DESTINYTOBER: Day 5 - Impasse
Read it on AO3
"All nighter, Pujari?" Wei Ning inquires. The warlock sits at a makeshift desk, in the epicenter of a veritable blast radius of papers — reports, manuals, maps, some pinned up and highlighted — sunken-eyed, hair mussed, Ghost looking equally weary.
Titans, warlocks, and especially unfortunate hunters gather on the outskirts of the Last City, ruins and tents acting as their quarters. One of six such camps set up around the perimeter in anticipation of a massive Fallen assault. Meanwhile, other hunters — the lucky ones — travel far afield, providing intel on the enemy's advance.
"Mm." Pujari picks up the tin cup and takes a gulp of coffee. "Scouts reported House Devil walkers in the Western mountains six hours ago. We're running out of time to formulate our counter-offensive."
Wei runs a hand over the back of her head, buzzcut fresh enough to prickle under her touch. "No one loves tactics more than a titan, so I don't want you to take what I'm about to say the wrong way. Isn't this … excessive?"
"If not through planning, how do we hope to triumph?"
"When they come through the pass over there," she gestures generally in the direction, "we unload artillery on them. If they get past that, bullets. Then, our fists. We're outnumbered, sure, but we have the Light and they don't."
"The Fallen look like ragtag scavengers, but we shouldn't forget they're representatives of the Darkness. We would be unwise to underestimate their power."
"I'm not. I just know we're better. We'll be better still if we don't commit ourselves so hard to a strategy that we can't improvise. We can't get lost in the weeds of theory and forget practicalities …" Wei scans over the stack of books on the desk. Picks up the top one, which was left opened and annotated. "'A Treatise on Sky and Deep'? Come on now."
Offended, Pujari snatches it from her hands.
"You two good over there?" Eriana-3 asks, optics cocked, stepping away from her briefing with the other Praxic Warlocks.
"Uh — yes, my sunflower," Wei smiles, with a pat of her bond arm.
"A difference of opinion on strategy," Pujari offers with a thin veneer of courtesy.
"Well, Mota reported activity near the cut, so you might want to settle it soon."
Wei and Pujari exchange skeptical glances, both aware this isn't the end. For now, an agreement to disagree.

first crota fireteam headcanons!
putting this below a cut because it’s ungodly long. i have so many thoughts about them and pre-hellmouth eris i just let the delusions take over.
Eris Morn
Initially very outgoing, optimistic and talkative, typical Hunter sense of humor, curiosity, snd adventurousness, with a touch of that Warlock-y bookishness
Short, about 5’5, and a little chubby, physically in her late 20’s-early 30’s, brown curly hair with bangs, generally very neat and well-kept appearance with a preference for comfy sweaters/long skirts
Competitive and surprisingly intelligent for a Hunter, very nimble and quick in combat, Arc Blade Dancer
Friendly and even a little promiscuous, disastrously non-monogamous bisexual heartbreaker, catches feelings fast and easy
Close relationship with Brya, who acts like a cross between a nagging Russian babushka and the one girl in the friend group who takes closet organization a little too seriously.
Became progressively more mature throughout the Ahamkara Hunt/Great Disaster, during which she was the oblivious third-wheel to Eriana and Wei Ning
Changed drastically after Wei Ning’s death, becoming more reserved but still optimistic and hopeful
Her #1 motivation for the attack on Crota was to help Eriana find peace and heal from Wei Ning’s death; absolutely had strange and undefined feelings for Eriana
Vell Tarlowe
Courageous and noble, a prime example of the “knightly” Titan. Focused on honor and ethics, doing the right thing and never leaving anyone behind
Handsome and boyishly charming, about 6’2 and fit but not incredibly bulky, sun-tanned with beachy blonde hair and blue eyes; think Captain America meets Ken from the Barbie movie.
