Understanding MyoFascia
What is MyoFascia?
MyoFascia consists of two main elements:
Myo: means muscle, and means strength tissue.
Fascia: refers to the connective tissue, also known as temporal tissue.
The Key Concepts
Muscles and Fascia:
Contrary to popular belief, muscles do not contract independently; they create tension and the fascia.
Biomechanics:
Biomechanics is an explanation of the musculoskeletal system based on the physics of inert matter of dead tissue. This approach focuses on the structure and mechanical function of bones and muscles as separate and rigid entities.
The Living Tensegrity:
As opposed to traditional biomechanics, living tensegrity explains the forces that must coexist for animated movement to occur in living biological tissues. This concept is based on a dynamic and balanced interaction between the structural elements of the body.
Fasciategrity in Motion:
This term invites to understand the universal forces that are driven by our unique facial matrix. Each individual has a distinct facial configuration that influences the way forces manifest themselves and move throughout the body.
L'Importance du MyoFascia
The concept of MyoFascia is crucial for a holistic understanding of the human body. Rather than viewing muscles and fascias as separate elements, it is essential to view them as an integrated unit where tension and forces are distributed and modified to allow for smooth and coordinated movement.
This perspective can transform our approach to neuromuscular therapy and physical rehabilitation, focusing on restoring balance and functionality to living tissue.
The study of MyoFascia, integrating concepts of living tensegrity and fasciategrity in motion, offers a new dimension to understanding the mechanisms of movement and stability of the human body. It paves the way for innovative therapeutic approaches that take into account the interconnection and interdependence of muscle and facial tissue.

Contralateral Patterning One of the most amazing and beautiful things about walking is the crisscross pattern of arms and legs working together to move us. It is a patterning of movement and mastery… “Movement begins in our mother’s womb and we continue to master developmental movement patterns through our elementary years. As the movement scenarios become ingrained into our bodies, brains, and movement repertoires they are patterned into our fascia. These patterns are not all subtle, but rather quite fractal. They are reiterated over and over again in various systems of the body. We can see them in the hugely visible structures and the microscopic ones expressing the same order. Their geometric efficiency is tangibly displayed in all fascial structures. The accumulation of movement patterns reinforces and dynamically forges the tensegrity (tensional integrity) of the entire body.” -Melinda Cooksey Bekos MS, PhD I think I will be running next live zoom Course on arm lines and their connections through gait. Talk Garden Vol.14‼️~Everyone's Health Regimens Are Amazing! I Can't Handle The Recent Temperature Changes~
The temperatures in Tokyo suddenly dropped below 20℃ so I thought it was finally going to get cooler…but it was only for a moment. It seems to be going back up to warm temperatures around 25℃ 😅A temperature difference of about 10℃ between different days is rough in many ways😵‍💫I'm not sure what to wear *laughs*🧥
Hello, this is Wakana (0 ̄▽ ̄0)/
How is autumn approaching where you live? I feel that the plants in my house are growing a little slower, maybe because they've been freed from the heat of just a few weeks ago. It's a little sad, but some of them seem to be preparing for hibernation so I need to be more careful when watching over them🤔Watering them will become quite tricky from now on 😇I'll do my best!
Well! Today, I Vol.14 of my podcast "Wakana's Talk Garden" has been uploaded! \\\٩( 'ω' )و //// I received many submission about "Everyone's Rules of Healthy Living"! It made me realise how well you all take care of your health😳You didn't only talk about different diets, you also mentioned exercising, regular health checks, trying new things to deal with daily physical problems…I was really impressed by everyone's dedication to a healthy lifestyle!! 😭✨I got the impression that a lot of people ride bikes😊🚴In terms of food, many people try to prioritise vegetables🍅🍆🥒🥕🥦Basic health rules seem to be ingrained in all of you🤔That's amazing…✨
I'm trying my best too, but the fatigue of summer and the dryness of the sudden cold have made my voice a little nasal😓It may be hard to listen to but if you have some spare time, feel free to check out the latest episode. I forgot to mention it in the podcast but I wanted to introduce my recent favourite foam roller. I am using it every morning and evening for stretching 😉It's a small foam roller for myofascial release. Look at the cute colour and size. It's tiny compared to a regular-sized foam roller. It's light and easy to carry! It's small, but it can release myofascia just as well as a regular-sized one!
I've always loved this stretch ball, too. It's a great product that can be used on trigger points. (Trigger points are "hyperalgesic areas, which are where the pain-sensing sensors in the body have malfunctioned, causing constant pain.") Personally, I use it in areas that don't usually hurt but are prone to stiffness. The shoulder blades, collarbones, and especially glutes! My glutes are surprisingly stiff! (By the way, if you want to work on large muscles like your glutes or thighs, I recommend using a foam roller with a large surface area rather than a small ball 😊 The ball is best for small focus areas) I keep these items near my bed so I can use them before bedtime at night, I also keep them in my stretch corner or on the sofa *laughs* I use them whenever I notice stiffness. It's quite painful though… 😇
Thank you to everyone who sent in submissions this month! ! As for the little present for those whose message was read, please expect it to arrive in about a month. I'm sorry to keep you waiting but please be patient😅💦
So! For next month's talk theme I chose: "Everyone's Ideal Autumn Trip". I talked a little bit about it in the episode but last month I went on a trip to Nikko with my mother 🧳I was very excited to be able to visit the nostalgic Nikko Toshogu Shrine 😍It was my first trip in a while and I felt very refreshed. That's why I picked this travel topic for the next episode ♪
Please tell me about the places you want to go or have been to, and the kind of trips you want to take! ! \(^o^)/I will of course share photos and a travel diary of my trip to Nikko on my blog soon✏️
And last but not least! I also wanted to talk about the happy news that were announced last week! Next year, on January 15, 2025, we will hold a Kalafina live concert. After seven years, we have decided to sing together again as a trio. 17 years after our debut! We have been encouraged by the feelings of everyone who has always supported us throughout the years. For this reason, we want to stand with gratitude and pride on stage to convey our feelings to you that day. The concert is titled "Kalafina Anniversary LIVE 2025".
We look forward to seeing you at Tokyo Garden Theater next year. Please come and see us!!! \\\٩( 'ω' )و ////[Note: Unfortunately, Wakana doesn't really share anything specific about the upcoming live. She's bubbly as always when she makes the announcement but no further infos or thoughts are revealed]
All right, that's all for today! Until next time~☆( '▽')/

