheeler's house when he thinks he hears Dustin)- but I definitely read him as someone whose brain works in a way that is non-typical which is something we ABSOLUTELY see in season 3 where he focuses in on the music and it seems like he literally can't focus on the Russian words until he knows what the music is.
But what it comes down to is that so many people read the fact that he didn't get into college (which is more indicative of a lack of testing skills than it is for actual intelligence) and his inability to follow along with group discussions about Upside Down stuff (which could point to issues with concentration or audio processing or just a lack of knowledge regarding the lingo being used) as a way to characterize him entirely as an idiot/fool. This of course isn't helped by the Duffers refusing to deepen his character beyond "he was bad but now he's good because now he's interacting with intelligent™ people". So to answer this question, I'm all for fics that explore Steve's intellect through a lens of "no he's not dumb, he just processes information in an atypical way".
-what are your opinions about the fics where Steve is _pretending_ to be stupid? Like, plays into the jock bit, and makes people think he's slow to use it to his advantage? not necessarily in a "bad person" way (and especially if you can tell he's smart from the outside/his own pov)?
I'm not 100% sure I'm interpreting this question correctly but I have some issues with fics where the character of interest is 'pretending' to be stupid so it entirely depends on what the motivation behind doing so is.
If the motivation is "I play dumb so that I can fit in better and not be bullied for being smart" I don't like it that much - I feel like in a lot of media, and American media especially, there is this perpetuation of Smart=Unpopular/Bullied/Unathletic and Dumb=Popular/Bully/Athletic and I don't like that because in my lived experience that really isn't the case - I have friends that were the Valedictorian's of their high schools by gpa that were also class president and soccer captian and genuinely good people and some of the meanest people I have ever met were stereotypical™ nerds. So if the motivation is that he pretends to be dumb specifically to fit in and not get bullied I don't really like it. HOWEVER, if the motivation is "I downplay my intelligence so that people underestimate me" that's different and I can get behind it to a degree - no one is perfect and Steve was not the best person at first so him having a little manipulation bit like this would make sense.
Also this leads into another thing I feel we don't talk about enough - Steve is a jock with a head for STRATEGY and you cannot tell me otherwise. The ability to strategize is something we like to take away from jocks all across media, but as a former athlete myself I can tell you that a LOT of thought goes into athletic strategy and it translates well to other aspects of life. We also see Steve make quick strategic decisions A LOT but we never mention them - some examples include when he leads the scoops troop through the crowded russian base w/o getting caught - some of this is simply poor writing/tracking and i will admit that but if we suspend our disbelief for a second it's Steve that looks at the set up takes in the information and says "Follow me, stay low and be quick" as they navigate that scene, we also see it in season two when him and Dustin get to the junkyard and he says "oh yeah this will do nicely" and then he proceeds to set the stage for catching Dart with a clearing to trap him, a reinforced fort for protection and surveillance and honestly the only reason this goes wrong is because there was more than one demodog. So yeah being good with strategy lends itself well to Steve using his intelligence as a manipulation for others to underestimate him. I personally would love for there to be a fic where one of the kids challenges Steve to a strategy game like chess or risk or something like that and for him to DECIMATE them because strategy is the thing he's good at.
-how about Steve's concussions/neurodivergency affecting the more "conventionally smart" aspects of his brain? like, his memory is shit and he can't spell properly or he can't do complex math, but he knows everyone's expressions and holds a scary amount of talent in physical activities he's never done before type thing
For one I would like to quickly put out there that Steve almost definitely got a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) from the Russian Torture - and probably PCS (Post Concussion Syndrome) from the fight with Billy (I would also like to quickly mention that these are different things with different causes and potential future outcomes/side effects, I feel like they get confused a lot in this fandom which is totally fine but just a reminder that a concussion comes specifically from your brain impacting your skull and how he receives his head injuries from Jonathan and the Russians would indicate to me that he probably didn't have a concussion those times but when he crashes the car in season three he could have easily gotten a whiplash concussion which is something we don't talk about but does actually happen a lot and it's less likely to get treated because people don't realize you can get a concussion w/o hitting your head. Also I am so sorry about this head trauma info dump, it's just a subject I have lots of experience with/knowledge about).
ANYWAY, yeah TBIs and PCS can really mess with your head and are often the cause of things like memory loss - as well as vision and hearing impairment. Also TBIs have been studied a lot in American Football players and sometimes they can even cause shifts in personality. (Also @peter-pantomime has some really good discussions and headcanons regarding Steve's head traumas so I highly suggest their content both here and on tiktok.)
And yes, Steve consistently proves to be extremely socially intelligent. You do not get to the top of the high school food chain by simply being attractive or athletic, you have to be capable of understanding and manipulating certain social interactions - walking into a room and knowing who to talk to and who to avoid, popularity is often just a matter of networking and part of the reason Steve loses his popularity is because he abandons the network he built himself up through and switches it out for a group of people much lower on the social ladder. We also can tell he's incredibly emotionally intelligent through his interactions with others - scenes that really show this are Steve cleaning up the theater sign and going to apologize to Jonathan (some might say this is just emotional maturity but i would like to point out that he was emotionally intelligent enough to realize that it was Jonathan that deserved the apology instead of just Nancy) (s1), when Will comes home and we see him empathize with the worry of Joyce & Jonathan (s2), when he can seemingly tell that something happened between Nancy and Jonathan but instead of lashing out he supports her (also s2), when Robin comes out to him and also technically rejects him but he just treats her like normal (s3), like… every scene with him and Max in S4, and also when he tells Eddie that he needs to stop being so hard on himself when he keeps talking about how much of a coward he is (also S4).
I have never seen this done before, but I absolutely adore this concept, if you (or anyone else) has some fic recs with this trope 👀👀👀 please share.