Multi-subclass with a preference toward Void; more of a lover than a fighter. Will always prioritize getting civilians and teammates out safely over taking out enemies when possible
Probably the second oldest after Toland, has had a long-running patrol in the EDZ villages helping transport civilians through enemy territory
Saved Eris and Brya from being crushed under debris after a Fallen attack, then recruited her for his patrol team; he has a strong fondness for her that remained even after Eris went her own way
Has an extremely sensitive side and cares deeply for other people, especially children; highly empathetic and would give you the shirt off his back if you asked, selfless to a fault
Treats Razor almost like a little brother; he’s Vell’s #1 hype man and encourager of his occasional reckless ideas
Metalwork is his “peace of mind” hobby, enjoys the repetitive process of making chainmail and other small jewelry crafts, especially for his close friends and partners
Immediately hit it off with Omar upon introduction; the extrovert friend who handles social situations Omar is too awkward for
His death in the Hellmouth was 100% pure self-sacrifice; he’d volunteered to guard the rear, didn’t draw any attention to himself or cry for help to prevent the others from getting hurt trying to save him
Died at peace knowing he’d at least helped his team get to their destination safely
Sai Mota
Shy, quiet, and very introverted, unassuming and easily overlooked. She initially gravitated toward Eris’ outgoing nature
Very petite, about 5’3, extremely thin and flexible, of Asian descent, straight dark hair, dark eyes, and freckles!
Knife girl, has at least 6 on her person at all times, stealthy assassin-style fighter, Bade Barrage and throwing knife enthusiast
Carves beads/charms and makes jewelry in her free time, sometimes sells it for a little extra Glimmer
Has a tendency to be easily convinced or persuaded, typically relies on others for guidance and decision-making, very go with the flow and adaptable
Despite being quiet, Sai is unstoppable if you get her fired up about something she’s passionate about. Will lecture you if you talk down on yourself in her presence
Was just as optimistic about the attack on Crota as Eris, if not more, very quick to befriend Vell, Omar, and even Toland
Lost it a little bit after Vell’s death. She knew their mission was doomed and accepted that if he hadn’t survived, she probably wouldn’t make it out either, wanted her death to be meaningful
After they failed to kill the Hand of Crota, she ran in the opposite direction of Eriana to allow her escape, allowed Yuka to keep reviving her so many times as a diversion to keep Omnigul distracted even though it was a waste of her Light
Toland was 100% right about her; she desperately craved her team’s respect, especially from Eris
Omar Agah
Mega-nerd, detail oriented, and painfully socially awkward. Could not navigate his way out of a social situation to save his life.
Tall, around 6’0, very broad and bulky build, not fat persay but definitely a big guy. Dark-skinned Afro-Latino with long locs and brown eyes, says he’s 31 because that’s a Good Number.
OCD as hell and extremely picky/particular/paranoid about everything. Chronic skin-picker, rest in pieces to his upper arms, lips, and fingers, he has tons of scarring and picks so much his ghost can barely keep up with it
Some of his obsessions include: 2 and 4 are unlucky numbers, asymmetry is bad luck, if he doesn’t give his little talismans to people in his life they’ll die horrifically and it’s his fault.
Multi-subclass Hunter. Will obsess over what works best for each specific mission/objective. The most flawless and meticulous builds and weapon-ability combos
His ghost, Karsys, is relatively quiet and uninvolved with Omar, more of a strong and silent protector when necessary
Met Eris when she saved him from certain final death in a lost sector. She stumbled across him by chance, but Omar took it as a sign that she’s Good Luck
Any time he has a risky mission coming up, he’ll pop up at Eris’ door with treats and little gifts and spend the night chatting with her like she’s some Goddess of Fortune
Full faith in the Crota raid because Eris Is There
Absolutely HATES Toland’s vibes. Everything about him screams misfortune and Omar can’t stand it
Gave every one of his team mates their own little talisman before the raid just for that extra good-luck boost; held onto Eris’ though she declined it
Sai and Vell’s deaths pretty much shattered his entire world view. He made sure everything was perfect, that they were wearing his gifts, and they still died.
Felt like he deserved the torture of losing his ghost and having his Light torn away piece by piece because he failed to protect his team. Ouch!
When Eris saw him in his final moments, he urged her to leave him behind and press on, confident that she’d make it to the end even if he’d damned the rest of their team
Obviously it wasnt his choice to get turned into a bug, but funny enough, Bug Omar is a cricket! And Bug Omar gets encased in amber when Eris puts him in Xenophage. Both crickets and amber are symbols of good luck :)
Toland, the Shattered
Enigmatic cryptic old man scholar, frustratingly cagey, speaks in riddles, major know-it-all and certified well-actually specialist.