100% this! My PT and the EDS specialist I had momentarily banned me from stretching. They were like, "nothing in you needs to stretch. if it feels like it does, it's actually too stretched out and weak, and you need to strengthen it."
Recently I started to have pain from the back of my mid-thigh to behind my knee like I'm being stabbed after having to bend at the waist to do anything. I had similar pain when I did gymnastics that prevented me from being able to do the splits. Coaches always said I needed to stretch my hamstrings more. After all, I was a student who sat all day, so they must be shortened. So I tried. I could easily bend at the waist and touch the floor, palms flat, as folded as my stomach and chest would allow. No stretch. Just back of knee twinging.
Turns out, hamstring stretches are supposed to be felt in the top of the thigh into the butt. Back of the knee pain is nerve pain. The biceps femoris is pinching or rubbing against the sciatic nerve which runs between the two muscle segments. That muscle is what bends your knee. When you are hypermobile and your knees extend past 180 degrees, that muscle gets stretched any time you stand up straight. When you bend at the waist to do things like play with the dog, get laundry out of the machine, vacuum out the car, etc., your knees hyperextend even more because you need to counter-balance the weight of you upper body.
How do you make the pain go away? Strength training. A strong core and back to be able to support the weight of your upper body so you don't need to counter-balance as much, and strengthening the biceps femoris so that they are able to engage when you are upright to prevent the knee from over extending and thus prevent being stretched. Once they're strong enough to not be stretched out all the time, the sciatic nerve won't be as easily irritated.
Hypermobility without enough muscular strength can also cause widespread pain as the fascia tries to compensate to stabilize joints. It gets bunched in places and tight in others and generally causes pain. You can get myofascia release massage, foam roll, use a massage gun, etc. to temporarily relieve the pain, but as long as the muscles are too weak, it will return.
A friend of mine who is lucky enough to not have ME/CFS or exercise triggered MCAS took up powerlifting to manage her chronic pain. It started as a weight loss and fitness challenge with her husband, but she found the more strength training she did, the less pain she was in. She found out she has hEDS after joining a gym to learn to lift heavy safely, and the trainers there started noticing her joints were out of place as they taught her proper form and assisted her. Sometimes the exercise itself is what set the joint back by engaging the muscle that was connected to the too stretchy tissues that allowed the bone to slide from position. She was walking around with dislocated ribs and had no idea because she was just in pain everywhere with no physical trauma.
This is one of the big reasons that controlling my MCAS, finding out if something is wrong with my sleep, taking supplements to help my metabolic processes, and getting on more effective ADHD medications are really important to me. If exercise triggers my MCAS, then I'll be exhausted, unable to breathe, and have a constant migraine, so I still won't be able to do anything. If I'm not sleeping properly, then I'm doubling my causes of non-restorative sleep, and not healing or making up lost energy properly. ME/CFS causes my cells to go into anaerobic respiration too easily, so I'm not using fat stores properly, just glucose, and I'm producing less ATP than healthy people.
Supplements can hopefully improve oxygen transfer between cells so that I stay in an aerobic state longer, using both glucose and fat, and producing more ATP, and supplemental D-ribose allows me to produce some additional ATP without needing oxygen.
More effective ADHD medication (or an outsourced frontal lobe in the form of a cohabitating romantic partner, but only one of those things is purchasable at a pharmacy), would help me keep track of days and do routine tasks like short strength training sessions more frequently. I did get some ankle weights to put by my bed so I can slap those on to do some light weight leg curls while doing other things, but there is a limit to how much I can do from my bedroom versus needing to up the difficulty to further strengthen the muscle with real gym equipment.
If you have pain in your soft tissues and stretching doesn't help, look up strength exercises for that area. It's probably weakness that's the problem.
this is a friendly little post to say: if you find that doing stretches for wrist/shoulders/back/whatever either 1) don't help or 2) seem to make your pain worse, then please stop doing the stretches. the answer here is not to keep doing them becuase if you push through the pain eventually it'll get better, right?
listen to me. listen. stretches never did anything for me and at age 25 i learned i had hEDS, which meant 1) most stretches would never help me 2) depending on the stretch, could hurt me, so please. if they aren't helping. please do not keep doing them hoping that they will "eventually" help.
look into whether or not you have a hypermobility disorder or EDS or smth, great resource here: www.ehlers-danlos.com

