Transformers Reverse MiniBang 2024 : The Walls (And Something In Between)

Here is the monster of a fic that came out of a pinch-hit I took for the amazing artist @rubski02. They went above and beyond and were so helpful to me while I was writing this! I will share links to their artwork once it's available! My last piece for the @tf-bigbang will be broken into posting over several days due to size. I hope you enjoy Thundercracker/Bumblebee slow burn pining with a 30 year-spanning backdrop of the Earthspark universe.

Very excited for @chocolateisbrainfood ‘s wonderful fic of ES Bumblebee and Thundercracker to be released. They did an amazing job with the plot and characterisations and I highly recommend keeping an eye out for it !! TF Reverse Bang: Fic #1 Preview

I joined up for the Transformers Reverse Bang 2024, hosted by @tf-bigbang, and along with one art pairing, I also did two fics!

I was paired with @rubski02 and their beautiful artwork for an Earthspark Thundercracker/Bumblebee fic.

The title of the fic is "The Walls And Something In Between," where TC and Bee find common ground after the war comes to Earth, which leads to almost 30 years of bonding, pining, comic book propaganda-ing, soap opera binging, and them being regular travelers at Miss Communication Station.

Here's a little snippet:

The Walls And Something In Between (Preview)

A shrill whistle pierced through the otherwise quiet evening air. Bumblebee gasped in surprise, taking a few steps backward to brace himself. An alarm? He looks around. One of the machines was blinking red lights and screeching, but with all the different bits and bobs, Bumblebee’s not exactly sure what kind of machine it’s supposed to be. The sound is gone as quickly as it started, as if nothing happened at all. Maybe a timer? 

It took another few nanos –seconds, kliks, moments– for his spark to calm and his engine to settle. He vented out a sigh. That’s what he got for walking into a place that looked like what would happen if a human tried to build a communications hub from a dumpster behind a RadioShack.

 Aw scrap, he thought. That sounded a little too close for comfort…I better head back.

The dim light of the moon from the cave’s entrance disappeared and Bumblebee did not freeze in surprise. Instead, he spun around, blaster pulled, already thinking of what could be used as a shield or projectile that he’d seen along the cave’s walls. He was at a disadvantage, with little room for retreat. He had to think fast. The large shadow in front of him could take the chance to–

“I would have given you the tour, like a proper host, but you have familiarized yourself already, it seems.”

Could take the chance to snark me to death, I guess. 

“Thundercracker?” he called out, optics squinting as if he couldn’t quite believe the sight of him. His blaster did not lower. “What are you doing out here? No one’s seen you in months. We thought you’d offlined at Kings Canyon.”

Maybe he shouldn’t be that casual, but of all the possible threats to show up, Thundercracker was definitely the best option. He wasn’t the kind of Con who shot without thinking it through and never shot someone in the back. He was an all right bot. For a Decepticon. And no one had seen Thundercracker since the fight at the national reserve, long enough for even the Autobots to wonder.

“As you can tell, I am more than functioning and it is not my presence here that is unwarranted,” Thundercracker pointed out. “And you are in my way.”

The words did make Bumblebee tense and steady his blaster, but Thundercracker only sighed in a way that could have made Optimus Prime jealous and motioned with his free hand –he was holding crates with more electronics in them in the other– toward the square machine that had gone off earlier. “I need to check my molds.”

Bumblebee realized what the machine was. “You built a 3D printer?”

“Sometimes it is more efficient to turn the materials back into a solid form and remake their cases and parts from there instead of repairing them. The television gave me too much trouble the first time.”