Lanky and tallish, around 5’10-11, long black hair and pretty pale from lack of sunlight. Probably a little Native American somewhere in his ancestry, visibly a bit more aged than the others, between late 40’s-early 50’s
NOVA BOMB VOIDLOCK BABY!! Collects Hive weapons for funsies but rarely uses them in close range combat
Poor eyesight and very little spatial awareness, strong disdain for the flesh and neglects basic tasks like eating, sleeping, bathing, etc. when he’s fixated on something. Also super clumsy and constantly bruised from running into shit in his little exiled wizard lair
Toland and Guren are typical freak and freak-enabler. They’re each others’ only company in exile, so Guren feeds into all of Toland’s ideas and theories and gets just as invested as he is
The Hive obsession is strong and he definitely was treading into some dangerous territory, theorized that a Lightbearer could commune with the Hive via hearing the Deathsong and ultimately produce Lucent Hive
Joined the team mostly to get in close proximity with Ir Yut and planned to offer himself and his Light up to her
Unveiled his signature weapon to his raid team as the “Osseous Rifle of Four-Hundred Screams”, but Omar freaked out, said it had “bad juju”, and the nickname stuck.
Clicked surprisingly well with Sai despite not having a ton of faith in her, also close with Eris and Eriana as he’d briefly tutored them in Hive lore when they were preparing for the first attack on Crota. They aren’t sure whether the information he gave them had anything to do with Wei Ning’s death
Guided the team through the Hellmouth, took care of translating any Hive tunes they came across and solving all the puzzles. Genuinely made a valiant effort until they reached Ir Yut
Rocked up to her with all his autistic rizz on some “let’s form an alliance” shit and got balled anyway. Not mad about it though!
Eriana-3
Semi-competent lesbian with a strong will and fighting spirit. If Eris is a Warlock-ish Hunter, Eriana is a Titan-ish Warlock. That big heart gets her into a Lot Of Situations.
Around 5’10, slender but sturdy build and very elegant looking for an Exo. Her plating is white, grey and orange with markings around the crown of her head that resemble a sunburst. Very piercing orange-yellow eyes
Phoenix Protocol Well-lock. Typical strategy is keeping her well up at all times so Wei and Eris could do most of the offense/damage and run back to her for healing
Spent most of her time as a guardian trying to be that ideal super-serious no fun allowed Praxic Warlock— until she met Wei Ning
Fell in love with Wei Ning the first time she heard her laugh, then Wei spent most of their “talking” stage trying to get Eriana to laugh back. Eriana’s laugh is super dorky and obnoxious and Wei loved it
They got married in a simple ceremony at the bar they first met at— Eriana gave Wei a hand cannon as a wedding gift hence the name Eriana’s Vow. Wei gifted her a specially-made version of the Fighting Lion grenade launcher that had enhanced damage perks while standing in a Well
Jax and Wei Ning’s Ghost were in love too :)
Met Eris through association with Ikora— viewed her as a close friend and is very protective of her. There’s something confusing and complex going on with their relationship, but Wei treated Eris like a little sister and Eriana didn’t know how to navigate that.
Easily the least reckless of their group before Wei Ning’s death. That was a major turning point and all her composure went out the door. She became very impulsive and revenge-driven, not caring about the consequences so long as it meant avenging Wei
Relied on Eris for a lot of emotional support after that, which Eris definitely took the wrong way. They kissed and slept together (like actually cuddled and fell asleep) a handful of times before facing Crota, but they both knew it wasn’t anything serious and Eris would never be to her what Wei was
Fond of Vell, Sai and Omar, trusted them to care for Eris in all the ways she couldn’t; still saw them as expendable but had hope they’d be smart enough to retreat if things got dicey
Very contentious relationship with Toland; her Praxic ideology contradicts with his affinity for the Hive and she harbors suspicion that he misled them in the first Crota raid and/or somehow contributed to Wei’s death. She definitely might have hoped that something would happen to Toland during their raid
Her objective for the raid was “avenge Wei Ning or die trying”, very much did not intend to make it out herself. By the time they actually embarked on the raid, she was entirely consumed and blinded by her need for vengeance.
Was essentially “throwing” the entire raid, not playing to her skill set, fighting offensively and Titan-like rather than staying support, never used her Well a single time in the Hellmouth
Not to mention, she was using Wei Ning’s gun the entire time!!! Not, yknow, one of her own long-range weapons that she was used to using to suit her combat style
Died willingly to Ir Yut, assuming that the rest of her team was already dead and she’d taken them all to the grave in pursuit of vengeance— unleashed the full power of her Light as she died as a last-ditch effort to make this all mean something, even if it was only injuring the Deathsinger in the process

prompts: destiny + halcyon
“It’s a bird,” Eriana said.
