Funny modern au shit again 🙏
Regulus: Oh, my brother said he can come and get me so I'll be fine to get home on my own. He should be here any second now.
Pandora: Oh it's so sweet that you two are finally reconnecting. We'd love to meet him!
Sirius, pulling up on his motorbike like a textbook androgynous rockstar and climbing off to come and hug him: Hey Reggie! Good to see you.
Regulus: Hello, thanks for coming to get me.
Barty: ......That's your brother?
Regulus: Yes?
Sirius: Hey guys!
Dorcas: JESUS FUCK
Regulus: Um, okay. Can you all stop being weird? It's just my brother.
Evan: Reggie, there is no way you, mr-I-must-order-my-socks-by-brand-and-fabric, are related to THAT.
Sirius, nodding with an arm around Reg's shoulder: I say the same thing to myself every day...
Regulus: >:(

oh how i love the chaotic, unruly, and menace to society barty crouch jr. but how i also love the quiet yet calculated, sharp witted, teacher’s pet barty crouch jr.
the one who knew the art of manipulation while watching his father manipulate himself to the top of the wizengamot. the one who was still funny and a menace to soiety but could get away will all of the things he had done because “perfect barty crouch jr. who always gets Os in his card would never do that.”
not to mention that he would have joined the “politics” at hogwarts as well… he may hate his father to his core but at the end of the day he is still his father’s son. he does everything he can so that he can be a prefect (and hopefully become headboy) so that he can do his own biddings whenever he likes and not get any consequences for any of them because it was easier to cover up your “crimes” when you’re in a position of power.

Playing one of the old Jake and the Never Land Pirates games on Flashpoint made me realize that the game, Journey Beyond the Never Seas, makes a better finale to the show than the actual final episode.

“Being back with my team helps, even though things aren’t the same. Ren and Nora have their own thing they’re working through, and I’m not the same boy they knew. I’m the Rusted Knight. Nora loves reminding people of that, by the way.”

