The transition in Iron Flame from “I need to know you won’t run, that you know you’ll never have to” into “Me. You should be scared of me” is devastating on so many levels because Xaden was so afraid of losing Violet and now what he’s become to save her is what he believes will drive her away.

SPOILER EXCERPT ONYX STORM (Edit: not really a spoiler anymore bc RY herself posted the excerpt on her Insta

"The power grows, vibrating inside me with an unrelenting demand, and I raise my right hand, pointing my palm to the sky in the open amphitheater.

Xaden disappears behind me a second before I release the strike. Light explodes, illuminating the arena as bolts of energy tear through the air, crossing the barrier of protections and hitting the clouds above. I hear a collective gasp from the other cadets before darkness imposes itself again.

'You're incredible, he says, already blending into the shadows.

'Why just me?' I ask, turning and trying to find him.

'You need to be able to find me. The shadows slide over my skin, and less than a second later, they disappear, leaving me staggering near the front of the mat, watching Xaden move away as he climbs the stairs.

'Why me?' I repeat, aware of the gazes of the other cadets studying me, searching for some sign, since Xaden came out unscathed. 'Xaden!'

He doesn't even pause his ascent. 'Because you are the only one capable of killing me."

While Thunderbolt would be my dragon if I existed in HOTD, I like to think that if I existed in this fantasy series, I would be bonded to a blue dragon, specifically a Blue Morningstartail!😁🔥🐲💙🏰⚔️

I've given him the name Saphir (suh-feer) which means "Sapphire" in Scottish Gaelic. I imagine him to be larger than Sgaeyl, but smaller than Tairn, with purplish-blue coloring and scales that shimmer like sapphire gemstones. Complete with glowing, golden-yellow eyes, obsidian-black horns, and a wickedly dangerous morningstartail, my dragon is truly a force to be reckoned with! My Saphir is as beautiful as he is powerful!

it just keeps getting funnier how tairn keeps reaching record-breaking levels of single dad energy

i'm barely on chapter 20 but his life up to this point has pretty much consisted of:

"I just put the baby down for a nap!!"

threatening the school principal for trying to murder picking on violet

"DON'T WAKE THE BABY!!"

very short date nights once a week with sgaeyl where i'm sure too much time is wasted catching up on all the kids

keeping violet from breaking her neck with extreme gymnastics
