With all this talk of Drericka and Jake/Rose comparisons getting me into simething of a ADJL kick, I thought it'd be fun to draw these two sparring together. Ended up going in a different direction than expected. It was just going to be banter about Ericka being the more experienced one/giving her advice, But it ended up going in a mich fluffier + funnier direction. Which fits even BETTER with these two, anyway. (And allowed for fun "bait and switch" joke and Addams-esque bits.)

Still a fun way to bounce these two characters off each other, playing with how this interaction would go. The bouncy older huntress who chose to leave her situation for love and family and the child who felt trapped in her situation until Jake made his wish that freed her from it.

Finally, it's her turn. Martha!

It was bound to happen someday. I remember my impressions from the first cartoon: "Wow, she is so beautiful! Why did they show her for only a few seconds?" And my frustration when I saw Ericka's design in the third one. However, you get used to everything over time.

Of all the redesigns I've done, Martha turned out to be the most... elegant? Initially, I wanted to create her in a simple dress with a unique cape because I liked the Greek motif. The hat and roses were added at the very last moment, as I was unsure whether they were necessary. Perhaps you are already tired of the red and black color scheme, but forgive me, I can't help it.

Honestly, I didn't think much about Martha's character, so I'll leave it up to you. Give her the personality you would like to see.

Simon: He likes to sing and play the ukelele just like his father. Most people find it sweet and nice, if possibly a bit dorky. Rarely performs in public as he's shy and prefers singing with his family or friends, but actually pretty good at it.

*Note: Musical talent runs pretty rampant in the Drac Pack. Not only can Drac sing and play the ukelele, but Mavis, Johnny, Dennis, Frankenstein, Wayne, Wanda, Winnie, Murray, and Griffin all sing and/or play an instrument. Even the Van Helsings show interest in dance.

Lucy: Takes more after Ericka, Mavis, and Johnny in that she LOVES to perform, including singing. Is quite impressive with it, and a wonderful addition to parties and performances.

Meg: LOVES playing the electric guitar and singing. Often includes music in her "performances" as hero, which the city loves. More into hard rock and heavy metal, but can do softer stuff.

Lily: I could see her doing well at karaoke nights! Better than her dad, anyway. XD

Aaron and Connie are both pretty good singers, but not sure what they'd do with it.

Judging by Jake's fantacies and him rapping with Nigel Thrall, Lizzie would probably be pretty good with rap.

Sleepless Nights (a Hotel Transylvania fanfic)

Summary: Drac has some difficulty sleeping, as memories of a certain night exactly 124 years ago haunts his thoughts

It was a beautiful day.

The sun was brilliantly shining above. Not a cloud dotted the sky. Birds were chirping from their perch in the trees. And, being nocturnal, such a beautiful day was utilized by monsters all around Hotel Transylvania, who were dozing contently about.

Well, except for a certain vampire.

Unlike his beloved, Drac could not succumb to the call of sleep, no matter how drowsy he felt, or how much his eyelids were drooping. There was that niggling thought - a memory, a reminder – that persisted to keep him awake. One that he had not been able to erase ever since that one, singular, terrible night. A night that had happened exactly 124 years ago.

It was incredulous to Drac, how it felt as though not a day had passed since then. And yet, so much did, with a lot of it leading to the actions he had taken and events that had occurred. But, as his mind so cruelly reminded him, it had all stemmed from that one sole event. If that hadn’t happened, who knew how things would have turned out for him, for Mavis… for his wife…

As if the universe had been cued to his internal thoughts, the form cuddled next to him suddenly shifted, soft, drowsy hands flitting lightly over his bare chest accompanied by a light sigh-like moan. The Count felt some of the dark thoughts lift from him in a relieving wave, leaving Drac with only fondness towards the woman resting upon his body. The warmth she radiated from her human self seeped into him like warm honey, relaxing some of the tension that had begun to overtake his muscles. He peered down at Ericka now and sighed, somewhat envious, marveling at how easily she slept and how peaceful she looked in that moment, comforted both by the blanket draped across them as well as the gentle contact of their skins, untroubled.