Wei turned in her arms. “What?”
The grass of the Tower promenade was soft under Eriana’s cloak. Most poets said you never knew the good days while they were happening. Eriana had noticed them on purpose since she joined the Praxics. The Last City wore a dress of spring leaves. Even the craters were smoothed over with growth, blue water glinting up at a sky busy with birds.
“Halcyon. Good days. It was also the name of a kingfisher.”
Just birds. Traveler give every warrior a sky empty of ships.

Don't you think it's funny how almost always Titans just can't help themselves when it comes to Warlocks? (Saint and Osiris, Wei Ning and Eriana, Shaxx and Felwinter, ect)
Just always seem to be drawn to each other yk?
What do Hunters get you might ask? Well that's simple: They have each other! It goes:
• meet under unlikely circumstances
• develop lifelong bond
• get into a stupid mess
• one of them dies in (or as a consequence of) said stupid mess
• the one left alive gets super traumatized, has a huge change to their entire personality makes the death become their main driving force, and then waits until they meet a new hunter so they themselves can die in a stupid mess and continue the cycle!

Destiny is a story about shapes and grief.
I think I may have figured out Destiny. I don't think the primary conflict between the Light and the Darkness is the philosophical issue we thought it was.
I got thinking about it after all this talking, with many others but especially @jazzhandsmcleg, about the way all of The Witch Queen DLC and its 4 seasons have had overarching narratives surrounding trauma and cycles of violence and grief, and the way the Darkness and the Light are characterized by their different approaches to it.
In TWQ, Savathûn is given a true second chance for her species in the Light. But as Ikora points out, she struggles to break free of the learned patterns of the Darkness, continuing the pattern of deception and violence.
Same with Season of the Risen - it’s the Warlords and Dark Ages all over again, but this time it’s the Hive. It forces once again to ask: what does it mean to be given a second chance if this is what you do with it? Temper this with Saladin’s story about the girl from the Dark Ages who he protected, but who became a cruel mortal Warlord in her own right. Crow objects to the mental torture of the Hive Lightbearers and he tries to break from the cycle of interspecies violence, but unintentionally ends up continuing it by killing the Psion and heightening tensions between humans and the Uluran.
Season of the Haunted!!! Literally, the entire thing is about confronting your traumas and greatest fears and the worst parts about yourself and beginning to heal them, making something better from them. Completely changing the game by turning Nightmares that torment into Memories that guide you. Crow with the memory of Uldren, Zavala with that of Safiyah, Caiatl that of Ghaul - and most importantly, resolution focuses on how they, specifically have been held back from healing by their self-incriminating Nightmares. It challenges the cycle of continuing violence on a very personal level. Eris even has patrol dialogue describing the a Nightmare as a thing of pain craving only more pain: "Such is the cycle."
Season of Plunder brings up the very same questions on a much higher organizational level. It gives us Eido and Eramis taking very different jaded vs. new-hope approaches to the legacy of the Whirlwind, asking: can we change? Are we defined by generational trauma forever? Can we continue to grow and change for the better even though it can never be undone? Though Eido is clearly young and naïve, we're clearly given the opportunity and narrative nudge to sympathize with her desire and hope for growth and redemption, both for the Eliksni overall, and for Eramis in particular.
And we're not even done with Season of the Seraph, but it already goes incredibly hard asking the same questions, again from a more personal angle. How far, and through how many generations is trauma transmitted? From the Bray family to Rasputin, to Felwinter to Osiris to Ikora – how do we fix this? How do we fix this? How do you defeat an enemy who IS war itself? What can you do to end an endless cosmic cycle of violence?
Go back and back and back in Destiny's lore even back to D1, and the majority of conflicts seem driven by this cycle of grief and revenge and violence. The entire line of humanity's war with the Hive goes back through Oryx's grief for Crota and the First Crota Fireteam and Eriana-3's grief for her wife Wei Ning. Even the Hive siblings' pact with the Worm Gods, though manipulated by Rhulk, was driven by the pain and grief they endured for themselves and their people, and wanting to escape that cruel pattern. The entire predicament of the Eliksni and their conflict with humans is driven by the trauma and grief and loss of the Whirlwind. Even Caiatl's empire, a conquering force that would be highly regarded by the sword logic, now must reckon with the same kind of loss in the Fall of Torobatl.
How do you escape this cycle and stay free of it?
I think, this year, we are finally seeing the beginnings of an answer.