-thoughts on someone lifting their head up from nerd shit and realizing Steve's been making like many smart remarks that nobody listens to cause he doesn't know nerd lingo?
Yes do it, caveat: I think it needs to be Robin, Eddie, or Will - I think everyone else is a little too in their own way of realizing Steve has consistently made good points.
For Robin, as a Queer Platonic Stobin truther, I feel like if anyone were to really get into Steve's brain it would be her.
For Eddie, I feel it comes from that same vein that we see people pointing out that Eddie is the only person who directly answer Steve's questions, so it would make sense for him to be the one to say "wait hey - Steve is actually asking incredibly relevant questions that lead to a point he wants to make."
For Will, I simply think that he's the most emotionally intelligent member of the original Party and also the one with the fewest interactions with Steve so if he were to be with Steve in a time of crisis he wouldn't ignore Steve's thoughts the way that sometimes happens and notice something about how he processes information or something and be like "why did you guys all tell me he was dumb, he's making extremely relevant points right now?"
(also unrelated but trans!Steve MTF _or_ FTM is so important to me <3)
<3 Trans!Steve 🤝 GenderFluid!Steve solidarity
I love fics where Steve explores gender identity or at least his relationship with gender presentation, I'm partial to GenderFluid!Steve but regardless I love this.

Hello. Ahhh this may be an odd ask so apologies for that. And apologies for the gazillion spelling errors throughout.
But i wanted to tell u that u r probaly one of my favorite fic writers. Esp within the marvel fandom. Ive reread your fics more times than i can count and greatly enjoy your writing style. So with that in mind please know im trying to say this kindly.
You are my favorite fic writer . But Im also physically disabled. Your works frequently vist topics of disablity- physical and mental. And even more frequently do u use the word cripple in each work.
Cripple is a slur agaisnt physically disabled people. It always has been. I understand that its a word that has become very normalized and so phrases like “crippling anxiety” or “crippling debt” or other variations are incredibly common. But its still a slur. And if you are not physically disabled you shouldnt be using this word to describe anyone, but especailay physically disabled charcters.
One line that i think about quite frequently is in stygain where a charcter remarks that “this disablity had crippled the asgardian” and that is far from the only time something simillar is thought or said about loki, who is blind and physically disabled in this work.
Frankly Its hard for me to overstate how frequently cripple pops up in your other works too.
I understand that this probaly comes from somewhere of ignorarance or just not knowing. But its frustrating to watch such a skilled authour constantly use words that cause serious fucking harm to me and my community. Its very isolating.
i also know that you are (or were) in the process of rewriting stygan. A work prominantly featuring a disabled charcter. And i am asking you to please consider us and the words you chose as you write.
Again im sorry for the typos or if this is not as perfectly clear as u and i would like it to be. I recomend that you look around more on tumblr or elsewhere for disabled perspectives on this.
Heres one from a disabled authour:
https://cy-cyborg.tumblr.com/post/726304244629749760/cripple-is-a-slur/amp
Thank you for your time, and thank you for your works. I hope you have a good day or night.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. No, I was not aware that it was a slur. It was my understanding that it was a reclaimed slur, or that most people used the first definition of the word rather than the second, but I can definitely see why it would be extremely frustrating to see that repeated everywhere.
I imagine this is a bit like me and suicide jokes. I can't stand them. They feel insensitive to me, as someone who has attempted, to the point that I have to leave the room/chat when someone makes a joke about it. I'm working on emotional regulation for this - because it is impossible to escape haha - but I can see where you're coming from. Like the squishy Bad feeling. And I don't want to give anyone the squishy bad feeling. I feel really sad that I did.
Any use of cripple has been removed from all of my works - i've double-checked everything, but if you see any more feel free to point it out - and I will be more careful with my word choice in the future.
If you are referring specifically to the blodig skog - which is, haha, filled with internalized ableism - me and another disabled anon have had a long discussion about that work and we came to an understanding about the content in it. I'll give that to you as well, and maybe I'll leave a note at the beginning of the fic, because I know that one goes really, really hard on internalized ableism, which is a very sensitive subject for so many people.
I don't know if you're aware of this, but my left leg is. Not right. I caused some severe damage to it over the course of my eating disorder - damage which has slowly been getting better - but at the time I wrote it, I could barely walk, the pain was debilitating at times, and i was extremely miserable. That work is me Projecting Very Hard Onto Thor, which is why it's like that. As that was a deeply personal experience to me that I was sharing the feelings of, I'm reluctant to change the content inside of it, but I did change the language so everyone can be more comfortable.
Again, thanks for bringing this to my attention, I am sincerely sorry that my ignorance caused distress, pain, or whatever word we want to put here. I take full responsibility for this. I should have double-checked that my understanding was correct, but I do know now, and I promise I will be more careful because i want everyone to feel safe and respected when they read my work. It was never my intention to harm, but that doesn't mean I didn't.
Thank you for the resource, I'll make sure to look at that.