Well, a part of him did remind himself that Ericka was not without her own troubles, namely, her struggle with the ordeal on the cruise and family name. Sure, the woman had proven her worth in the heroic act of saving Drac from the Kraken’s clutches and standing up against the legacy that her great-grandfather had brainwashed her to believe in for so long. But the victory did not entirely satisfy Ericka. She was plagued with the horror of what she was about to let happen, to lose a love… a zing… It was a thing that monsters wouldn’t dare to imagine. But Drac didn’t have to.

With a sigh, he detached himself from Ericka, gently moving her away so not to disturb her slumber and draping the sheets over her form when he rose from the bed. Slipping on his pajama pants for some decency, he padded over to the window in the other room, drawing back the curtains to get a view of the outdoors. Drac had to admit that most of his son-in-law’s ideas were rather nonsensical, but he actually could appreciate the idea for repaneling the hotel’s windows with UV protective glass. In that way, the Count could now stand before the sun’s rays indoors without burning and take a look out at the perfect day that he should have been asleep to. This day that was as bright and cheery and as opposite as it could get from Drac’s current mood.

When he had thought of his wife, it had not been the slumbering beauty that still remained dozing as peacefully content as ever upon their bed. True, they were wed, with the golden bands around each other ring fingers to prove it, but Drac instead had the first woman who had stolen his heart and made him feel that giddy, euphoric sensation, so ideal it felt almost unreal.

Martha.

Her name alone still brought such a pang of sadness to his heart, a tightness that squeezed him, a stinging that pricked his skin, a dryness that parched his throat… and a shudder that went down his spine as he recalled those last, horrible moments he had seen her. The despair in her eyes. The fear…

Drac suddenly wished he was back in the bed, gliding his fingers over the smooth, rosy expanse that was Ericka’s skin. Caressing her soothed his mind, allowing him to focus on something other than his past trauma. But despite this effort, his mind kept wandering back to the memories, bringing them right back into his consciousness, and so much more than ever today.

The Count instead settled for rubbing his hands up and down his arms, the motion working not quite in the same way but still providing the comfort that he sought nonetheless. It's not that he didn't want to forget. It was the last thing he wanted to do. How could he forget his zing? She had meant the world to him, and still did, even in her absence. But it was that said absence that filled him with dread, made him uneasy and reminded him that this was the truth he was living. And nothing could be done to change it.

Drac shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose and willing himself to remember that he still had Martha in his life. Not her in her physical, living form, but in the family around him. Being her daughter, Mavis was a constant reminder of that fact, inheriting her mother’s grace and beauty, as well as her everlasting kindness. Little Dennis also shared some characteristics as his grandmother. Drac could smile to himself recalling certain expressions the boy made that were a spitting image of the woman, or the way his blue eyes sparkled up at him with admiration.

Aside from his family, Drac also had material reminders of his late wife. The portrait that he’d managed to salvage from the fire had captured them both in their prime, at a time where their love was young and hardships were still ages away. For years he had kept it in his room, approaching it and gazing upon her still, painted figure, recalling the wonderful memories he’d shared with her and held dear to his heart. His old ring was another material reminder of her, a wedding band with a beautiful red gemstone on top that sparkled elegantly in the light. She had had one just like it, and his had found residence on the finger of his left hand for over a century before he was able to remove it and finally move on. And then, he thought, there was also the gorgeous little ukulele that was sitting upon his desk now, looking as fresh out of the box as it was so long ago when he received it as a gift from Martha, a memento of their time spent in paradise (or Hawaii as one may better know it as) after they first met and began dating.

With sluggish steps, he approached the desk, running his hands longingly over the taut strings and wooden surface of the instrument. Many a time he had used it as a one-man ‘concert’ to sing various songs for Martha, Mavis, and Dennis. Why, just the other night his grandson had asked him how exactly it was that it was played, and Drac had gladly begun the process of carefully teaching Dennis how to pluck out melodious chords, in hopes that the boy would one day become as skilled as he was. The thought putting a smirk onto his face, Drac picked the instrument up and went back to sit at the window, cradling the ukulele in his lap. He very well remembered the first time he had played the instrument. It was for Martha, right at the one-week anniversary of their relationship. On automatic, his fingers resumed the position that they had taken upon the ukulele strings for that simple little song he’d tuned out for her, and began to play it out again. What resulted was a soft, sweet melody, etching itself into his mind and heart. The melody brought with it a wave of nostalgia, cheery but melancholic at the same time, bringing forth a pool of fresh tears that began to brim at the corners of his eyes. As his mind wandered, his fingers continued their caressing dance on the strings, and soon they brought the sweet little song to an end in a soft, tender crescendo.