I can't highly enough recommend the TWQ Collector's Edition lorebook (page scans & transcript) and The Hidden Dossier (page scans & transcript) that immediately follows it. What I've been calling Ikora's theory of "memory and grace" that she develops through the course of these two lore books is a balanced philosophy of memory/Darkness and grace/Light (which honestly deserves an entire post of its own). I think it clearly points toward the final resolution the story of the conflict between the Darkness and the Light.
In light of this, something in the Calus part of the new Lightfall CE lorebook (images, transcript) really jumped out at me.
“The doomed and the damned left the record of their downfall in the OXA. Your star got its name from the oldest myths in that archive. And when your mother told your father that story…the star became your name. A prayer that all will go as it must…and the way it must go is struggle.” “Aiat.” Not a word in Ulurant or any other Cabal tongue. “But Caiatl means something else..” “Yes. ‘It may not always go as it needs to go.’ A good name for a soldier." "A strange name for a daughter," I say. "Your father chose it for your mother's sake. Out of love."
And because the parallel is so overwhelmingly striking, I am once again going to reference philosophy/worldbuilding from the Young Wizards universe, which has great resonance with Destiny lore and which Bungie has been long aware of and has even been referenced in Forsaken-era canon lore.
“all the fair things skewed, all the beauty twisted by the dark Lone Power watching on his steed. If only there were some way he could be otherwise if he wanted to! For here was his name, a long splendid flow of syllables in the Speech, wild and courageous in its own way—and it said that he had not always been so hostile; that he got tired sometimes of being wicked, but his pride and his fear of being ridiculed would never let him stop. Never, forever, said the symbol at the very end of his name, the closed circle that binds spells into an unbreakable cycle and indicates lives bound the same way.” [...] “Nita bent quickly over the Book and, with the pen, in lines of light, drew from that final circle an arrow pointing upward, the way out, the symbol that said change could happenif, only if—and together they finished the Starsnuffer’s name in the Speech, said the new last syllable, made it real.” Excerpt From: Diane Duane. “So You Want to Be a Wizard, New Millennium Edition.”
CAIATL’S NAME IS LITERALLY THE UP-AND-OUT SYMBOL.
I know I'm probably only talking to the handful of Destiny players from the (very small) Young Wizards fandom, but what you need to know is that this moment is pivotal and sets up the series-long theme of hope for an eventual exit from the cycle. It's the incredibly small, overwhelmingly improbable possibility of a second chance, a new start for the Lone Power, the source of all strife and suffering, who itself is driven by loss and pain. A concept of extended grace that is inherently tied to the philosophy of the Light.
“Billions of years, it took. All the redemptions there have ever been went toward this; from the greatest to the least. And finally in the fullness of time you came along, and took my role, of your own will, and woke up a race powerful enough to change the whole Universe, and gave them the fire.” She glanced up at the mobiles and smiled. “How could he resist such a bait? He took the gamble: he always does. And losing, he won.” [...] “The Defender reached down and put a hand into the shadow. “And we are going where such matters are transcended… where all his old pains will shift. Not forgotten, but transformed. Life in this universe will never have such a friend. And as for His inventions… look closely at Death, and see what it can become.” The long, prone darkness began to burn, from inside, the way a mountain seems to do with sunset. “Brother,” the Defender said. “Come on. They’re waiting.” Excerpt From: Diane Duane. “High Wizardry New Millennium Edition.”
This is the devil’s second chance, its homecoming. Grace among the memory. How do we heal this? By fixing it. By making and TAKING that opportunity of grace.
Likewise, Destiny is shaping up into its own universe’s story of this Reconfiguration, the remaking of everything that exists through the act of a second chance, both offered and taken, with full awareness of the irreversibility of harm already caused.
Destiny isn’t the story of the light and the darkness fighting each other. That happens, but that’s not what it’s ABOUT.