All the best! <3<3<3

also tossing together a quick list of resources for anyone who is going into volfoss and machine translating their way thru it:
obviously google translate and yandex are helpful but for different situations. gtranslate is more accurate a lot of the time, and the feature i find most helpful is the romanization under the kanji (esp helpful for names when you have NO official eng translation lol). yandex for ME helps a lot when i need a second opinion but more specifically need to define a specific part of a sentence. if you highlight text in yandex, you can go kanji by kanji for meaning. this is VERY helpful in situations where theres one word thats translating differently between the software. i primarily use the camera feature on the app for gtranslate, and then use the send to translation home button when i need to send kanji back and forth from my phone to pc (for example, if theres a name that appears a couple times, such as the former leader's, i just grab the kanji where his name is mentioned and then can put it in my doc super easy (i just use discord to send it back and forth). these are both very helpful BUT are not always super accurate which is why other resources help a lot.
i will NEVER not have a tab for a japanese -> english dictionary open. ive been using this one on archive.org since the start of the project and this one (which translates kanji specifically, so you can type english, the romanization, or the kanji in, it also shows the amount of strokes and it's just honestly really helpful if i need to look at another source) more recently. next up is a couple game specific resources that helped a LOT before i got used to the game names and being able to read them (guy that has about 80 hours in the game and has well. been very immersed in it. so its pretty much all memorized at this point).
this site has the best gallery with the english names. this is most helpful if you a. recognize the katakana or b. can kind of sound out the machine translations to compare them to the official ones (ie: google translates "shalvas" as "charbus" or a few different variations. stuff like that and being able to kind of grasp oh thats how that is supposed to sound helps a lot. there were a lot of stuff that i was tripped up on first playthrough because of how things are spelled (such as the place "thela" translates to "taylor" 99.99% of the time. it is a big pain)). next up, i would HIGHLY recommend this map from the person who made both the Japanese wiki and the backup wiki. that wiki has a BUNCH of resources in general but im just tossing all the stuff that i used super super often early on. the map has everything divided into regions (ie: rebels (towns. thats the proper term for them in game) that are under Caldealand, Asdenia, Ikuaipe, or are unaffiliated).
the map specifically is all in japanese but im tossing a little table i made at the end of the post with the proper translations so you can easily tell. obviously having the "proper" translations doesn't matter a ton if you're not well. making a 100% guide. but it is helpful to know what you're dealing with with places (a lot of them get mangled by translating them, like the more you play the more you'll be able to kind of recognize how they're spelled/mistranslated).

…………………………………………………………
Luang Phor Ophasi of Asom Bang Mot, living between BE 2441 to BE 2498 (CE 1898 to CE 1955)
Luang Phor Opasi was born, Chuan Maliphan in BE 2441 at Ban Trok Faifa, Pak Phanang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province with 7 siblings. At the age of 5, Chuan started his primary study and became a novice at the age of 13 at Wat Tai, Nakhon Si Thammarat, but Wat Tai did not teach Pali, so Chuan moved to Wat Tha Pho. His teacher noticed that Chuan was a smart student and advised him to go to big city to complete his Buddhism study. Then Chuan travelled to Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, Bangkok.
Chuan or Pra Maha Chuan liked to study and learned to speak several languages such as English, Tamil, Malay, Japanese, Pali and others. Pra Maha Chuan was a disciple of Luang Phor Kob of Wat Khao Sarika, Lopburi Province. Although they had never met each other personally, they communicated through telepathy during their meditations and thus Luang Phor Kob taught Pra Maha Chuan all his knowledge and the unique mediation through candle light (Grasin Fire). Luang Phor Kob himself had developed a technique of mediation that is based on the concentration on a flame. Luang Phor Kob had a great capacity to meditate without any interruption for as long as 40 days without any breaks.
When Pra Maha Chuan reached the highest level of study, His behavior started to change in a strange way, it was started from the technique of staring at the flame with continued attention for long period. He observed the precepts strictly, and in particular refused all the offerings given by any people. He tossed all gifts to the bonfire by saying that these objects were temptations which will make him unhappy and that the fire was the solution to this problem. On one occasion, Pra Maha Chuan failed to put out the fire at Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, this made the villagers very unhappy. They didn’t understand why Pra Maha Chuan behaved like this. This leads to many villagers thinking that he had simply become insane. Pra Maha Chuan was requested to leave Wat Bowonniwet Vihara but he was then invited to go to Asom Bang Mot, Bang Mot, Bangkok by a White-robe Master, Archan Bow.
While Pra Maha Chuan was staying at Asom Bang Mot, he called himself “Ophasi”, and people called him Luang Phor Ophasi ever since. Luang Phor Ophasi became very famous for his supernatural ability and fortune telling. Luang Phor Ophasi soon became that well- known that visitors came from far places to have Luang Phor Ophasi foresee their future or to ask Luang Phor Ophasi to perform a miracle for them, that made Luang Phor Ophasi too busy, and skipped his meditation practice. Luang Phor Ophasi then decided to give out amulets as gifts to those which would carry them and to give them to the visitors that asked him to predict their future, and ask them to leave Luang Phor Ophasi in peace. During these years Luang Phor Ophasi also made other amulets such as the Garuda amulet, portraits of himself and King Rama V. Nowadays these amulets are all in collectors’ hands. Many copies were made, and it is extremely difficult to get the authentic items made or blessed by Luang Phor Ophasi.
In BE 2498, Luang Phor Ophasi and two of his disciples were invited to a Buddhist gathering in India that was held on October 28. Luang Phor Ophasi told his two disciples to leave before him and that he would join them later. He also told them that he will not be on the spot before October 31 and to inform the organizers of his delay and the date of its arrival. On that day October 31, many of his disciples went to the Bangkok airport to wish him a happy voyage, but Luang Phor Ophasi did not show up. Unfortunately, a few days later the death of Luang Phor Opasi was announced. In the evening of Oct 30, Luang Phor Opasi himself told the monks at Asom Bang Mot that he was going to remain in meditation for several days and not to disturb him under any circumstance, then he went into the monk house. On October 31, BE 2498, an anxious monk decided to open Luang Phor Ophasi’ monk house and observe whether Luang Phor Ophasi were well or not, he entered the monk house to find Luang Phor Ophasi had passed away.
During this time, in India, the two disciples of Luang Phor Opasi attended the Buddhist gathering in the company of Luang Phor Ophasi. Luang Phor Ophasi had conversation with many other Buddhists dignitaries and even gave a speech to hundreds of people, even photos of this occasion were took.
