Finally I’ve finished reading Rasputin’s Revenge and when I say it was wild from start to finish, like, Rex Stout levels of insane fanfic.

Major spoilers ahead, not too much about the actual plot but the links to the canon.

Holmes’ son, who was originally called Auguste Lupa (no idea where that name came from) is revealed to actually be called John Hamish Adler Holmes. In other words, he’s called John Holmes.

John.

Holmes.

So. Even in a forced heteronormative AU where Holmes and Irene Adler (NORTON) have a child, there’s still a slight sense of Johnlock? Interesting, very interesting. Almost like. It’s unavoidable. And an integral part to every Holmes story. I don’t know, maybe.

But here’s the insane bit.

Wondering why Rasputin wants revenge on Holmes’ son? Me too. For the entire book until the last ten pages where it’s revealed that Rasputin is Moriarty’s SON. ??????

We also get a nice bit of actual Holmes and Watson, and they’re surprisingly canon accurate considering Holmes is… straight. Another important bit is that they’re living in Sussex together. Again with the unavoidable Johnlock implications. Also, when sharing a hotel room, Holmes insists Watson sleeps on the couch and he’ll take a chair, and to be perfectly honest, if ACD wrote that, I would of course assume he was lying and Watson was covering up the fact that he and Holmes slept on the couch together but it wasn’t written by ACD so I’ll… try to ignore it. And, since that section includes an attempt at a heartfelt conversation between Holmes and his son about him being an absent father, it is probably important that Holmes isn’t spooning Watson (or vice versa).

Excuse the bad photograph but I complete forgot that I owned this pastiche (or, as I like to call it, glorified fanfic) so I’m starting to read it now.

I’m going to be perfectly honest, just the titles alone read like crackfics so naturally I’m very… intrigued.

And 400 days since I started to turn my favourite stories into a book collection.

Books, stories and art has many forms and all of them are worth celebrating.