It’s “And I know exactly what we are. We’re best frenemies with a history of intense mutual hurt and messy reconciliation, leaving a deep tenderness as well as an almost impenetrable knot of scars. What could be simpler?” (Chalco)
It's “For so long, I believed peace was beyond my reach. No more. I have found it in guiding others down the same path that saved me. But… I might allow myself to want more than peace. What, I am not certain. Is joy the word? Might I find that again?” (Eris)
It's “Second chances… hm. Turns out I've been using mine wrong. I thought being a Guardian was my destiny. That wielding the Light for good was the most I had to offer. But it's clear now. This is what the Traveler chose me for. I was reforged in the Light for a purpose. To remake something dead and gone… into something beautiful. To learn how to forge something new from what we were. Everything Uldren did to the Reef, the Scorn… Fikrul. I have a responsibility — no — a calling to make them whole. And… I can't replace Cayde. But I can cover his old patrols — maybe organize the Hunters a bit, if they'll let me. Clean up some of my mess. I don't know if I can fix everything Uldren left broken… but I can try.” (Crow)
We aren’t defeating the Darkness. That’s never what it’s been about. It’s about breaking the cycle of trauma and grief with memory and grace. We're transcending the Final Shape, but we're not here to destroy it or become it. We’re harmonizing the Darkness and the Light into a sustainable balance to create something new from the wounded remains.
We're here to heal the broken relationship between the Winnower and the Gardener.
That's all that it is, in the end. They had a falling out, and now they hurt, and they hurt each other, and everything else, forever. Breaking free from that cycle begins and ends with them.
Is that fair? No, it's not.
But Destiny is – unhingedly, brilliantly, paradoxically – a FPS game about how to stop killing each other, growing ever more into a framework of restorative and reparative justice.
The story says, we are all culpable, we have all done awful shit and have endless potential to do more awful shit – AND, most critically, we all have the potential to do better (grace). AND, the act of making the conscious choice to do so and letting that happen is the only way for things to get better (memory).
The Collapse happened and it was horrible, the Red War happened and it was horrible, the Great Disaster happened and it was horrible, Twilight Gap happened and it was horrible...AND?? HOW ARE YOU GOING TO RESPOND? The Whirlwind happened and it was horrible! The Fall of Torobatl happened and it was horrible! Your species' Choice was stolen and you became the most prolifically violent killers in the universe and it was and is horrible! WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?
Are you going to make it more horrible? Or are you going to make it BETTER????
Are you going to fight for the Final Shape, or for the gentle kingdom ringed in spears?

The Enucleation of Eris Morn
A Festival of the Lost collaboration with @hiseumingo through @d2artevents
Link to Ao3 if you prefer to read it there
There are queer things told in the deep space cold By the ones who venture far I seen horrible blights and gruesome sights Too dark for planet or star But none are as bad, or as horribly sad To make even a Deathsinger moan As when hope got squished, and ol’ Three-Eyes wished On her Ahamkara bone
Wei Ning was a Titan, and always fightin' Everyone loved her laugh If bad stuff needed killing she was always willing To fight on Earth's behalf She volunteered when the call went out To clear the Moon of Hive The Great Disaster's what they called that after Very few got out alive
Now Eriana-3, was an Exo, you see A Praxic Warlock, too She loved Wei Ning more than anything So when Crota killed Wei, she knew There'd be nothing here that'd ever come near To what she'd lost and, well, The only thing left was to get revenge And march straight into hell
Ol' Three-Eyes was once Two-Eyes And was a Hunter at that time She and Wei were tight, and when they took Wei's Light The Hive had crossed a line So when Eriana-3 said come with me First in line was Eris Morn They made a pact, and just like that The First Crota Fireteam was born
They needed a way for Crota's death to stay Or he'd just get back up from his throne Wei Ning bein' snuffed was proof enough They couldn't use brute force alone His brains might've been scattered but Toland the Shattered Said he knew a way "I think he's a jerk, but it just might work" Was all Eriana had to say
So they gathered three more to kick down the door And finish what Wei Ning began They snuck on the Moon's surface with terrible purpose Intent to enact their plan They didn't know as they went down below Giving one last look at the skies That no one among them would ever again See the stars with their own eyes
Vell Tarlowe was the first to go Got overrun by Thralls The horrid crunch as his bones got munched Echoed through those hellish halls Sai Mota laughed as she breathed her last While Omnigul watched her die The wormrot infested her, then it digested her And that was the end of Sai
Eriana's doom was a snappy tune By a Deathsinger named Ir Yut As it turns out that musical shout Was power absolute A power so strong came out from her song Eriana's Light couldn't outshine Toland betrayed her, and when Ir Yut had flayed her He was willingly next in line