Luang Phor Ophasi said goodbye to his two disciples, and told them that he was going to return to Thailand only by other means of transport. When they came back, the disciples had a hard time believing the news of Luang Phor Ophasi’s death, everyone believed that they had become insane when they said to have spent the days in Luang Phor Ophasi’s company. Only the testimony of several other monks present and the photographs in India of Luang Phor Ophasi proved the veracity of their incredible history.
Each year at Wat Luang Phor Ophasi, Bangkok, the coffin of Luang Phor Opasi is opened, his body has not decomposed. The changing of his monk robe and a manicure, and grooming of his hair is provided. This is a common thing regarding monks that have become enlightened, the body will not decompose or if the body is burned the bones will turn to relics.

hiya! could you help me out? I’m new to the fandom and I’m a fic writer. I was wondering if there’s a particular tag most people use to tag their fics here, that other people might track / look at every once in a while? I don’t have a lot of followers but I do want people to find my stuff 😅
thanks!
oh hey welcome to the madness! again feel free to correct me but i don't think there's just one tag everyone uses. if you want your fics to be visible my suggestion would be #supercorp (assuming that's what you're writing for), character tags (lena luthor, kara danvers, supergirl etc.) and then whichever variations of #supercorp fanfic / #supercorp fic / #supergirl fanfic float your boat (use multiple if you want to cover your bases!)

Who the heck is Isabel Cohen?
AG just trademarked two names: Nicki and Isabel Cohen
The good news:
Cohen is a VERY Jewish surname, so we should finally be getting some more Jewish girls
My guess is they'll be twins, considering the problems with Gwynn/the other Wellies popping up and the hype for potential twins when Corinne and Gwynn were announced
The bad news:
Nicki has the EXACT SAME SPELLING as 2007's Nicki Fleming, who already had her interests repeated this year for Corinne (dog training, skiing, new sibling, social anxiety, etc). While Corinne had enough differences it didn't matter, there's no excuse for NickiC to have the SAME SPELLING of the SAME NAME, esp when if her name has to be Nicki for some reason... you can spell it Nikki, Niki, Nicky, Nikky....
Isabel is not exactly "Isabelle" but it's pronounced the same, and there are literally a FUCKTON of variations on Isabelle– Isabella, Isabela, Bella, Izzy, Isa.... Isabelle is not even a decade old either, so there's no excuse for this repeat.
Isabel is also the same name as a Girl of Many Lands, but AG has repeated that before with Cécile.
There's no excuse for BOTH girls to have repeat names. If they're going to be the first Jewish dolls since Rebecca... how hard is it to google "Hebrew names"??? They obviously don't HAVE to have hebrew names but it would be nice representation and better than just repeating Nicki and Isabel again. BehindTheName has almost 12,000 female names it's NOT HARD.

writer questions! 4, 10, 15, 28, and 35 seem interesting!
8D thank!!
4. What’s a word that makes you go absolutely feral?
Most words that cannot be spelled phonetically. Cathedral is a huge one. I cannot pronounce it correctly and doubt I ever will lmao.
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, as well as Dark Delicacies III: Haunted. Ironic considering the titles, but yeah. These aren’t my favorite books by any margin, but they’ve stuck with me over the years. Because of their messages, or simple nostalgia. Besides, who doesn’t love a good harmless scare every now and then? My own writing doesn’t really haunt me, unless it’s an unfinished fic I’ve lost passion for. It could be because of personal experience, certain engagement or lack thereof, or because another story is shouting at me louder than it is.
15. Do you write in the margins of your books? Dog-ear your pages? Read in the bath? Why or why not? Do you judge people who do these things? Can we still be friends?
Ohhh, I do. Sometimes post it notes if they’re nearby. I dog ear paper backs, not hardcovers. I was always taught hard covers were ‘worth more’ and while that’s a weird sentiment to impress upon a kid, it’s stuck with me. I used to read in the bath tub when I had one XD it was a huge soaking tub with a big tile section behind the tub for stacks of books and my stereo.
Nah, I don’t judge. If it’s your book, who cares? I’m usually just grateful to meet fellow bookwyrms~ My copy of the Spearwielder Trilogy by RA Salvatore is so worn and hammered both back and front covers have had to be taped back on, it’s missing one page entirely but I’ve read it so much I know what happens.
One odd thing I do is that I ‘rub’ the left side of the page with my right thumb. I roll the middle of the page while reading, which means many of my older books have odd wrinkles or worn sections in them. Some paper takes it easier than others, thankfully I read fast so I don’t wear out the pages except by multiple read throughs.
28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why?
OOF this is a hard one. I think my tops would be The Projectionist/Norm, although tbh Mike, Bonnie and Cade Yeager are close behind him.
We don't see a ton of Norm except for his audio tape, and ofc his level in the game. He's fun to write because he doesn't talk and while he's def got the potential to be as fierce and feral as Bendy, he's also more mature and able to help Henry in the MB series. I also just...love his design sm.
Mike is an easy answer--he had nothing but his name and eye color back when I wrote LB. It was fun building him from the ground up for the KGA.
Bonnie is my favorite animatronic, I love all the Bonnies actually. Mostly because his personality is based off my bratty little wabbit Hiccup who was with me through a lot. I miss him, but writing Bon helps me a lot.
Cade's just fun because we finally had a competent human in the bayverse. I liked Sam and Mikela but they were kids--Cade was a new dynamic esp bc he bonded to Optimus Prime, instead of how they typically matched Bee with a pet whooman. I also love smart characters that are also stupid. See, Mike Schmidt. Bless their hearts.
35. What’s your favorite writing rule to smash into smithereens?
The ‘first draft is the worst’ rule. Most of my chapters are written in one go, with little variations. At most I nudge entire scenes to later chapters. I write until I hit a word count near 10k, then drop it for a day, then read through it once or twice for spelling errors, then done. Reworking is how I stall out on so many projects. It’s also why I don’t plan writing in advance either.

