If I existed in this book series, I believe I would be chosen by a Blue Morningstartail (I came to this conclusion by taking several online quizzes and using a TikTok filter lol). I was ecstatic to receive this particular dragon, because being a Blue Morningstartail means they are basically a perfect combination of both Sgaeyl and Tairn!

I imagine them to be a large male, bigger than Sgaeyl but smaller than Tairn, with gorgeous, vibrant blue scales that would resemble sapphire gemstones. I think the perfect name for him would be Saphir, which means "Sapphire" in Scottish Gaelic.

After getting my result, my parents and sister also took the quiz to find out what kind of dragons they would have. Turns out my Mom would be chosen by a Black Swordtail (just like General Melgren's dragon, Codagh), my Dad would have a Brown Swordtail (like Ridoc's dragon, Aotrom), and my sister would have a Red Morningstartail.

I find their results quite interesting. Both my parents got Swordtails, while my sister and I both got Morningstartails, but my favorite color is red, while hers is blue.

I'm proud to have been "chosen" by a blue dragon, specifically a Blue Morningstartail! I wasn't expecting to get a blue dragon, but I'm certainly not disappointed with my result! They are the second rarest color besides black and nearly as large in size~😎🔥🐲💙

I decided that the first blue dragon the filter landed on would reveal the type of blue dragon that I would have. I'm so happy it landed on a Morningstartail (my favorite of the tail types)!

Making this one for the blue's was actually difficult, i had so much intel on sgaeyl and Xaden that i didn't know how to lay it out on the spread but i got there eventually.

Do however note in case it's not obvious, I've only put the "important" known dragons on here. There are a handful of blues stationed near the borders as in they're currently active. But they do seem rare 👀 🩵

AU day...this one requires a lot more explanation. It will get long, so I'll put it under a read more. But the gist is, this is an AU where Meg (my s/i) and Adam are Dragon Riders in the world of Fourth Wing/The Empyrean saga. My second-favorite book series...and since I'm reading book 3 (Onyx Storm) right now I was really in the mood to share this AU.

Those unaware: It's a story that takes place in a very military setting where Dragon Riders are among the military ranks and go through a school of sorts to graduate and join the fight outside their walls. Except it's a school where death is very common, since the idea is to weed out the weakest cadets to strengthen the team. Brutal stuff, but it has dragons, gryphons, hard life lessons, and lots of twists and turns, and the main character is a strong female lead the likes of Mulan from the Disney movie (the classic animated one).

Hazbin Hotel Empyrean AU:

The AU is NOT a retelling of Fourth Wing. Yes, Meg and Adam have a black Morningstartail and a blue daggertail respectively, but it's because it's an alternate timeline from the books. Meg's dragon's name is Deala, and Adam's is Neacha. They ARE mates, but that's because the bond thing is so fun I wanted to include it.

As for the world, Heaven is Navarre (the Dragon Rider country) and Hell is Poromiel (the Gryphon Flier country). I know Hell has a lot of death in it, but hear me out. Dragons have been shown throughout the book series to be the superior species of the two:

They are the ones that cause magic to exist on the continent

They are built for higher altitudes

Their armor is so strong a gryphon can't penetrate it easily

Their firebreath will incinerate you in seconds

Sounds like angelic steel weapons, and the altitude levels means Navarre is higher up than Poromiel like Heaven is higher than Hell. Plus (spoilers to Fourth Wing below!)

The Venin (dark magic wielders) are a major threat to Poromiel when it's revealed they (the Venin) exist. Hell is a lot more threatened by danger to them than Heaven is too, so it fits.

So the Dragon Riders are the angels, the Gryphon Fliers are the demons, except all the characters are human. I'll share my notes for the AU in a future post, but for now this is the disorganized preview.

while she is the daughter of fen riorson and talia riorson, she was only a couple months old when her mother left.

jeremiah is only one of many that have been ended by the hands of professor carr for being an inntinnsic. echo, at the age of seven, witnessed her father kill someone for being one. it's a fear she grew up with, deep rooted into every fibre of her being, so when she herself manifested the ability to hear people's thoughts, she was immediately terrified. choosing to confide in professor devera ultimately saved her life as she was snuck out of basgiath the very next day and taken to aretia.

it soon spread that professor carr's daughter was killed by falling off her dragon. dìomhair, her blue morningstartail, also went into hiding, choosing to stay within the vale. distance is a struggle for both, though often stay in contact through their mental bond. as she got older, a hatred of her father and the institution of basgiath itself festered, twisting her into a lonely and angry person. while she cannot change what she is, she has come to learn how to hide that part of herself. if anyone found out, she would surely join the never ending list of those who came before.

au. rider of the winged shadow (empyrean i)

history

an old, noble house, the targaryens originally hailed from an island lost to history, beyond, even, the known world : valyria. however, following a dream, the founders of the house fled from the island nation, settling in, depending on plotting a) westeros, a province bordering luceras and calldyr to the far west or b) luceras. in valyria, rich and vibrant magics ruled, based in schools of fire and blood. it was a mighty place . . . until the venin came, robbing it of all life, of all magic. the island fell. on the continent, the targaryens quickly established themselves as nobles and were a part of a generation following the the first riders. the first recorded bonded dragon was a black swordtail by the name of balerion, the second was a brown, shining bronze, morningstartail named vhagar, and the third an incredibly pale blue daggertail, nearly silver, called meraxes. there has always been a strangely powerful connection between the targaryens and their dragons, and the first sign of this resulted in the production of two swords, forged by folded steel, dragonfire, and blood. these swords, blackfyre and dark sister, were wielded by aegon and visenya, and they have some sort of trace alloy core. it is these swords that have been passed from rider to rider of the house.