Toland's secret goal was to rip out his own soul And in death become redefined He sold them all out to that Deathsinger's shout And it blasted his fractured mind It's incredibly tragic that his love of Hive magic Corrupted his brain with its call But he got what he wanted and now the Moon's Haunted By Toland the sparkle ball
Now, he wasn't the first, but by far the worst Was the fate of the Hunter Omar A Hive Wizard caught him, then gleefully taught him That death ain't the worst thing by far She enjoyed how he squealed, every time that she peeled Another small piece of his Light Eris Morn cried, at the time, still two-eyed Unable to save him that night
Six had gone in with a good plan to win 'Till hope from them all was torn Five had found death and the only one left Was the Hunter Eris Morn She knew she was stuck, but she wouldn't give up And her ghost encouraged her sweetly Yet, each time she rested the Hive manifested She couldn't escape them completely
They hid best they could but her ghost understood That the Hive were attracted to Light And that little ghost loved Eris Morn most And acted upon that insight So as Eris cried at her ghost's suicide She was hid by the shadows around her And try as they might there was no more Light To track, so the Hive never found her
Lost in the dark, without her ghost's spark Eris Morn was abandoned in hell She wouldn't give in, and let the Hive win But the way out, she couldn't tell She fought and she hid and somehow, she lived For a hundred years all alone She had one option left, and it wasn't the best: An ahamkara bone
She made her bargain in that bleak garden Of chitin and sickness unkind The bone took its price, and it wasn't nice: Eris learned the way out, but was blind Now what would she do? And as if on cue A Hive Acolyte found her location No ammo, one knife, but she still clung to life And fought with sheer desperation
Without her sight, it was quite the fight But in the end Eris struck true And as the Hive died Eris realized, Perhaps three eyes could replace two With a snick and a chop, her eyeballs went plop With her own knife she dug a new hole With a bit of Hive voodoo and a lot of bad juju She soon achieved her goal
Running on pure spite in that endless night Eris Morn was purpose driven With her wits and her grit, she crawled out of that pit But the Hive would not be forgiven As she saw the stars rise with her Acolyte eyes Her need for vengeance burned bright And so Eris Morn, became Bane of the Swarm And to this day continues to fight

I believe Eris Morn to be a Christian, and I will share my reasons for why I believe this.
For starters, Eris Morn has never seemed to worship the Traveler. Maybe she respects it and it’s power, but she has never seemed to worship it like other characters have.
Eris Morn has also shown time and time again that she will put others before herself, showing that she is a servant leader. In season of the Witch Eris risked her life by becoming a Hive, so that she could save everyone from Xivu Arath. Some like Ikora and the Exo Stranger doubted Eris and her ability to control herself in Hive form. Ikora said Eris was being reckless, but in the end what Eris did was really the only solution to severely weakening Xivu Arath and giving humanity a chance at survival. Had she not risked her life to save everyone, likely we would still be facing the threat of a fully strengthened Xivu Arath still.
In season of the Haunted Eris basically became everyone’s therapist and helped them, even when they were being difficult. She also continued to respect and help Caiatl even when Caiatl was being rude and called her a “Hive tainted witch”. Eris suffered through five of her own phantoms, and took her knowledge to help others overcome theirs. There is also a likely possibility that she helped the Drifter with his phantom as well, though there is no lore about it if it did happen. Eris was patient and kind and helped everyone else without seeking praise or glory, which also shows that she is humble.
Eris is also wise, because in a piece of lore when her and her fireteam are heading to defeat Crota, Eriana-3 says, “I'll find peace when I rip that monster's beating heart from his chest.” and says there is no world for her after Crota is dead. Eris says that she has never known vengeance to bring peace, and that they can honor Wei by ridding the world of Crota, who has killed thousands. Eris also acknowledges that what Eriana-3 is feeling is to be expected, and says that in time her and Eriana can forge a new world together. Eris is being wise, letting Eriana know that vengeance does not bring peace, and being supportive by letting Eriana know she is there for her.
Eris was also stuck in the Hellmouth for some amount of time, though it is not clear how long. But even though she was stuck and just lost the people she loved, she did not give up. Eriana-3 sounded like she wanted to give up on life after they killed Crota, because she had lost a dear friend, but Eris kept on fighting and living in the Hellmouth when easily she could have given up on life after she lost multiple people that she cared about. Suicide is not something people should do, and it is spoken against in the Bible. Eris clearly has morals, to help others, be humble, and not to commit suicide, and for the most part she sticks to those morals, But if these were just morals she decided herself without the help of God or the Bible, then how come she stuck to them even after so long in the Hellmouth?