The Gallbladder: the organ, referred pain, associated muscles, meridian and fascia
This organ is said to refer to the right side shoulder, but after that the consensus on referred pain seemed a little less clear. There are images and articles that show abdominal referral and posterior referral to a spot on the back. One doc I talked with used to refer to the abdomen as a “black box” in terms of its mysteries and pain.
On a parallel, there’s common agreement that popliteus is an associated muscle but after that there’s some discord.
Just sitting with this one for today… what movements benefit your gallbladder?

Myofascial release is a type of manual therapy that uses sustained, graded pressure and stretch on the fascia to release the tension and relieve the pain.
Myofascial release is mostly a hands-on therapeutic technique but it can also be done with elbows and other tools.  Myofascial release treatment is often used in combination with other therapies, such as exercise therapy, massage therapy, chiropractic care, or other physical therapy modalities.
Myofascial release is a safe and effective treatment for musculoskeletal pain. It can help improve your range of motion, reduce pain including creating significant positive impact in chronic musculoskeletal pain and increase your overall quality of life. If you are experiencing myofascial pain, talk to your myofascial  therapist near you.

Nice post about fascia and it’s importance in the human body, check @physioosteogram for more interesting stuff like that! 👌 ---- Fascia: Things to Know by @amnacademy 👍 ---- 👉As with many impactful revelations about the human body, when it comes to fascia things don’t work or look quite as we thought ---- 👉The uniform white sheets of connective tissue material which we see on cadavers in anatomy books are an extremely misleading representation of this 👉continuous, 👉chaotic, 👉electrical, and highly 👉hydrated tissue ---- 👉The structure of fascia works to distribute tension between millions of fibrils and the shapes created in between them. ---- 👉A perfectly coherent, local and global response to the challenges of movement in such a dynamic system as the body ----- #therapist #therapistlife #theraputic #physiotherapy #osteopathy #alternativemedicine #personaltrainers #personaltrainerlife #osteopath #chiropractor #myofascial #amnpractitioner #massagetherapy #massagetherapist #healthylivestyle #fascia #massage #physio #physiotherapist #earthing #pt #osteo #myofascia #myofascialmassage #myofascialpain #bioelectricity #connectivetissuedisease #connectivetissue #skintherapist #fasciablaster #massage (hier: London, United Kingdom)

Gallbladder detail and the lateral fascia of the cranium. Added in the paired Triple Warmer channel that runs from fourth finger to edge of eyebrow. What’s going on here? So many zigs and zags! Almost looks like an antenna spiraling  around your ear. It also connects eyes and ears which are of course intimately linked. What happens when we anterior tilt the cranium and still look to the horizon? And it’s polar opposite posterior tilt? Andrew Huberman discusses focus with narrow and expansive related to sympathetic and parasympathetic.

Trigger Points
Tumblr media
Trigger points are naturally distributed across our bodies; however, it is only when they become irritable and we start to experience pain or discomfort that we notice them!
These points are palpable nodules of taught muscle fibres which develop through muscular overload, imbalance, trauma or injury. They can result in the referral of pain to different areas of the body; did you know that we can experience headaches, facial and jaw pain from active trigger points in our trapezius muscle? Treatment includes the application of pressure as well as a variety of exercises and stretches to target and relieve areas of muscle tightness and spasm.

With today's #myofascia or #myofascial soft tissue manipulations such #myofascialrelease and #myofascialreleasetherapy , we are just scratching the surface (literally ;-) ) as we start to unravel the mysteries and the true nature of the inticate and miraculous web that has been to date referred to as #fascia. In 20 years I have learned to stop trying to "force" the muscles and fascia but rather close my eyes and "listen" to the fascia's story with my fingers and follow the tension to its source/s (physically and emotionally/pyschologically). I am very pleased that the #thesecretlifeoffascia is coming out at the end of this year. Here is the link to the preview: https://vimeo.com/271617202 Please enjoy and pass along to people you know who are suffering and in pain.