what rank of angel do u think any of the ut characters would be??? (esp curious abt chara, asriel, mtt, and alphys)!!
angels don't really have a rank in Islam like they do in Christianity, so I'll have to make this more of what role they'd play as an angel/what their job is.
Funny enough, Asriel is an angel! Azrael is the name of Malak-ul Mawt, or "Angel of Death", and is the angel whose job it is to keep record of the living via the dictation of Allah swt and to capture their souls upon death. Azrael and Asriel are pronounced the same, and in some variations or in other religious texts you might find it spelled out as Asriel.
There is also Mitatrush, or Metatron in Jewish belief that I will not touch on as I have no knowledge of that. Little is known about Mitatrush, similar to Azrael, besides that Mitatrush is an angel of the veil ( what hides the physical from the etheral).
However, let's say these names do not genuinely matter in the seating and that the characters can be placed in whatever job suited, I would say:
Asriel and Chara hold the job of Raqib and Atid: two angels that are situated to every person's left and right, one whom catalogues your good deeds and the other your misdeeds to be weighed against you.
I would consider Chara to catalogue your misdeeds ( appearing before you at no mercy ) and Asriel to catalogue your good deeds ( appear to you in pacifist ). These two however have no genuine influence on your fate as they are only there as watchers to your life.
Easy to say Frisk would be Mikail, the overseer of the natural world who hasn't laughed since the day they saw Hell created, and who can bear angels by their tears and is considered as the angel of mercy in Christianity!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mettaton I think would be Artiya-il, the angel of consolation who would take away one's sadness and grief, as Mettaton performs for the underground and wishes to save humanity.
Tumblr media
As for Alphys, I can only really think of her as either a companion to MTT, or as Ridwan, the keeper of the gates of Heaven as she is the "doorway" to Asgore/the barrier through the core. I sadly can't draw her right now, but these were fun to do!

Happy Birthday Amitji
Amitabh Bachchan completes 77 years and 50 years of entertaining us.
It was 1969 he made his debut. I was just 5 years old.
In 1970 we left for Brighton England for my Fathers doctorate, ( before which in 1969 a superstar came on the horizon in form of Rajesh Khanna
I remember the last movie we saw before leaving India was Aradhana).
We were in England for almost 4 years. So I missed the phenomena of Rajesh Khanna and the blooming of Amitabh Bachchan.
I remember the first movie I saw was Roti Kapada aur Makaan it was 1974 at Heer Palace Kanpur. I fell in love with the charismatic character of Vijay .
His journey from a unruly youth to the army where he looses his arm( my father used to tease me for many days as Dunda Haath Chalaaye Bandook ) was very well depicted by him under the direction of Manoj Kumar. The way he drives the motorcycle with the accelerator between his teeth. I was overwhelmed , His anger was so genuine.
The second movie I remember was Benaam. A suspense thriller and my admiration for him increased.
This was followed by reruns of Anand Namak Haraam and Abhimaan at our L7  auditorium at IIT Kanpur ( as they had been released when we were abroad )
I used to ask my parents to take me to see his releases.
Those were the days of advance booking and being away from the main city many times we could not get tickets to his movies..
We had to try thrice before we could see Deewar and Sholay both released in the year of emergency 1975.
Faraar, Chupke Chupke and Mili were the first movies I saw more than once in those days as a 11 year old. Thankfully for me my parents also were movie buffs. ( Obviously I could not go alone then but started doing so 4 years later )
Something which came to me genetically as my grandmother also was a movie fan. We used to see movies over the fortnight.
After almost 2and half months during my Diwali Vacation of 1975, we finally got tickets to Sholay at Sundar theatre. The movie then was ruthlessly edited with Asranis scenes as also Jayas Holi Scenes being cut . But that movie had a great impact on me, esp the character of Jai.
It was later in 1976 in its Golden Jubilee week I we saw Deewaar.
After Deewar I was totally smitten with Amitji, I used to tie a knot on my shirt like he did. Since then somehow or the other I saw every movie released.
In 1978 we shifted to Pune.
In Pune I realised that theatres were not so far as in Kanpur and I had a cycle.
In 1979 in 9th Standard I bunked school and went to see The Great Gambler ( which my parents would not allow as it was for Adults ). In Pune I understood the concept of Advance Booking, where bookings for a movie used to open on Monday and if one wished to see a film First day then that booking needed to be done.
In vacations we used to go my Dads Hometown of Washim ( then in Akola, now a district ) , there we had a theatre owned by a trust of which my grandfather was a trustee. Movies were free for us and seats were reserved for trustees.
Used to love going to the movies there but my memory brightens up when I remember that I saw Muqaddar Ka Sikander 4 times on the trot in 4 days, including once ( Interval to Interval ). Sholay I saw there 5 times in a week, this was thankfully the uncut version .
It is a well-known chapter of Indian film history beginning with the release of Prakash Mehras Zanjeer in 1973 which turned Amitabh into a goldmine.
This movie I finally got to see first on DD and in the theatre as late as 1980 during a re-run. Smouldering in the Salim-Javed dialogues and refracted through the Amitabh flamboyance fired the imagination of a whole nation as nothing had ever done before a trend which was carried ahead in Deewar, Sholay,Trishul, Don, Kaala Pathhar, Shaan, Shakti.
Movies then used to release phase wise first in Metros and a week or even later in other cities . Pune normally movies released a week later than Mumbai
And Lonawala used to come in the Mumbai circuit. I used to take a local to Lonawala to see Amitabhs movies. Once for Yaarana the tickets were not available in Black also , I took a ride at the back of a truck and went till Khopoli and saw the movie. Similarly Kaalia also I saw at Lonawala.