Eris has also twice said to pray about something. Eriana-3 said she would butcher any who got in her way, and Eris said, “Pray it doesn’t come to that.” Eris also says in another piece of lore, “I pray my departure hasn’t created an irreparable fracture.”. I can see someone just saying, ‘let’s pray that doesn’t happen’ or something like that even if they don’t really mean you should pray about it. But Eris sounds more like she means it. She said to pray in a situation where her friend was willing to do something dangerous and violent, and she said to pray because she worries there will be a fracture between her and Ikora's friendship.
There is no definitive proof of either Eris or Drifter being Christians, no. But there are all sorts of little pieces of Christianly things or ways of being that build up and make the person look more and more like they really are Christian.
Thank you for reading, and once again, I do not wish to argue, but I am totally up for dicussions :)

thinking about the first crota fireteam and how crucial eris was to recruitment. the mission in itself was to avenge guardians lost to crota but there was a specific tint of focus toward avenging wei ning, something eris didn’t have much of a personal stake in aside from being a friend of her’s and eriana’s. and yet, she went on to recruit people who were obviously incredibly important to her; sai who seems to trust her with complete faith, vell who saved her life once and is willing to do it again, omar who only agreed to go because eris supports the cause, toland who she’d probably looked up to even in his exile, who has genuine faith in the mission despite everything.
and then, they die one by one and eris is entirely helpless to stop it. maybe it would be less bittersweet if they’d accomplished anything close to their original goal, if eris could come out of the hellmouth knowing her team’s deaths weren’t in vain. but they don’t, and they are, and everything was all in vain from the very beginning.
it’s interesting how eris emulates them, keeps them alive through herself. like sai, she trusts herself to carry out this insane hive ascension ritual with little concern for the personal risk. like vell, she adventures out into a hostile frozen wasteland and fights to protect others no matter the cost, even those she barely knows. like omar, she keeps talismans and charms and gives them to others who need reassurance, a reminder she’s in their corner. like toland, she’s the hive expert who still seeks to teach and mentor despite her more self-imposed solitude.
and of course, like eriana, her passionate love and craving for vengeance are constantly at war with one another. her sorrow, he guilt, her anguish over what she’s lost, competing with her desire to help, to mend, to protect what little she has left, to save a world she still somehow has faith in. the difference between them is that eris’ love will always win. she will not be led blindly into any pit again, not by her thirst for revenge, not by her despair, not by the darkness, not by the deep.

(continuation of this)
Free from the Pit, inchoate with hunger and cold and loneliness, Eris Morn accepted Savathûn’s revenge as a tolerable replacement for the fulfillment of her other needs. In her cocoon as Savathûn transformed her, Eris buried her face in the soft flesh of her own arm and told herself the Vanguard would have never permitted her to go home. Not after her team had broken the Lunar Interdict. Whatever ship she stole would have been shot down. Zavala’s duty and Cayde’s brinkmanship would have out-voted any sympathy Ikora held in her heart.
On top of this, Eris took Savathûn’s deal because, as a Guardian, she was predisposed to endure transformations to her body which came with better weapons.
On Savathûn’s hidden flagship, the newborn Hive god stepped from her cocoon. The cold floor shivered Eris’ clawed feet. Human skin reacted that way, so, she knew, she was still human. Savathûn looked down at her, clifflike, gray-green and glowing.
Not for years had Eris Morn felt so strong. Armies would move out of her way.
In the evening of her first day, she demanded writing materials. The thrall brought her a skin journal. It looked familiar. She lost a journal which was precious to her, once.
She wrote:
Have I taken my fate in my own hands? Or handed it more firmly over to another?
Savathûn says she will give me revenge. Says she desires the end of the Witness for her own reasons, as I desire it now for my own reasons: the loss of my friends, my fireteam. Neither Savathûn nor I have the Earth in the forefront of our minds any more. For her, it is a piece on a game board, a blockage in the millennia-long flow of the Hive streaming through the universe. For me, it is the place which happened to contain Eriana, Toland, Sai, Omar, Vell, Wei Ning.
I killed a room full of Dread today with my claws and my sword, to prove that I could. Their dried blood flecks my scales.
Death still waits for me. No Ghost and no worm protect me. In the distance, the Navigator marks me on his map. But revenge erases the perspective from my story. Revenge can be all-encompassing, universal, eternal. To become an avatar is to wear a new name and disregard “I.” If Oryx is the navigator, Eris Morn is vengeance.
So: let this pen change the universe. Let Savathûn kill the Witness with the new queen she has brought to the board. Aiat.
