Hum...
I am not american. Nor am a highly political person, and not a political blog (and never will be.)
But this? I'm livid. This is terrifying.
Wtf USA? That's how you end up with a dictator at the wheel soon.
Edit: this is objectively a really bad law, no matter who's the president. No one should be above the law. Also, I'm removing comments as I see them

I think the big issue with Harris is that they used up any enthusiasm they had at the outset. When Biden dropped out and Harris stepped up, there was quite a bit of enthusiasm, maybe a hope that something would change. Then Walz was picked as VP, and once again, people were excited because Minnesota was seen as pretty progressive compared to the more institutional democrats. Then, as Novemeber approached, things started to fall apart. Harris started talking about being the most lethal military and securing borders. She got approval from Dick Cheney. And for the lot who were hoping to hear something in favor of brokering peace with Israel Palestine, there was a fake Biden Ultimatum against Netanyahu and nothing was done even while Trump bragged he was talking with Bibi and actively sabotaging Biden's brokering efforts.
I've seen people blame ID politics for their failure, but feminist and queer issues weren't unpopular, per se. Many states—even red states—passed abortion and queer marriage protections. A trans woman was sent to Congress, and this is the first time two black women are senators at the same time.
I think people are tiring of institutional Democrats. There's no excitement with the DNC. Their biggest selling point they keep giving is occupying seats to keep Republicans out of it. Anyone who may have an issue with institutional Democrats are told to fall into rank to keep Trump away. So, even if logically, Trump is a massive blow to a lot of these positions, people don't want to vote for "Not Trump^tm" for the third presidential election cycle in a row. They want and needed someone to get excited about.
I was a sophomore in high school during the 2016 election. By the time Trump leaves office, I will be approaching my 30s. I know there's a lot of finger-pointing right now about who dropped the ball on the presidential election, and we can blame any minor faction we want. "It's the Latinos! It's the progressives! It's the straight white men!"
Honestly, I don't think it's any of the major voting blocks, but, as I've said, the DNC as a whole. For their stuffy suits and constant attempts at reaching across the aisle with people who spit at their existence, demean their identities. When Harris called Republicans weird, people thought we were out of the woods with overly cordial negotiating and finally got someone who was willing to play ball.
I'm in progressive spaces, so it's certainly obvious that my observation that the DNC was too moderate is biased. That said, I think it was a one-two punch of being made to fall into line then losing because of a stark drop in turn out has lead to many believing someone else didn't do their part, almost a resentful "I had to give up my aspirations for the next administration to not be Trump, why couldn't you?"
#i dont normally do political postd#i actively try not to#maybe rb the occasional post about theory or philosophical discussion but i try to keep it light; here.#but ive seen a lot of differing opinions about the fallout of this election. shit sucks.#but i think the least productive part of this is blaming the voters themselves.#shaming people to vote how you want is a fools errand. no one has been shamed into action. at best theyre either shamed into inaction#or they just abandon the source of shaming entirely.#and its fucking infuriating when you are part of the demographic being blamed for not showing up when *you actually did*#people voted for abortion and same sex marriage protections! they do care!#the only reason weed and abortion didnt pass in florida is because they changed the law to demand 60% of the population#and abortion lost by 3%!!!#ultimately the dnc's job was to be something worth voting for#politics#us politics#us presidential election#2024 election#election 2024#this shit sucks so ive included these tags for blocking. im not even going to have notifications on this post

Reading up on the people on my election ballot and there's some combination of "can ANYONE tell me what their policies actually are???" (Specifically with the smaller offices) VS "Oh, so YOU'RE the reason why Indiana has an abortion ban! Duly noted!"
#speculation nation#there are 4 indiana justices with retention up for a vote (on my ballot at least) and 3 of them signed the abortion ban shit.#so guess who im going to vote against retention for :]#i know theyre not policy makers in the same way that the governer or whatever is#technically theyre just there to make judgement calls about what the law actually Is.#but. But. that doesnt change the fact that theyre the ones that signed the abortion ban into place.#So What if they didnt make the policy themselves? they still chose to steamroll opposition and put into place a ban from the early 1800s#indiana is among the 16 worst states for abortion now. thanks to these assholes.#And So. well apparently indiana's never successfully voted against retention for any of its justices#but Why Not Start Now? im fuckin pissed. a lot of people are fuckin pissed. and these 3 justices have got to go.#we dont get to vote for who takes their places but at least they MIGHT be justices that are willing to hear us out.#and regardless. i want to get back at them for it. :] so even if they Technically did their jobs. i want them Out.#anyways i went looking at the representatives and senate seats and the democratic nominees seem fine.#some of the smaller offices dont have democrats running. just republican or libertarian.#dear god help me im gonna be voting for a republican this election. just one.#specifically bc it's an office that doesnt have anything to do with politics. and the guy running against her seems uhhhh#like he really doesnt care for the position?? he just wanted to put libertarians in more view.#so im like. ok for this one we really should have the person who's already got experience with the job and actually Cares about it.#for some of the other ones... god i dont know. these were the ones who were awful about listing their policies.#might just not touch the county school shit at all. theres Nothing on these people online and i have no direct stake in this#man. many things to think about. i still got some time b4 im voting but i wanna be prepared.