From Pune used to go for Summer Vacations to Mumbai and saw many movies there. Namak Halaal, Dostana, Desh Premee, Mahaan were all seen there.
Once I decided to go and visit his house, then Prateeksha. I had gone alone and after I reached just looked at the house in awe.
I always used to think if I could ever meet him, see him.
Thats a long story and long time ahead.
One incident I remember that in 1991, my father was travelling from Delhi to Mumbai,( and from Mumbai to Pune by road, as Pune airport was not functional then). On reaching home he asked me during dinner , guess who was next to me on the flight ( He was eligible for Business Class then ). I couldnt guess and he told me, your favourite Amitabh Bachchan. I was zapped, I said Dad did you get his autograph ? Dad replied, why should I , Iam not his fan, when you meet him, take it .
Cut to 1994 , I had won the All India award for Best Sales performance and the award was to be given at Mumbai. We were invited to Mumbai and put up at Ajantha Ambassador hotel. We were to join the team from Pune as they started from Sangli by Mahalaxmi express which reached Pune at 6am, we found that very early and decided to come by Deccan Queen which reached Mumbai by 10.30 am. As I reached the Hotel, I saw a Mercedes Van coming out of the gate, I wowed it and came to the reception where my colleague Pravin Rayate greeted me with.. You should have come a bit earlier, Amitabh Bachchan was in the lobby to pick up Jaya Ji {who had her office on the second floor ( Saraswati Audiovisuals, the makers of the TV hit seriel Dekh Bhai Dekh )}. So I Mercedes I saw was his and if I had taken Mahalaxmi express and come, I would have met him. It was not to be. It dampened the spirits of my award ( which I received two days later at Taj from the hands of Adi.B and Nadir.B Godrej .
The Journey moved on..
Insipte of the ups and downs, odds and evens Amitabhs box-office records can be described only in superlatives. Producers and distributors seemed to believe still that even a flop with Amitabhs name on the marquee is a good enough grosser, which was proved by the trade.
His image of the angry young man had viewers reeling under the magic of neorealism, where dream and daydream coalesced in a brave new world. The myriad manifestations of Amitabhs no-holds-barred rebellion offered a blissful release to the repressions of a whole generation. The star became a cult figure of radical dynamism, of iconoclastic change. He was no stranger to the seaminess of street life. His idealism rose not from birth or class, but from action. His avatars recurred in shanties and ghettos, in the underworld dens and among the dregs of humanity. There he battled with the predators of the concrete jungle for survivalhis belligerence hiding a tender heart, family virtues, human kindliness. He was the ultimate good man, often turned bad by circumstances, whose atonement came through self-sacrificeoften unto gory, long-drawn death.
So from Zanjeer through Deewar, Sholay, Mukaddar ka Sikandar, Shahenshah, Inderjeet, Agneepath and Akayla, to Khuda Gawah, the Amitabh archetype continues to reflect variations on a simplistic mould, magnified to a brilliant potency; it has now become part of the collective psyche of a nation of filmgoers. It was the perfect antidote to the dystopian nightmare of modern mechanistic existence, especially in the less cynical times of the recent past. Amitabh individuates his roles with the utmost confidence and conviction. He makes the unsubtle seem subtle, touches the crass with class, makes melodrama credible. Certainly, no other Indian actor had the speaking eyes and spellbinding voice to infuse nuanced suggestivity into stereotypical situations. His finesse did not alienate his characters from the masses.
In the mid 90s he moved towards central Character roles the catalyst being Mohobattein.
Then came the super hit T.V. show Kaun Banega Carorepati anchored by Amitabh. It gave an entire new life to his career which was under the dark shadow.
Finally out of the blue came the date, 12th November 2018.
The prelude to this date was the fact that I had connected to Amitji on all his social media accounts , also my senior colleague Dr Manoj Mehta who was an active participant of ABEF ( Amitabh Bachchan extended Family ), offered us a chance to be a spectator at the KBC show , we ( My friend / ex senior from Godrej Sanjay Pandey, and current colleague Kapil Sharma ) . The date was 12th November. It was the last week of shooting of that season. We reached the sets at Film City at 2 pm sharp but had a long wait till 8pm till we were finally seated, alas in the third row. It was another wait for an hour before the shoot began. Finally at @ 9.00pm he came in a Maroon Suit, seeing him I froze.. There he was some 25 feet away from me. Very interactive with the crowd, very sportive, responding to our comments and jokes. How almost 4 hours past, and it was well after 12am that the photos he has with the audience started and well after 1 am that he left. Look at his dedication reached the sets at 9 am completed 2 episode shoots and left at 1 am. He had just turned 76 then. I had finally seen with my eyes, my hero , my idol, or even if I may say My god.
But better things were ahead, The 2019 edition of KBC started in August 2019.
We had epressed our wish to be a participant again. It was 18th July, at 7.12 pm got a message from Dr Manoj that we could attend the shoot on 6th August as the show restarted on 5th August. This time the procedure was different. There was an online procedure which need to be followed up with the invite.
We did that. But July end, rains started in Mumbai and Pune, everywhere there were spells of flooding, roads closed. Sanjay and Myself were the only two left from Pune and a friend of Sanjay, Kailash Agarwal was to jpin us at Mumbai.
The forecast was rains, we debated till late evening weather to go or quit, but the urge of seeing him was so much that we decided to take the risk.
We reached at 3 pm sharp , but this time there wasnt a long wait. We enrolled ourselves and it was an hour and half later that we were inside. This time being enrolled from the ABEF , we got privileged entry, and were in the first row.
Oh what a feeling it was !! Another hour Later Big B made his majestic entry. Again he was interactive with the crowd, and the shooting ended at 8.30 pm.
