Badminton Special P1

Because @emvisc inspired me whilst I was watching Badders highlights and I was procrastinating revision, I decided to write a little 4 part Badminton special leading off of Making The Distance: 'I'm actually going to die,' Yuri lamented as he took in the steep undulations of The Quarry. Yuuri was too intimidated by the fences to give him any consolations. Even Otabek was silent as he dropped off the end of the step with a resonating thud. The ground was solid thanks to a full few days of sun, but the ground was well-kempt and would be just fine to ride on. Yuri had started off with a disappointing dressage on paper, but there had been vast improvements and Victor had actually congratulated him for the first time ever with a pat on the back when he'd returned from his test with a huge grin plastered over his face. Otabek had ridden a very consistent and well-presented test for a respectable 63%, but he hadn't mentioned this to anybody. Yuri, however, had been crowing nonstop about his almost 10% improvement. It was great to see him proud, but he seemed to be forgetting that there were still two days left and he had to get through this monstrous cross country course. 'You'll never make the time,' Victor told Yuri helpfully, scuffing his feet against the dirt takeoff with his hands delved into his pockets. 'Never mind that the course is too big for your glorified bog pony.' Victor was still bitter that Yuri hadn't taken up on his offer of being bought a top event that had won countless 1* 2* internationals. 'My glorified bog pony has beaten your brainless bimbo in competition,' Yuri reminded him with a smirk. 'And she's going to do great tomorrow, just you wait.' 'Concentrate on walking the course, idiot,' Yuuri ordered, not wanting him to miss a single detail so that he was less likely to be catapulted from the saddle. Yuri grimaced and they continued with their rounds. There wasn't a single break fence- they were all monumental and constructed with the sole purpose of catching either horse or rider out, or the pair of them alike. Even the gallops in between you could be finished equally by the length or the varying gradients of the terrain that threatened to send the horse skidding. Yuuri was unspeakably relieved that he had never been bitten by the eventing bug. It was fun to watch (when it was going well) but he would never be brave enough to tackle a course of this height and expertise. It was no wonder that Yuri was the youngest rider round the course at 16- he was beating an almost 50 year old record, and there had been plenty of coverage already. He'd already stunned the world by winning and placing at several legs of the Longines World Cup, but this was even more exciting. The crowd had been buzzing for his dressage the day before, especially since he was also on the smallest horse to ever hit the course. At 14.3hh, Fluffy broke the record by one inch. Just being there had already put one record in the bag for them. Yuri lost concentration halfway round the course and instead demanded that Otabek give him a piggyback, which he did without protest. At least he pointed out distances to him and could impart some of his knowledge from years of experience and watching Badminton religiously. It was easy to forget that Otabek was only 19 himself and was amongst the youngest of riders at Badminton. He was riding a 16.2hh, however, so he at least had a horse that wasn't half the size of most of the fences. At the end of the course Yuri decided to clamber onto the jump for a commemorative picture and Victor suddenly got all quiet. 'Still thinking about me blanking you when you wanted a picture that one time?' Yuuri whispered in his ear with a vindication that was mostly humorous. 'To be fair, you had stripteased me the night before. I thought we were at least friends.' 'How about you never mention that again?' 'If you never mention the picture again.' 'It's a deal.' 'While your marital disputes are great, can we go now?' Yuri barged in between them to prevent them beginning to make eyes at each other. He didn't trust them not to start eating each other's faces if he left them a moment longer and he had been witness to that phenomenon far too many times. 'I want to go do some shopping.'

Wasn’t it amazing when Viktor changed his final pose for his free skate at the gpf in @kazliin‘s latest chaper to Chris throwing him a huge sign declaring how gay he is for his rival? tbh he might as well have done Yuuri u blind sod did u know its rude to leave while someone is confessing their love for u through interpretive dance???????
