The five most powerful individuals of Earth’s non-human world in my Psychonauts au. These are the Natural Consequences.

Also called the High Lares, these incredibly influential individuals became famous through regular feats of immense strength, and the aftermaths of such feats, that elevated them above their fellow Lares.

Every Lar gains a customary title including the name of an Earth deity, but only the most terrifying ever gain the special title that marks them a Natural Consequence. These special titles are given when an individual is so powerful that their abilities trigger natural disasters.

Not only are these titles meant to honor the Lares that carry them, but they serve as a reminder to everyone that these individuals do not fight unless the consequences are worth it.

Currently, there are 5 High Lares. Their Lar titles, with Natural Consequence titles in parentheses, are:

The Dionysus (The Hurricane)

The Morrígan (The Tornado)

The Chantico (The Eruption or The Volcanic Eruption)

The Epona (The Flood)

was refreshing myself on some old myth for a bit and i read the french and english wiki page for the Charybdis' mythos, and i'm noticing something that i don't know if it's just the wiki being inaccurate or an actual difference (from the linguistic page it seems to be an actual difference) but

In English there's this expression about choosing between two equally bad horrible situations by saying "choosing between Scylla and Charybdis"

But in French the expression is "to fall from Charybdis to Scylla" and instead of a choice it's about managing to get out of a horrible situation only to get thrown into an even worse situation (the equivalent of the English's expression ""falling out of the frying pan into the fire")

if i believe the linguistic page there was a bit of borrowing around and technically both expressions are used in both language, but you're more likely to find the first one in English and the second one in French (very likely because Victor Hugo popularized "to fall from Charybdis to Scylla" with Les Misérables) (does not mean it started in French the origin of the expression is still Greek anyway, just talking about why the saying is more popular in French with weirdos like me)

idk i think it's cool on a sort of metatextual perspective that English People saw this myth and when "oof imagine picking between those two" while French people just chugged a bottle of wine and went "And it's a BINGO and LIFE SUCKS and it NEVER GETS EASIER you get BOTH OF THEM BABEYYY"

husband!simon riley who ABSOLUTELY adores it when you wear his camo hoodie that has his last name 'RILEY' splayed on the back of it. the way the hoodie falls to your knees because the man is built like a tank and his clothes, especially this hoodie, proves it.

husband!simon riley who not only wears his wedding band, but tattooed your initials on his ring finger. he understands the wedding band is already a symbol but "love, i need something permanent."

husband!simon riley who rarely brings work home. he's completely different on base or on missions. he's a killer, a strategic soldier who completes his missions and does it effortlessly. but when he comes home, he's just your simon. he is your husband, a man deeply in love and devoted to you. he doesn't like to talk about his missions. he doesn't want you to worry. he would much rather whisper sweet words in your ear as his face is nuzzled perfectly between your shoulder and neck.

husband!simon riley who loves touching you. when you're cooking, he wraps his muscular arms from behind around your waist. when you're lounging on the couch, he has his large hand on your thigh, massaging and appreciating the softness. when you're fast asleep, he makes sure to move closer, running his fingers through your hair being careful not to tangle or damage it during the process. he thinks being able to touch you is an honor. it grounds him knowing that you're real.

On a whim, I put on "The Residence" while I ate dinner tonight. It's a murder mystery taking place in the whitehouse. The MC is a detective named Cordelia Cupp:

And I am in LOVE with her first of all, she spends half the show looking for/at birds or thinking about birdwatching (I LOVE HER), while solving the crime.

She is followed around by Park

Who is assigned to her to help her (he is not very helpful)

I thought the victim would be the president, but it's not- the president and his husband are also characters, along with the australian prime minister and his foreign minister, because this is all taking place during a State Dinner with the australian government in attendance as the guests of honor. I don't want to spoil anything else, but I think Tumblr would really appreciate the chef even though I CANNOT find a good enough image of her to encapsulate her raw energy.

Anyway, I have excellent taste and so far this show has been a DELIGHT so if you have some time, go watch!

Last reblog reminded me of the time I saw people* on reddit get mad (not like super mad, but kinda snarky) at a Dutch-American for saying that they named their kid Holland because that's where their ancestors were from. Like...I think the brave people of Holland will survive this hardship (person on another continent sharing the name of their home), actually.