Saga Emerald Beyond's tutorials are overcomplicated, so I'm testing whether I can explain the classes and techniques in a less confusing way. Please let me know if this makes sense.
Overview
Most of the techniques you use in combat can be described as weapon techniques, spell techniques, or relic techniques.
More rarely, there are mech techniques, ephemeral techniques, blood techniques, and soul techniques.
Not In This Guide
There are stats like strength and acuity, but I won't discuss them because this is complicated enough already. I will discuss how the mech and ephemeral classes interact with them.
Weapon Techniques/Kugutsu Part 1
Humanoids, meaning every class except monster and mech, learn weapon techniques. They can be subdivided into one-handed melee, two-handed melee, one-handed ranged, two-handed ranged, and martial arts, each of which has a different stat for how good you are at using them.
Yes, I'm counting martial arts as a weapon technique. Shut up.
Characters start with at least one weapon technique of each class. Using direct offensive techniques teaches you more of them, e.g. repeatedly punching teaches you to kick. Other techniques are learned situationally, e.g. if you repeatedly get attacked while holding a weapon that can parry, you'll eventually learn to parry.
The skills you learn later on can be sub-subdivided. E.g. an axe is a one-handed melee weapon, but using one can teach you moves that can only be used with an axe, not a sword. Thankfully, there's no specific axe substat--you just use the one-handed stat for damage.
There's a class called kugutsu that can't learn weapon techniques just by using the weapon. They have to watch other characters use the weapon in order to mimic them.
Spell Techniques
Every class except mech and squire can learn spells.
(Squires aren't mentioned elsewhere in the tutorials, so I'm not sure what their deal is.)
Spell techniques can be temporarily learned from equipment, and lost when the equipment is removed. Most characters don't start with spells, so they need an item to get them started.
Although spells have a single spell stat that improves as you repeatedly cast, they also have five elemental stats that, as far as I can tell, never improve at all.
Repeatedly casting a spell permanently teaches you other spells of the same element. You learn these spells faster if your element stat is high.
Relic Techniques/Monsters
Monster and mech classes use relic techniques. Some of the humanoid classes can use them too--it's pretty random.
Relics are equipment. They start out empty, but each can be filled with a relic technique if their user gets the killing blow on a monster-type enemy that uses that technique.
Each monster-type enemy has multiple techniques, and it seems to be random which one you learn.
If you're full up, you can "unleash" a relic technique in combat to remove it from the relic and make room for a new one.
Monsters have a permanent, unremovable relic technique to get them started. Other than that, you can't permanently learn relic techniques.
Monsters can't equip weapons or armor, only relics or accessories.
Mech Techniques/Mechs
Mech is the only class that uses these.
Every equippable item has a technique attached to it. Equipping it to a mech temporarily teaches the technique.
Mech techniques cannot be learned permanently, except for one permanent technique you start with.
Mech techniques that can attack are divided into melee and ranged, which have separate stats for your skill at using them. Mechs don't care about the one-handed or two-handed distinction.
Armor and accessories have techniques that give temporary buffs. These techniques have no associated stat.
Mechs can never permanently improve stats like strength or acuity, only stats associated with techniques.
Mechs can put any equipment in any equipment slot. There's nothing stopping you from giving them six weapons at once.
Ephemeral Techniques/Ephemerals
Some ephemerals are monsters. Others are humanoids.
Remember those stats like strength and acuity? Ephemerals get temporary bonuses to most of them as they survive more battles. These bonuses are accompanied by title changes, starting at juvenile and ending at elder.
However, title changes temporarily reduce endurance and max life points.
When an ephemeral's life points hit 0, they drop down to juvenile again, but get small permanent stat boosts and permanently learn some ephemeral techniques. The higher their title was, the better the gains. Gains stack as they repeatedly fall in battle, so make sure to endanger your elders!
Ephemeral techniques have no associated stat.
Blood Techniques/Vampires
Vampires are humanoids. Everything I know about them is from tutorials.
By defeating humanoid enemies, they improve their blood techniques.
Defeated humanoid enemies become new party members called thralls.
There's special equipment you can give to thralls to turn them into knights, which can use blood techniques.
If you remove a knight's special equipment, they permanently turn into a wastrel, which has 1 max life point and can never learn any more techniques of any kind.
Yes, this all sounds pretty evil.
Soul Techniques/Kugutsu part 2
Kugutsu learn something called soul techniques.
I know absolutely nothing about how these work.

It's been a little while since I kept up on the updates for EmBe! But! EMILY! She is so pretty! I'm so curious about her! It sounds like she's mainly from Bonny and Formina's route, but I wonder if she'll be relevant to Diva's route since she's a singer?
Tumblr media
Speaking of Bonnie and Formina! (Bonny? Bonnie? I forget lol.) I wonder why all of these cats are relevant, especially when it's Ameya's route where we collect cats? I wonder how inter-connected the stories are. And what did Kawazu mean by saying he wanted them to be like Balmaint and Arthur...!? (Which is which!? I'm nervous!)
Tumblr media
I looked at his Japanese name and realized the localization didn't just make a random reference. Hard to say if the name is just a fun cameo, or if the character really will be a direct reference to RS2 and the Final Emperor! (More intriguing that he looks like Emperor SaGa's Silver Emperor in color scheme, but his overall design is a reference to none of them.)
Tumblr media
I thought this gal was a Blue Witch, but she looked like the girl from Neil's playthrough that was trying to revive her lord? I can't recall if she was summoning Siugnas or someone else either. Hmmm.

