Sorry this took so long. The post has been marinating in my drafts for quite a while T_T

That's a very difficult question for me to answer since I am not excessively passionate about music when it isn't related to Kalafina and I honestly don't listen to a lot of other artists/groups. I haven't really tried to find anything/anyone new because I am still very much invested in Kalafina's music (and to an extent their solo stuff). While I have not actively searched for a new obsession, I feel like any attempt at trying to find something similar would probably turn out to be rather futile...? Edit: Please check out the "REPLY" section for some suggestions by fellow fans :-)

I personally enjoy music with classical, symphonic and operatic elements so I gravitate towards artists that manage to combine all these genres with some pop, rock or even metal. As far as Japanese artists are concerned, I have casually been following Sarah Àlainn and Ayaka Hirahara who both have gorgeous voices and occasionally collaborate in a group called "LA DIVA". But it's not like I am buying their releases or attending their lives. I simply tune in from time to time.

It is a little weird that they're really pushing this big friendship between Seign and Nowa tho when they really barely know eachother. Sure they sort of saved each others lives or at least survived the runebarrows incident together but it hardly feels like it warranted this kind of loyalty

Random Wakana musings

This comes out of the blue but I have been thinking a lot about possible future projects for Wakana. I keep wondering what routes she will take. Whether or not she will stick to the pop-ish genre or eventually dive into a more classical field...I have mentioned it before, I would really love her to follow a similar path as KOKIA but I have no idea if that’s what she wants at the moment. She seems to be quite content right now and I want her to take all the time she needs to explore different genres. But eventually I hope she tries out some classical stuff too because I believe that’s what suits her best.

What spurred on all these musings was actually a random encounter with the insanely talented Sarah Àlainn (サラ・オレイン). Here’s a video of her performing “Time to Say Goodbye”. She is half Australian-half Japanese and she is most famous for her work as vocalist/violinist. I came across one of her PVs a few weeks ago and ever since then I have been listening to quite a lot of her music. Her voice and charisma are quite enchanting and most of her work is right up my alley. While I was browsing through her stuff, I kept coming across the weirdest connections to Kalafina. It’s almost funny but for some reason, there were so many things that reminded me of them. It all started with her taking part in various Music Fair episodes. Ahh, I really miss the times when Kalafina took part in all those music shows. We definitely got some of their best and unique performances in these programs. In a few episodes Sarah sang alongside Shinji Tanimura and Ayaka Hirahara. Both of them have sung together with Kalafina in the past and I have enjoyed all of those performances. During one episode Sarah was wearing the same Alice&Olivia dress Keiko also owns (as seen in the video I previously linked). Okay, this is something only someone as weird as me will notice but still, I thought it was a funny coincidence.

Most recently, Sarah has been taking part in a project called LA DIVA - a vocal group made up of Seiko Niizuma, Ayaka Hirahara, Ryōko Moriyama and Sarah. They first collaborated on Music Fair. I already love Ayaka Hirahara’s voice, to have her perform together with Sarah is a treat. The other two vocalists are great too. I have listened to some of their music and literally all their work is outstanding. Such great voices coming together. Check out their splendid performance of Amazing Grace! In the back you will notice a familiar face. Yup, that’s Hitoshi Konno and his Konno Strings group. They often perform on Music Fair. Another random connection to Kalafina XD

Anyways, their performances were so popular that it was decided to do further live activities together under the name of “LA DIVA” (inspired by the popular band Il Divo). They will hold their first concert on December 13 at Bunkamura Orchard Hall. I really wish I could go but alas, I am already back home in Austria at that time. Anyways, guess who is the stage producer for that live? Yup, you guessed right, it’s Satoshi Takebe who has been doing all the production work and a lot of composing for Wakana. This is where the circle closes. This is what made me start to think about Wakana doing something similar. I mean, she obviously has the connections so it’s certainly possible. How great would it be to have her participate in a project like “LA DIVA”??? I am aware of course that Wakana might currently not have the same skillset as let’s say Sarah or Ayaka but I think that’s mostly due to lack of training and overuse/misuse in the past ten years. I know that she can do great operatic stuff (even with her “new” voice), her vocals just need some refinement. I think with some intense vocal training she could hold her own in a group like LA DIVA. I would really enjoy collaborations like that. I have been loving all the covers Wakana has been singing so far, I am dying to hear more. What do you think??