A satisfied sigh escaped his lips in that moment, the soft sound accompanied by an identical sigh from somewhere behind him. Turning towards the source in sudden bewilderment, he came face-to-face with Ericka. She stood shyly a few paces away, having seemingly just awakened. Neither said anything for a moment, allowing Drac the time to let his gaze roam over her, down from the petite bare feet to the tussled platinum-blonde curls on her bed-head. Rather than a robe, the woman had vouched for donning his satin pajama top, the article of clothing fitting her just about as well as a short dress, given Drac’s difference in height that allowed its hems to extend enough so that it hung above her knees. The sleeves dangled a bit loosely, the buttons having been fastened in a haste, as evident by how the top few had remained undone in favor of ensuring the ones in the middle were properly hooked so to cover her figure. The twinkle in her blue eyes was indicative to him that she was much more alert than what her tired appearance may have been giving off.

Conscious of his gaze, Ericka shifted her weight upon her feet, interpreting it as scrutiny for interrupting him at what appeared to be a private moment. She bit her lip, and began to speak ever so timidly.

“I… I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb you…” She trailed off, not knowing what else to say.

But it turned out she didn’t need to search for any more words. Gathering his senses, Drac smiled kindly at her, setting down the ukulele and approaching the woman to give her an appropriate greeting kiss.

“Don’t worry about it, honeybat,” he assured when they parted, tenderly caressing her cheek. “I should be the one apologizing. I did not mean to awaken you.”

Ericka shook her head. “You didn’t, Drac,” she whispered. “Have you just… ever had one of those sleepless nights?”

Drac nodded, averting his eyes as he felt his mood going back to that cloud of melancholic sorrow that seemed to want to engulf him once more. “Yes,” he finally muttered. “I have." He dared a glance up to gage her reaction, and could see that same look of despondency reflected back in her eyes. But along with it was a look of knowing that made Drac feel vulnerable under her gaze. She was aware why it was that he was having difficulty drifting off tonight. Ericka had been informed early on in their relationship of the tragedy that had occurred so long ago, scarring her husband’s soul permanently as the memory of it all still weighed down heavily upon him. The blame and regret, and the hand of time that kept ticking on, unfazed, and unable to reverse. Yet even with such an emotional wound, Drac never failed to show Ericka every sign of how he was still able to live fully and find happiness. The wound would not heal entirely, but taking life one day at a time with the friends and family he loved would in no doubt help dull that pain. Cherishing his experiences with Mavis, Dennis, Ericka, the Pack, even the boisterous Johnny acted as a balm to his spirits, uplifting them from the shadows and keeping the dark thoughts at bay.

It was all this and more that was communicated between she and the vampire in that one flit of an instance that their gazes locked together; the expression in Ericka’s eyes showing just how deeply she empathized with the man and how willing she was to offer her support and love without hesitation if needed. And he was incredibly grateful, honored even, to be able to call the Van Helsing woman his zing. No matter if he was his second, she was his zing all the same, and would always be.

Unbeknownst to the man, a small smile had begun to tug at the corner of his lips, Drac not having felt it until his cheeks began to ache slightly in response with how widely it had grown. Ericka reciprocated the smile with one of her own.

“And besides,” she said, a twinkle in her eyes, “It was beautiful. You have a real talent.”

Drac chuckled bashfully at the compliment. "I appreciate it, my love." Then, a thought entered the Count’s mind, and he smirked as he picked up the ukulele again. “I could teach you someday, you know.”

Ericka grinned, looking down at the instrument in his hands and seeming to give the idea some good consideration before she spoke again. “That really would be pretty cool,” she said, her fingers grazing the top of the strings, “but I think that I’d rather just listen for now.”