one of the funniest things my sister has ever said was in this conversation between her husband and her daughter:
her husband: now [daughter], you can bring home absolutely anyone you want, of any gender or race or anything, but do NOT bring home a republican
my sister, staring at him: honey, *i* brought home a republican
husband, who forgot he was once a republican:
#my brother in law was a republican when he met my sister for context#but one of those republicans who is conservative because his parents are and hasnt ever been challenged to think about it#and once he met our whole family his tune quickly changed#but it is still deeply funny#our family has an incredible ability to turn conservatives into liberals#two generations in a row#(my dad also did it to my mom)#also side note i do really worry about them#because their daughter is trans and so this election matters so much#locally as well as nationally#like my sister is applying for jobs in canada because shes afraid that if the wrong people get elected they could take her daughter away#claim shes abusing her by accepting her as trans :/#like that is just so deeply fucked up!!!!!

Already made similar post but I want to create scientist OCs so badly, but don't want to look deeply into different branches of science to figure out which one they should specialize in because I've been in a wikipedia rabbit hole of sciences, some of which I didn't even know existed, for days now and yet I have absorbed none of the information nor come closer to a conclusion, Carlos, give me strength, you're all just gonna be last name the scientist, you're specializing in the science of science, I swear, aahhh
#writing#writeblr#my brain was not made for the sciences even though I find them fascinating in theory#trying to figure out the difference between all the sciences that seem vaguely the same#but actually have a bunch of differences that could mean a whole change in what the specialty is#like neurology vs neurobiology vs neuroscience#xenobiology vs exobiology vs astrobiology#astrophysics vs just astronomy vs whatever idk#can't choose which specialty would best suit this guy#bunch more i didn't say biophysics or maybe even astrobotany or idk!!#and then if i do find the right branch well then I gotta study it to make it believable#i took media studies and law not the scientific electives for a reason *sobs* but science is so cool i hate it#writer things#writer problems#i like the vibes the theory the idea but my brain nuh uh#i like reading hard sci-fi that's realistic and down to earth but writing it is gaaah cuz gaaah

Every single MAGA supporting conservative appointed to the courts should star in my new theater play: "Thick Clots Sit In the Pillory and Are Pelted with Rancid Tomatoes". Admission is free.
Sounds great, but do you know what the really awful thing is? They'd still have the power to do exactly what they are currently doing to the country when it comes to abortion, LGBTQ+ issues, race, guns, voting rights, climate change, corporate regulation, economic inequality, immigration, education, the freedom of speech, expression and religion (or the freedom to not believe), and so on.
So, while the idea of throwing tomatoes sounds like a nice way to blow off some steam and win a minor skirmish, they are winning the war. Because ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES and the worst possible person won the wrong election at the scariest possible time. And it resulted in a federal judiciary dominated by very conservative judges who have their jobs as long as they live.
Seeing a free play is always nice, but make no mistake, a lot of us are probably going to be paying for this right-wing federal judiciary for the rest of our lives. I'd rather pay to watch something else.