Then the photographs moments came. Finally he was in front of me, I had taken a token gift for him, which he accepted. Took his Biography along which he autographed. I was trembling in joy as I shook hands with him, talked to him, it lasted a minute but the emotions were beyond eternity.
Finally at the age of 55 and 45 years later I got to meet him.
Nobody else ever had this deadly combination of unmatched talent and charisma and nobody else will ever have it in future. Then there was style, polish and a great deal of seclusion encouraging rumours and augmenting the aura. Anyway one looked at it, the man radiates power. To recapitulate there has only been one super star in India, and that is Amitabh Bachchan.

Example Lesson Plan
Title: To Whom it May Concern; writing emails
Source & Context: I did not get this idea from any particular source, but the context comes from the ideals of ESP teaching, as can be found in Chapter 13 of Scrivener’s Learning Teaching book. ESP stands for English for Specific Purposes. Some English teaching is entirely ESP, and learners attend classes only to learn very specific English for a job or goal. However, you can adapt ESP techniques and ways of thinking into any classroom. Students of all levels and ages should be learning and using language that is useful to them in their lives outside of class. Dialogues from textbooks are all well and good, but sometimes they can seem unnatural or the context seems like a rare occurrence in actuality. When I thought about some learners and took their needs and daily lives into account, I thought it would be useful to teach them how English speakers interact through email. Emails are different from spoken conversation, and they are different from written assignments in class. They are like a way of speaking in and of their own. The type of language in an email might also differ further depending on who writes it and to whom.
Summary: Students will see some examples of emails written between various people, with different relationships. They will then practice writing emails of their own, adapting to different personas and situations. They will learn several examples of email language and be able to practice using them in contexts that are relevant to their own interests.
Personal interest or investment:  I am working with an English learner who runs her own business on Etsy. She feels uncomfortable in her English skills when it comes to writing an email to a customer that sends inquiries or requests. She is unsure of the professionalism that would be required, and how to put that across if it is needed. Having written countless emails myself to professors, employers, potential employers, and so on, I know how hard and stressful it can be to think about how something should be phrased and what formats to use.
 Language skills and focuses; Learners:
This activity focuses on written language, mostly in more formal registers. However, the registers are not entirely formal, but more-so in a mid-point between formal and casual that we might call consultative. It will focus on interrogative and imperative forms to make polite requests and inquisitions. The learners will likely be high-intermediate to advanced, and they are very likely adults. They might be in late high school, or some other age or group that would need to write professional emails.
Materials: A slideshow or other visual demonstration of sample emails; printouts of blank email templates
Seating arrangement: Students will eventually be working in pairs, so seating can be arranged in rows or a circle, any way that would allow two students sitting next to each other to talk to each other. They do not need to be facing each other or back to back, so side by side is fine.
Before the lesson: Write several sample emails, or find real emails from your own in/outbox to show the students as examples. They should be emails to and from various types of people, with somewhat different levels of professionalism in their relationships. Include some specific phrases and language forms that might appear in these certain kinds of emails. Print out several blank versions of these emails for the students to fill out.
 Procedure/Steps:
-Lead-in: For this class, they are going to be taking care of some business. Ask the students what kind of communication they need to make with professionals, bosses, teachers, anything like that, on a day-to-day basis. Have them think about the ways they might speak to a boss, a professor, a colleague, etc. They are going to practice this kind of communication as it pertains specifically to writing an email. Show them the example emails and explain the different contexts. Then, ask them to pick a persona. It can be an imaginary persona and context or one that they will fit into in their own lives.
-Setting the activity/students up: Hand out blank email templates to each student and set them up in pairs of two. Tell them to work together to write an email for a chosen persona or situation.
-Running the activity: Have students write their emails, walking around and observing as they do so. Answer any questions they might have regarding vocabulary, spelling, and the like. Make sure that each student is using context-appropriate language.
-Closing the activity:  After about 15 minutes, the students should have at least a few sentences and questions in their emails. Tell them to wrap it up and sign off on the email in an appropriate way.
-Inviting student feedback:  Ask students what contexts and personas they chose. Keep track of this, either writing it down tally style or in your head for a smaller class. Have a short whole-class discussion about what they wrote down and how they wrote it, paying special attention to the registers that they used or should have used.
Post activity/Extensions; Variations:  After the students have written their initial emails, they will work with a new partner. Pair them up, and have them look over each other’s emails. Then, they will actually write a response to their partner’s email. This will allow them to put on someone else’s shoes for a different perspective. The way that a professor responds to a student may be very different from the way the student would write the initial email to the professor! Run this section of the activity in much the same way, as the pairs work together, be available for questions and guidance, but leave them to it on their own as much as you can. After that, have another class discussion about what changed when they were responding to their partner’s email rather than writing their initial ones. Again, pay special attention to the language as it relates to registers of English.
To adapt this lesson for other classes, you can change the email contexts. For beginner level classes or younger students who don’t need to write as professional of an email as a college student, you can simply introduce them to general email styles. You could have them write emails to friends and family members rather than bosses and professors. This lesson will change depending on the needs of your class. The example contexts and personas you have them adapt may be very different. If your class is nothing but college students who only need to write emails to professors, focus on that, rather than the other contexts. On the other hand, if your class is nothing but English learning adults who are looking for work in the U.S., they do not need to know how to write an email to a professor at a university, so focus on emails that a prospective employee would write to an employer, and so on.

color me witchly
i have not been a very colorful person lately, unless you count my language. in true form, the new moon and i are not getting along; i am sullen, in physical pain, and grousing about like a wet cat, swiping at anything that makes me mildly inconvenienced. i had meant to post this back on the second day of this witchblr, and then on the third; after a long, late night of mourning a passing family dog last night, i still really don’t feel like posting this today, or doing much of anything. but, sometimes things need to be done or said that are hard or tiring, and i think this may do me some good. so. let’s talk colors.