The vampire nodded understandingly.  “As you wish, my love." Seating himself back down at the desk, he cradled the ukulele back into his lap and had his fingers resume the position anew. Strumming lightly, he began playing the same tune yet again, this time feeling much more at ease in doing so. Ericka sighed in contentment once more, coming up behind Drac and snaking her arms around his neck. She rested her chin atop his head, a slight sway in her stance as the music lulled the both of them into a peaceful state of serenity.

not always but i prefer to! it makes my space feel neat and welcoming (even if it's just to myself lol that's what matters) and it's so nice when i get home and my bed's all tidy bc i made it before going out it's like. ah yes i beat mental illness this morning

an office job in a social cooperative. specifically my office's digital transformation which probably means nothing to anyone

well you see. absolutely not! i mean i could probably take night classes to get a high school diploma, i don't want to but i could, but like actually going back to school ? jesus, no. middle and high school were awful

i have two (like ericka!) both on my right arm. one's inspired by my favorite place, porto selvaggio in puglia (southern italy) and i love it sooooo much i think it's so pretty (and i get compliments about it pretty regularly which is impressive bc it's not Super easy to see but it catches people's attention who want to see it better). the other's a person painting 3 stars with the lyrics "cambia le tue stelle" underneath. i'd like to get more, but same issues as ericka (what to get?? they're fucking expensive) BUT i'm thinking of like getting an addition to the stars tattoo bc basically the 3 stars represent 2 people + 1 pet who passed away that i love very much and now that my sweet little cat ripy is gone too it feels right to get something for him as well. but i have to decide stuff and i'm super bad at decisions lately :^)

blueeeeeee. any shade tbh. light blue dark blue pastel blue cobalt whatever. i love all blues

i listen to a lot of different genres, in different languages, from different decades etc 😭 but i guess if i had to pick, rn i'd say i lean more towards r&b, classic rock and italian pop

12. Do you like puzzles?

yes!!! word puzzles my beloved! i suck at crosswords but i'm trying to do them anyway bc it is so satisfying when i finish one and it's a good way to learn stuff and keep my mind sharp. i like physical jigsaw puzzles too but actually i haven't done one in aaaaages. now i want to tho

i played volleyball during my childhood/early teens, i liked it (i wasn't particularly good at it tho). i didn't really play any other sport until tennis (after i dropped volleyball i think? memories are hard) i love tennis but i didn't take lessons for nearly long enough to be decent at it lmao

yes all the time. now that i live alone i'm always going on monologues while i pace around the (small, it's a lot of back and forth lmao) apartment or do chores or whatever

both. tea tho, i prefer it hot so i mostly drink it during the cold months. i actually didn't drink coffee until like 2 years ago then i got a job and..... being around working italian people, i was doomed to start

I agree with alot of these, though it depends how Immortal+Mortal are done. (Or any fantasy age gap, really) Often, while not CHRONOLOGICALLY close in age, they're close in age physically and mentally. Which takes away alot of the moral objections since they're more equals. For example: Johnny and Mavis in HT. Johnny's 21 in the first film, Mavis is 118 or roughly the human equivalent of 18. She's basically 18 in physical and mental maturity (more or less) which makes her falling in love with a 21-year-old human not so bad. The Doctor and Rose from Doctor Who are another good example. The Doctor is 900+ while Rose Tyler starts off @ 19 in Series 1. Now, this one I understand is a bit more debatable with the physical age gap. But physically and DEFINITELY mentally (Whovians know The Doctor isn't exactly the most MATURE being in the universe for his age. Being a responsible adult is too big a lie for him.) The Doctor and Rose are closer in age. Physically I think Eccleston was in his 40s and David Tennant was in his 30s. Another good example is Felix and Calhoun from Wreck-It Ralph. Chronologically, Felix is 30 and Calhoun's only been around for a week - in the sequel, it's 36 and 6. But physically and mentally, they're both adults roughly close in age.

Granted, all these examples involve Adult/Adult pairings. BUT the point is: if your vamp was basically the physical and mental equivalent of a teenager themselves (either born or turned) then them falling for a human teenager makes sense whatever their chronological age is. (Though it might cause some interesting problems down the road if human SO wasn't turned as well.) If they were basically the physical and mental equivalent of an OLD MAN with a teenager, that would be a different story.

Now, Bully × Victim...I suppose it COULD work. "Picking on you because he/she likes you" isn't exactly my FAVORITE trope but as long as they weren't being TOO cruel about it and the bully learns that's not how to deal with their feelings and tries to be better it can work. After all, Enemies to friends/Lovers IS a good and rather popular trope which can veer into even more toxic territory depending on how it's handled. And people, feelings, and relationships are complicated things. So who am I to say it can't happen?