#if cybertron is going to be fucking BLOWN UP and the only people#with the tactical knowledge to prevent this from happening are in prison#then breaking them out of prison is the correct thing to do and no amount of whinging#about treason is going to change that lmao#OP isn't squeaky clean but i would literally take working with humans to stop the planet from being fucked up#over 'treason' any day lmao#especially since one of the guys OP is committing 'treason' against is fucking starscream#you know mr secret prisons and masked badgeless enforcers who murder citizens?? that guy?? we're going to respect that guy??#just because he was lawfully elected?? okay#most US public officials are democratically elected but that doesn't mean they don't do shit things that should be disobeyed#apparently when OP is a police officer that puts law and order over justice he's bad#but when he starts putting justice over law and order he's also bad#but mostly i found it stupid that people bitched at OP for doing what was right to save the planet#and also being one of the few people in the council of worlds that wasn't like... actually racist towards humans#whatever man lmao#squiggle liveblogging#'he's acting outside of council authority' yeah and he's also correct to do so next question

USA please listen to me: the price of “teaching them a lesson” is too high. take it from New Zealand, who voted our Labour government out in the last election because they weren’t doing exactly what we wanted and got facism instead.
Trans rights are being attacked, public transport has been defunded, tax cuts issued for the wealthy, they've mass-defunded public services, cut and attacked the disability funding model, cut benefits, diverted transport funding to roads, cut all recent public transport subsidies, cancelled massive important infrastructure projects like damns and ferries (we are three ISLANDS), fast tracked mining, oil, and other massive environmentally detrimental projects and gave the power the to approve these projects singularly to three ministers who have been wined and dined by lobbyists of the companies that have put the bids in to approve them while one of the main minister infers he will not prioritise the protection of endangered species like the archeys frog over mining projects that do massive environmental harm. They have attacked indigenous rights in an attempt to negate the Treaty of Waitangi by “redefining it”; as a backup, they are also trying to remove all mentions of the treaty from legislation starting with our Child Protection laws no longer requiring social workers to consider the importance of Maori children’s culture when placing those children; when the Waitangi Tribunal who oversees indigenous matters sought to enquire about this, the Minister for Children blocked their enquiry in a breach of comity that was condemned in a ruling — too late to do anything — by our Supreme Court. They have repealed labour protections around pay and 90 day trials, reversed our smoking ban, cancelled our EV subsidy, cancelled our water infrastructure scheme that would have given Maori iwi a say in water asset management, cancelled our biggest city’s fuel tax, made our treasury and inland revenue departments less accountable, dispensed of our Productivity Commission, begun work on charter schools and military boot camps in an obvious push towards privatisation, cancelled grants for first home buyers, reduced access to emergency housing, allowed no cause evictions, cancelled our Maori health system that would have given Maori control over their own public medical care and funding, cut funding of services like budgeting advice and food banks, cancelled the consumer advocacy council, cancelled our medicine regulations, repealed free prescriptions, deferred multiple hospital builds, failed to deliver on pre-election medical promises, reversed a gun ban created in response to the mosque shootings, brought back three strikes = life sentence policy, increased minimum wage by half the recommended amount, cancelled fair pay for disabled workers, reduced wheelchair services, reversed our oil and gas exploration ban, cancelled our climate emergency fund, cut science research funding including climate research, removed limits on killing sea lions, cut funding for the climate change commission, weakened our methane targets, cancelled Significant National Areas protections, have begun reversing our ban on live exports. Much of this was passed under urgency.
It’s been six months.

Support the Inclusive Democracy Act of 2023 (H.R.6643 / S. 3423)
An open letter to the U.S. Congress
576 so far! Help us get to 1,000 signers!
Despite his 34 felony convictions, Donald Trump has the wealth, connections, and privilege to ensure he doesn’t have to worry about his eligibility to vote this fall. But the millions of ordinary Americans currently disenfranchised by felony convictions aren’t so lucky. That's why, as your constituent, I urge you to co-sponsor and support the Inclusive Democracy Act of 2023 (H.R.6643 / S. 3423) to guarantee voting rights to ALL Americans. Right now, Jim Crow-style felony disenfranchisement laws deny voting rights to over 4.4 million Americans. The Inclusive Democracy Act of 2023 comprises a series of transformative measures that would end the broken system of felony disenfranchisement and empower marginalized communities: - Guaranteeing the right to vote in federal elections to all Americans who have criminal convictions. - Eliminating state-level barriers that prevent individuals with criminal convictions, whether they are incarcerated or have been released, from exercising their right to vote in federal elections. - Ensuring citizens in carceral settings have access to information about elections and candidates 29 Members of Congress have signed on as sponsors or co-sponsors of the Inclusive Democracy Act of 2023. If you haven’t already, please join your colleagues and add your name to that list. And if you’re already a co-sponsor – thank you, and please do everything you can to help pass this groundbreaking legislation into law.