since that first bonding, the targaryens effectively worshiped the dragons as a whole, particularly those who bonded with their family, even going so far as to carve a fortress, totally fashioned after dragons into the smoking face of a mountain ——— with the help of their dragons (and the blood sorcery of their ancestors), of course. the citadel, they called dragonstone, and behind it, the volcano was deemed the dragonmont. this home, located on an island off the coast of the province, was the favored home of the targaryens, more beloved than the red keep in the heart of their realm. for generations, the targaryens have been respected for their strategic battle prowess and have even introduced famed and legendary riders to the world. however, in their long, unbroken line, there have been some scandals, such as familial conflicts fought with fire, ending in blood and multiple incidents of the forbidden act of dragons bonding with direct descendants. in some cases, the bonding was successful . . . in others, it brewed madness, leading to the whispers of ‘targaryen madness’. some targaryens have rejected the notion of bonding, hating how such power could only be gifted by a dragon’s grace (and could not be fully possessed as their own). some sought other ways to seize such power. some pursued means of bending the will of dragons to their own.

a point of note: for generations, it was the tradition for the head of the house to be a rider. however, as centralized governing bodies took form on the continent, inquiries were launched into the house. why was every targaryen conflict such a bloody and destructive affair? why did the targaryens fight so viciously among themselves? when the dragons danced, the realm bled, and its people were the ones who suffered. and . . . why did dragons linked to the house continue to bond so faithfully with direct descendants? the targaryens were a proud house that sneered at any power that dared to bend their will; after all, it was said that targaryens, like their dragons, answered to neither gods nor men. and theirs was a house of riders, what a dangerous thing. sanctions were placed upon the targaryens that eventually forced their hand, making it unacceptable for leaders and heirs of the house to be riders. and, as the years went on and the targaryens continued their assimilation to the navarrian ways, fewer and fewer targaryens bonded with dragons, preferring infantry service or cushy noble life.

twenty-two years prior to the series . . .

the near complete destruction of house targaryen came at duke aerys targaryen's command. upon a stone throne carved in a dragon's likeness, with bloodshot eyes and crimson veins protruding from his temples, and draped in purple robes, he ordered the mounted lesser nobility in his lands to their family’s keep and effectively ordered that their dragons be surrendered to him. appalled, they all laughed in his face . . . this is when he unleashed the wyvern and venin upon them. over the course of a few months, dragonstone was under siege.

by the end, aerys lay dead. rhaegar, a living legend, who attempted to stop his father, was betrayed and killed by a rival, his wife and children suffering the same fate. rhaella died during the siege giving her daughter life. in fear of what would become of viserys and the newborn daenerys, friends of the family spirited the children away, moving them around and around and around. the ruling of their province was given to a friend of the navarrian crown: robert baratheon, who crushed the house beneath his warhammer. in the meantime, the last of the targaryens moved throughout navarre and poromiel alike, flying on a paranoid brother’s whim, even during the period of the tyrrish rebellion.

when daenerys was sixteen, viserys vowed that he was going to take revenge for what happened to their family, and essentially dragged her toward basgiath as chaos devoured the kingdom. during this time, he’d become frenzied and deeply erratic in his behaviors; his hands shook more and more, his eyes, moist and flickering, were oft bloodshot. as they grew closer and closer to the grounds surrounding basgiath, she tried harder and harder to dissuade him from his plan, knowing that it meant sure death. a struggle ensued when he pulled dark sister on her, and in the skirmish, the sword plunged into his heart, leaving her as the last of the targaryens. the last of the last.

following a rather piecemeal commendation of his soul to malek, daenerys gathered up dark sister and wandered for days . . . before she was discovered by retired infantry colonel barristan selmy, who once served daenerys’ father and greatly admired and even fought beside rhaegar. he brought daenerys to basgiath, protected her, listened to her when she began to have dragon dreams, which led her to embrace the thought of attending the war college. with that aspiration set, nothing could stop her, and she began her training.

elide - female green clubtail named anneith (yes like the tog series, meaning wise one). green dragons are known to be keen and rational. elide broke her leg in threshing after fending off several classmates who held grudges against marked children. she fell in front of anneith and remembered one should never back down from a green. she stood and told the dragon she would burn on her feet rather than die on the ground and to her surprise, the dragon did not reject her, obviously impressed by her bravery.

morgan - male black daggertail named maredudd or mar (welsh for great lord). black dragons are known to be killing machines and morgan bonded with one of two black dragons from her year.

clove - female red scorpiontail named thyra (norse for thor's fight/deity/warrior). red scorpiontails are known to be quick to temper. despite clove's small size, her dragon was one of the largest and fiercest bonded her year.

annie - male blue morningstartail named kaimbe or kai for short (kaimbe is frisian/german for warrior and kai can mean water in hawaiian). though on the rarer side, the blue morningstars are known for being unpredictable, which proves to be especially true when annie's mind reading signet manifests. kai is on the smaller side and is especially useful in stealth/speed missions.