Step Siblings DO squick me out. I understand it does happen, and I understand why. But...I'm sorry. They should not be dating if they are siblings.

Bonus: Accidental pregnancy...I prefer kids to be planned, but if done well it can also work. "We had sex, then got married for the baby" feels kinda flimsy for a ship basis, but at least it's better than "We had sex and then he abandoned her when she got pregnant." For example, my HT Van Dracula twins end up being Happy Little Accidents largely because A. I can't pass up the Friday, October the 13th birthday, it's too perfect and B. According to the date calculator they would have been made around the time of Transformania's 1 year Anniversary which makes it even funnier! However, Dracula × Ericka are already married before making the twins. (Bonus: In my headcanon, both Drericka and possibly Johnavis are Allo/Ace solidarity! :D Ericka is Pan and Drac is Greyrose.)

Hey! Sorry I've been off. I had a bad IBS flareup. I'll get to @ssleeping-in-a-coffin 's questions eventually. But I thought I'd post these.

A while back, I realized I ended up with an amusing coincidence in my Long Twins (my Jake/Rose ADJL future fankids) and Drericka twins: two sets of half-monster Enemies-to-lovers shipchild twins, with advebturous, chaotic monstery shapeshifting girls and quieter more chill humany yet still bad-ass guys. This plus the coincidental similarities between Drericka and Jake/Rose - even down to the dynamic, almost - inspired this bit of Lizzie, Jaren, Simon, and Lucy flying together. I thought they'd make goof friends if they ever met. XD

Lizzie and Lucy are racing and enjoying themselves, Jaren is enjoying the feeling of wind on his face and hair, while the timid Simon is wondering when they'll be back on the ground. XD

Biollante

"What an ill-mannered rose!"

-Crewel after said rose tried to bite his nose off.

-Biollante when Grim gets close.

Biollante is a hybrid clone of Goji and a rose, accidentally having been created when the he pricked his finger on a thorn and some of his radioactive blood got on a rose he was growing on in class.

Biollante is named after a monster of the same name, with a very similar origin story (the original was made of Godzilla, rose, and a dead scientist's daughter named Ericka's DNA). She (Yes, Biollante is a female rose.) would quickly grow into the rose you see now.

Biollante is a very vain plant monster, becoming very jealous quickly if she thinks she's not getting enough attention.

Because of her appearance, Biollante easily stood out amongst the other roses, causing Goji and herself to quickly become the center of attention, with the students making all kinds of comments on her appearance.

However, things would get ugly when Cater (In his defense, he didn't know Biollante was a sentient radioactive plant-lizard monster) uploaded a image of her on Magicam with "#CreepyLizardRose" as the main tag.

Needless to say, Biollante became enraged about this (She can understand humans) and quickly mutated into a 20 foot-tall plant-beast form, attacking everyone in sight before wrapping them in thick vines and then traveling to Heartslabyul to get become the "Alpha Rose"

After escaping the vines, Goji and the gang would quickly confront this monster by having lots of fire magic, and magic weed killer.

After being defeated, Biollante would shrink into her rose form and become docile, with Goji deciding to keep in Ramshackle as a very useful insect catcher, which Biollante is too happy to do.

Despite this, she is very territorial and will growl or hiss if certain people comes near her, often spewing acidic sap at Grim or throwing up highly itchy pollen at Cater when he comes to visit Ramshackle (That rose is petty as hell). She will not attack Goji, Minilla, or Rin for some reason.

Ericka Van Helsing. Aside from the whole 2nd zing business, there was alot of "Why would Drac zing with someone who wanted to kill him" and "She still tried to kill monsters" when like...she was raised in isolation, to hate monsters and kill them. She thought they were all evil, disgusting animals. Monsterhunting was pretty much all she'd ever known. It was a strict obligation and obsession in her family that...obviously she wanted more than. There's some intimidation and coldness shown between her and her guardian. Most importantly, She realized what she was doing was wrong and tried to help. She apologized. She saved the main character's life, the guy she'd been trying to kill for the whole piece. She ultimately stood up to her family and SAID it was wrong and that they were going to try to do better in the future. In the next film, she goes on a trek with the ENTIRE family, using her hold equipment to help change everyone back to their usual monster/human forms and says she loves Drac no matter what he is and that he helped her leave her old life behind. I mean, what more do people WANT her to DO? And THIS on the site that claims to love "Enemies to lovers." and gush over unstable killer women all the time.