...you do realize you can blow a huge hole in the "Gerald based Shadow's design on the Super Sonic figure in the Hidden Palace mural" theory by saying it would still fit even if Gerald had based Shadow's design on the Eggman figure, right?
Not to mention, he had no good reason to believe it concerned the Chaos Emeralds as a whole when only the Master Emerald was depicted.
I emphasize this because the only thing we know which links every area of Gerald's research, which the games have confirmed, are the Chaos Emeralds.
Tumblr media
Even assuming he saw the mural in person (which is in and of itself a big assumption due to the logistics involved in even getting to Hidden Palace; couldn't he have simply read about it instead, like how he read research papers about the Emeralds?)...
...what if he had committed the mistake of misinterpreting the mural? What if the Super Sonic figure as depicted by the echidnas had turned out to be a force for destruction like Perfect Chaos?
Considering how fastidious he once was about creating anything that could be turned into a weapon of mass destruction, it strikes me as vaguely OOC to assume he looked at the Super Sonic figure and went "yep, he's the good guy. let's use him as a base for our highly clandestine, difficult, resource-expensive, morally dubious immortality research"

Note
What does the Unleashed Bad End AU version of Super Sonic look like?
(I love the idea of a Super Werehog, please give me Super Werehog)
The chaos emeralds in this au are kinda. Gone lmao
I mean they still exist but they separated from sonic after the fight with dark gaia and fucked off to who-knows-where. No one really know where they are and sonic can't really feel them anymore. The world's energy balance is out of wack and the dark gaia energy drowns out everything else, including chaos energy
I was thinking of a more peaceful end to this au's story anyway so no super werehog. Sorry

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror turns 20 today. I drew a little something to commemorate it.
Tumblr media
Sentimental old person rambling under the cut.
Amazing Mirror is my favorite video game, and it is one of my earliest video game memories. I played it before my sister was born, and before I could even READ. I distinctly remember calling it "Rock Hat Game" (referring to the stone ability) before my mother corrected me. For those unaware, the unique thing about this Kirby game is that the game lets you explore the Mirror World and beat the bosses in whichever order you want. This game was full of mystery to me as a child. This was before I had internet so I couldn't just look anything up. I was always wondering what I would find next. I spent HOURS trying to find rooms I hadn't been in yet, believing they held the most incredible secrets (a child's imagination is very powerful.) I believe I got my first glimpses of the final boss when I was around five or six years old. I remember Dark Meta Knight frightened me because of how fast he moved, but I loved the music that played when you fought him, so I'd leave the game paused just to hear it (too frightened to unpause it or else Dark Meta Knight would whoop my ass lol. Does anyone else remember holding the GBA speaker up to your ear to hear the music? I remember listening to the Candy Constellation theme like this.) Something this game is infamous for are the NUMEROUS times you have to beat the final boss, Dark Mind. I managed to get to his second-to-last phase, the giant eye, when I was six or seven or so. If I had to beat his first form four times, I wondered just how far it would go. I distinctly remember having a dream that some sort of mouse boss emerged from the eye (funnily enough, I got Squeak Squad for Christmas when I was nine.) I beat Amazing Mirror when I was eight years old. It was a Friday afternoon, and I was so excited to finally beat the game that my legs went numb lol. Fast forward a little to when I was twelve or so, I started trying to get 100% completion. This involves entering every room and getting every treasure. I know this game like the back of my hand now. When I was thirteen, I wanted to see how quickly I could beat it after watching speedruns. I can beat it 100% pretty quickly now. It's a game I like to play for my friends because I can beat it quickly and without dying.
The drawing above hardly begins to fully encapsulate how much I love the game, and I struggled trying to think of a drawing that could truly show my appreciation. In the end, I went for something rather simple. Emerald is my favorite spray paint color, but if you asked younger-me, I would have answered "Ocean." I was totally obsessed with finding all the spray paint colors, and I remember turning the game off and on to switch the colors to see how they'd look with the UFO ability. If anyone has read this far, tell me what your favorite spray paint color in Amazing Mirror is in the tags if you'd like! Also, the level backgrounds are absolutely beautiful in this game. They look like paintings, and I wonder if any high quality, non-GBA-compressed versions exist. The light blue Peppermint Palace background is my favorite (it's also my header.) Let me know what your favorite level and/or level background is as well. I'm gonna wrap this up because I've went on for too long blurting my guts out over a GBA game. I still feel like I've barely scratched the surface about all I love about this game. I will not be making this kind of long-winded rambling a habit though lol.