Tumblr media
colors and crystals and auras, oh my. i gave my husband a book of norse runes and divination practices for yule, and i picked myself up a gift at the same time: a little bit of auras: an introduction to energy fields by cassandra eason (you can find it on amazon; i found it at barnes & noble).  it’s simple, and easy to pick up, and for me, a comfort, because colors and auras were one of the first things my late mentor passed on to me. all things, living and not, have energy. livig creatures and plants are made of energy, inanimate objects may have psychic imprints left by their owners or those who have touched them, and the remains of those living creatures that have passed on retain energy from their previous lives as well; the magic of reading these energies is psychometry, but we won’t touch on that here. what’s important is that these energies, whether you see them, feel them, or sense them however it is you do, have colors, and these colors have meaning.
eason talks about colors specifically as they relate to auras and energy fields, but colors have a place in all parts of magic, from the energy you manipulate to the energy you release, the crystals you use, the candles, you light, the colors you’ve painted your walls, the clothes you wear, everything. below is just a quick master list of color symbolism in magic for the seven major colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet), and the two base colors (black and white). when casting magick, preparing a spell, or even just preparing yourself for the day, you should choose the colors of your tools carefully to boost your intent, or at least be aware of the impact they may have on your spells. so, without further ado:
𝓻𝓮𝓭 ➳ action, survival, change, power, courage, determination, passion, love
𝓸𝓻𝓪𝓷𝓰𝓮 ➳ confidence, independence, identity, creativity, self-esteem, personal desire, fertility
𝔂𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓸𝔀 ➳ changeability or restlessness, communication, travel, intellectual achievement, memory
𝓰𝓻𝓮𝓮𝓷 ➳ love, fidelity, trust, harmony, natural growth, nature, money, prosperity, grounding
𝓫𝓵𝓾𝓮 ➳ ideals, visions, healing powers (esp. those connected to celestial entities), natural authority, justice, truth
𝓲𝓷𝓭𝓲𝓰𝓸 ➳ inner vision, psychic awareness, spirituality, future and past lives / worlds, sight, third eye
𝓿𝓲𝓸𝓵𝓮𝓽 ➳ medium senses and dimension crossing / communion, ancestors, angels, self & spirit
𝔀𝓱𝓲𝓽𝓮 ➳ limitless potential, boundless energy, life force, spirits, quest, purity, cleansing, healing
𝓫𝓵𝓪𝓬𝓴 ➳ transitions, rest, regeneration, sorrow, obstacles to overcome
shades and variations, such as pink, grey, or gold, also have their specific meanings, but i can discuss those in a later post if interested. i hope this reference has been helpful, and maybe it will brighten someone’s day or help them achieve a higher vibration. for more information on color associations, i do still recommend eason’s work, as she also includes information about associated essential oils, crystals, archangels, etc. i may do individual color posts at a later date. but until then,
fair winds and following seas, lovelies.

unrelated to literally anything but. the latest (ie. past year or so) inside joke in my house has been horrendous misspellings of my name
usually it’s pretty excusable - briony or bryoni or the like, just a misunderstood vowel sound esp with the variations of spelling on my name. it used to be that the worst crimes were committed in pronunciation (bree-ony holds a special, hate filled place in my heart.) but lately despite the fact that it’s fairly easy to spell, even when i’ve spelled it verbally or even literally physically for ppl, everyone seems to be misspelling it. so far this year my name has been spelled as, in chronological order:
veroniel (the starbucks spelling that started it all. i think he thought my name was veronica until i said the Y at the end and then he realized he was too far in to fix it and gave up)
beyony. this is on my name tag at work and i haven’t gotten it fixed bc they had to print and reprint it like 8 times and i didn’t wanna hassle anymore.
bryaey. i literally wrote my name down for this how did she spell it so wrong

The Eastern State Penitentiary (ESP) is a prison located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and operated from 1829-1971. This prison was the first of its kind - a prision, “...designed to inspire penitence, or true regret, in the hearts of prisoners”(Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site). Given such a mission, ESP refrained from employing corporal punishments. Instead, prison administrators strictly enforced isolation and hard, “honest” labor as a means of promoting incarcerated individuals to reflect on their supposed wrongdoings (Eastern State Penitentiary: America’s Most Historic Prison 2). ESP’s architecture resembled that of a church, with tall arched windows and sparse cells -- only a bed, toilet, and a bible (Ibid.). The ESP was considered one of the most expensive and famous prisons in the world, serving as the blueprint for future carceral institutions worldwide.
Given the context of ESP as an institution, the specific data collected on over 500 imprisoned individuals was especially niche and curated for the mission of the prison. Each inmate had a multitude of demographic, personal, and behavioral information recorded, such as: name, age, ethnicity, religion, occupation, birthplace, sentencing location, offense, sentencing periods, information about literacy, and discharge notes. Further information on these individual’s religious affiliations and practices was also recorded (e.g. “sold himself to the Devil & meant to rush on to hell for revenge -- did not wish to hear of religion”). The categories chosen make sense given the nature of the institution as one that wishes to cultivate true “penitence” -- partly through labor (i.e. the special attention to occupation, perceived religiosity, etc.). Due to spelling and syntax variations in these data, it appears that they were transcribed by hand and by multiple different individuals throughout the prison hierarchy. It is unclear to us exactly who, though it seems reasonable such records were acquired by a mixture of administrators, guards, and even chaplains.
To begin, we thought it essential to provide a bit more background on the data and the means by which it was collected. This is a crucial step in our project for it provides us with details essential for a nuanced analysis of the data visualizations that follow, exploring potential uses of these data in the future, and an acknowledgment of the ethical concerns surrounding the data collection process (see below).