Now, It could be a case of "falls for the oppressor" considering HT allegories, I could see the argument on that. But I've seen other similar monster x hunter enemies to lovers ships like Jake Long/Rose Killdragonosa in American Dragon which didn't seem to get the same kind of hate. Although it's possible he might have suspected. Maybe it's one being kids, the other being adults, or Rose being more conventionally attractive and not as feral. But like...Jake/Rose and Drericka have ALOT of similarities. Including the possible "married the oppressor situation." (Although from my research...both do make up for their old ways and try to make things right. And neither frame the minority as the thing holding them back - like happened with Johnavis in HT. It's the hunter's "family's" negative views. And neither feel like a "Sure, these people have done all these things to hurt us, but you're cute/hot" situation.)

Maybe it would have been better if they made it clearer Ericka was also attracted to the humanity in monsters and seeing how they had families and how they were with them like Katharyn Hahn and the Novelization has said in addition to Drac. But especially in an Addams inspired show about monsters where the main character often ends up covering up a lie and flat out threatened to kill Johnny in the first film and talked about wanting to (with people shipping Drac and Johnny. Which, talk about irony.) In order to keep his daughter happy or around and did end up trying to push his grandson to be a vamp and ALMOST agreed to put him through the same conversion therapy he went through himself out of desperation, I feel people are WAY too hard on the little middle-aged murder bean.

My girl deserves FAR more love than she got.

Been wanting to do this one for a while: I love the idea of Ericka wanting to return the favor on Drac's romantic gestures despite having Zero idea what she's doing. It makes sense considering A. It's only fair, he's done so much for her, more than she feels she can really repay. ESPECIALLY with how he still loves her after EVERYTHING she and her family have done to them. B. Ericka's culturally dutch, which while practical and not romantically flowery, believes Women should put in the sane effort as men rather than the guy spoiling the girl. Plus, Van Helsings seem to care less about man or woman differences. C. Ericka's not likely to care much about gender roles anyeay. She grew up on a boat learning to fight monsters. Which kind of adds a bit to the possibility of being Nonbinary/Genderfluid. D. Personally, I like the idea of the girl doing romantic things for the guy, it's alot more fair and equal and I think fun for both sides. and E. Awkward Ericka is adorable and funny. Even more so since I'm not sure if she would be as versed in flower language as Drac would be. Her choice pretty much boils down to "This reminded me of you."

So I liked the idea of Ericka trying to give hin a flower like Drac gives to her in some of the promo art. And this Dracula's Kiss Iris I found a while back seemed too perfect an idea (If hard to draw.) Even if I generally see him as being more a rose (or perhaps something more monstrous, like Nightshade or Venus Flytrap) person...I feel like he'd be touched by that. And probably making jokes aboyt the whole Dracula's kiss thing after he gets over the surprise and feelings of her wanting to romance him. XD

Bluewater Village - Delarosa Flowers - Round 1

We start our round in Bluewater Village with Delarosa Flowers at 15 Lake Meadow Circle. Here's what the game says about Delarosa Flowers

"Looking for a way to say “I love you”? Look no further than Delarosa Flowers. Florence’s arrangements are almost as famous as her delicious pasta dishes. The secret to her sauce? Rose-hips!"

The proprietor is Florence Delarosa who is a Knowledge Sim. Florence is the daughter of William and Mary Delarosa, both deceased. Her in-game bio says:

"Born with a green thumb, and graced with old-world charm, Florence has a way of winning friends. A recent arrival, rumors about her past abound. What intrigue lies behind her shy smile?"

Florence is gay and her secondary aspiration is pleasure. Her lifetime want is to be a Master Florist (make 300 bouquets).

Florence asked Ericka out on a date. And they were caught by Nina Caliente (who in a previous round had started a relationship with Ericka, and I believe, Ericka had moved in with.). That did not end well for anybody.

On the plus side, Florence's flower shop seems to be doing well. It is now a 3 star establishment.

Florence also managed to woohoo with Marylena Hamilton after a couple of failed attempts at dating her.
