So during a meeting the question came up "is Meccano the same as Erector Sets?" and I had to look it up.

So Meccano started making a constructor set in 1901, in England, where metal strips are connected with other pieces using nuts and bolts. It was an important introduction to mechanical engineering for a lot of kids.

And in 1913, a construction set was launched in the US, called Erector. It similarly involved metal strips that could be connected together with nuts and bolts, and was an important introduction to mechanical engineering for a lot of kids.

So they're not the same, just similar toys in different countries.

Except, in 1990, Meccano purchased the Erector brand, and unified their toys. And both companies, now merged, were purchased by the Canadian toy company Spin Master (creators and owners by PAW Patrol) in 2013. They're still making Meccano in Europe, but Meccano sets in the US are sold as "Erector by Meccano", to tie back into the name brand better known in America.

Anyway, if you want to ask me "are you a boy or a girl?", this is the kind of answer I'd have to give you.

Más y más caídos, más y más tarea, OK (lo siento Scott, pero hay que hacerle sitio en página a Shane). Ahora es Shane McGowan el que se nos ha muerto a los 65. Nuestro borrachín favorito, fanático del punk rock y que lo vivió en primera línea, "poguero" descerebrado nº 1. Bueno, ese fue tal vez Sid Vicious, que además cuenta la leyenda que lo inventó él...

Años antes de que existieran The Pogues, el grupo por el que Shane pasará a la historia, cayó en mis manos "Chiswick Aquaria", que traía dos temas muy sencillos y muy buenos de unos tales The Nips, "Gabrielle" y "Vengeance". Un LP donde venían otras cosas estupendas (Textones, "Vacation"; Disguise, "Hey Baby"; Physicals, "Be Like Me"; Dan Kelleher, "I Couldn´t Help But Cry") y que aún conservo.

Los Nips resultaron ser el primer grupo de McGowan, bueno, el segundo porque antes eran los punkis Nipple Erectors, pero como Nips eran mejores. Tenían mejores canciones. La primera un medio tiempo pop, casi una lenta, en una onda no muy lejana a los que podían hacer en USA unos Rubinoos; la segunda más movida, que sonaba a unos Clash en popi minimalista o algo así.

Acabé viendo en una tienda el single de los Nips y, por supuesto, me lo compré.

If you have something that purports to be a Russian-made SS-27 ICBM on a road-mobile MAZ eight-axle transporter-erector-launcher in your musty basement, I want to see it. Luchesi can't tell it from a Hwasong-18 but I promise you I'll get right to the truth of it.
